Es ist bereits bekannt, daß 2-Chlorformyiäthyl-phosphinsäurechloride, die aus Alkyldichlorphosphinen
und α,/7-ungesättigten Carbonsäuren gut zugänglich
sind, mit Acetanhydrid zu 2,5-Dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospho- -15
lanen cyclisiert werden können, wobei Acetylchlorid als

Es ist ferner aus Veröffentlichungen derselben Autoren bekannt, 2-Chlorformyläthyl-phosphinsäurechloride mit Hilfe von 1 Mol Äthanol oder Essigsäure zu
Phospholanen zu cyclisieren.

Es ist ein Nachteil dieser Verfahren, daß die 2-Chlorformylethyl-phosphinsäurechloride in einem getrennten Verfahrensschritt hergestellt, destillativ gereinigt
und abschließend in einem zweiten Schritt mit dem
Cyclisierungsmittel zu den entsprechenden Phospholanen
umgesetzt werden müssen.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß man 2,5-Dioxo-l,2-oxaphospholane
der allgemeinen Formel (I)

Erfindung können sein: Carboxylgruppen, SuI-fonsäuregruppen, Phor,phinsäuregruppen, Phosphinsäureestergruppen
und Phosphinsäureanhydridgruppen.
Bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren fallen außer den gewünschten 2,5-Dioxo-l,2-oxy-phospholane in
Abhängigkeit von der Natur der eingesetzten Ausgangsmaterialien der Formeln (IV) bzw. (V) auch die Reaktionsprodukte
aus den letzteren an. So erhält man neben Phospholanen beispielsweise Acy!-, Sulfonyl- und
Phosphinsäurehalogenide, die isoliert and in reiner
Form gewonnen werden können. Ferner fallen bei cyclisierungsfahigen
Verbindungen wie 3- bzw. 4-Hydroxyalkancarbonsäuren Lactone und bei 3- bzw. 4-Hydroxyalkylphosphinsäuren
bzw. -estern Phostone an, die ebenfalls abgetrennt und in reiner Form gewonnen werden
können. Natürlich kann man in einigen Fällen durch Verdoppelung des Einsatzes von Verbindungen
der Formeln (IV) bzw. (V) noch weitere Produkte erhalten, im Falle der Phosphinsäuren oder Phosphinsäureester
die entsprechenden Phosphinsäureanhydride.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Umsetzungen der Dihalogenphosphine mit o-^-ungesättigten Carbonsäuren und
Verbindungen der Formeln (IV; bzw. (V) lassen sich z. B. durch folgende Reaktionsgleichungen verdeutlichen:

Es ist überraschend, daß die Dihalogenphosphine mit einem Gemisch einer ajS-ungesättigten Carbonsäure
und einer Verbindung der Formeln (IV) bzw. (V) in ίο
einer Eintopfreaktion zu den 2,5-DiOXO-I1Z-OXa-PhOspholanen
umgesetzt werden können, obwohl die Dihalogenphosphine auch in Abwesenheit der ajS-ungesättigten
Carbonsäuren mit Verbindungen der Formeln (IV) bzw. (V) unter Bildung von solchen Produk- «
ten reagieren, die unter den Reaktionsbedingungen des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens mit den ffj?-ungesättigten
Carbonsäuren keine Umsetzung eingehen. So reagieren Carbonsäuren, wie z. B. Essigsäure, Propionsäure
und Buttersäure schon unterhalb von Raumtemperatur mit Alkyldich'.orphosphin zu l-Hydroxy-alkan-1,1-bis-aIkyl-phosphinsäuren
(DE-OS 2153 998), die eine Cyclisierung mit ^^-ungesättigten Carbonsäuren
zu 2,5-Dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholanen nicht mehr eingehen.
