Abstract
Verwendung von Emulsionscopolymerisaten aus a) 30 bis 80 Gew.-% C4- bis C8-Alkylacrylaten oder Mischungen aus C4- bis C8-Alkylacrylaten und C4- bis C8-Dialkylestern der Maleinsäure, b) 8 bis 30 Gew.-% Acrylsäure und/oder Methacrylsäure, c) 0 bis 50 Gew.-% Vinylpropionat, Vinylacetat, Methylacrylat, Äthylacrylat und/oder α-verzweigter C10-Monocarbonsäurevinylester, d) 0 bis 5 Gew.-% Acrylamid, Methacryiamid, Vinylsulfonsäure, 2-Acrylamido-2-methylpropansulfonsäure und/oder Acrylnitril und e) 0 bis 3 Gew.-% vernetzend wirkenden Monomeren in Form von wäßrigen Dispersionen als alleiniges Bindemittel und Verdickungsmittel für Papierstreichmassen.
Description
- Es ist seit längerem bekannt, in Papierstreichmassen wäßrige Dispersionen von Kunststoffen als synthetische Bindemittel zusammen mit natürlichen Bindemitteln, wie Stärke, Casein oder Sojaprotein, zu verwenden. Diese Papierstreichmassen weisen aber auf schnellaufenden Streichmaschinen oft eine unzureichende Scherstabilität und eine unbefriedigende Verträglichkeit mit bestimmten Pigmenten, wie Satinweiß, auf.
- Aus der US-PS 3 081 198 ist bekannt, als Bindemittel für Papierstreichmassen Mischungen aus wasser- und alkaliunlöslichen Acrylester- und Vinylester-Copolymerisatdispersionen mit wasserlöslichen Ammoniumsalzen von Acrylsäure--Acrylester-Copolymerisaten zu verwenden. Die damit hergestellten Pigmentstriche weisen eine ungenügende Bedruckbarkeit im Tiefdruck auf, die sich darin äußert, daß die Tiefdruckfarbe vor allem in den Halbtönen nicht ausreichend gleichmäßig auf den Strich übertragen wird und damit Fehlstellen, sogenannte "missing dots", im Druck auftreten.
- Aus der DE-PS 12 58 721 sind Bindemittelmischungen für neutrale oder alkalische Papierstreichmassen auf der Basis von wäßrigen Dispersionen bekannt. Es handelt sich dabei um Emulsionscopolymerisate A, die 40 bis 70 Gewichtsteile Styrol, 30 bis 60 Gewichtsteile eines Esters der Acryl-oder Methacrylsäure mit Alkoholen, die 2 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatome in der Kette enthalten, und gegebenenfalls bis zu 10 Teilen anderen äthylenisch-ungesättigten-copolymerisierbaren Verbindungen bestehen und einem Emulsionscopolymerisat B aus 15 bis 55 Gew.-% Acryl- und bzw. oder Methacrylsäure, gegebenenfalls bis zu 10 Gew.-% Acryl- und/ oder Methacrylamid und 85 bis 45 Gew.-% anderen, wasserunlösliche Homopolymerisate bildenden Monomeren, wovon mindestens 20 Gew.-%, bezogen auf diese hydrophoben Monomeren, Ester der Acrylsäure oder Methacrylsäure mit Alkoholen sind, die 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen,enthalten. Die Bindemittelmischung enthält 5 bis 40 Gew.-Teile min- destens eines Copolymerisates B und 95 bis 60 Gew.-Teile mindestens eines Copolymerisates A. Die Papierstreichfarben, die unter Verwendung dieser Bindemittelmischungen hergestellt werden, erfüllen zwar die verarbeitungstechnischen Anforderungen, genügen aber nicht mehr den gestiegenen Ansprüchen an die-Bedruckbarkeit der damit gestrichenen Papiere im Magazintiefdruck.
