Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method of extracting and speeding up flat objects, applicable in a device for unstacking flat objects, as well as a device for implementing this method.
  • These flat objects can in particular be postal envelopes and the unstacking device can be used to supply an indexing and / or mail sorting machine.
  • Such devices for unstacking flat objects are well known. A description of such a device will be found in particular in European patent application 87109802.6 of 7.7.1987 published after the priority date of this application.
  • Such devices essentially comprise a magazine for storing folds in a stack and a unstacking head at the end of the magazine.
  • the magazine includes drive means for presenting the first fold of the stack in a well-defined position, standing on edge, for example, the foot stopped against a stop, one of the edges pressing against a jogging edge .
  • the unstacking head can be constituted by a suction cup animated by a plunging movement to come into contact with the first fold of the stack and grasp it by suction, and a translational movement, to drive it out of its position d 'stop, to an exit position where it is taken by the user machine. During this time, the pile advanced in the magazine and the next fold took the place of the previous one.
  • the invention aims to reduce such cases of defective unstacking and to separate from each other folds thus poorly presented in the output position, insofar as it is possible to distinguish them, that is to say where they are sufficiently staggered.
  • the subject of the invention is therefore a method of extracting and speeding up flat objects and a device for its implementation which is placed between the exit position and the user machine.
  • the method employs forceps gripping the folds one by one of a type known per se from patent DE-C-669,441, as well as various sensors such as photoelectric cells, making it possible to detect the presence of a fold in the output position of the unstacking head, or in the field of the clamp, or used to signal that the clamp is in a standby position or in a limit position.
  • an end-of-stroke detector causes the clamp to loosen and the carriage to be returned to the standby position, from which it immediately restarts to go take a next fold which will have been brought at the same time as the first by the unstacking head.
  • the extraction device of FIG. 1 aims at gripping plies 1 presented by a unstacking head not shown in an exit position 2, at the entrance of a conveyor essentially comprising a conveyor wall 3 and a conveyor belt 4 stretched on rollers 5 and moving in the direction of arrow f1, to take the folds to a user machine such as a sorting machine.
  • the conveying wall is pierced with an oblong opening 6 in front of which is mounted a fold detector 7, such as a photoelectric cell, which provides a signal characterizing the presence of a fold brought into the exit position by the unstacking head.
  • the carriage 10, carrying the clamp 11, 12 has the function of responding to the supply of this signal by coming to grip the fold presented to drive it in the direction of the arrow f2, then release it above the belt 4, so that it is driven to the user machine.
  • This carriage 10 comprises two slides 13, 14 sliding on two slides 15, 16 carried by supports 17, only one of which is shown, thanks to drive means which will be detailed below.
  • the two slides 13, 14 are part of the same body 18 which further comprises a wing 19 carrying one of the jaws 11 of the clamp by a pivot 21.
  • the other jaw 12 is similarly mounted.
  • Each of the jaws carries a shoe 23, 24.
  • the two jaws are actuated together by a double-acting pneumatic cylinder 25 disposed below the pivots 21 and passing through the body 18 through an opening 26 formed therein for this purpose.
  • This actuator by spreading the lower arms of the two jaws, brings the ends of the upper arms bringing the pads 23, 24 together, as indicated by arrow f3, and clamps the latter on a fold presented between them in the position for exiting the unstacking head.
  • the jack is actuated so as to open the clamp and to release the moving fold, which is then driven by the belt 4. Then the carriage returns to take the fold next, as soon as there is one.
  • Figure 2 is an elevational view of the carriage 10, seen in section in front of the jaws of the clamp 11, 12, in the direction of the arrow f1.
  • the belt 4 and its roller 5 are just above of the carriage 10 and the assembly is inclined with respect to the vertical so that the upper surface of the belt 4 makes an angle with the horizontal of approximately 10 in the direction of the conveying wall 3, itself inclined with respect to vertically, in the same direction, by an angle of about 20 °.
  • the unstacking head the position of the suction cup of which has been indicated at 27, presents the folds to the extraction device in the outlet position 2, so that their right surface, in FIG. 2, coincides with the plane 28, parallel to the plane of the conveying wall.
  • These folds can be more or less thick but do not exceed the distance between the plane 28 and the wall 3 in thickness.
  • the two jaws of the clamp are shown in Figure 2 in a rest position corresponding to the case where the cylinder 25 is fully retracted and the clamp completely open.
  • the jaw 12, in particular, pulled by the jack 25, is in abutment against a stop 20 which is an extension of the wing 19 returning behind the arm 12.
  • the shoe 24 is thus behind the plane 28.
  • the arm 11 is then in the position indicated, the shoe 23 being set back from the conveying wall 3. The path is thus free for the presentation of a fold by the unstacking head.
  • the jack 25 is coupled to the lower end of the arm 31, 32 of the jaws 11, 12.
  • the axis 39 of the jack 25 is provided with a screwed end piece 34 coupled to the arm 31 by a pivot 35.