Natürlich können die erfindungsgemäßen Umsetzungen, wie sie z. B. vorstehend unter den ZifTen 1) bis 5)
beschrieben sind, auch in zwei Arbeitsgängen, zunächst der Anlagerung der arjS-ungesättigten Carbonsäure,
gefolgt von der Cyclisierung in demselben ReäktiönSgefaß,
durchgeführt werden.
Es ist ein besonderer Vorteil des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens, daß durch die Eintopfreaktion umständliche
Arbeitsgänge, wie z. B. Isolierung und Reinigung eines Zwischenproduktes eingespart und die Gesamtreaktionszeiten
wesentlich verkürzt werden können. Weiterhin lassen sich durch geeignete Wahl einer Verbindung
der Formeln (IV) oder (V) sowie des stöchiometrischen Verhältnisses dieser Verbindungen zur Molzahl
der beiden anderen Reaktionspartner die oben erwähnten Halogenide, Anhydride und Phosphinsäurederivate
herstellen.
Ais Dihalogenphosphine der Formel (II), die nach bekannten Methoden hergestellt werden, können erfindungsgemäß
eingesetzt werden:
Methyldichlorphosphin,
Äthyldichlorphosphin,
Propyldichlorphosphjn,
Butyldichlorphosphin,
und die entsprechenden Dibromphosphine.
Als ff^-ungesättigte Carbonsäuren der Formel (III) werden Acrylsäure oder Methacrylsäure verwendet.
Als ff^-ungesättigte Carbonsäuren der Formel (III) werden Acrylsäure oder Methacrylsäure verwendet.

Bevorzugte Verbindungen sind Essigsäure, Propionsäure, Sulfonsäuren, Dimethylphosphinsäure, Methyläthyl-phosphinsäure und Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäureisobutylester.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren wird im allgemeinen so durchgeführt, daß man ein Gemisch einer a Jiungesättigten Carbonsäure und einer Verbindung der
Purmein (IV) oder (V) zu den Dihalogenphosphinen tropft. Es ist aber auch möglich, die Dihalogenphosphine zu einem Gemisch der beiden anderen Reaktionspartner zu geben. Die Dihaiogenphosphine und
die a,/?-ungesättigten Carbonsäuren werden in äquimolaren Mengen eingesetzt, während das stöchiometrische Verhältnis der Verbindungen der Formeln (IV)
bzw. (V) zu den anderen Reaktionspartnern davon abhängt, ob z. B. Halogenide oder - besonders bei
bifunktionellen Verbindungen - Lactone, Carbonsäureanhydride oder Phosphinsäureanhydride als Nebenprodukte erwünscht sind. Das Molverhältnis der Dihaiogenphosphine bzw. der ^-ungesättigten Carbonsäuren zu den monofunktionellen Verbindungen der Formeln (IV) und (V) kann demnach 1 : 1 oder I : 2 betragen, während vergleichsweise die bifunktionellen Verbindungen der Formeln (IV) und (V) zu den anderen
Reaktionspartnern im Molverhältnis 1 : 1 oder 0,5 : 1 eingesetzt werden können.
Als Lösungsvermittler oder als Verdünnungsmittel können den Dihalogenphosphinen bzw. den beiden
anderen Reaktionspartnern inerte Lösungsmittel zugesetzt werden, beispielsweise aliphatisch^, cycloaliphatische, aromatische oder araliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe wie Xylol, Chlorbenzol, Toluol, Chlortoluol,
Dichlorbenzol, höher siedende Benzinfraktionen, Chlorkohlenwasserstoffe, wie z. B. Methylenchlorid,
Chloroform, 1,2-Dicbforäihan, 1,2-Dichiorpropan,
Äther, wie z. B. Tetrahydrofuran, Dioxan, Isopropyläther, Di-n-butyläther, Dimethoxyäthan, Polyäthylenglykol- und Polypropylenglykol-dialkyläther. Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren wird jedoch vorzugweise in
Abwesenheit von inerten Lösungsmitteln durchgeführt.