- Aus der DE-AS 11 00 450 ist eine Streichmasse zur Herstellung von Kunstdruckpapier bekannt, die auf 100 Gew.--Teile eines Pigments, 8 bis 25 Gew.-Teile eines wasserunlöslichen Mischpolymerisats aus mindestens einem Alkylacrylat und 2,5 bis 7 Gew.-% mindestens eines Amids, z.B. der Methacrylsäure oder Acrylsäure oder eines Salzes eines wasserunlöslichen Mischpolymerisats aus mindestens einem Alkylacrylat und 2,5 bis 7 Gew.-% einer äthylenisch-ungesättigten Carbonsäure wie Itaconsäure, Aconitsäure, Maleinsäure, Fumarsäure oder dem dimeren oder trimeren der Methacrylsäure als alleiniges Bindemittel enthält. Nach den Angaben in der Patentschrift erhöhen Copolymerisate, die 4 bis 5 Gew.-% oder mehr an Acrylsäure oder Methacrylsäure einpolymerisiert enthalten, die Viskosität alkalischer Papierstreichmassen in einem unerwünschten Maße, so daß ihr Einsatz in Papierstreichmassen als alleiniges Bindemittel nicht in Betracht kommt.
- Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, ein Bindemittel für Papierstreichmassen zur Verfügung zu stellen, das als alleini-L ' ges Bindemittel verwendet werden kann und dabei gleichzeitig der Papierstreichmasse eine ausreichend hohe Viskosität und Wasserretention verleiht, so daß auf die bisher üblichen Zusätze zur Erhöhung der Viskosität und der Wasserretention von Papierstreichmassen verzichtet werden kann.
- Die Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß gelöst durch Verwendung von Emulsionscopolymerisaten aus
- a) 30 bis 80 Gew.-% C4- bis Cs-Alkylacrylaten oder Mischungen aus C4- bis C8-Alkylacrylaten und C4- bis CS-Dialkylestern der Maleinsäure,
- b) 8 bis 30 Gew.-% Acrylsäure und/oder Methacrylsäure,
- c) 0 bis 50 Gew.-% Vinylpropionat, Vinylacetat, Methylacrylat, Äthylacrylat und/oder α-verzweigter C10-Mono- carbonsäurevinylester,
- d) 0 bis 5 Gew.-% Acrylamid, Methacrylamid, Vinylsulfonsäure, 2-Acrylamido-2-methylpropansulfon- säure und/oder Acrylnitril und
- e) 0 bis 3 Gew.-% vernetzend wirkenden Monomeren
- Die Emulsionscopolymerisate werden nach bekannten Verfahren hergestellt. Wesentlicher Bestandteil dieser Copolymerisate sind C4- bis C8-Alkylacrylate, wie n-Butylacrylat, Isobutylacrylat, Pentyl-acrylat, n-Hexylacrylat und 2-Äthylhexylacrylat sowie Mischungen aus C4- bis C8-Alkylacrylaten mit gegebenenfalls untergeordneten Mengen an C4- bis C8-Dialkylester der Maleinsäure, z.B. Di-n-Butylester der Maleinsäure, Di-isobutylester der Maleinsäure sowie Maleinsäure-di-2-äthylhexylester. Die genannten Maleinsäureester werden zum teilweisen Ersatz der in Betracht kommenden Acrylsäureester verwendet und sind gegebenenfalls bis zu 20 Gew.-% in der Monomerenmischung a) enthalten. Vorzugsweise leiten sich die Acrylsäure- und Maleinsäureester von einwertigen primären oder sekundären C4- bis CS-Alkoholen ab. Die Monomeren der Gruppe a) sind entweder allein oder in Mischung im Copolymerisat enthalten. So ist es beispielsweise möglich, Mischungen aus n-Butylacrylat und 2-Ethylhexylacrylat oder aus n-Butylacrylat und Di-n-butylester der Maleinsäure zu verwenden. Die Monomeren der Gruppe a) sind zu 30 bis 80, vorzugsweise 35 bis 50 Gew.-% am Aufbau des Emulsionscopolymerisates beteiligt.
