Definitions

  • the invention relates to a printing method using a platen for a circulating, endless type tape of a line printer, which is guided around two rollers and a straight section running parallel to the print line rests on the platen, with a color sheet and a row between the section and the print hammer the paper to be printed is fed through.
  • a bar tape with printing types protruding from one plane is now preferably used as the type carrier.
  • This type tape is supported on the back during the printing process by a bar serving as a pressure abutment.
  • the closure of this bar due to the movement of the steel belt and the force applied by the pressure hammers is considerable.
  • the steel band creates track grooves on the print abutment, particularly for printers with higher printing performance and higher speed of the type band, which reduce the print quality.
  • the invention solves the problem of designing the pressure abutment in such a way that the unavoidable wear is distributed as evenly as possible over the entire enlarged surface in order to significantly increase the service life of the pressure abutment.
  • the advantages achieved by the invention are to be seen essentially in the fact that the technical complexity of an intermediate belt is avoided and, moreover, the surface of the pressure abutment is considerably larger while avoiding its expansion and rotation by using a roller.
  • the wear of the platen according to the invention is thereby kept within such limits that the service life of the platen exceeds the service life of the printer. A replacement of the pressure abutment is thus avoided with certainty by the invention.
  • the print quality of a line printer is improved by the invention, since the air layer located between the type tape and the pressure abutment can escape more quickly due to the roller-shaped design of the pressure abutment and the two wedge-shaped openings resulting therefrom between the type tape and the roller, as a result of which in a print line first struck type creates a character that is not weaker than the following characters of this print line. Due to the roller-shaped design of the pressure abutment, the type band can align itself transversely to its longitudinal extent when the print hammers stop, so that the upper part and lower part of the characters do not have different thicknesses.
  • roller-shaped pressure abutments are known in typewriters and dot matrix printers, these stop rollers serve a different purpose due to the lack of a rotating type belt.
  • the paper 1 to be printed runs through a slot which is formed by a row of printing hammers 2 and the ink sheet 9.
  • Each print hammer 2 is assigned a drive electromagnet 4, the armature 5 of which moves the print hammer 2 against the force of the spring 7 against the paper 1 to be printed, via a push rod 6.
  • the print hammers 2 face the back of the paper 1 to be printed.
  • the frame 8 In front of the front of the paper 1 to be printed is the frame 8 which receives the type tape 3 and the ink sheet 9.
  • the frame 8 can be pivoted about the bolt 10 in order to provide free access to the paper 1 to be printed.
  • the ink sheet 9, the width of which corresponds to the length of the printing line, is moved back and forth between two rollers 11 and 12, one of which serves as a supply roller and the other as a winding roller. Both ends of the two rollers are on driving disks 13 and 14 pushed on and positively connected to the same. Each drive plate 13 or 14 is connected to an electric motor (not shown). The electric motor assigned to the supply roller generates a braking torque in order to keep the ink sheet 9 taut.
  • the ink sheet 9 drawn off the roller 11 in FIG. 1 is guided over the arcuate guide 15 and is guided at a short distance from the type belt 3 into the channel 16, from where it reaches the roller 12 via the deflection plate 17.
  • FIG. 2 the area A of FIG. 1 is shown greatly enlarged in order to clarify the guidance of the ink sheet 9 and its position in relation to the type tape 3.
  • the tongue 18, which prevents the ink sheet 9 from touching the paper 1 to be printed, is arranged above the type band 3 between the paper 1 to be printed and the arcuate guide 15.
  • the ink sheet 9 passing between the tongue 18 and the arcuate guide 15 is guided over the end of the arcuate guide 15 designed as a guide surface 19, which together with the guide surface 20 arranged underneath the type tape 3 a distance between the ink sheet 9 and the types 21 or Clock marks 22 of type tape 3 are generated.
  • the arcuate guide 15 is arranged concentrically with the roller 23 acting as a pressure abutment.
  • the diameter of the roller 23 is dimensioned such that the curvature of the cylinder jacket is in a ratio to the height of the printed character, which does not allow the arch height of the support surface under the struck character to become so great that the upper and lower part of the types are only slightly imprinted .
  • the sheet height is 51 .mu.m, so that there is no harmful impairment of the print quality.
  • the gap 24 is particularly important for the electric motor-free drive of the roller 23 described below, in order to keep the frictional moments counteracting the drive as low as possible.
  • the type belt 3 is guided over the rollers 25, one of which is driven.
  • the type tape 3 is made of steel and has the types 21 and timing marks 22 which protrude from the surface of the type tape by etching or embossing. In the case of printers with high printing performance, the circulation speed of the type tape 3 is considerable.
  • the type tape 3 touches the roller 23 on its side facing the paper 1 to be printed over its entire length and the other straight section of the type tape 3 extends through the gap of the U-shaped protective strip 26.
  • the roller 23 is set in a very slow rotation by the geared motor 27 (approx. One revolution per 72 hours).
  • the roller 23 is connected to the gear 28, which is connected via the idler gear 29 to the output pinion 30 of the geared motor 27.
  • the roller 23 can also be driven without the aid of the geared motor 27.
  • the longitudinal axis of the roller 23 is slightly inclined relative to the edge of the type tape 3.
  • the angle of inclination a is 2 to 6 minutes of angle.
  • the rotational speed of the roller 23 can be changed by changing the angle of inclination.
  • the inclination must not be so great that the line of contact between the type belt and the roller no longer falls into the type field for the types of the edge area of the printing line.
