Description
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Verbindungen, insbesondere Addukten von Epoxiden mit Dihydroxyverbindungen.
- Die Additionsreaktion zwischen einem Epoxid und einem Alkohol in Anwesenheit eines Katalysators zur Bildung eines Hydroxy- und/oder eines Epoxy-funktionellen Addukts ist gut bekannt.
- Beispielsweise wird in der US-PS 4 543 430 ein Verfahren beschrieben zur Herstellung von Additionsprodukten von Epoxiden und hydroxylierten Verbindungen, wobei das Epoxid ein Alkylenoxid oder Epichlorhydrin ist und die hydroxylierte Verbindung ein Alkohol, ein Alkylenglykol-monoalkylether, ein Phenol oder Wasser ist. Das Verhältnis der hydroxylierten Verbindung zu dem Epoxid liegt im Bereich von 2 bis 20 Gew.%. Die Umsetzung wird in einer homogenen, flüssigen Phase bei einer Temperatur zwischen 40 und 250ºC in Gegenwart eines Katalysators durchgeführt. Der Katalysator ist a) ein Tetraalkylammoniumtriflat-(trifluormethansulfonat) oder b) ein Triflinsäure (Trifluormethansulfonsäure)-Salz eines Metalls, ausgewählt unter einem Alkalimetall, einem Metall der Gruppe II des Periodensystems, Aluminium, Kobalt, Nickel, Zirkonium und Zinn. Die verwendete Katalysatormenge ist derart, daß die Katalysatorkonzentration in der Reaktionsmischung im Bereich von 1 bis 100 ppm, bezogen auf Gewicht, liegt. In Spalte 1, Zeilen 15 bis 17, der US-PS 4 543 430 wird festgestellt, daß das bevorzugt nachgesuchte Produkt im allgemeinen ein Additionsprodukt ist, welches eine einzige, sich von dem Epoxid ableitende Einheit pro Molekül aufweist. Solche Produkte besäßen ein niedriges Molekulargewicht.
- In EP 139042 wird die Umsetzung von poly(aktiver Wasserstoff)organischen Verbindungen mit einem Polyepoxid, welches zwei oder mehrere Epoxygruppen aufweist, offenbart, um eine im wesentlichen vollständige Reaktion der Epoxygruppen des Polyepoxids zu bewirken und ein Addukt mit einer geringen Viskosität zu ergeben. Die Reaktion wird in Anwesenheit eines Sulfonsäurekatalysators, wie Triflat, insbesondere eines gegebenenfalls substituierten Arnmoniumtriflats, durchgeführt. In der EP 139042 findet sich keine Anregung, daß die so erhaltenen Produkte nach Deaktivierung des Sulfonsäurekatalysators mit einem aromatischen Diol oder Phenol verbessert werden könnten.
- Es ist auch bekannt, daß zur Umwandlung von Epoxymaterialien mit niedrigem Molekulargewicht und hohem Epoxidgehalt in ein Material mit einem höheren Molekulargewicht und reduziertem Epoxidgehalt solche Materialien mit niedrigem Molekulargewicht durch Umsetzung mit mehrwertigen Verbindungen in Anwesenheit eines Katalysators weiterentwickelt werden können. Katalysatoren, die gewöhnlich bei derartigen Weiterentwicklungsreaktionen verwendet wurden, sind Tetramethylammoniumsalze anorganischer Säuren, insbesondere Tetramethylammoniumchlorid.
- Diese bekannten Weiterentwicklungskatalysatoren besitzen den Nachteil, daß sie in relativ großen Mengen, typischerweise 0,4 Gew.%, bezogen auf die Epoxyreaktante, eingesetzt werden müssen und die Weiterentwicklungsreaktionsgeschwindigkeit relativ gering ist, was zu Reaktionszeiten von 24 Stunden oder mehr führt.
- Überraschenderweise wurde nun gefunden, daß unter Verwendung bestimmter Triflatsalze als Katalysatoren bei der Weiterentwicklungsreaktion von Diepoxiden mit Alkoholen sehr geringe Mengen des Triflat-Katalysators innerhalb sehr kurzer Reaktionszeiten Materialien mit erhöhten Molekulargewichten ergeben, bei denen es sich um Epoxy-endständige Produkte handelt und die mit einer aromatischen Hydroxyverbindung nach Deaktivierung des Triflat-Katalysators weiterentwickelt werden können.
- Demzufolge betrifft die vorliegende Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Materialien mit erhöhtem Molekulargewicht in bezug auf das Epoxid-Ausgangsmaterial, wobei die Materialien entweder ein Hydroxy-endständiges oder Epoxyendständiges Material sind, wobei dieses Verfahren umfaßt:
- a) die Umsetzung eines Diepoxids mit einer Dihydroxyverbindung der Formel I
- Q(OH)&sub2; I
- worin Q ein zweiwertiger aliphatischer, cycloaliphatischer oder araliphatischer Rest ist, in Anwesenheit, als Katalysator, eines Triflatsalzes eines Metalls der Gruppe IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB oder VIIIA des Periodensystems (entsprechend der IUPAC 1970-Konvention), um ein Epoxy-endständiges Material zu ergeben;
- b) die Deaktivierung des Triflatsalz-Katalysators; und
- c) gegebenenfalls die Umsetzung des in Stufe b) gebildeten Materials mit einem aromatischen Diol, um ein Hydroxyendständiges oder Epoxy-endständiges Material zu ergeben.
- Vorzugsweise ist der Gruppe IIA-Metalltriflat-Katalysator Magnesiumtriflat; der Gruppe IIB-Metalltriflat-Katalysator ist vorzugsweise Zink- oder Cadmiumtriflat; der Gruppe IIIA- Metalltriflat-Katalysator ist vorzugsweise Lanthantriflat; der Gruppe IIIB-Metalltriflat-Katalysator ist vorzugsweise Aluminiumtriflat; und der Gruppe VIIIA-Metalltriflat-Katalysator ist vorzugsweise Kobalttriflat.