- Als zweite wesentliche Komponente enthalten die Emulsionscopolymerisate die Monomeren der Gruppe b), und zwar Acrylsäure oder Methacrylsäure sowie auch Mischungen aus Acrylsäure und Methacrylsäure. Diese beiden ethylenisch ungesättigten Carbonsäuren sind zu 8 bis 30, vorzugsweise 12 bis 20 Gew.-% am Aufbau des Copolymerisats beteiligt.
- Außer den genannten beiden Gruppen von Monomeren können die Emulsionscopolymerisate zur Modifizierung wahlweise Vinylpropionat, Vinylacetat, Methylacrylat und/oder Ethylacrylat und/oder α-verzweigte C10-Monocarbonsäurevinyl- ester als Monomeren der Gruppe c) einpolymerisiert enthalten. Diese Monomeren sind bis höchstens 50 Gew.-% im Copolymerisat enthalten.
- Ebenso werden die Monomeren der Gruppe d) nur wahlweise verwendet, wenn es darum geht, die Eigenschaften des Emulsionscopolymerisates in gewisser Weise zu modifizieren. Und zwar verwendet man hierzu eine weitere Gruppe von Monomeren, z.B. meist wasserlösliche Monomere, wie Acrylamid, Methacrylamid, Vinylsulfonsäure, 2-Acrylamido-2--methylpropansulfonsäure und/oder Acrylnitril. Auch diese Gruppe von Monomeren kann entweder allein oder in Mischung ' bei der Emulsionspolymerisation eingesetzt werden. Diese Monomeren können in einer Menge bis zu 5 Gew.-% im Copolymerisat enthalten sein.
- Die Eigenschaften der Emulsionscopolymerisate können auch dadurch modifiziert werden, daß man die Emulsionspolymerisation in Gegenwart von bis zu 3 Gew.-%, bezogen auf die Monomerenmischung, vernetzend wirkender Monomerer vornimmt (Monomere der Gruppe e). Solche Monomere sind z.B. Methylen-bis-(meth)acrylamide, Di- und Poly-(meth)acrylate von zwei- oder mehrwertigen C2- bis C6-Alkoholen, Divinyldioxan, Diallylphthalat, Di- oder Triallylether von zwei-oder mehrwertigen Alkoholen, insbesondere von Pentaerythrit, Di-(meth)acrylate von Poly-ethylen- bzw. -propylenglycolen.
- Um die Monomeren zu polymerisieren, stellt man im Normalfall zunächst wäßrige Emulsionen der Monomeren her. Vorzugsweise werden die Monomeren gemischt und mit Hilfe von Emulgiermitteln in Wasser emulgiert. Geeignete Emulgiermittel sind beispielsweise die Alkali- und Ammoniumsalze der n-Dodecylsulfonsäure, der Dodecylbenzolsulfonsäure oder die entsprechenden Salze der Schwefelsäurehalbester von langkettigen Alkoholen mit gerader Kohlenstoffzahl bzw. mit 2 bis 25 Mol Äthylenoxid umgesetzte höhere Fettalkohole, die mit Schwefelsäure zu den entsprechenden Schwefelsäurehalbestern der äthoxylierten Alkohole umgesetzt werden. Daneben eignen sich mit 5 bis 25 Mol Äthylenoxid umgesetzte Alkylphenole, z.B. Para-iso-octylphenol bzw. deren Schwefelsäurehalbester in Form der Na- bzw. K-Salze. Außerdem kommen die entsprechenden Salze der Sulfobernsteinsäure als Emulgatoren in Betracht. Die Emulgatoren werden in der Regel in Mengen von 0,5 bis 5 Gew.-%, bezogen auf die zu polymeriserenden Monomeren, eingesetzt.
- Notfalls lassen sich die Dispersionen nach dem sog. Monomerenzulaufverfahren, bei dem die Voremulgierung unterbleibt, herstellen.
