Abstract
Description
- Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum ein- und beidseitigen elektrolytischen Beschichten eines als Kathode geschalteten Gegenstandes aus Stahl, vorzugsweise eines Stahlbandes, oder aus feuerverzinktem Stahl, vorzugsweise eines feuerverzinkten Stahlbandes, mit Zink oder einer Zink-Eisenlegierung in einer galvanischen Zelle aus einer wässrigen Lösung von Zinkchlorid und Eisenchlorid mit einem pH-Wert von 0,1 bis 3,0, vorzugsweise 1,0 bis 2,0, als Elektrolytflüssigkeit unter Verwendung von unlöslichen Anoden.
- In den letzten Jahren ist eine Vielzahl von Verfahren zur ein- und beidseitigen Verzinkung, insbesondere von Stahlbändern,beschrieben worden. Dabei werden einerseits Zinkelektrolyte vom Chloridtyp in Kombination mit löslichen Anoden, sowie Zinkelektrolyte vom Sulfattyp in Kombination mit löslichen als auch unlöslichen Anoden verwendet. Beispiele für derartige Verfahren sind etwa in der EP-OS 151 235 oder der DE-OS 34 28 277 beschrieben. Die Vorteile der Zinkchloridelektrolyten in Verbindung mit löslichen Anoden sind in der Literatur ausführlich beschrieben und betreffen im wesentlichen die verbesserte Leitfähigkeit sowie die etwas bessere Stromausbeute gegenüber Sulfatelektrolyten. In der Elektrolytflüssigkeit enthaltenes Eisen gelangt nicht oder nur geringfügig in die Beschichtung. In Verbindung mit unlöslichen Anoden sind oftmals durch die Freisetzung von Chlor aufwendige Sicherheitsmaßnahmen notwendig. Sulfatelektrolyte wiederum sind gegenüber Eisenionen sehr empfindlich. Ab einer Konzentration der Eisenionen von ca. 4 g/l verschlechtern sich sowohl das Aussehen als auch die Schutzeigenschaften der Verzinkung sehr stark, da wesentlich mehr Eisen mitabgeschieden wird. Zusätzlich sinkt auch die Stromausbeute von etwa 98% auf 94% und weniger ab.
- In der WO 91/04359 ist ein Verfahren zur elektrolytischen Beschichtung eines Metallgegenstandes mit Zink oder einer Zink-Eisenlegierung unter Verwendung unlöslicher Elektroden und eines Elektrolyten vom Chloridtyp beschrieben, wobei die Ergänzung des Gehaltes an Zink und oder Eisen im Elektrolyt über Regenerierungstanks erfolgt. Durch diese mit Eisen und/oder Zink gefüllten Behälter wird der Elektrolyt geleitet, wobei Metall in Lösung geht, wonach die regenerierte Elektrolyfflüssigkeit wieder der Beschichtungseinheit zugeleitet wird.
- Die Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung ist ein Verfahren der eingangs angegebenen Art, bei welchem in einfacher und wirtschaftlicher Weise eine kontinuierliche Beschichtung des Gegenstandes möglich ist.
- Bei der Beschichtung eines feuerverzinkten Gegenstandes ist dagegen erfindungsgemäß vorgesehen, daß der Gegenstand vor der galvanischen Beschichtung stromlos mit der Elektrolyfflüssigkeit gespült wird, wobei Zink in Lösung geht, und die Elektrolyfflüssigkeit nach der Spülung des Gegenstandes der galvanischen Zelle zugeleitet wird.
- Durch die stromlose Spülung des Gegenstandes vor der Beschichtung mit der für die Beschichtung vorgesehenen Elektrolyfflüssigkeit wird einerseits die Haftung der aufgebrachten Beschichtung verbessert und weiters dient der Gegenstand selbst als Quelle zur Ergänzung des Metallgehaltes in der Elektrolyfflüssigkeit, sodaß zusätzliche, mit dem zu ergänzenden Metall gefüllte Regenerierungstanks oder Lösekolonnen vermieden werden können.