- Die Menge des bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwendeten Metalltriflat-Katalysators liegt bevorzugt im Bereich von 10 bis 1000 ppm, insbesondere von 20 bis 200 ppm, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der Reaktionsmischung.
- Es ist im allgemeinen zweckmäßig, den Metalltriflat-Katalysator in Form einer Lösung in einem organischen Lösungsmittel zu verwenden. Beispiele geeigneter Lösungsmittel umfassen aromatische Kohlenwasserstoff-Lösungsmittel; cycloaliphatische, polare Lösungsmittel, wie cycloaliphatische Ketone, z.B. Gydohexanon; polare, aliphatische Lösungsmittel, wie Alkoxyalkanole, insbesondere 2-Methoxyethanol; sowie das Diol- Ausgangsmaterial.
- Der bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwendete Dihydroxyverbindungsreaktant kann ein primäres, sekundäres oder tertiäres Diol sein.
- Ist Q in Formel I ein aliphatischer Rest, kann er ein geradkettiger oder verzweigter C&sub2;&submin;&sub1;&sub2;-Alkylenrest sein. Cycloaliphatische Reste Q sind bevorzugt C&sub5;&submin;&sub8;-Cycloalkylenreste, worin der Cycloalkylenring substituiert sein kann durch Substituenten, wie C&sub1;&submin;&sub4;-Alkylgruppen, oder verschiedene Cycloalkylenreste können über ein Brückenglied, z.B. eine Methylenbrücke, miteinander verbunden sein. Araliphatische Reste sind bevorzugt gegebenenfalls ringsubstituierte Benzylreste oder Naphthylmethylenreste. Ein jeder der Reste Q kann substituiert oder unterbrochen sein, vorausgesetzt, daß die Substituentengruppen oder unterbrechenden Atome den Metalltriflat-Katalysator nicht deaktivieren oder Konkurrenzreaktionen mit dem flüssigen Epoxid eingehen. Beispiele für geeignete Substituentengruppen sind Estergruppen, wie in Polycaprolactonen enthalten, und ungesättigte Gruppen,wie in Hydroxyl-endständigen Po lybutadienen oder Po lybutadien-Copolymeren enthalten.
- Spezielle Beispiele für bevorzugte aliphatische Dihydroxyverbindungsreaktanten der Formel I umfassen Ethylenglykol, Diethylenglyko 1, Triethylenglyko 1 und höhere Polyoxyethylenglykole; Propan-1,2-diol; Propan-1,3-diol und höhere Polyoxypropylenglykole; Butan-1,4-diol und höhere Polyoxytetramethylenglykole; Neopentylglykol; Pentan-1,5-diol; Hexan- 1,6-diol; Octan-1,8-diol; und Poly-(caprolacton).
- Spezielle Beispiele für bevorzugte cycloaliphatische Diole sind z.B. Chinitol, Resorcitol, Bis-(4-hydroxycyclohexyl)- methan, 2,2-Bis-(4-hydroxycyclohexyl)-propan, Cyclohexandimethanol-1,1-bis-(hydroxymethyl)-cyclohex-3-en und 4,9- Bis-(hydroxymethyl)-tricyclo[5,2,1,0².&sup6;]decan.
- Araliphatische Diolreaktanten, die erwähnt werden können, sind 1,4-Benzoldimethanol und 4,4'-Bis-(hydroxymethyl)-biphenyl.
- Geeignete Diepoxide, die als Reaktanten bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwendet werden können, umfassen die zumindest zwei endständige Gruppen der Formel
- welche direkt an ein Sauerstoff-, Stickstoff- oder Schwefelatom oder -atome gebunden sind, enthaltenden.
- Als Beispiele für solche Harze können Diglycidylester erwähnt werden, welche erhältlich sind durch Umsetzung einer Verbindung, die zwei Carbonsäuregruppen je Molekül enthält, mit Epichlorhydrin oder Glyceroldichlorhydrin in Anwesenheit eines Alkali. Solche Diglycidylester können sich ableiten von aliphatischen Dicarbonsäuren, z.B. Bernsteinsäure, Glutarsäure, Adipinsäure, Pimelinsäure, Suberinsäure, Azelainsäure, Sebacinsäure und dimerisierter Linolsäure; von cycloaliphatischen Dicarbonsäuren, wie Tetrahydrophthalsäure, 4-Methyltetrahydrophthalsäure, Hexahydrophthalsäure und 4- Methylhexahydrophthalsäure; und von aromatischen Dicarbonsäuren, wie Phthalsäure, Isophthalsäure und Terephthalsäure.