- Als Polymerisationsinitiatoren können übliche radikalbildende Verbindungen, wie Peroxide, Persulfate, Hydroperoxide oder Azoverbindungen verwendet werden. Beispielsweise eignen sich Kaliumpersulfat, Kumolhydroperoxid oder Wasserstoffperoxid. Es ist auch möglich, die Polymerisation mit Hilfe von Redox-Katalysatoren oder mit aktivierten Initiatorsystemen zu initiieren, z.B. mit einem System aus Kaliumpersulfat und Ascorbinsäure oder oximethansulfonsaurem Natrium oder Triäthanolamin. Die Temperaturen bei der Polymerisation liegen in dem üblichen Bereich, z.B. zwischen 70 und 95°C, sie können jedoch auch niedriger liegen, sofern man Redox-Katalysatoren einsetzt. Ebenso ist es möglich, auch bei höheren Temperaturen und unter Druck zu polymerisieren. Um das Molekulargewicht der Polymerisate zu regeln, kann man bei der Polymerisation die gebräuchlichen Kettenüberträger verwenden, z.B. Dodecylmercaptan und halogenierte Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie Chloroform, Tetrachlorkohlenstoff und Tetrachloräthylen.
- Man erhält auf diese Weise stabile Dispersionen von Copolymerisaten, deren Konzentration 20 bis 50 Gew.-% beträgt. Vorzugsweise werden Polymerdispersionen mit einer hohen Konzentration an Polymeren hergestellt.
- Für die Papierstreichmassen kommen die üblichen dafür verwendeten feinteiligen Pigmente in Betracht, z.B. die verschiedenen Clay-Sorten, Kreide, Satinweiß und Titandioxid. Die Papierstreichmassen, die zur Herstellung von Tief- druckpapieren verwendet werden, enthalten auf 100 Gew.-Teile eines feinteiligen Pigments 4 bis 7, vorzugsweise 4,2 bis 5,5 Gew.-Teile eines der oben beschriebenen Emulsionscopolymerisate bzw. einer Mischung der in Betracht kommenden Emulsionscopolymerisate. Sie können außerdem übliche Zusatzstoffe enthalten, z.B. 0,05 bis 3 Gew.-% eines Dispergiermittels auf Basis von niedrigmolekularen Polymerisaten der Acrylsäure (K-Wert des Polymerisats zwischen 10 und 25), optische Aufheller sowie übliche Hilfsstoffe, wie Stearate, Nuancierfarbstoffe, Schaumverhüter, Basen usw. Der pH-Wert der fertigen Papierstreichmasse liegt in der Regel zwischen 6,5 und 10, vorzugsweise zwischen 8 und 9,5. Für die Herstellung von Papieren, die im Offsetdruck bedruckt werden, verwendet man auf 100 Gew.-Teile eines feinteiligen Pigments ca. 10 bis 20 Gew.-Teile der oben beschriebenen Emulsionscopolymerisate. Die mit Alkali verdickbaren Emulsionscopolymerisate eignen sich auch als alleiniges Bindemittel in Papierstreichmassen, die zur Herstellung von Papieren verwendet werden, die im Buchdruck und im Flexodruck bedruckt werden.
- Die erfindungsgemäß zu verwendenden Emulsionscopolymerisate werden als alleiniges mit Alkali (z.B. Natronlauge, Kalilauge, Ammoniak und Amine verdickbares Bindemittel in Papierstreichmassen eingesetzt und erübrigen weitere Zusätze, wie Verdickungsmittel oder natürliche und andere synthetische Binder. Dieses bedeutet eine Vereinfachung der Streichfarbenrezepturen. Außerdem erhält man Papiere, die - auch bei einem geringen Einsatz des Copolymerisats als Bindemittel in Papierstreichmassen - hervorragend im Tiefdruck bedruckt werden können, ohne daß ein Stauben des Pigmentstrichs beobachtet wird. Die so erhaltenen Papiere sind besser im Tiefdruck bedruckbar als Papiere, die unter Verwendung anderer Bindemittel bzw. Bindemittelmischungen hergestellt worden sind. Die bessere Qualität des Druckausfalls beim Tiefdruck wird anhand von Fehlstellen (missing-dots) beurteilt.