- Um die Abscheidung metallischen Eisens auf dem zu beschichtenden Gegenstand fast völlig zu verhindern und damit eine reine Zinkbeschichtung zu erzeugen, ist vorgesehen, daß für die Abscheidung von metallischem Zink eine Konzentration der Zinkchloridlösung von 50 bis 1000 g/l, vorzugsweise 300 bis 600 g/l, ZnCl₂ und eine Konzentration an Eisen-2-Ionen von 0,5 bis 60 g/l, vorzugsweise 10 bis 40 g/l, eingestellt wird, wobei das Molverhäitnis von Zink zu Eisen in der Elektrolytflüssigkeit von 3 oder größer eingehalten wird.
- Da sich überraschenderweise herausgestellt hat, daß in dem zuvor angegebenen Konzentrationsbereich von 2-wertigem Eisen in der Elektrolytflüssigkeit und einem Molverhältnis von Zink zu Eisen von größer oder gleich 3 praktisch kein Eisen am Gegenstand mitabgeschieden wird, ist gemäß einem weiteren Merkmal der Erfindung vorgesehen, daß für die Abscheidung einer Zink-Eisenlegierung in der Elektrolytflüssigkeit ein Molverhäitnis von Zink zu Eisen von weniger als 3 eingestellt wird.
- Die entsprechend den obigen Bedingungen abgeschiedenen Zinkbeschichtungen bzw. die Zink-Eisenbeschichtungen zeigen im gesamten verwendeten Stromdichtebereich (10 bis ca. 200 A/dm) ein gleichförmiges Aussehen und bei Tiefziehversuchen nach Erichsen wurden ausgezeichnete Haftung sowie hervorragende Tiefzieheigenschaften festgestellt.
- Vorteilhafterweise beträgt die Temperatur der Elektrolytflüssigkeit 20 bis 80 °C, vorzugsweise 50 bis 60 °C.
- Der kathodische Wirkungsgrad des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens liegt zwischen 98 und 100%, und gemäß einem zusätzlichen Merkmal der Erfindung kann die Leitfähigkeit der Elektrolytflüssigkeit durch die Zugabe von Neutralsalzen, beispielsweise Natrium-, Kalium-, Ammonium- oder Aluminiumchlorid mit einer Konzentration von 0 bis 100 g/l, vorzugsweise 30 bis 60 g/l, verbessert werden. Im Vergleich zu herkömmlichen Sulfatelektrolyten beträgt die Reduktion der Badspannung unter Verwendung der Leitsalze bis zu 40%.
- Nachfolgend sollen unter Bezugnahme auf die beigefügten Zeichnungen Ausführungsbeispiele der Erfindung näher erläutert werden. Dabei zeigt
- Fig. 1 das Schema einer Galvaniksektion zur Ausführung der Erfindung,
- Fig. 2 zeigt schematisch eine Galvanikzelle zur Ausführung der Erfindung und
- Fig. 3 stellt den oberen Teil einer Zelle entsprechend einer anderen Ausführungsform dar.
- Entsprechend der Fig. 1 wird ein Stahlband 1 in einer Galvaniksektion 2 unter Verwendung eines Zinkelektrolytes auf Chloridbasis mit einer Zinkbeschichtung versehen. Die Galvaniksektion 2 wird dabei aus einem Arbeitstank 3 gefüllt, und der Elektrolyt läuft wieder in diesen Tank 3 zurück. Erfindungsgemäß wird ein Teil des Elektrolyts aus dem Arbeitstank 3 über eine Lösekolonne 4, welche mit Eisen gefüllt ist, umgewälzt. Dadurch wird das aus dem Elektrolyt auf das Stahlband abgeschiedene Eisen wieder ergänzt.
- Die Fig. 2 zeigt schematisch eine Galvanikzelle zur Durchführung der Erfindung, bei welcher das Stahlband bzw. das feuerverzinkte Stahlband 1 über eine kathodisch geschaltete Stromrolle 6 in die Zelle einläuft, vertikal bis zu einer unteren Umlenkrolle 7 geführt, und von dieser wieder zu einer oberhalb der Zelle angeordneten weiteren Stromrolle 6 verläuft. Wichtig ist, die Anoden 8 unterhalb des Flüssigkeitsspiegels 9 des Elektrolyten anzuordnen, wobei ein Mindestabstand 1 mm eingehalten werden soll. Vorzugsweise sind jedoch Abstände von 20 bis 50 mm vorgesehen. Um die Stromverluste nicht zu hoch werden zu lassen, wird ein Maximalabstand von Anodenoberkante zu Flüssigkeitsspiegel 9 von 100 mm nicht überschritten. Die Stromzuführung zu den Anoden 8 erfolgt durch isolierte Rohre oder Schächte 10.