- Weitere Beispiele sind Diglycidylether, erhältlich durch Umsetzung einer Verbindung, die zumindest zwei freie alkoholische Hydroxyl- und/oder phenolische Hydroxylgruppen je Molekül enthält, mit Epichlorhydrin oder Glyceroldichlorhydrin unter alkalischen Bedingungen oder, alternativ, in Anwesenheit eines sauren Katalysators und anschließende Behandlung mit Alkali. Diese Ether können hergestellt sein aus acyclischen Alkoholen, wie Ethylenglykol, Diethylenglykol und höheren Poly-(oxyethylen)-glykolen, Propan-1,2-diol und Poly- (oxypropylen)-glykolen, Propan-1,3-diol, Butan-1,4-diol, Poly-(oxytetramethylen)-glykolen, Pentan-1,5-diol, Hexan- 2,4,6-trio 1, Glycerol, 1,1,1-Trimethylolpropan, Pentaerythrit und Sorbit; aus cycloaliphatischen Alkoholen, wie Resorcitol, Chinitol, Bis-(4-hydroxycyclohexyl)-methan, 2,2-Bis-(4-hydroxycyclohexyl)-propan, 1,1-Bis-(hydroxymethyl)-cyclohex-3-en und 4,9-Bis-(hydroxymethyl)-tricyclo- [5,2,1,0².&sup6;]decan; und aus Alkoholen mit aromatischen Kernen, wie N,N-Bis-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-anilin und p,p'-Bis-(2- hydroxy-ethylamino)-diphenylmethan. Oder sie können hergestellt sein aus einkernigen Phenolen, wie Resorcin und Hydrochinon, und aus mehrkernigen Phenolen, wie Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-methan, 4,4'-Dihydroxydiphenyl, Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-sulfon, 1,1,2,2-Tetrakis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-methan, 2,2- Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propan, 2,2-Bis-(3,5-dibrom-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propan (auch bekannt als Tetrabrombisphenol A), und Novolaken, gebildet aus Aldehyden, wie Formaldehyd, Acetaldehyd, Chloral und Furfuraldehyd, mit Phenolen, wie Phenol selbst und Phenol, substituiert am Ring durch Chloratome oder durch Alkylgruppen, jeweils mit bis zu 9 Kohlenstoffatomen, wie 4-Chlorphenol, 2-Methylphenol und 4-tert.-Butylphenol.
- Di-(N-glycidyl)-Verbindungen umfassen z.B. diejenigen, welche erhalten werden durch Chlorwasserstoffabspaltung von den Reaktionsprodukten von Epichlorhydrin mit Ammen, welche zumindest zwei Amino-Wasserstoffatome enthalten, wie Anilin, n-Butalamin, Bis-(4-aminophenyl)-methan und Bis-(4-methylaminophenyl)-methan; und N,N'-Diglycidylderivate von cyclischen Alkylenhamstoffen, wie Ethylenharnstoff und 1,3-Propylenharnstoff, und Hydantome, wie 5,5-Dimethylhydantoin.
- Beispiele für Di-(S-glycidyl)-Verbindungen sind Di-S-glycidylderivate von Dithiolen, wie Ethan-1,2-dithiol und Bis- (4-mercaptomethylphenyl)-ether.
- Diepoxide mit 1,2-Epoxidgruppen, welche an verschiedene Arten von Heteroatomen gebunden sind, können verwendet werden, z.B. N-Glycidyl-N-(2-glycidyloxypropyl)-5,5-dimethylhydantoin und 2-Glycidyloxy-1,3-bis-(5,5-dimethyl-1-glycidylhydantoin-3-yl)-propan.
- Diepoxide, welche nicht-endständige Epoxidgruppen enthalten, können ebenfalls verwendet werden, wie Vinylcyclohexendioxid, Limonendioxid, Dicyclopentadienoxid, 4-Oxatetracyclo (6,2,1, 02.7,03.5)undec-9-yl-glycidylether, Ethylenglykol-bis-(4- oxatetracyclo(6,2,1,02.7,03.5)undec-9-yl)-ether, 3,4-Epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3,4-epoxycyclohexancarboxylat und dessen 6,6¹-Dimethylderivat, Ethylenglykol-bis-(3,4-epoxycyclohexancarboxylat) oder 3-(3 ,4-Epoxycyclohexyl)-8,9-epoxy-2,4-dioxospiro(5,5)undecan.
- Gewünschtenfalls kann auch eine Mischung von Diepoxiden verwendet werden. Bevorzugte Diepoxide sind Diglycidylether und Diglycidylester. Speziell bevorzugte Diepoxide sind Diglycidylether von 2,2-Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propan, von Bis-(4- hydroxyphenyl)-methan oder von Novolak, gebildet aus Formaldehyd und einem Phenol, das gegebenenfalls am Ring durch eine C&sub1;&submin;&sub9;-Alkylgruppe oder eine Phenyl-, Phenethyl- oder Methylphenethylgruppe substituiert ist, mit einem 1,2-Epoxdigehalt von mehr als 1,0 Äquivalenten je Kilogramm.
- Während des Verlaufs der Weiterentwicklungsreaktion von Stufe a) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens wird sekundärer Alkohol gebildet. Gegen Ende der Weiterentwicklungsreaktion von Stufe a) überwiegen die so gebildeten sekundären Alkoholgruppen,und sie können eine erhebliche Rolle bei der Reaktion spielen.
- Ein vorteilhafter Aspekt des vorliegenden Verfahrens besteht darin, daß der in Stufe a) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens verwendete Triflatsalz-Katalysator deaktiviert werden kann, wodurch die Weiterentwicklungsreaktion zu jedem beliebigen Zeitpunkt in der Weiterentwicklungsreaktion abgebrochen wird.
- Die Triflatsalz-Katalysator-Deaktivierung kann erfolgen, z.B. durch Zusatz eines Alkalimetallhydroxids, z.B. Natriumhydroxid, wobei das Triflatmetallsalz, welches in Stufe a) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens verwendet wird und aktiv ist, in ein Alkalimetalltriflat übergeführt wird, welches als Katalysator in Stufe a) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens inaktiv ist. Alternativ kann der Metalltriflatsalz-Katalysator, welcher in Stufe a) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens verwendet wird, deaktiviert werden, indem man ein Metallkomplexierungsmittel, z.B. 8-Hydroxychinolin, zusetzt.
- Auf diese Weise kann die Weiterentwicklungsreaktion der Stufe a) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens abgebrochen werden, wenn das weiterentwickelte Produkt ein Epoxywert-Soll erreicht hat,und ein Abfallen des Epoxidgehaltes kann während der "Halte"- oder "Auslauf"-Perioden der Epoxyharzherstellung verhindert werden.
- Nach Durchführung von Stufe b) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens umfaßt eine weitere Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung die Weiterentwicklung in Stufe c) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens des in Stufe b) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens erhaltenen Produkts durch Umsetzung mit einem aromatischen Diol.
