Definitions

  • the invention relates to a chimney hood to be placed on the upper end of a fireplace, consisting of an inner frame part and an outer frame part attached to it, which form a vertical space between them, the outer frame part being vertically offset and having a larger diameter than that inner frame part and the lower edge of the outer frame part is below the upper edge of the inner frame part, and wherein the two frame parts are connected to one another by plate-shaped struts, which bridge the space between the two frame parts and prevent the wind from sweeping sideways along the chimney, the chimney hood in upper area in the middle has a cover against the ingress of precipitation and sun rays, which covers the inner frame part and with the outer frame part leaves a circumferential outlet gap for the smoke.
  • a chimney hood of this type is known from FR-A-1 390 476.
  • the inner frame part is formed by a smooth tube, which is used for insertion into the chimney of a fireplace.
  • This smooth tube is surrounded by a cylindrical shell forming the outer frame part, the tube (inner frame part) and the cylindrical shell (outer frame part) being kept apart by the plate-shaped struts.
  • a total of eight plate-shaped struts are distributed around the chimney hood.
  • the upper end of the cylindrical shell is drawn in in the shape of a truncated cone and leaves an outlet opening of approximately the same diameter as the cylindrical tube free.
  • a conical body serving as a cover is sunk into the outlet opening and is attached to the plate-shaped struts approximately in the middle between the outlet opening and the upper edge of the smooth tube.
  • the spaces delimited by the plate-shaped struts form channels, the height of which is a multiple of the width between adjacent plate-shaped struts.
  • air channels are formed which act as wind passages and change the direction of the wind coming from the side and thus prevent the wind from sweeping sideways along the chimney.
  • a roofed chimney cap has become known, the overall height of which is kept lower than in the aforementioned chimney cap.
  • Two square frame parts are nested in one another such that the lower edge of the outer frame part is below the upper edge of the inner frame part and the upper edge of the outer frame part above the upper edge of the inner frame part.
  • a cover is also provided here.
  • the two frame parts are at a close distance from one another and are held in their position relative to one another by means of brackets (not shown).
  • brackets not shown
  • the outer frame part widens outwards.
  • wind deflector panels preventing the wind from sweeping along the side of the chimney and extending to below the outer frame part are not provided.
  • the present invention has for its object to provide an improved chimney hood starting from a chimney hood of the type initially known as known (FR-A-1 390 476), which with simple manual or factory manufacture a safe protection against the smoke being pushed into the fireplace offers winds from various directions. Precautions should also be taken to prevent the flue gas from being pulled out of the chimney and the incoming wind, no matter from which direction, should calm down.
  • FR-A-1 390 476 FR-A-1 390 476
  • the solution to this problem is characterized in that the outer frame part widens from its lower edge to the upper edge, that the cover essentially covers the area enclosed by the lower edge of the outer frame part, that the plate-shaped struts diagonally into the corners are arranged and that the outer and inner frame part form the plate-shaped struts and the covering of the cover wind chambers, the width of which is substantially greater than its height.
  • Such a chimney hood is characterized by a particularly uniform flue gas outlet, in which both undesired backflow and unwanted tearing of flue gases out of the chimney are avoided. It a uniform smoke gas extraction is achieved, which makes it possible to work with a comparatively low flue gas inlet temperature, so that energy is saved. Despite the uniform flue gas extraction, it is also ensured that precipitation and sun rays do not penetrate the chimney and can impair the functioning of the chimney. Deciding on the mode of operation of the chimney hood according to the invention is that the incoming wind in the wind chambers calms down, while the prior art only has wind passages in which the direction of the incoming wind changes.
  • a chimney hood of the type according to the invention is particularly well suited for simple manufacture from sheet metal (claim 3). It is particularly advantageous if each of the wind chambers is delimited at the bottom by a flange projecting outwards from the lower frame part (claim 4) and if the chimney hood has a rectangular outline (claim 5).
  • the floor plan is square for the so-called pull-in version and rectangular for the multiple-pull version in which a chimney hood covers several adjacent flue gas flues.
  • the principle on which the invention is based has also proven itself for such an embodiment.
  • the cover has a central smoke extraction opening surrounded by a raised edge, which in turn is even better protected against the entry of precipitation and sun rays by a cover placed at a distance above it (claim 7).
  • the cover and the lid are inclined in a flat roof (claim 8).
  • the outer frame part has roof-shaped openings (claim 9). A further regulation of the flow can be achieved by means of this.
