Definitions

  • the invention relates to a control in a typewriter of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1.
  • US-A-3 927 752 discloses a typesetting system with a standard typewriter keyboard and an additional auxiliary keyboard, by means of which other characters can be generated with a key on the typewriter keyboard when a key is pressed. These auxiliary keys are comparable in their effectiveness to the known shift key for upper / lower case. Letters of another language can also be represented in this way, but there are no selection devices by means of which the machine can first be set to a certain basic keyboard and then to a selectable character set.
  • a keyboard is known from DE-A-26 27 698, to which different groups of symbols can optionally be switched. These symbol groups are stored in a symbol memory and can be called up by pressing a special key.
  • FR-A-2 389 491 discloses a data station for data processing systems, in which the data input keys are arranged in several key blocks.
  • the input keys of a key block are the characters z. B. the English language and another key block assigned the special characters at least one other language.
  • the selection devices mentioned above are also not known here.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a controller of the type mentioned, with which using a standard keyboard, writing with different character sets on the same machine is possible.
  • a keyboard designed according to the national regulations of one country can be adapted by switching to the requirements of the national regulations of another country, the type carrier being set to the corresponding other types and, if necessary, a different printing position being carried out, if a key has a different meaning.
  • the use of the keyboard can be further expanded by multiple assignment in conjunction with a corresponding selection of the assignment assigned to the type holder.
  • the creation of special keyboards is not only for strongly different other languages but also for. B. possible for mathematical or scientific purposes with special characters.
  • B. can be distinguished between a basic setting to be carried out only once or at least only extremely rarely and a setting that is to be changed more frequently. Such a separate setting is such.
  • FIG. 1 shows the components required for understanding the invention as a block diagram. Shown are a character and function keyboard 1, a printing unit 2, a microcomputer 9 that controls the machine functions, a character generator 27 and an external assembly 28 connected via a plug-in receptacle 29 of the machine , over which data, addresses and control signals are transmitted.
  • the microcomputer 9 has, in a manner known per se and therefore not shown in detail, a central control unit, program and data memory and input and output circuits via which the keyboard 1 and the printing unit 2 are connected.
  • the memory 11 is divided into a plurality of memory areas, each of which contains a code converter 12 to 26. Both the memory 11 and the character generator 27 do not need to be independent assemblies but can instead be contained in the memories of the microcomputer 9.
  • the printing unit 2 has a type disk as a total type carrier 3, the printing types arranged on radial lamellae of which can be adjusted into the printing position by rotating the type disk in the direction of the arrow 6.
  • the keypad of the character and function keyboard 1 is formed by a basic keyboard in a known structure and with a known, standardized character assignment, as can be seen in particular in the left part of FIG.
  • the keys in the right part of the keypad are each assigned multiple characters, most of which are required in the languages of other countries. Pressing one of these keys can therefore result in the imprint of one of the characters depicted on the key top, depending on a selection which is explained in more detail below.
  • the actuation of one of the keys of the keyboard 1 has the result that a code signal assigned to the key arrives via the microcomputer 9 at one of the code converters 12 to 26 of the memory 11, which converts the code signal into signals for setting the type carrier 3 and the printing position relative to the recording medium 4 converts.
  • These setting signals are sent to the control circuit and the positioning drives 5 of the printing unit 2 via the microcomputer 9, which carries out the time-dependent and other functions-dependent control in all cases, so that setting and printing can be carried out.
  • a slide switch is also provided as a selection device 30, which can assume one of five setting positions 31 to 35.
  • the output signal corresponding to the respective setting position 31 to 35 causes one of the five code converters 12 to 16 of the first row, 17 to 21 of the second row or 22 to 26 of the third row to be selected and assigned to the keyboard.
  • the setting position 31 may be assigned to the French language, the setting of the slide switch to the setting position 31 resulting in the assignment of a code converter 12, 17, 22 in the memory 11 to the keyboard, by pressing a multi-assigned character key that of a French one
  • Corresponding characters in the keyboard layout are set in printing unit 2 and printed. Any necessary step suppression, line switching movements or similar are also taken into account.
  • Setting the selection device 30 to a different one of the setting positions 31 to 35 results in a corresponding assignment to another code converter 12 to 16 assigned to a different language in the first row, 17 to 21 in the second row or 22 to 26 in the third row , wherein the characters corresponding to this other language of the multi-assigned keys can be printed.
  • a further selection device 36 (slide switch) is arranged on the keyboard 1 and also has a plurality of setting positions 37 to 39. By setting this selection device to one of the setting positions 37 to 39, one of the three code converter rows 12 to 16, 17 to 21, 22 to 26 can be preselected in the memory 11.
  • the selection device 36 thus has three setting positions 37 to 39 and the memory 11 has three code converter groups 12 to 16, 17 to 21 and 22 to 26, each with five code converters.
  • a setting of the selection device 30 will accordingly select a code converter from the first, the second or the third group for the set language.
  • the code converter 36 is shown here as part of the keyboard 1, it will usually be arranged separately from it under the machine clothing, because its setting is usually only for the first time when the machine is equipped or at a later point in time when it is converted by a technical expert and not will be done by the operator.
  • the setting positions 31 to 35 of the first selection device 30 can expediently be marked with different colors, so that the orientation for the operator is simplified with a corresponding color representation of the respectively associated characters on the multiply assigned character keys.
  • Some languages, such as B. the Greek language have such a number of different types of characters that it is no longer possible to accommodate all of the characters on a standard sum type carrier 3.
  • a character generator 27 is provided, the output signals of which control the printing of composed characters.
  • the code converter assigned to such a language e.g.
  • the code converter 26 when the selection device 30 is set to the setting position 35 and the selection device 36 to the setting position 39) supplies its output information to the character generator 27 when a key is pressed for a character to be combined it supplies the necessary setting signals for a two or more settings of the type carrier to the partial characters to be printed, as well as the required setting signals for column and / or row-by-row change of the printing position or suppression of an adjustment movement to the control circuit and the positioning drives 5 of the printing unit 2. On the basis of these setting signals, all the partial characters belonging to the complete character are successively printed in the correct position.
  • the type support 3 can be equipped in such a way that character elements are provided for the composition of characters or that characters are composed of two or more characters that are also meaningful. Output information from the code converter 26, which relates to characters that are not to be composed, are fed directly to the printing unit 2 via the microcomputer 9.
  • the machine also has a plug-in receptacle 29, via which a plug-in module 28 provided with further code converters can be connected.
  • the selection devices 30 and 36 can be provided with further setting positions, shown in dashed lines, so that the possible variations can be increased still further. This can be particularly useful if the sum type carrier 3 can be exchanged for one with additional or different characters.
  • selection devices 30, 36 designed as a slide switch
  • other setting elements for. B. Keys of a separate keypad can be used.
  • code converters in an internal machine memory, to load them from an external memory into a data memory of the machine, as a result of which special selection devices can possibly be dispensed with.
  • all code converters on plug-in modules so that the machine is connected to the code converter applicable to a selected language via an interface corresponding to the plug-in receptacle 29.