- Der aromatische Diolreaktant in Stufe c) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens kann ein einkerniges aromatisches Diol, z.B. Resorcin oder Hydrochinon,oder, bevorzugt,ein zweikerniges aromatisches Diol, z.B. Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-methan (Bisphenol F), Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-sulfon, 2,2-Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)- propan (Bisphenol A) oder 2,2-Bis-(3,5-dibrom-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propan, sein.
- In Stufe a) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens liegt das Molverhältnis von Diepoxid zu Dihydroxyverbindung gewöhnlich im Bereich von 1,02:1 bis 50:1, insbesondere von 1,1:1 bis 20:1.
- Das Molverhältnis des Produkts der Stufe b) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens zu dem aromatischen Diolreaktanten liegt gewöhnlich im Bereich von 0,5:1 bis 50:1, insbesondere von 0,9:1 bis 20:1. Die bevorzugte Methode für die Durchführung der fakultativen Stufe c) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens besteht in einem Erhitzen der Reaktanten bei einer Temperatur im Bereich von 100 bis 200ºC, gegebenenfalls in Gegenwart eines inerten Lösungsmittels und in Gegenwart eines Katalysators, wie Ethyltriphenylphosphoniumjodid, ein quaternäres Ammoniumsalz oder jeder andere übliche Katalysator für die Weiterentwicklungsreaktion, wie er dem Fachmann bekannt ist.
- Die Produkte des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens besitzen einen Bereich verschiedener physikalischer Eigenschaften und sind geeignet für einen Bereich unterschiedlicher Endverwendungen in Abhängigkeit beispielsweise davon, ob 1) sie durch eine Kombination der Stufen a) und b); oder durch eine Kombination der Stufen a), b) und c) gebildet worden sind; und 2) von dem Härtungssystern, das zur Härtung des Produkts des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens verwendet wird.
- Ein Produkt des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens kann mit einem Härtungsmittel hierfür gemischt werden, um eine härtbare Zusammensetzung zu ergeb. Die Erfindung umfaßt weiterhin neue härtbare Zusammensetzungen, umfassend 1) ein Hydroxyendständiges Produkt, gebildet durch das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren, in welchem die Stufen a), b) und c) durchgeführt werden; und 2) ein Härtnngsmittel für das Produkt 1). Das Härtungsmittel, die Komponente 2), kann z.B. Dicyandiamid, Carbonsäurehydrazide, Succinimid, Cyanoacetamid, 1-Cyano- 3-(C&sub1;&submin;&sub3;-alkyl)-guanidine, Imidazole oder Salzevon Carbonsäuren mit tertiären Ammen sein. Das Wärtungsmittel, die Komponente 2), kann eines aus einer Vielzahl bekannter Epoxy-Härtungsmittel sein. Beispiele für geeignete Härtungsmittel sind Carbonsäuren oder Anhydride, wie Phthalsäureanhydrid, Tetrahydrophthalsäureanhydrid, Methyltetrahydrophthalsäureanhydrid, 5-Methylbicyclo[2,2,1]hept-5-en-2,3- dicarbonsäureanhydrid, Pyromellitsäuredianhydrid, Trimellitsäureanhydrid, Maleinsäureanhydrid und Dodecenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid und Mischungen hiervon; dimere oder trimere Säuren, abgeleitet von ungesättigten Fettsäuren; Friedel- Crafts-Metailhab genide, wie Aluminiumchlorid, Zinkchlorid, Bortrifluorid oder Bortrichlond sowie Komplexe hiervon mit Ethern, Säureanhydriden, Ketonen und Aminen; Salze, wie Zinkfluoroborat, Magnesiumperchlorat und Zinkfluorosilicat; aliphatische, aromatische, araliphatische und heterocyclische Aminoverbindungen, wie z.B. Diethylentriamin, Tri-ethylentetramin, Dicyandiamid, Melamin, Pyridin, Benzyldimethylamin, N,N-Diethyl-1,3-propandiamin, 4,9-Dioxa-1,12-dodecandiamin, Dibutylamin, Dioctylamin, Methylethylamin, Pyrrolidin, 2,6-Diaminopyridin, 4,4¹-Diaminodiphenylmethan und ringsubstituierte Derivate hiervon, 3,3- und 4,4¹-Diaminodiphenylsulfon, 1,2-, 1,3- und 1,4-Phenylendiamine, 2,4-Diaminotoluol und ringalkylierte Derivate hiervon, Diaminostilben, 2,4,6-Tris-(dimethylaminomethyl)-phenol und lösliche Addukte von Aminen und Polyepoxiden und ihre Salze.
- Das Härtungsmittel, die Komponente 2), kann auch ein aktive Amino- und/oder Carboxylgruppen enthaltendes Polyamid sein, insbesondere eines, das eine Vielzahl von Amino-Wasserstoffatomen aufweist und hergestellt wurde durch Umsetzung einer mehrbasischen Säure mit einem Polyamin.
- Das Härtungsmittel, die Komponente 2), kann weiterhin ein Carbonsäurehydrazid, z.B. Stearinsäuredihydrazid, Oxalsäuredihydrazid, Adipinsäuredihydrazid, Sebacinsäuredihydrazid oder Isophthalsäuredihydrazid, sein; es kann auch ein 1- Cyano-3-alkylguanidin, wie 1-Cyano-3-methylguanidin oder das 3,3-Dimethyl- oder 3,3-Diethylderivat sein; ein Imidazol, wie 2-Phenylimidazol, N-Methylimidazol oder 2-Ethyl- 4-methylimidazol; ein Salz einer Hydroxycarbonsäure, wie Milchsäure oder Salicylsäure, mit einem tertiären Amin, wie einer Mannich-Base, z.B. 2,4,6-Tris-(dimethylaminomethyl)- phenol; Cyanoacetamid; oder Succinimid.
