Das hat zur Folge, daß ein Bediener der einen Nationalität beim Schreiben auf Schreibmaschinen anderer Nationalität erhöhte Aufmerksamkeit aufwenden muß und unter Umständen bestimmte Zeichen auf der Tastatur gar nicht vorfindet. Unterdrückung einer Einstellbewegung an die Ansteuerschaltung und die Positionierantriebe 5 des Druckwerkes 2 liefert. Aufgrund dieser Einstellsignale werden nacheinander alle zu dem vollständigen Zeichen gehörenden Teilzeichen positionsgerecht abgedruckt. Der Typenträger 3 kann dabei so ausgestattet sein, daß Zeichenelemente für das Zusammensetzen von Zeichen vorgesehen sind oder daß Zeichen aus zwei oder mehreren für sich ebenfalls aussagefähigen Zeichen zusammengesetzt werden. Claims (6)

1. A control in a typewriter with a printing mechanism having a total type carrier (3), a character and a function keyboard (1), the keys of which at least in part have a multiple character range, and with code converters (12 to 26), by which there is effected a conversion of the code signals of actuated keys into setting signals for the positioning drive of the typewriter for setting the type carrier (3) and/or print position of a character, wherein plurality of code converters (12 to 26) is provided, of which each (12 to 26) is assigned to a selected character range of the keyboard (1) and is arranged in its own memory region of a register (11) inside the machine, characterized in that the character range of the keyboard (1) and thus the selection of the code converter (12 to 26) is effected via two selection arrangements (36, 30), of which the whole keyboard (1) can be set to a standardised character range of a basic keyboard via one selection arrangement (36) and the character range of the multi-range keys can be adapted to a selectable foreign language via the other selection arrangement (30).
2. A control according to Claim 1, characterized in that a character generator (27) is provided, to which can be fed, in at least one certain setting of the selection arrangement (30), the output signals of the code converter (12 to 26) called up by the actuation of some certain keys, which generator produces therefrom a sequence of setting signals, according to which there can be carried out, one after the other, at least two settings of the type carrier (3) and/or the print position with appropriate character strike-off for the representation of a composed character.

A control according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the second selection arrangement (36) has a sliding switch with a plurality of setting positions in the keyboard (1) of the typewriter, of which each is associated with a selected character range of the keyboard (1), and in that by setting the switch in the setting positions (31 to 35) the, in each case, associated code coverter (12 to 26) can be selected.
