This type of fastening is unsafe because flanging of the relatively thin-walled wall part can become detached in the long term in motor operation.
- the collar protruding beyond the ring wall, which is flanged around the wall part, can be made much thicker than the wall part itself and thus provide a more stable flared connection.
- the wall part can be radially divided over its circumference according to claim 2.
- a support ribs which are tight against the hubs or connect them to the base of the piston head cannot be reached to the wall part.

- the piston consists overall of a head part 1. At its hubs 2, a piston shaft 3 is articulated via a piston pin (not shown). An outer ring wall 4 containing the grooves for the piston rings extends from the bottom of the head part 1. Radially at a distance within the ring wall 4, an annular rib 5 connects the hubs 2 to the piston crown. Between the annular rib 5 and the annular wall 4 there is an annular cavity 6, which is covered by a sheet metal part 7, which has the shape of an annular recess, to form a closed annular space. The cavity 6 can be acted upon by cooling oil through the sheet metal part 7.
- the sheet metal part 7 rests against the inner edge of the free end ring surface of the ring wall 4 and is held there by a collar 8 which flanges radially inwards and extends from the outer edge of the ring wall.
- the sheet metal part 7 is separated radially into two halves. These halves abut each other on joints 9.
- the oil is fed into the annular cavity 6 through an indentation 10 provided on the inner edge of the sheet metal part 7.
- the oil is discharged through a diametrically opposed opening 11 which can lie in the bottom of the annular trough of the sheet metal part 7.
- the opening 11 can, however, also be provided as an indentation on the inner edge of the sheet metal part 7 and thus correspond to the design of the oil supply opening.
- the annular rib contains pe 5 radial bores 12. In order to achieve a shaker effect in the space 13 lying radially inside the annular rib 5, this is covered at its open end facing the connecting rod head with an additional trough-shaped sheet metal part 14. The oil drain from this space can follow the gap between this sheet metal part 14 and the annular rib 5 or the hubs 2.
- the sheet metal part 7 covering the outer annular cavity 6 can also be fastened to the outer ring wall 4 by welding or screwing instead of by flanging.