- Wie in den Fig. 2 und 3 dargestellt ist, bestehen die unlöslichen Anoden 8 aus einem Trägermaterial 8a, auf welchem eine Beschichtung 8b aufgebracht ist.
- In Fig. 3 ist eine Variante für die Stromzuführung zu den Anoden 8 dargestellt. Die Stromzuführungen 11 befinden sich in diesem Fall außerhalb der Zelle und oberhalb des Elektrolytbadspiegels 9 und um den erwünschten Abstand der Anodenoberkante vom Badspiegel 9 zu erzielen, sind die Anoden 8 in ihrem oberen Bereich mit einem Isolator 12 abgedeckt. Dadurch wird erzielt, daß die eigentliche Anode, nämlich der abscheidewirksame Abschnitt der gesamten Anodenkonstruktion im gewünschten Ausmaß unterhalb des Flüssigkeitsspiegels 9 des Elektrolyten liegt.
- Obwohl in den Zeichnungen dargestellt, ist das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren nicht auf vertikale Zellen beschränkt, vielmehr sind auch horizontale Ausführungen denkbar.
- In einem Versuch wurde ein bereits feuerverzinktes Stahlband verwendet, und dieses mit einer Zink-Eisenlegierung beschichtet. Die Haftung der Zinkschicht wurde durch die stromlose Spülung mit der Elektrolytflüssigkeit verbessert, und es konnte auf eine zusätzliche Lösestation für Zink verzichtet werden. Die vorhandene Zinklösestation wurde mit metallischem Eisen gefüllt, um die abgeschiedene Eisenmenge im Elektrolytbad zu ergänzen. Als Quelle für die Ergänzung des abgeschiedenen Zinks diente das feuerverzinkte Stahlband selbst.
Claims (5)
- Verfahren zum ein- und beidseitigen elektrolytischen Beschichten eines als Kathode geschalteten Gegenstandes aus feuerverzinktem Stahl, vorzugsweise eines feuerverzinkten Stahlbandes, mit Zink oder einer Zink-Eisenlegierung in einer galvanischen Zelle aus einer wässrigen Lösung von Zinkchlorid und Eisenchlorid mit einem pH-Wert von 0,1 bis 3,0, vorzugsweise 1,0 bis 2,0, als Elektrolytflüssigkeit unter Verwendung von unlöslichen Anoden, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Gegenstand vor der galvanischen Beschichtung stromlos mit der Elektrolytflüssigkeit gespült wird, wobei Zink in Lösung geht, und die Elektrolytflüssigkeit nach der Spülung des Gegenstandes der galvanischen Zelle zugeleitet wird.
- Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß für die Abscheidung von metallischem Zink eine Konzentration der Zinkchloridlösung von 50 bis 1000 g/l, vorzugsweise 300 bis 600 g/l, ZnCl₂ und eine Konzentration an Eisen-2-lonen von 0,5 bis 60 g/1, vorzugsweise 10 bis 40 g/l, eingestellt wird, wobei das Molverhältnis von Zink zu Eisen in der Elektrolytflüssigkeit von 3 oder größer eingehalten wird.
- Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß für die Abscheidung einer Zink-Eisenlegierung in der Elektrolyfflüssigkeit ein Molverhältnis von Zink zu Eisen von weniger als 3 eingestellt wird.
- Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Temperatur der Elektrolyfflüssigkeit 20 bis 80 °C, vorzugsweise 50 bis 60 °C, beträgt.
- Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Leitfähigkeit der Elektrolytflüssigkeit durch die Zugabe von Neutralsalzen, beispielsweise Natrium-, Kalium-, Ammonium- oder Aluminiumchlorid, mit einer Konzentration von 0 bis 100 g/l, vorzugsweise 30 bis 60 g/l, verbessert wird.