  • the height of the outer frame part is approximately twice as high as the distance of the lower edge of the outer frame part from the outwardly facing flange of the inner frame part (claim 10).
  • the claimed design with the upwardly widening outer frame part also means that part of the incoming wind is already rejected on the outer frame part, whereas the wind caught between the lower edge of the outer frame part and the outward flange of the inner frame part is between the wind chamber formed by the frame parts soothes and ensures a regulated train.
  • Fig. 1 shows a chimney hood for exposure to the upper end of a fireplace.
  • the chimney hood shown has a square base.
  • the base area can also be selected differently, in particular rectangularly, if several chimneys located next to one another are to be covered by chimneys.
  • an inner frame part 10 has side flanges 16.
  • the inner frame part of the chimney hood and also its other parts are made of weather-resistant sheet metal, in particular V4A.
  • the edge length of the inner frame part 10 is approximately 250 mm and its height is approximately 100 mm.
  • the inner frame part represents an extension of the chimney, an outer frame part 11 being fastened to the inner frame part by means of plate-shaped struts 12.
  • the plate-shaped struts 12 are arranged at the corners of the square and form wind trap plates which run obliquely down to the lower edge and the flanges 16 of the inner frame part 10. This creates wind chambers in which the wind coming from all sides calms down.
  • the outer frame part 11 is expanded from its lower edge to the upper edge.
  • the lower edge of the outer frame part lies approximately 40 mm above the lower edge and the flanges 16 of the inner frame part. This distance represents the entry area for the wind impinging on the chimney into the space formed between the inner frame part 10 and the outer frame part 11.
  • the height of the outer frame part is approximately twice as high as the mentioned distance of the lower edge of the outer frame part 11 from the flange 16 of the lower part of the frame.
  • the entrance width of the space between the lower edge of the outer frame part 11 and the inner frame part 10 is approximately the same size and preferably slightly smaller than the distance between the lower edge of the outer frame part 10 and the flange 16 of the inner frame part.
  • the conical extension of the outer frame part upwards is dimensioned such that the width of the intermediate space increases to approximately twice up to the upper edge of the outer frame part 10. Due to the dimensional relationships described however, the outer frame part extends at a good half of its height beyond the upper edge of the inner frame part.
  • the struts serving as windscreen panels also extend a little diagonally upwards over the upper edge of the inner frame part.
  • a foldable rain and sun protection plate 13 is attached to the inner frame part at a distance upwards as a cover. This is flat-roof-shaped and essentially covers the area enclosed by the lower edge of the outer frame part 10. Rain flowing out of the mudguard 13 thus returns to the outside through the space between the inner frame part 10 and the outer frame part 11. An outlet gap for the smoke extends around the mudguard 13.
  • the outer frame part 11 widening from its lower edge to the upper edge, defines itself with the inner frame part 10 and the wind deflector plates of the struts 12 arranged in the corners, as well as the edge projection of the rain and sun protection plate 13 partially covering the space between the outer frame part 11 and the inner frame part 10 Wind chamber at the top and to the side, which prevents excessive draft and turbulence from the incoming wind and ensures a calm flow.
  • the wind chamber is much wider than it is high.
  • the flange 16 also limits them.
  • the design of the chimney hood described so far can advantageously be further developed in that in the middle of the mudguard 13 it also has a smoke extraction opening 17 surrounded by a raised edge 15. This is covered by a cover 18, which occupies a somewhat larger area than the smoke exhaust opening 17 and is also flat-roof-shaped.
  • the cover 18 has approximately half the edge length of the fender 13 and is held at a distance from the fender 13 by means of corner supports 19.
  • wide pull-through areas 20 are formed on all four sides of the cover 18, of which only one can be seen in FIG. 1.
  • the height of such a passage area is, for example, 30 mm and the width is, for example, 100 mm.
  • openings which are covered in a roof shape can be arranged in the upwardly widening side walls of the outer frame part 11. Such are shown in the vertical position at 14 and in the horizontal position at 21.
  • the horizontal arrangement as shown at 21 is preferred, and depending on the local requirements, several such openings can be arranged one below the other in a manner not shown.
  • Several groups of openings 21 arranged one below the other can also be distributed over the width of the wall of the outer frame part 11. The distribution over the different sides of the chimney hood can also be different depending on local requirements.
  • the illustrated and described chimney hood according to the invention can be designed constructively in a variety of ways.
  • the specified dimensional relationships represent a preferred embodiment for the quadratic embodiment.
