Definitions
- the invention relates to an agent for cleaning processing plants for reactive isocyanate-containing multicomponent mixtures.
- processing plants In the production of quick-setting plastics and plastic foams based on polyurethane and polyisocyanurate, processing plants are used in which the reactive, isocyanate-containing mixtures required for the production of the end product are fed to the molds via mixing heads.
- mixing heads which can be equipped with agitators, tend to clog and therefore have to be kept periodically, usually after every shot, with suitable detergents.
- the storage containers, valves and lines upstream of the mixing heads must also be cleaned from time to time with a detergent.
- solvents or solvent mixtures in which the substances to be removed are readily soluble.
- These are usually chlorinated hydrocarbons such as dichloromethane, trichlorethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, tetrachlorethylene or carboxyl-containing, volatile solvents such as acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate, pentyl acetate or mixtures thereof.
- chlorinated hydrocarbons such as dichloromethane, trichlorethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, tetrachlorethylene or carboxyl-containing
- volatile solvents such as acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate, pentyl acetate or mixtures thereof.
- Such agents are described in DE-OS 34 44 293.
- the chlorinated hydrocarbons are liver and nerve toxins, some of them. carcinogenic, and are therefore subject to special legal provisions regarding use and labeling. Furthermore, these substances are difficult to decompose in the soil.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a cleaning agent according to the preamble of the main claim which, with a good cleaning effect, can be used only with great flammability, is not carcinogenic and can be used without high safety measures in terms of occupational safety and disposal.
- the agent is intended to completely detach or disperse the reactive components, the so-called adducts, as well as the products of the beginning reaction, which are not yet highly crosslinked, without the need for increased shear forces. Residual solvents in the systems must be avoided.
- plasticizer portion of the cleaning agent according to the invention has so far been known only from PVC processing and in paint production.
- Suitable plasticizers are esters of phthalic acid with shorter to medium chain (C2 to C13) aliphatic alcohols, especially diethyl or dioctyl phthalate, or there are shorter to medium chain alkyl sulfonic acid esters of phenols. The latter are available as finished commercial products.
- Suitable mineral oil products are mineral oil fractions with carbon numbers from 8 to 17 from aliphatic, naphthenic or aromatic hydrocarbons or mixtures thereof.
- the boiling range of the fractions must be between 120 ° C and 300 ° C. For reasons of safe processing, it is advantageous to use fractions with boiling ranges above 180 ° C at flash points above 55 ° C. Petroleum and / or white spirit have proven successful.
- Aromatically-free mineral oil fractions with a boiling range between 230 and 260 ° C and a flash point above 100 ° C are particularly advantageous, also in toxicological terms.
- the flash points of the plasticizers are above 150 ° C; these can therefore also be used without any problems.
- Used residues of the cleaning agent can be removed easily and safely. If they get into the operating wastewater, they can be separated from it using a light liquid separator, which is usually available. Residues of still reactive isocyanate components can then be converted into harmless, fully reacted products by adding water, ammonia and / or alcohol accordingly.
- the formulation of the solvent according to the invention was not obvious since both components on their own do not have the required cleaning action. Their mixing ratio can be optimized within the limits of the invention by simple preliminary tests for the residues to be removed in each case.
- Typical ingredients of these residues are e.g. For example: 4,4 ⁇ -diphenylmethane diisocyanate, also in modified form; Tolylene diisocyanate; the linear and branched polyethers and polyesters customary in polyurethane chemistry, such as, for. B. of naphthylene-1,5-diisocyanate with a linear polyester of adipic acid and ethylene glycol.
- the detergent according to the invention is used in a known manner in that it passes through the processing plant instead of the reaction components, optionally supported by pumps. Then you can accelerate with an air flow of 6 bar overpressure or blow off the cleaning agent.
- a mixture of 61 percent by weight dibutyl phthalate and 39 percent by weight white spirit (boiling range 180 to 210 ° C) is used to clean a casting machine with a mixing chamber and stirrer, in which polyurethane foam parts are made from a branched polyether based on polyethylene / prolypropylene glycol, modified diphenylmethane diisocyanate and with conventional additives . After the mixing and ejection process, approx. 20 ml of reactive mixture remain in the mixing chamber.
- a mixture of 70 weight percent dioctyl phthalate and 30 weight percent of a non-aromatic hydrocarbon fraction (boiling range 240 to 260 ° C, a commercial product) is produced.
- a system on which polyurethane elastomer parts are produced from an adduct of naphthylene-1,5-diisocyanate and a linear polyester from adipic acid and ethylene glycol at 90 ° C is rinsed with 100 ml cleaning mixture for 3 seconds and 2 seconds with compressed air from 6 bar overpressure blown out. The system runs clean for the duration of a shift, as was previously the case only when using dichloromethane.
- Example 1 A mixture of 66 percent by weight alkyl sulfonic acid esters of phenols (commercial product) and 34 percent by weight petroleum (boiling range 180 to 245 ° C.) is used to clean a system as in Example 1. The cleaning result is equivalent to that of Example 1.
- the contaminated cleaning agent residues of Examples 1 to 3 are allowed to react with water, as a result of which the isocyanate components are converted into harmless products. If necessary, ammonia and / or an alcohol can be added.
- the solids formed are separated from the liquid phase by settling. This can be used again to produce a cleaning agent according to the invention.
Abstract