- Die fertigen Papierstreichmassen können nach allen bekannten Verfahren auf Rohpapiere aufgebracht werden. Wegen der hohen Scherstabilität der Emulsionscopolymerisate können die Papierstreichmassen auf schnellaufenden Walzen-oder Schaberstreichanlagen verwendet werden. Vorzugsweise wird ein ungeleimtes Rohpapier gestrichen. Daneben ist es auch möglich, Pigmentstriche auf Papieren vorzunehmen, die entweder in der Masse oder in der Oberfläche geleimt wurden.
- Die in den folgenden Beispielen genannten Teile und Prozente sind auf das Gewicht der Stoffe bezogen. Die K-Werte wurden bestimmt nach H. Fikentscher, Cellulose-Chemie 13, 58 bis 64 und 71 bis 74 (1932) in 0,5 %igen Dimethylformamidlösungen bei 20°C; dabei bedeutet K = k . 103.
- Herstellung wäßriger Dispersionen von Emulsionscopolymerisaten
- Als Polymerisationsapparatur wurde ein 2-1-Vierhalskolben verwendet, der mit Rührer, Thermometer, Rückflußkühler und zwei Zulaufgefäßen versehen war. Das Zulaufgefäß I enthielt eine wäßrige Emulsion aus 560 Teilen n-Butylacrylat, 70 Teilen Methacrylsäure, 70 Teilen Acrylsäure und 270 Teilen Wasser; die Emulsion wurde durch Mischen der genannten Komponenten in Gegenwart von 25 Teilen einer 28 %igen wäßrigen Lösung des Natriumsalzes eines sulfatierten Umsetzungsproduktes aus einem geradkettigen C12/C14-Alkohol (Kokosfettalkohol) mit 2,5 Mol Ethylenoxid als Emulgator hergestellt. In dem zweiten Zulaufgefäß war eine Lösung von 1,05 Teilen Kaliumperoxodisulfat in 150 Teilen Wasser (Zulauf II).
- Im Reaktionskolben legte man 270 Teile Wasser, 30 Teile des Zulaufs I und 15 Teile des Zulaufs II vor und heizte den Kolbeninhalt unter Rühren auf eine Temperatur von 75°C auf. Nach einer 15minütigen Anfangspolymerisationszeit ließ man den Zulauf I innerhalb von 80 Minuten und gleichzeitig den Zulauf II innerhalb von 90 Minuten bei einer Polymerisationstemperatur von 75°C zulaufen. Nach Beendigung der Monomeren- und Katalysatorzugabe wurde das Reaktionsgemisch nach 2 Stunden auf einer Temperatur von 75°C gehalten, danach gekühlt und filtriert. Man erhielt eine 49,9 %ige Dispersion eines Copolymerisates aus 80 % n-Butylacrylat, 10 % Methacrylsäure und 10 % Acrylsäure.
- In der oben beschriebenen Polymerisationsapparatur wurde ein Copolymerisat aus 35 % n-Butylacrylat, 15 % Acrylsäure, 35 % Ethylhexylacrylat und 15 % Vinylacetat hergestellt. Man bereitete zunächst einen Zulauf I, der aus einer Emulsion von 245 Teilen n-Butylacrylat, 245 Teilen 2-Ethylhexylacrylat, 105 Teilen Vinylacetat, 105 Teilen Acrylsäure, 235 Teilen Wasser und 140 Teilen einer 20 %igen Lösung des Natriumsalzes des sulfatierten Umsetzungsproduktes aus Isooctylphenol mit 25 Mol Ethylenoxid bestand. Als Zulauf II verwendete man eine Lösung von 3,5 Teilen Kaliumperoxodisulfat in 150 Teilen Wasser.
- Im Reaktionsgefäß wurden 234 Teile Wasser, 54 Teile des Zulaufs I und 15 Teile des Zulaufs II vorgelegt und auf eine Temperatur von 85°C erhitzt. Nach einer Anpolymerisationsdauer von 15 Minuten bei einer Temperatur von 85°C wurde der Zulauf I innerhalb von 105 Minuten und der Zulauf II innerhalb von 120 Minuten kontinuierlich zugegeben. Die Innentemperatur betrug während der Polymerisation ' 85°C und wurde noch 2 Stunden nach Beendigung der Monomeren- und Initiatorzugabe aufrechterhalten. Danach kühlte man das Reaktionsgemisch und filtrierte es durch ein Sieb. Man erhielt eine 48,5 %ige wäßrige Dispersion.
