Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for dividing pills or tablets with two arms which can be pivoted about an axis, the pill being held in position on a support surface by a device and being cut with the aid of a blade which is guided by the two arms.
  • a pill divider is known from US Pat. No. 4,179,806 which wants to avoid these difficulties.
  • a pill is positioned and held in such a way that it can be divided without great force and without an additional tool.
  • This known pill divider is assumed in the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such a pill divider consists of a support surface at one end of a support arm which is connected to a second arm.
  • This second arm is equipped on the underside with a blade that is central is arranged above the support surface.
  • the pill to be cut is held on the support surface by two resilient elements in the cutting position.
  • the pill is cut cleanly. Crumbling is prevented by making the carrier surface slightly wedge-shaped. If the second arm is now raised, the divided pill can be removed.
  • a pill divider of the type mentioned in the preamble is characterized according to the invention by the features listed in the characterizing part of the main claim.
  • Advantageous refinements result from the features of the subclaims.
  • the pill divider according to the invention has a device for removing only a piece of the divided pill or tablet; in a preferred embodiment, this device is arranged opposite the carrier surface. It is advantageous to arrange both the blade and the device for removing the pill piece together on one arm of the pill divider.
  • the device for removing can be an ejection opening in this arm, which is located on the side of the blade.
  • the blade spatially separates the divided pill pieces so that only one half of the pill can be removed.
  • the other half can be deposited in a storage container, which in its simplest embodiment is one half of the receptacle for the pill to be divided, which in this case forms a closed chamber from one of the two resilient elements, the blade and the lowered second arm .
  • the storage container is preferably arranged at the rear end of this arm.
  • the storage container and the two arms are designed in such a way that they close together when the cutting is complete.
  • the storage container is closed by the second arm, so that pills or pill halves therein cannot fall out.
  • Fig. 1 shows a pill divider, which has two mutually movable arms (1, 2).
  • the arms (1, 2) are pivotally connected to one another by an axis located at (3).
  • On the upper or second arm (2) at the rear end of a projection (9) is provided, which in a corresponding recess on the lower or first arm (1) can engage. So the pill divider can be closed if desired.
  • the pill divider can be opened just as easily by simply pulling the second arm (2).
  • a corrugation (10) at the rear end of the second arm (2) prevents the fingers from slipping.
  • Fig. 2 shows how the reservoir (5) is arranged at the rear end of the first arm (1) of the pill divider.
  • the storage container (5) is completely closed.
  • a partition (11) divides the area in which the pill or tablet is divided.
  • the cutting is done with a blade (4), which is embedded in the second arm (2).
  • the support surface (6) is increased from both outer edges to the center of the lower arm (1) so that this increase is in line with the cutting edge of the blade (4). This enables the tablet to be divided without crumbling.
  • FIG. 3 shows the ejection opening (8) which is arranged exactly above one of these two chambers.
  • FIG. 4 shows the device for positioning the tablet (7) in a manner suitable for cutting. It consists of two resilient elements which are freely movable to a certain extent on the support surface (6) and are fixed at their rear end. This arrangement prevents the tablet from slipping under the pressure of the cutting tool (4).
  • Fig. 5 shows a section through the swivel range, in which the two arms (1, 2) are pivotally connected to each other by cylindrical pins (12), which are provided on the second arm (2), in corresponding recesses on the first arm (1 ) intervene.
  • This makes it possible to make the entire pill divider with the exception of the blade (4) from one material, for example, injection molded plastic.
  • Fig. 6 the arrangement of the blade (4) and the device for cutting-correct positioning (7) is shown.
  • the ejection opening (8) is shown above one of the chambers, the walls of which are formed by the support surface (6), the blade (4), a spring element (7) and the upper arm (2).
  • Fig. 7 shows a section through the storage container (5), which is equipped in this embodiment with a trough-like bottom.
  • the wall (11) can be provided with an opening (13) which connects that chamber (14) to the storage container which has no ejection opening. This way, the half of the pill that is not used immediately can be transported into the storage container without having to open the pill divider.
  • the storage container designed as a trough is particularly advantageous.
  • the lower arm (1) has in its rear region a wall (19) which forms the rear end of the storage container (5).
  • the device for positioning in line with the cutting (7) is arranged in the front region of the lower arm (1). It consists of two leaf spring-like elements (7) which are arranged at an angle to one another. They are provided with corrugations (14) on the sides facing one another.
  • the leaf spring-like elements (7) delimit a cutting surface or support surface (6) which has a notch (15) centrally in the direction of the blade (4) arranged on the upper arm (2), in which the blade (4) partially rests when the pill divider is closed .
  • a projection (18) on the lower arm (1) with a corresponding projection on the upper arm (2) forms a recessed grip in the closed state of the pill divider, which can be easily intervened to open the pill divider.
  • FIG. 9 shows a top view of the opened pill divider.
  • a partition (20) arranged so that it fits behind the rear wall (19) of the storage container (15) when the pill divider is closed.
  • the support surface (6) with the leaf spring-like elements (7) is arranged in the front region of the lower arm (1).
  • the corrugation (14) on the elements (7) consists of a large number of concave indentations, so that the pill or tablet to be divided is securely gripped and held by this corrugation.
  • the notch (15) in the support surface (6) is provided with bevelled side walls. The blade (4) is guided back into a straight, central position after the tablet has been divided, even if it was slightly tilted during the cutting.
  • a side wall (16) prevents a tablet half from sliding out of the storage container (5) behind the leaf spring-like elements (7).
  • FIG. 10 shows a partial view of the pill divider in the direction of the arrows X-X from FIG. 9.
  • the blade (4) rests on a base and is fixed at its ends to an intermediate wall (21) on the one hand and to a U-shaped web on the other.
  • the U-shaped web (22) forms part of a swivel joint with which the upper arm (2) can be pivoted against the lower arm (1).
  • the complementary part of the swivel joint is provided on the lower arm (1) in front of the leaf spring-like elements (7).
  • the pill divider according to the invention thus offers the possibility, in a simple manner, of removing half of a divided pill or tablet and storing the other. Of course, it is also possible to halve several tablets in stock and then place them in the storage container.
  • the pill divider is small and compact, so that it can be easily accommodated in a handbag or jacket pocket.