- Ist die Komponente 1) ein Material mit hohem Molekulargewicht, welches ein hohes Verhältnis von Hydroxylgruppen zu Epoxidgruppen des Härtungsmittels aufweist, kann Komponente 2) auch ein Aminoplast, ein Phenol-Formaldehyd-Harz oder ein blockiertes Polyisocyanat sein, wobei der Aminoplast oder das Phenol-Formaldehyd-Harz zumindest 2 Gruppen der Formel
- - CH&sub2;OR
- aufweist, die direkt an ein Amid-Stickstoffatome oder -atome gebunden sind oder direkt gebunden sind an Kohlenstoffatome eines Phenolrings, wobei R ein Wasserstoffatom oder eine Alkylgruppe mit 1 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen bedeutet. Verwendbare methylolierte Verbindungen umfassen Harnstoff-Formaldehyd-Kondensate, Aminotriazin-Fo rmaldehyd-Kondensate, insbesondere Melamin-Formaldehyd- und Benzognanamin-Formaldehyd-Kondensate und Phenol-Formaldehyd-Kondensate. Diese können gewünschtenfalls verethert sein, z.B. können n-Butylether eingesetzt werden. Beispiele für geeignete blockierte Polyisocyanate umfassen Di- und Polyisocyanate, blockiert mit Caprolactam, ein Oxim (z.B. Cyclohexanonoxim), ein einwertiges Phenol (z.B. Phenol selbst, p-Cresol, p-tert.-Butylphenol) oder einen einwertigen aliphatischen, cycloaliphatischen oder araliphatischen Alkohol (z.B. Methanol, n-Butanol, Decanol, 1-Phenylethanol, 2-Ethoxyethanol und 2-n-Butoxyethanol). Geeignete Isocyanate umfassen aromatische Diixocyanate, wie 1,3-Phenylen-, 1,4-Naphthylen-, 2,4- und 2,6-Tolylen-und 4,4-Methylen-bis-(phenylen)-diisocyanat und auch deren Präpolymere mit Glykolen (z.B. Ethylen- und Propylenglykol), Glycerin, Trimethylolpropan, Pentaerythrit, Diethylenglykol und Addukte von Alkylenoxiden mit diesen aliphatischen Disäurepolyalkoholen.
- Die Menge der Härtungsmittel-Komponente kann über einen erheblichen Bereich in Abhängigkeit von dem verwendeten Härtungsmittel entsprechend den Kenntnissen des Fachmans variiert werden. So können beispeisweise die Amin-Härtungsmittel in geeigneter Weise im Bereich von 1 bis 50 Gew.Teilen je 100 Gew.Teile Komponente 1) verwendet werden, werden jedoch Komplexe von Friedel-Crafts-Metallhalogeniden eingesetzt, reichen Mengen im Bereich von 0,5 bis 10 Gew.Teilen je 100 Gew.Teile Komponente 1) aus. Werden Anhydrid-Härtungsmittel eingesetzt, kann es erwünscht sein, eine geringe Menge (0,1 bis 5 Gew.Teile je 100 Gewqteile der Komponente 1)) eines Beschleunigers zuzufügen, wie eines tertiären Amins, von Stannooctoat, Sulfid oder Phosphin, um die Härtung zu beschleunigen.
- Die härtbaren Zusammensetzungen können auch geeignete Weichmacher, wie Dibutylphthalat und Dioctylphthalat, inerte Verdünnungsmittel, wie Teer und Bitumen, und sogenannte reaktive Verdünnungsmittel, insbesondere Monoepoxide, wie n-Butylglycidylether, Isooctylglycidylether, Phenylglycidylether, Cresylglycidylether, Glycidylester von gemischten tertiären, aliphatischen Monocarbonsäuren, Glycidylacrylat und Glycidylmethacrylat, enthalten. Sie können auch Additive, wie Füllstoffe, Verstärkungsmaterialien, polymere Verfestigungsmittel, wie Polyethersulfone, Phenoxyharze und Butadien- Acrylnitril-Kautschuke, farbgebende Mittel, Fließkontrollmittel, Flammhemmer und Formgleitmittel, enthalten. Geeignete Streckmittel, Füllstoffe und Verstärkungsmaterialien sind z.B. Glasfasern, Kohlenstoffasern, Fasern aus aromatischen Polyamiden, Ballotini, Glimmer, Quarzmehl, Calciumcarbonat, Cellulose, Kaolin, Wollastonit, kolbidales Siliciumdioxid mit einer hohen spezifischen Oberfläche, pulverförmiges Poly-(vinylchlorid) und pulverförmige Polyolefinkohlenwasserstoffe, wie Polyethylen und Polypropylen.
- Die erfindungsgemäßen, härtbaren Zusammensetzungen können als Adhäsiva, Primer für Adhäsiva, laminatbildende Harze, Imprägniermittel und Gußharze, Formmassen, Kitt und Versiegelungsverbindungen, Potting- und Isolationsverbindungen für die Elektroindustrie, insbesondere aber als Überzüge, eingesetzt werden.
- Die erfindungsgemäßen Zusammensetzungen können gehärtet werden, indem man sie bei einer geeigneten Temperatur, nämlich 0 bis 250ºC, in Abhängigkeit von der Natur des Härtungsmittels erhitzt. Die Dauer des Härtungsprozesses wird auch entsprechend der Natur des Härtungsmittels variieren, wird jedoch im Bereich von 5 Minuten bis zu 7 Tagen liegen.
- Die durch eine Kombination von Stufen a) und b) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens gebildeten Produkte besitzen einen Epoxygehalt, der im Verlauf der Zeit selbst bei erhöhten Temperaturen nicht abnimmt. Derartige Produkte finden spezielle Verwendung als flexibilisierte Harze oder verfestigte Harze für die Verwendung bei Klebeanwendungen.