- In der oben angegebenen Apparatur wird ein weiteres Emulsionscopolymerisat hergestellt, in dem man als Zulauf I eine Emulsion verwendet, die durch Emulgieren von 364 Teilen n-Butylacrylat, 175 Teilen Vinylpropionat, 70 Teilen Vinylacetat und 91 Teilen Acrylsäure mit 140 Teilen einer 20 %igen Lösung des Natriumsalzes eines sulfatierten Umsetzungsproduktes aus Isooctylphenol mit 25 Mol Äthylenoxid in 267 Teilen Wasser emulgiert. Als Zulauf II diente eine Lösung von 3,5 Teilen Kaliumperoxodisulfat in 150 Teilen Wasser. Zusätzlich verwendete man Zulauf III, der aus einer Lösung von 0,7 Teilen Ascorbinsäure und 0,014 Teilen Eisenammoniumsulfat in 100 Teilen Wasser bestand.
- Im Polymerisationsgefäß wurden 266 Teile Wasser, 33 Teile des Zulaufs I, 15 Teile des Zulaufs II und 10 Teile des Zulaufs III bei Raumtemperatur gemischt, wobei man durch die Mischung einen Stickstoffstrom leitete. Der Kolbeninhalt wurde dann unter guter Durchmischung auf eine Temperatur von 60°C erhitzt. Nachdem die Mischung etwa 15 Minuten auf einer Temperatur von 60°C gehalten wurde, ließ man den Inhalt der 3 Zulaufgefäße innerhalb von einer Stunde und 45 Minuten zum Reaktionsgemisch zulaufen und hielt es nach Beendigung der Monomeren- und Initiatorzugabe noch 1 1/2 Stunden auf 60°C. Nach dem Abkühlen wurde die Reaktionsmischung filtriert. Man erhielt eine Polymerdispersion, die einen Feststoffgehalt von 43,7 % und einen pH-Wert von 2,1 hatte.
- In 1000 g Wasser, das 6 g Natriumpolyacrylat des K-Wertes von 19 und 2 g Natriumhydroxid gelöst enthielt, wurden 2000 g eines Streichclay (Clay SPS) unter Einwirkung hoher Scherkräfte eingetragen und 20 Minuten dispergiert. In diese Pigmentsuspension wurden dann unter Rühren 180 g der 50 %igen Dispersion des Emulsionspolymerisates I (= 4,5 Teile Polymerbinder als trocken gerechnet (atro), bezogen auf 100 Teile Pigment) eingetragen. Es handelt sich hierbei um das mit Alkali verdickbare Bindemittel. Anschließend wurde die Streichmasse mit 20 %iger wäßriger Natronlauge auf pH 9 und mit Wasser auf einen Feststoffgehalt von 53 % eingestellt. Sie hatte bei pH 9 eine Viskosität von 1100 mPas (100 Umdrehungen/Minute mit Brookfield--Viskosimeter) und ein Wasserretentionsvermögen von 32 sec. Die Wasserretention der Streichfarben wurde in Sekunden angegeben und ist als die Zeit zu verstehen, in der die mit einem sauren roten Farbstoff angefärbte wäßrige Phase der Streichfarbe soweit durch ein Blauband--Filter penetriert ist, daß sie deren Remission, gemessen mit einem Remissionsphotometer (Filter 4) auf 40 % des ursprünglichen Remissionsgrades erniedrigt.
- Die Streichfarbe wurde mit Hilfe einer Schaberstreichanlage bei einer Geschwindigkeit von 40 m/min auf ein holzhaltiges Streichrohpapier aufgetragen, das Strichgewicht betrug 11 g/m 2 und Seite. Das im Laborkalander satinierte Papier wies eine Strichfestigkeit von 73 cm/sec auf (nach IGT-Methode).
