Description
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind bestimmte Salze von Phosphor und Brom enthaltenden Säuren, nämlich Salze von 5,5-Bis-(brommethyl)-2-hydroxy-2-oxo-l,;5,2-dioxaphosphorinan,
insbesondere Salze mit mehrwertigen Metallen und Aminosalze, sowie ein Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung. Die Verbindungen der Erfindung
sind Mittel zum Flammfestausrüsten von Polymerisaten. Außerdem eignen sie sich als Hochdruckzusätze für Schmiermittel,
insbesondere für Getriebe-Schmierstoffe.
Im Hinblick auf ihre Flammfestigkeit gibt es bei Polymerisaten große Unterschiede. Einige, wie die Polyolefine, Polystyrol,
Polyalkylacrylate und -methacrylate, brennen leicht. PoIytetrafluoräthylen,
Polyvinylidenchlorid und Polyvinylchlorid weisen andererseits eine ziemlich hohe Flammfestigkeit auf.
Jedenfalls sollten Polymerisate bei bestimmten Anwendungen ein hohes Maß an Flammenverzögerungsvermögen aufweisen, damit
die Anforderungen verschiedener Bauordnungen erfüllt werden oder die Sicherheitserfordernisse befriedigt werden,
die z.B. bei Spielsachen, Möbeln, Stofferzeugnissen und Anwendungen
im Automobilbau bestehen.

Die Behandlung von stärker entflammbaren Polymerisaten zur Erhöhung ihrer Feuerfestigkeit ist bekannt. Sie besteht im
allgemeinen aus dem Zusatz einer entsprechenden Menge von Antimonoxid, halogierten Paraffinen, halogenieren Kohlen-Wasserstoffen
oder niedermolekularen Phosphatestern zu der Polymerisatmasse. Gewöhnlich erfordert die xtfirksame Verwendung
dieser und anderer Zusätze Jedoch ihre Gegenwart in so hohen Konzentrationen, daß die erwünschten Eigenschaften
des Polymerisats ungünstig beeinflußt werden.
Günstige Eigenschaften, wie Härte, Klarheit, Festigkeit
und Elastizität, v/erden durch die Anwesenheit großer Men-

gen von flaminverzögernden chemischen Stoffen beträchtlich verschlechtert.
Das Ziel der Formulierung bei der Herstellung einer flammverzögernden
Polymerisatmasse besteht deshalb im Zusatz einer gerade ausreichenden Menge des Flammverzögerers, um
den gewünschten Grad des Flammenverzögerungsvermögens zu erhalten, jedoch nicht mehr als diese Mindestmenge. Häufig
ist es aber nicht möglich, einen Flammenverzögerer auszuwählen,
der diese Erfordernisse befriedigend erfüllt.
Die Herstellung von Ammoniumsalzen von Phosphorsäuren, die durch Umsetzung von CH5CH(OH)CH2OH und (CH5CHOH)2 mit Phosphoroxychlorid
erhalten werden, wird von Ukita und Mitarb., in "Organic Phosphates", Pharm. Bull. (Tokyo) Bd. 5 (1957),
S. 121 - 126, beschrieben. Diese Salze sollen in Isopropanol
unlöslich sein. Sie wurden zum Zweck des Vergleichs mit cyclischen
Nukleotiden hergestellt. Einen Hinweis auf die Verwendbarkeit der Stoffe als Flammenverzögerer enthält die ge-
nannte Veröffentlichung nicht.
Die Herstellung des Calciumsalzes von Pentaerythrit-dijodhydrin-phosphorsäure
wird von Eidebenz und Mitarb, in "Jodine-Containing Aliphatic Phosphoric Acid Esters", Arch.
Pharm., Bd. 280 (19^2), S. 227 - 2Jl, beschrieben. "
Das Ammoniumsalz von 5,5-Dimethyl-2-hydroxy-2-oxo-l,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan
wird von Edmundson in "Cyclic Organophosphorus Compounds-III" in Tetrahedron, Bd. 21 (9)
(1965), S. 2579 - 2387,'beschrieben. Auch die Herstellung
des Kaliumsalzes durch Neutralisation der Säure mit wäßrigem Kaliumdicarbonat und Eindampfen zur Trockene wird erwähnt.
Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, neue Salze von 5,5-Bis-(brommethyl)-2-hydroxy-2-oxo-l,3* 2-dioxaphosphorinan
bereitzustellen, die wirksame Flammenverzögerer in Polymerisatmassen
darstellen. Diese Aufgabe wird durch die Erfindung gelöst.
Die Erfindung betrifft den in den Patentansprüchen gekennzeichneten
Gegenstand.
Die Salze von 5,5-Bis-(brommethyl)-2-hydroxy-2-oxo-l,;5,2-dioxaphosphorinan
der Erfindung werden durch Umsetzen der genannten Säure oder ihres Säurechlorids mit einem wasserlöslichen
Metallsalz, einer basischen Metallverbindung oder einem Amin zu dem entsprechenden Salz und Gewinnen des Salzes
aus dem Umsetzungsgemisch hergestellt.
Zwar ist auch die im Verfahren der Erfindung eingesetzte
Säure selbst ein wirksamer flammenverzögernder Zusatz bei vielen Polymerisatmassen. Ihre Verwendung wird jedoch dadurch
begrenzt, daß Polymerisate, die diese Säure enthalten, sich bei erhöhter Temperatur verfärben. Dagegen verursachen
die Metall- und Aminosalze der Erfindung keine nennenswerte Verfärbung in Polymerisatmassen unter diesen Bedingungen.
Sie sind für den Zweck der Erfindung deshalb besser geeignet.