Die Reaktionstemperatur soll etwa 0° bis +1600C,
vorzugsweise 0° bis +1000C, insbesondere +15° bis +
800C betragen. Es ist nicht erforderlich, die Reaktionstemperatur durch Außenkühlung konstant zu halten.
Vielmehr kann es beim Arbeiten ohne Lösungsmittel von Vorteil sein, die ReaJctionstemperatur bis zum
Schmelzpunkt des Pbospholans ansteigen zu lassen, um die Viskosität des Reaktionsgemisches herabzusetzen.
Die Reaktionszeit beträgt im allgemeinen ca. 2 bis 6 Stunden. Die Reaktionsmischung wird danach noch
ca. !a Stunde bei 100° bis 1300C unter Normaldruck und
anschließend 1A Stunde bei ca. 130°C-200°C unter
Wasserstrahlvakuum nachgerührt.
Die 2,5-Dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholane können im allgemeinen gut durch fraktionierte Destillation von den
anderen Reaktionsprodukten abgetrennt werden. Leichtflüchtige Reaktionsprodukte werden bereits
beim Nachrühren bei Normaldruck bzw. unter Wasserstrahlvakmim entfernt. Es ist aber auch möglich, das
Reaktionsgut durch eine Extraktion mit inerten Lösungsmitteln oder durch Umkristallisieren aufzutrennen und zu reinigen.
Die Ausbeuten an 2^-Dioxo-l,2-oxa-phosphoIanen
betragen ca. 70—80% der Theorie, bezogen auf die eingesetzten Dihaiogenphosphine der Formel (IT).
2,5-Dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholane sind gute Flammschutzmittel, die für die Herstellung schwer entflammbarer, linearer Polyester eingesetzt werden können.
Weiterhin stellen sie wertvolle Zwischenprodukte dar, die beispielsweise zu Flammschutzmitteln verarbeitet
werden können.
Die Erfindung wird durch die nachfolgenden Beispiele erläutert.
ίο Beispiel 1
2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-1,2-oxa-phospholan aus
Methyldichlorphosphin, Acrylsäure und Wasser
Zu einer Lösung von 365 g (3,12 Mol) Methyldichlorir>
phosphin in 600 ml Methylenchlorid tropft man bei 20°-25°C ein Gemisch aus 225 g (3,12 Mol) Acrylsäure
und 56 g (3,12 Mol) Wasser. Dabei entweicht ein kräftiger Strom von Chlorwasserstoff. Das Lösungsmittel
wird abdestilliert und anschließend unter Wasserstrahlvakuum ca. 4 Stunden auf 130°-1500C erwärmt. Nach
Destillation in einem Dünnschichtverdampfer (Kp,,33mb„: 164°-170°C) erhält man 322 g 2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan. Das entspricht einer
Ausbeute von 77% der Theorie, bezogen auf Methyldichlorphosphin.
2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan aus
]0 Methyldichlorphosphin, Acrylsäure und Essigsäure
Zu 117 g (1 Mol) Methyldichlorphosphin wird bei 25°-30°C ein Gemisch aus 72 g (1 Mol) Acrylsäure und
60 g CJ Mol) Eisessig getropft. Nach beendetem Zutropfen wird die Reaktionslösung auf 60°-1000C erwärmt,
wobei gleichzeitig Acetylchlorid (57 g) abdestilliert und ein kräftiger Strom von Chlorwasserstoff entweicht. Zur
Entfernung der restlichen Mengen an Chlorwasserstoff wird unter Wasserstrahlvakuum auf 1500C Innentemperatur erwärmt. Das rohe Phosphoian wird durch eine
Hochvakuumdestillation gereinigt. Man erhält 98 g 2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan (Kp2 mbu: 169°C).
Das entspricht einer Ausbeute von 73% der Theorie.