- Innerhalb des Gebiets der Adhäsiva ist es bekannt,als Verfestigungsmittel Butadienkautschuke oder Butadien-Acrylnitril- Kautschuke einzusetzen. Häufig sind derartige Verfestigungsmittel mit dem Basis-Epoxyharz einer Prä-Adduktbildung unterzogen worden. Werden die Produkte des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens, insbesondere die Produkte von Stufen a) und b) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens, in Kombination mit üblichen Kautschuk-Verfestigungsmitteln eingesetzt, besitzt das resultierende Harzsystem eine hohe hydrolytische Stabilität und ist insbesondere bei der Formulierung von Adhäsivzusammensetzungen für die Verwendung im Freien wertvoll. Ahnlich sind die erfindungsgemäßen Produkte bei der Formulierung von Laminaten und Gußmassen verwendbar, die auf wirtschaftliche und kontrollierte Weise Laminate und Gußmassen mit modifizierten Festigkeitsmerkmalen ergeben.
- Die durch eine Kombination der Stufen a), b) und c) des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens gebildeten Produkte enthalten eine Kombination von harten und weichen Segmenten. Derartige unterschiedlich segmentiertenprodukte finden vorteilhaft Anwendung bei der Formulierung von Oberflächenbeschichtungen, die Filme mit verbesserter Schlagzähigkeit, z.B. Dosenbeschichtungen mit flexibilisierter Festigkeit oder tiefgezogene Beschichtungen, ergeben.
- Die folgenden Beispiele erläutern die vorliegende Erfindung näher.
- Eine Probe von Bisphenol A-diglycidylether mit einem Epoxidgehalt von 5,44 Mol/kg (400 g) wird auf 160ºC erhitzt, und man versetzt dann mit einer 25%igen Lösung von Zinktriflat in 2-Methoxyethanol (0,1 g). Hiernach wird Butan-1,4-diol (56,88 g) zugesetzt und die Temperatur 4 Stunden bei 160ºC gehalten, wonach der Epoxygehalt der Reaktionsmischung 2,0 Mol/kg betrug. Eine 0,1 M Kahumhydroxidlösung in Methanol (1,5 g) wird anschliebend zugesetzt. Nach weiteren 4 Stunden bei 160ºC war der Epoxywert der Mischung auf lediglich auf 1,98 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Man wiederholte Beispiel 1 unter Verwendung einer 0,1 M Natriumhydroxidlösung in Methanol anstelle von Kaliumhydroxid in Methanol. 4 Stunden nach Zugabe dieser Lösung war der Epoxygehalt der Reaktionsmischung auf 1,95 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Man wiederholte Beispiel 1 unter Verwendung einer 0,1 M Lithiumhydroxidlösung in Methanol anstelle von Kaliumhydroxid in Methanol. 4 Stunden nach Zugabe dieser Lösung war der Epoxygehalt der Reaktionsmischung auf 1,90 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Eine Probe von Bisphenol A-digylcidylether mit einem Epoxidgehalt von 5,44 Mol/kg (400 g) wird mit Cyclohexanon (114,22 g) vermischt und auf 160ºC erhitzt und mit einer 25%igen Lösung von Zinktriflat in 2-Methoxyethanol (0,07 g) versetzt. Hiernach wird Butan-1,4-diol (56,88 g) zugesetzt und die Temperatur auf 180 ºC erhöht. Nach 5 Stunden beträgt der Epoxygehalt der Reaktionsmischung 1,57 Mol/kg. Dann wird eine 10%ige Lösung von 8-Hydroxychinolin in Methanol (1,5 g) zugesetzt. Nach weiteren 4 Stunden bei 180ºC war der Epoxywert der Mischung lediglich auf 1,50 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Man wiederholt Beispiel 1 unter Verwendung von 76,58 g Butan-1,4-diol. Nach 5 Stunden beträgt der Epoxygehalt der Reaktionsmischung 1,13 Mol/kg, und 4 Stunden nach der Zugabe der Kahumhydroxidlösung ist dieser auf 1,08 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Man wiederholt Beispiel 1 unter Verwendung einer 25%igen Lösung von Lanthantriflat in 2-Methoxyethanol (0,15 g) anstelle von Zinktriflat. 4 Stunden nach der Zugabe der Kaliumhydroxidlösung ist der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung lediglich von 1,94 Mol/kg auf 1,92 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Man wiederholt Beispiel 1 unter Verwendung von Hexan-1,6- diol (72,71 g) anstelle von Butan-1,4-diol und einer 25%igen Lösung von Lanthantriflat in 2-Methoxyethanol (0,225 g) anstelle von Zinktriflat. 4 Stunden nach der Zugabe von 2,25 g der Kahumhydroxidlösung ist der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung lediglich von 2,03 Mol/kg auf 1,96 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Man wiederholt Beispiel 1 unter Verwendung von 2,2-Dimethyl- 1,3-propandiol (64,09 g) anstelle von Butan-1,4-diol und einer 25%igen Lösung von Lanthantriflat in 2-Methoxyethanol (0,15 g) anstelle von Zinktriflat. 