  • Disc brakes of rail vehicles generally act directly on the impeller, i.e. the impellers are designed as brake discs and are overlapped by the brake teeth. Such an arrangement not inconsiderably increases the weight of the impeller and thus the unsprung mass. If the brake device with the brake caliper, the brake cylinders and the like is suspended from the sprung part of the vehicle for the purpose of reducing the mass of the wheel set, then disadvantageous relative movements between the parts of the brake system occur during operation.