- Ein Druck, der mit Hilfe eines Halndl-Labortiefdruckgerätes aufgetragen wurde, hatte im Halbton auf einer Fläche von 30 cm2 weniger als 10 missing dots (Fehlstellen im Druck). Die missing dots wurden durch visuelles Auszäh- ' len der Fehlstellen bestimmt.
- Das Emulsionspolymerisat I wurde zusätzlich mit der erhöhten Menge von 440 g der ca. 50 %igen Dispersion (= 11 Teile Polymerbinder atro bezogen auf 100 Teile Pigment) bei 2000 g Streichclay (Euroclay K) als mit Alkali verdickbares Bindemittel eingesetzt. Die Streichfarbe wies bei einem Feststoffgehalt von 50 % eine Viskosität von 1160 mPas (100 UpM Brookfield) und ein Wasserretentionsvermögen von 64 sec auf. Der Strich hatte nach Trocknung und Satinage eine Trockenrupffestigkeit (nach IGT-Methode) von 157 cm/sec und eine Naßrupffestigkeit von 47 % (Densitometerwert des nach IGT-Methode gerupften feuchten Striches in Prozent vom Densitometerwert des Volltons) und zeigte damit eine hervorragende Festigkeit für den Offsetdruck.
- Eine entsprechend Beispiel la hergestellte Streichmasse, bei der jedoch als mit Alkali verdickbares alleiniges Bindemittel das Emulsionspolymerisat II (4,5 Teile atro bezogen auf 100 Teile Clay) verwendet wurde, hatte einen Feststoffgehalt von 56 % und bei pH 9 eine Viskosität von 1100 mPas (100 Umdrehungen/Minute Brookfield). Das Wasserretentionsvermögen betrug 17 sec. Die Streichfarbe wurde wie in Beispiel la auf das holzhaltige Streichrohpapier aufgetragen. Nach Trocknung und Satinage wurde gemäß IGT ein Wert von 51 cm/sec gemessen. Im Tiefdruckgerät bedruckt zeigten sich im Halbton weniger als 10 missing dots auf einer Fläche von 30 cm2.
- Eine entsprechend Beispiel 1b hergestellte Streichmasse mit dem Emulsionspolymerisat II hatte bei einem Feststoffgehalt von 56 % und einem pH-Wert von 8,6 eine Viskosität von 1080 mPas und ein Wasserretentionsvermögen von 45 sec. Das wie vorher gestrichene Papier besaß nach der Satinage eine Trockenrupffestigkeit von 126 cm/sec und eine Naßrupffestigkeit von 27 %. Die Festigkeitswerte lagen damit auf dem Niveau üblicher Offsetpapiere.
- Beispiel la wurde mit der Ausnahme wiederholt, daß man anstelle des darin beschriebenen Bindemittels dieselbe Menge (atro) des Emulsionscopolymerisates III in Form der 43,7 %igen wäßrigen Dispersion als alleiniges mit Alkali verdickbares Bindemittel einsetzte. Man erhielt eine Papierstreichmasse mit einem Feststoffgehalt von 56 %, deren Viskosität bei einem pH-Wert von 8,6 1800 mPas betrug, für das Wasserretentionsvermögen wurde ein Wert von 24 sec ermittelt. Die Streichfarbe wurde wie in Beispiel 1 auf das holzhaltige Streichrohpapier aufgetragen und getrocknet. Die Prüfung auf Rupffestigkeit nach IGT ergab bei dem satinierten Papier einen Wert von 44 cm/sec. Im Halbton des im Tiefdruck bedruckten Papieres wurden auf einer Fläche von 30 cm2 weniger als 10 missing dots ausgezählt.
- Das Emulsionspolymerisat III ergab, eingesetzt in der gleichen Weise und in der gleichen Menge wie in Beispiel 1b beschrieben, bei einem Feststoffgehalt der Streichfarbe von 50 % eine Viskosität von 1400 mPas und ein Wasserreten- tionsvermögen von 63 sec. Die Trockenrupffestigkeit nach IGT betrug 112 cm/sec, die Naßrupffestigkeit 23 %. Die Festigkeitswerte lagen damit auf dem Niveau üblicher Offsetpapiere.