Die zur Herstellung verwendeten wasserlöslichen Metallsalze oder basischen Metallverbindungen können Chloride, Bromide,
Nitrate, Sulfate, Oxide, Hydroxide, Carbonate, Bicarbonate und niedere Alkoxide (1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatome) von Natrium,
Kalium, Calcium, Magnesium, Barium, Strontium, Antimon,
Silber, Kupfer, Nickel, Eisen, Kobalt, Zink, Mangan, Molybdän, Chrom, Titan, Zirkonium, Cadmium, Aluminium, Wismut, Blei,
Zinn und Vanadium sein. Bevorzugte Metalle sind Aluminium und Calcium.
Die als Ausgangsverbindung eingesetzte Säure ist wasserlöslich. Das Verfahren wird gewöhnlich in Gegenwart einer aus-

reichenden Menge Wasser durchgeführt, um die Umsetzungsteilnehmer in Lösung zu halten. Die verwendete Metall- oder
Aminokomponente wird mindestens in stöchiometrischer Menge
eingesetzt. Im-allgemeinen wird mehr als die stöchiometrisehe
Menge verwendet. Die erhaltenen Salze sind in Wasser günst'igerweise weniger "löslich als die Säure selbst. Dies
ermöglicht eine verhältnismäßig einfache Abtrennung und Gewinnung der erhaltenen Salze. Das Verfahren wird normaler-.weise
bei erhöhter Temperatur, d.h. zwischen etwa 6o und 100°C, durchgeführt. Beim anschließenden Abkühlen kristallisiert
das Salz aus der Lösung aus und wird auf einem Filter gesammelt.
Die Beispiele erläutern die Herstellung verschiedener Salze von 5,5-Bis-(brommethyl)-2-chlor-2-oxo-l,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan.
Aluminiumsalz

Eine Lösung von 64,8 g (0,2 Mol) 5,5-Bis-(brömmethyl)-2-hydroxy-2-oxo-l,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan
in 250 ml Wasser wird auf 900C erwärmt und mit einer 90°C heißen Lösung
von 144,9 S (0,6 Mol) Aluminiumchloridhexahydrat in 100 ml
Wasser versetzt. Die Zugabe·erfolgt langsam unter Rühren.
Nach vollständiger Zugabe wird das erhaltene Gemisch langsam auf Raumtemperatur abgekühlt und filtriert. Der erhaltene
Feststoff wird mit 50 ml kaltem Wasser gewaschen und bei 1000C unter vermindertem Druck bis zur Gewichtskon-
stanz getrocknet. Ausbeute: 52,3 g (79 ^) Aluminiumsalz,
dessen Elementaranlyse der Formel C,VHoiiBrgO-^P^Al entspricht.

