Definitions
- the invention relates to a tracer cartridge according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the water resistance of the cartridges required for military ammunition is generally achieved by applying bitumen lacquer in the case mouth.
- the bitumen lacquer is usually stripped off when the bullet is inserted into the lacquered sleeve mouth, thereby reducing its sealing effect.
- the invention relates to a special design of the projectile, which makes it possible to achieve better water resistance without the use of additional sealants, only with the conventional interior coating of the sleeve with bitumen coating, so that it is equivalent to that of soft core ammunition.
- This sealing effect is achieved according to the invention in that a sealing groove is provided between the gag groove and the rear of the projectile and is filled with lacquer from the sleeve mouth.
- this sealing groove when the bullet is inserted into the lacquered sleeve, the sealing stack that is still present accumulates, thereby forming a sealing ring running around the bullet.
- the sealing groove can have any cross section. With regard to the sealing effect and manufacturability, sealing grooves with a trapezoidal, triangular or circular segment-shaped cross section have proven to be particularly favorable.
- Bullet shapes with grooves are known, but the known grooves serve either as pinch grooves or as a type of labyrinth seal or as relief grooves in the barrel. An interaction of the grooves with lacquer applied in the sleeve mouth is not apparent from the known bullets.
- a floor of a tracer cartridge according to the invention is shown in partial section in Fig. 1. 2-5 show preferred cross-sectional shapes of the sealing groove.
- the projectile 1 is provided in the usual way with a gag groove 2 for anchoring the sleeve.
- a sealing groove 4 is provided between the gag groove 2 and the rear 3 of the projectile 1.
- the sealing groove 4 has a trapezoidal cross section according to FIGS. 2 and 5, a triangular or circular segment cross section according to FIGS. 3 and 4.