- Die Herstellung der Papierstreichmasse erfolgte wie im Beispiel la angegeben, jedoch wurden als Bindemittel 6 Teile atro bezogen auf 100 Teile Pigment eines Bindemittelgemisches gemäß Beispiel 2 der DE-PS 12 64 945 verwendet. (Dieses Bindemittel bestand aus einer Mischung von 70 Teilen einer 50 %igen Dispersion eines Copolymerisates aus 55 Teilen Butylacrylat, 45 Teilen Vinylacetat und 2 Teilen Acrylsäure sowie 30 Teilen einer 30 %igen Dispersion eines Copolymerisates aus 112,5 Teilen Äthylacrylat, 30 Teilen Acrylsäure und 7,5 Teilen Acrylamid.) Die Streichfarbe hatte einen Feststoffgehalt von 51 %, eine Viskosität von 1060 mPas und ein Wasserretentionsvermögen von 43 sec. Das mit dieser Papierstreichmasse gemäß der im Beispiel 1 angegebenen Vorschrift gestrichene und satinierte Papier hatte eine Rupffestigkeit von 36 cm/sec und beim Tiefdruck im Halbton 15 bis 20 missing dots auf einer Fläche von 30 cm3.
- Eine weitere Streichfarbe mit der in den Beispielen la bis 3a angeführten Bindemittelmenge von nur 4,5 Teilen atro, bezogen auf 100 Teile Pigment, ergab einen Strich, der infolge ungenügender Abbindung zu Ablagerungen am Kalander führte.
- Das zum Vergleich herangezogene Bindemittelgemisch aus DE-PS 12 64 945/Beispiel 2 ergab in der in Beispiel lb beschriebenen Streichfarbe mit einer Bindemittelmenge von 11 Teilen atro, bezogen auf 100 Teile Pigment, nach der Naßrupffestigkeit von 12 %. Die Festigkeit des Striches lag damit unter dem Niveau vergleichbarer Offsetpapiere, die eine Trockenrupffestigkeit über 100 cm/sec und eine Naßrupffestigkeit über 20 % aufweisen.

1. Verwendung von Emulsionscopolymerisaten aus
in Form von wäßrigen Dispersionen als alleiniges Bindemittel und Verdickungsmittel für Papierstreichmassen.
a) 30 bis 80 Gew.-% C4- bis C8-Alkylacrylaten oder Mischungen aus C4- bis C8-Alkylacrylaten und C4- bis C8-Dialkylestern der Maleinsäure,
b) 8 bis 30 Gew.-% Acrylsäure und/oder Methacrylsäure,
c) 0 bis 50 Gew.-% Vinylpropionat, Vinylacetat, Methylacrylat, Äthylacrylat und/oder α-verzweigter C10-Monocarbonsäurevinylester,
d) 0 bis 5 Gew.-% Acrylamid, Methacrylamid, Vinylsulfonsäure, 2-Acrylamido-2-methylpro- pansulfonsäure und/oder Acrylnitril und
e) 0 bis 3 Gew.-% vernetzend wirkenden Monomeren
in Form von wäßrigen Dispersionen als alleiniges Bindemittel und Verdickungsmittel für Papierstreichmassen.
2. Verwendung gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Papierstreichmassen auf 100 Gewichtsteile eines feinteiligen Pigments 4 bis 6 Gewichtsteile des Emulsionscopolymerisates mit einer Glastemperatur unterhalb von 15°C enthalten und zum Streichen von Papieren eingesetzt werden, die im Tiefdruck bedruckt werden.
3. Verwendung gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Papierstreichmasse auf 100 Gewichtsteile eines feinverteilten Pigments 10 bis 20 Gewichtsteile des Emulsionscopolymerisates enthalten und zum Streichen von Papieren eingesetzt werden, die im Offsetdruck bedruckt werden.