Calciumsalz
Eine Lösung von 64,8 g (0,2 Mol) 5*5-Bis-(brommethyl)-2-hydroxy-2-oxo-l,3j2-dioxaphosphorinan
in 250 ml Wasser wird auf 900C erwärmt und mit einer 900C heißen Lösung
von 131,4 g (0,6 Mol) Calciumchlorid-hexahydrat in 100 ml Wasser versetzt. Das Vermischen erfolgt gemäß Beispiel 1.
Es werden 63*7 S (99 %) Calciumsalz erhalten.
Beispiel 3".
Melaminsalz
Ein Gemisch von 6,85 g (0,02 Mol) 5,5-Bis-(brommethyl)-.
2-chlor-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan und 2/52 g (0,02
Mol) Melamin wird mit 20 ml V/asser versetzt. Das erhaltene Gemisch wird sodann unter Rühren I5 Minuten auf 1000C erhitzt
und anschließend langsam auf Raumtemperatur und danach in einem Eisbad abgekühlt. Durch Filtration werden
8*43 S (92 %) Melaminsalz als farbloses Pulver erhalten,
dessen Elementaranalyse der Formel -CgH1 ,-Br2NgO2, P entspricht.
Bevorzugte Salze der Erfindung sind die Erdalkalimetall-, Aluminium- und Melaminsalze. Das bevorzugte Herstellungsverfahren
erfolgt unter Verwendung des entsprechenden Metallhalogenids oder von Melamin.
Beispiele für
Polymerisate, die mit den Verbindungen der Erfindung im Hinblick auf ihre flammenverzögernden Eigenschaften insbesondere
verbessert werden können, sind Polypropylen und
on J wie Polystyrol^ ABS- und MBS-Polvmerisate.
Styrolpolymerisate,/Dabei genügt die Anwesenheit geringer
Mengen dieser Zusätze. Die Zusätze sind bei alleiniger Verwendung wirksam, oder in Verbindung mit einem synergistisch
wirkenden Mittel, wie Antimontrioxid.
Die Metallsalze der Erfindung werden gewöhnlich in einer
Menge von etwa 20 bis etwa 32 Teile pro 100 Teile Harz

1 verwendet. Gegebenenfalls kann Antimontrioxid.als synergistisches
Mittel in einer Konzentration von etwa 2 bis Teile pro 100 Teile Harz eingesetzt werden.

5· Verfahren zur Herstellung der Verbindungen nach Anspruch
1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man die freie Säure 5,5-Bis-(brommethyl) -2-hydroxy-2-'oxo-l,3* 2-dioxaphosphorinan
oder ihr'Säurechlorid mit einem wasserlöslichen Metallsalz, einer basischen Metallverbindung oder einem Amin zu dem
entsprechenden Salz umsetzt und das erhaltene Salz aus dem Reaktionsgemisch gewinnt.
6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5* dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man ein Halogenid eines mehrwertigen Metalls einsetzt.
7. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man Aluminiumchlorid einsetzt.
8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man Calciumchlorid einsetzt.

9. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man ein Amin einsetzt.
10. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man Amino-s-triazin einsetzt.
11. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man Melamin einsetzt.
12. Verfahren zur Herstellung der Verbindungen gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man 5,5-Bis-(brommethyl)
-2-ChIOr-E-OXO-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan mit einem wasserlöslichen
Metallsalz, einer basischen Metallverbindung oder einem Amin in Gegenwart von Wasser zur entsprechenden
Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel I umsetzt und das erhaltene Salz aus dem Reaktionsgemisch gewinnt.