  • the jack is provided with a lug 36, fixed to a nozzle 37 coupled to the arm 32 by a pivot 38.
  • the distance between the pivots 21 and 38 is notably smaller than the distance between the pivots 20 and 35.
  • the forces transmitted for the rotation of the jaws by the jack are thus greater on the arm 11 than on the arm 12.
  • the shoe 23 is mounted at the end of the arm 41 of the jaw 11 by means of a rod 43 and a shoe support 44.
  • the rod 43 is fixed perpendicular to the arm 41 by means not referenced.
  • the pad support 44 is mounted on the rod 43 by a pivot 45, in a manner allowing it to pivot in the plane of the arms 11, 12.
  • the spring 46 compressed around the rod 43, between the end of the arm 41 and the facing surface of the support 44, tends to maintain the shoe 23 parallel to the arm 41 and perpendicular to the rod 43.
  • the length of the rod 43 is such that the shoe 23 can go to the plane 28, at through the opening 6 of the conveying wall 3, without the arm 41 coming up against this wall.
  • the shoe 24 is mounted at the end of the arm 42 by similar means: rod 53, support 54, pivot 55, spring 56, the effect of which is the same.
  • the rod 53 is shorter than rod 43, since there is no obstacle to avoid.
  • the pads can be made of rubber, the rest of the device being made of metal and, optionally, of plastic.
  • the shapes of the arms and rods make the pads are substantially parallel to each other and to the plane 28, while the lengths of the arms make the front faces of the pads 23 and 24 practically coincide when they both arrive in the plane 28.
  • the arm 42 swings to the left, as indicated by arrow f4 and comes to bear on a stop 58 secured to the wing 19.
  • the position of this stop is such that the surface of the pad 24 thus comes into the plane 28, in contact with the right surface, in the figure, of a fold 33 presented by the suction cup 27.
  • the arm 41 then swings to the right, as indicated by the arrow f5, until the surface of the pad 24 comes into contact with the opposite surface of the fold, after a stroke which will depend in each case on the thickness of the fold.
  • the surfaces of the pads tend to no longer be parallel to the plane 28, but, thanks to their mounting on a pivot, the pads can return to parallel planes and apply against the opposite surfaces of fold 33 to be grasped.
  • Figure 3 is a left view of the jaw 12, in partial section at the pivots, in a cutaway of the carriage 10, itself seen in section in the plane of the axes of the slides 15, 16.
  • the arm 42 relatively thin, was 62, pierced with a bore 63 containing a bearing 64 bearing on the axis 21 and retained by a ciclip 65.
  • the axis is fixed to the wing 19 by a threaded extension on which the bolt 66 is screwed.
  • a friction washer 67 is interposed between the barrel 62 and the wing 19.
  • Figure 4 provides a perspective view of the carriage 10, without the jaws of the clamp. We find there the elements already mentioned, particularly in the description made with reference to Figure 1. We see how the opening 26 is placed in the body 18, as well as another opening 68, provided for the passage of a drive belt 81 of the carriage 10. We also see there how the wings 19 are positioned, as well as the stops 20 and 58.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates a particular embodiment of the guide and drive means of the carriage 10.
  • the belt 4 stretched on rollers 5, only one of which is shown, accompanied by a belt support 71, profiled L-shaped fixed by screws thanks to oblong openings 72 to the frame of the machine and of which a wing 73 runs under the upper part of the belt 4.
  • FIG. 5 therefore represents the two slides 15 and 16, one above the other and two supports 17 receiving the ends of the slides 15, 16, in bores 75, provided for example for tight assembly with the slides .
  • the two supports 17 are provided with a threaded bore 76, for fixing a roller mount 77, by screws 78 for example, as well as a belt passage orifice 79.
  • the position of the rollers 80 carried by the mounts 77 is such that the center of the rollers is in the vicinity of the axis of the slide 15 and that the drive belt 81 of the carriage 10 runs above the slide 15 to come back below this slide.
  • Figure 6 shows in more detail one of the supports 17, seen in partial section along arrow B of Figure 5 and shown in enlarged form compared to the previous views.
  • the frame 77 is a part comprising a notch 81 for the housing of the roller 80 and pierced with a stepped bore 82 to receive the axis 83 of the roller 80, by means of bearings 86, 87 clamped in this bore, as well as two bores 95 for its attachment to the support 17 by the screws 78 (fig. 5).
  • the axis 83 of one of the rollers 80 protrudes from the frame 77 and carries a drive pulley 88, separated from the bearing 87 by a spacer 89.
  • An electric motor can be mounted, for example, on the right support 17 and, by a belt coupled to the drive pulley 88, it will drive the roller 80 and therefore the belt 81, to move the carriage 10, in the direction of rotation, either to the right or to the left.
  • the processor in general, returns periodically in the process illustrated in Figure 7, to the point where he had abandoned it in a previous period (step indicated by a rectangle) and interrogates an entry, to determine whether to go to a next step.