4 Stunden nach Zugabe von 1,5 g der Kaliumhydroxidlösung ist der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung lediglich von 2,14 Mol/kg auf 1,93 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Eine Probe von 7-Oxabicyclo[4,1,0]heptan-3-carbonsäure-(7- oxabicyclo[4,1,0]hept-3-yl)-methylester mit einem Epoxidgehalt von 7,15 Mol/kg (200 g) wird auf 160ºC erhitzt und mit Butan-1,4-diol (42,57 g) und einer 25%igen Lösung von Lanthantriflat in 2-Methoxyethanol (0,25 g) versetzt. Die Temperatur wird 4,25 Stunden bei 160ºC gehalten, wonach der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung 2,46 Mol/kg beträgt. Eine 0,1 M Lösung von Kaliumhydroxid in Methanol (2,5 g) wird zugesetzt, und nach weiteren 4 Stunden bei 160ºC ist der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung lediglich auf 2,36 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Eine Probe von Bisphenol A-diglycidylether mit einem Epoxidgehalt von 5,44 Mol/kg (500 g) und Cyclohexanon (134,4 g) werden auf 160ºC erhitzt und mit 25% Zinktriflat in 2-Methoxyethanol (0,15 g) versetzt. Hierauf wird Butan-1,4-diol (37,75 g) zugegeben, und nach einer Reaktionszeit von 1,5 Stunden beträgt der Epoxidgehalt der Mischung 2,71 Mol/kg. Eine Lösung von 0,1 M Kaliumhydroxid in Methanol (2,25 g) wird dann zugesetzt, gefolgt von Ethyltriphenylphosphoniumbromid (0,25 g) und Bisphenol A (119,37 g). Die Temperatur wird auf 180ºC erhöht, und nach einer Sstündigen Reaktionszeit ist der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung auf den Sollwert von 0,95 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Beispiel 7 wird mit der Ausnahme wiederholt, daß nach der Zugabe der Kaliumhydroxidlösung eine 25%ige Lösung von Ethyltriphenylphosphoniumjodid in Methanol (0,2 g) zusammen mit Bisphenol A (48,43 g) zugesetzt wird. Nach weiteren 4 Stunden bei 160ºC ist der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung auf den Sollwert von 0,95 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Beispiel 6 wird mit der Ausnahme wiederholt, daß nach der Zugabe der Kahumhydroxidlösung eine 25%ige Lösung von Ethyltriphenylphosphoniumjodid in Methanol (0,2 g) zusammen mit Resorcin (23,84 g) zugesetzt wird. Nach weiteren 3 Stunden bei 160ºC ist der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung auf den Sollwert von 0,94 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Man wiederholt Beispiel 1 unter Verwendung einer 25%igen Lösung von Lanthantriflat in 2-Methoxyethanol (0,15 g) anstelle von Zinktriflat. Nach Zugabe der Kahumhydroxidlösung setzt man eine 25%ige Lösung von Ethyltriphenylphosphoniumjodid in Methanol (0,2 g) zusammen mit Bisphenol A (46,81 g) zu. Nach weiteren 4 Stunden bei 160ºC ist der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung auf den Sollwert von 1,00 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Eine Probe von Bisphenol A-diglyöidylether mit einem Epoxidgehalt von 5,44 Mol/kg (400 g) wird auf 160ºC erhitzt und mit einer 25%igen Lösung von Zinktriflat in 2-Methoxyethanol (0,12 g) versetzt. Butan-1,4-diol (21,99 g) wird hiernach zugesetzt und die Temperatur 3 h 40 min bei 160ºC gehalten, wonach der Epoxywert 3,0 Mol/kg beträgt. Dann wird eine 0,1 M Lösung von Natriumhydroxid in Methanol (1,5 g) zugegeben, geiolgt von Ethyltriphenylphosphoniumjodid (0,2 g) und Bisphenol A (165,83 g). Nach weiteren 4 h 20 min bei 160ºC ist der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung auf 0,4 Mol/kg gefallen.
- Eine Formulierung wird hergestellt aus dem Produkt von Beispiel 14 (80 Teile), gelöst in einer Mischung von 1-Methoxy-2-propanol (130,6 Teile), 1-Methoxy-2-propylacetat (37,4 Teile) und 4-Methylpentan-2-on (18,7 Teile); Cymel 1141 (Handelsqualität von verethertem, methyloliertem Melaminharz) (20 Teile), gelst in Butan-1-ol (20 Teile); Orthophosphorsäure (2,5 Teile), gelöst in Butan-1-ol (22,5 Teile); 1-Methoxy-2-propanol (25,2 Teile), 1-Methoxy-2-propylacetat (7,2 Teile) und 4-Methylpentan-2-on (3,6 Teile). Diese Formulierung wurde als 5 u dicke Besdiichtung sowohl auf entfetteten Stahl als auch auf Aluminium aufgebracht und 20 min bei 205ºC gehärtet. Die reverse Schlagzähigkeit der Beschichtung auf Stahl betrug> 200 cm.kp; die Aceton-Abriebbeständigkeit auf Aluminium (20faches Abreiben) ergab eine Bewertung von 1-2; die Gitteradhäsion auf Aluminium (DIN 53151) ergab eine Bewertung von 0; die Essigsäurebeständigkeit auf Aluminium (6 h bei 98ºC in 2%iger Essigsäure) ergab eine Bewertung von 1-2; und der Keilbiegetest (unter Verwendung des Erichsen-Geräts Modell 471) ergab einen Wert von 4,4 cm auf Aluminium.
- Eine Probe von festem Bisphenol A-Epoxyharz mit einem Epoxidgehalt von 0,6 Mol/kg (400 g) und Cyclohexanon (100,89 g) wurde auf 160ºC erhitzt und mit 25% Zinktriflat in Methoxyethanol (0,3 g) und Butan-1,4-diol (3,56 g) versetzt. Die Reaktion wurde 3 h bei 160ºC gehalten, wonach der Epoxidgehalt der Reaktionsmischung 0,24 Mol/kg betrug. Eine 0,1 M Lösung von Kaliumhydroxid in Methanol (2,5 g) wurde zugesetzt, und man ließ die Mischung in Aluminiumschalen auslaufen.
