Definitions
- the invention relates to a torch for micro plasma welding, with a hollow cylindrical torch housing, an electrode holder mounted insulated in the torch housing, a plasma nozzle with a cooling chamber, a protective gas nozzle arranged concentrically around the plasma nozzle, and burner connections and lines for plasma gas, protective gas and welding current, as well as pipelines and channels for the supply and discharge of a coolant to the plasma nozzle.
- a micro plasma torch of this type has become known from DE-PS 18 06 858.
- the pin-shaped electrode is relatively thin.
- the pin diameter of the electrode is usually 1 mm.
- the tip of the electrode protrudes into a funnel-shaped widening of the plasma channel of the plasma nozzle.
- the funnel-shaped expansion is provided here for gas dynamic reasons.
- micro plasma torches of this type are not suitable for use in series production, since on the one hand they cannot achieve stable focusing of the arc plasma and on the other hand they are subject to very high wear.
- the unstable focusing of the plasma is caused by the flickering of the pilot arc, since there is no defined focal spot.
- the high wear is in turn due to the high electrode temperature.
- the invention has for its object to provide a micro plasma torch of the smallest dimensions for the range of 0.1 - 20 ... 50 A, which also withstands the high continuous load in series production, delivers a constant energy output with stable focusing of the plasma and that Plasma ignites exactly.
- This object is achieved in a torch for micro plasma welding of the type described in the introduction in that the plasma channel of the plasma nozzle has a raised ring edge directed towards the tip of the electrode at the point of entry of the plasma, and in that the electrode is dimensioned correspondingly strongly to enable increased heat dissipation and with is provided with its own cooling.
- Electrode is immediately water-cooled and, due to the multiple cross-section of the rod electrode, optimum heat dissipation and thus cooling of the electrode is achieved. This considerably reduces the erosion of the electrode tip. This increases the load capacity and service life of the plasma nozzle and electrode many times over.
- the burner preferably has a two-circuit cooling system, one cooling circuit being assigned to the ring nozzle and the other cooling circuit to the electrode.
- the division of the cooling system into two separate cooling circuits prevents unwanted electrical currents in the cooling water and thus the electrolytic destruction of the burner.
- the burner can also be operated with a relatively high pilot current of around 10A instead of the usual 2A.
- the relatively high pilot current results in a much better thermal ionization for the plasma, which prevents misfires.
- the burner has a diffusion-tight plasma gas feed line.
- the plasma gas is preferably fed to the burner through a diffusion-tight corrugated metal tube. It has been shown that the previously used plastic or rubber hose does not fully meet this requirement.
- the diffusion of oxygen from the atmosphere into the plasma gas (argon) due to the partial pressure differences has previously greatly accelerated the oxidation and erosion of the electrode (tungsten). The consequences were an early inability to ignite the electrode and, most of the time, the focus disturbance of the plasma beam.
- FIG. 1 designates a hollow cylindrical burner housing, into which an insulating sleeve 2 provided with an external thread is screwed. With the help of screws 3, an annular burner part 4 is fastened and sealed with the help of an O-ring 5. With the aid of a protective gas nozzle 6 designed as a union nut, an annular plasma nozzle 7 is pressed against the burner part 4 and sealed against the nozzle chamber 9 with the aid of an O-ring 8.
- the plasma channel 10 of the plasma nozzle 7 has, at the entry point of the plasma, an elevated ring edge 13 directed towards the tip 11 of an electrode 12, which preferably has the shape of a truncated cone.
- the tip 11 of the electrode 12 is closer to the ring edge 13 than the vicinity of the nozzle chamber 9, so that there is a defined focal spot which reliably prevents the pilot arc from flickering.
- the electrode 12 is held in a bore in a receptacle 14 of an electrode holder by means of a conical metal ring 15 and a threaded bush 16 screwed into the receptacle 14.
- the metal ring 15 and the corresponding conical bore in the receptacle 14 or the bore for the electrode 12 are so narrow tolerated that the metal ring 15 can lie sealingly against these surfaces under elastic deformation. This is important because the upper end of the electrode 12 is provided with cooling and the coolant must not penetrate into the nozzle chamber 9.
- a coolant channel has been created by incorporating an annular groove 17 in the receptacle 14, which has horizontal bores 18 in the receptacle 14 and in the insulating sleeve 2 as well as connections 19 and 20 in the axial direction for supplying and removing coolant in Connection is as shown in Figure 2.
- a burner head 21 is provided with a threaded connector 22, which is screwed into a corresponding bore in the receptacle 14 and is sealed by O-rings 23 and 24 on the one hand against the receptacle 14 and on the other hand against the insulating bush 2.
- the burner head 21 has bores 25 for supplying the plasma gas via channels 26 of the receptacle 14 to the nozzle chamber 9.
- the supply of the plasma gas takes place via a fixed tube 27 which is screwed into the burner head 21 and which is connected via a connecting piece 28 to a diffusion-tight plasma gas feed line 29 stands.
- a diffusion-tight corrugated metal tube is preferably used.
- the protective gas nozzle 6 is supplied with the protective gas via a protective gas channel 30, which is connected on the one hand to the outside of the plasma nozzle 7 via bores 31 and on the other hand to a protective gas connection 33 via a bore 32.
- the plasma nozzle 7 also has cooling.
- a cooling chamber 34 is located near the plasma channel 10 Provided, which is connected to the coolant inlet and outlet via bores 35 in the plasma nozzle 7 and via corresponding bores in the annular burner part 4 and in the insulating bushing 2, provided with connecting pieces 36a and in the drawing coolant hoses (not shown).
- the coolant circuit for the nozzle 7 is also sealed against the nozzle chamber 9 on the one hand and against the outside on the other by an O-ring 37.
- an electrode 39 for the anodic connection of the plasma nozzle 7 to the pilot current source is provided in a bore in the insulating bush 2 and the annular burner part 4.
- the supply takes place via an elastic bracket 40 which is connected at one end to the electrode 39 and at the other end via a connecting piece 41 to the positive pole of the pilot current source.
- the negative pole of the pilot current source is connected to the electrode 12 in a manner known per se.
- An elastic protective tube 43 is attached to the burner housing 1 with the aid of a union nut 42.

Abstract