- Man bildet eine Formulierung aus dem Produkt von Beispiel 16 (80 Teile), gelöst in einer Mischung von 1-Methoxy-2-propanol (130,6 Teile), 1-Methoxy-2-propylacetat (37,4 Teile) und 4-Methylpentan-2-on (18,7 Teile); Cymel 1141 (verethertes, methyloliertes Melaminharz von Handelsqualität) (20 Teile), gelöst in Butan-1-ol (20 Teile); Orthophosphorsäure (2,5 Teile), gelöst in Butan-1-ol (22,5 Teile); 1-Methoxy-2-propanol (25,2 Teile), 1-Methoxy-2-propylacetat (7,2 Teile) und 4-Methylpentan-2-on (3,6 Teile). Diese Formulierung wurde als eine 5 u Beschichtung sowohl auf entfetteten Stahl als auch Aluminium aufgebracht und 20 min bei 205ºC gehärtet. Die reserve Schlagzähigkeit der Beschichtung auf Stahl betrug > 200 cm.kp; die Aceton-Abriebbeständigkeit auf Aluminium (20faches Abreiben) ergab eine Bewertung von 0; die Gitteradhäsion auf Aluminium (DIN 53151) ergab eine Bewertung von 0; die Essigsäurebeständigkeit auf Aluminium (6 h bei 98ºC in 2%iger Essigsäure) ergab eine Bewertung von 0; und der Keilbiegetest (unter Verwendung des Erichsen-Geräts Modell 471) ergab einen Wert von 6 cm auf Aluminium.
Claims (15)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Materials mit
erhöhtem Molekulargewicht, bezogen auf das
Diepoxid-Ausgangsmaterial, wobei das Material entweder ein
Hydroxy-endständiges oder ein Epoxy-endständiges Material ist, umfassend
a) die Umsetzung eines Diepoxids mit einer
Dihydroxyverbindung der Formel I
Q(OH)&sub2; I
worin Q ein zweiwertiger aliphatischer, cycloaliphatischer
oder araliphatischer Rest ist, in Gegenwart,als Katalysator,
eines Triflatsalzes eines Metalls der Gruppe IIA, IIB, IIIA,
IIIB oder VIIIA des Periodensystems (entsprechend der IUPAC
1970 Konvention), um ein Epoxy-endständiges Material zu
ergeben;
b) die Deaktivierung des Triflatsalz-Katalysators;
und
c) gegebenenfalls die Umsetzung des in Stufe b)
gebildeten Materials mit einem aromatischen Diol zur Erzielung
eines Hydroxy-endständigen oder Epoxy-endständiges Materials.
2. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1, worin der Gruppe IIA-
Metalltriflat-Katalysator Magnesiumtriflat ist; der Gruppe
IIB-Metallkatalysator ein Zink- oder Cadmiumtriflat ist; der
Gruppe IIIA-Metallkatalysator Lanthantriflat ist; der Gruppe
HIB-Metallkatalysator Aluminiumtriflat ist; und der Gruppe
VIIIA-Metallkatalysator Kobalttriflat ist.
3. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1 oder 2, worin die Menge
des verwendeten Metalltriflat-Katalysators im Bereich von
10 bis 1000 ppm, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der
Reaktionsmischung, liegt.
4. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 3, worin die Menge des
verwendeten Metalltriflat-Katalysators im Bereich von 20
bis 200 ppm, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der
Reaktionsmischung, liegt.
5. Verfahren gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, worin
der Metalltriflat-Katalysator in Form einer Lösung in einem
organischen Lösungsmittel verwendet wird.
6. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 5, worin das organische
Lösungsmittel ein aromatisches Kohlenwasserstoff-Lösungs
mittel; ein cycloaliphatisches, polares Lösungsmittel; oder
ein polares, aliphatisches Lösungsmittel ist.
7. Verfahren gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, worin
Q ein geradkettiger oder verzweigter C&sub2;&submin;&sub1;&sub2;-Alkylenrest; ein
gegebenenfalls substituierter C&sub5;&submin;&sub8;-Cycloalkylenrest, der
verschiedene miteinander über ein Brückenglied gebundene
Cycloalkylenreste umfassen kann, oder ein gegebenenfalls
ringsubstituierter Benzylrest ist.
8. Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche,
worin der Diepcxid-Reaktant ein Diglycidylether oder
Diglycidylester ist.
9. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 8, worin das Diepoxid ein
Diglycidylether von 2,2-Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propan, von
Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-methan oder von einem Novolak,
gebildet aus Formaldehyd und Phenol, gegebenenfalls substituiert
an dem Ring durch eine C&sub1;&submin;&sub9;-Alkylgruppe, oder eine Phenyl-,
Phenethyl- oder Methylphenethylgruppe,mit einem
1,2-Epoxidgehalt von mehr als 1,0 Äquivalent je Kilogramm ist.
10. Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche,
worin die Triflatsalz-Katalysatordeaktivierung in Stufe b)
durch Zusatz eines Alkalimetallhydroxids oder durch Zusatz
eines Metallkomplexierungsmittels bewirkt wird.
11. Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche,
worin der aromatische Diol-Reaktant Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-
methan (Bisphenol F), Bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl-sulfon, 2,2-Bis-
(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propan (Bisphenol A) oder 2,2-Bis-(3,5-
dibrom-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propan ist.
12. Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche,
worin das Molverhältnis des Produkts der Stufe b) zu dem
aromatischen Diol-Reaktanten in Stufe c) des Verfahrens im
Bereich von 0,5:1 bis 50:1 liegt.
13. Verfahren gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche,
worin Stufe c) des Verfahrens durchgeführt wird durch
Erhitzen der Reaktanten bei einer Temperatur im Bereich von 100
bis 200ºC in Anwesenheit einer Base und gegebenenfalls in
Gegenwart eines inerten Lösungsmittels.
14. Härtbare Zusammensetzung, umfassend 1) ein
Hydroxyendständiges Produkt, gebildet durch ein Verfahren, wie in
einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche beansprucht, worin die
Stufen a), b) und c) durchgeführt werden, und 2) ein
Härtungsmittel für das Produkt 1).
15. Zusammensetzung gemäß Anspruch 14, worin das
Härtungsmittel ein Aminop last; ein Phenol-Formaldehyd-Harz;
oder ein blockiertes Polyisocyanat ist.