2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan aus
Methyldichlorphosphin, Acrylsäure und Propionsäure
Zu 58,5 g (0,5 Mol) Methyldichlorphosphin wird bei 20°-30°C ein Gemisch aus 36 g (0,5 Mol) Acrylsäure
und 37 g (0,5 Mol) Propionsäure getropft. Nach beenc>
tem Zutropfen wird die Reaktionslösung auf 800C-1300C erwärmt, wobei gleichzeitig Propionsäurechlorid (36 g) abdestilliert und Chlorwasserstoff entweicht. Anschließend wird unter Wasserstrahlvakuum
auf 150°-1600C erwärmt, um die restlichen Mengen
Chlorwasserstoff zu entfernen. Nach einer Hochvakuumdestillation des Rohphospholans erhält man 47 g
2-MethyI-2,5-dioxo-l ,2-oxa-phospholan (Kp0^3 mb„:
160°-I62°C). Das entspricht einer Ausbeute von 70%
der Theorie.
2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan aus Methyldichlorphosphin, Acrylsäure und Propansulfonsäure
Zu 58,5 g (0,5 Mol) Methyldichlorphosphin wird bei 20°-30°C ein Gemisch aus 36 g (0,5 MoI) Acrylsäure
und 62 g (0,5 Mol) Propansulfonsäure getropft. Nach
beendetem Zutropfen wird die Temperatur langsam auf 1000C gesteigert, wobei Chlorwasserstoff entweicht.
Anschließend wird unter Wasserstrahlvakuum bei einer Innentemperatur von 120°-160°C Propansullbnsäurechlorid
(18 g) abdestilliert. Die Hochvakuumdestillation des Rückstandes ergibt 51 g 2-Methyl-2,5-dioxol,?-9xa-phospholan
(Kp266 mbar: 185°-190°C). Das entspricht
einer Ausbeute von 76,4% der Theorie.
2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan aus
Methyldichlorphosphin, Acrylsäure und
Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäure
Zu 58,5 g (0,5 Mol) Methyldichlorphosphin wird bei 2O°-3O°C ein Gemisch aus 36 g (0,5 Mol) Acrylsäure
und 54 g (0,5 Mol) Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäure getropft. Nach beendetem Zutropfen wird die Temperatur
langsam auf 100°- 1200C gesteigert, wobei Chlorwasserstoffentweicht.
Anschließend werden unter Wasserstrahlvakuum bei einer Innentemperatur von 130°-
17O0C 40 g Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäurechiorid abdestilliert.
Die Hochvakuumdestillation des Rückstandes ergibt 47 g 2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan
(Kpi,73mb3r: 165°-168°C). Das entspricht einer Ausbeute
von 70% der Theorie.
2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan aus
Methyldichlorphosphin, Acrylsäure und
Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäurcanhydrid
Zu 58,5 g (0,5 Mol) Methyldichlorphosphin wird bei 20°-40°C ein Gemisch aus 36 g (0,5 Mol) Acrylsäure
und 99 g (0,5 Mol) Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäureanhydrid
getropft. Nach beendetem Zutropfen wird 15 Minuten bei 80°-1000C nachgerührt. Anschließend
werden unter Wasserstrahlvakuum bei einer Innentemperatur von 120°-1600C 98 g Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäurechlorid
abdestilliert. Die Hochvakuumdestillation des Rückstandes ergibt 49 g 2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan.
Das entspricht einer Ausbeute von 73% der Theorie.
2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan aus
Methyldichlorphosphin, Acrylsäure und
Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäureisobutylester
Methyldichlorphosphin, Acrylsäure und
Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäureisobutylester
Zu 58,5 g (0,5 Mol) Methyldichlorphosphin wird bei 25°-50°C ein Gemisch aus 36 g (0,5 Mol) Acrylsäure
und 76 g (0,5 Mol) Methyl-äthyl-phosphinsäureisobutylester
getropft. Nach beendetem Zutropfen werden
ίο ca. 30 g Isobutylchlorid bei Normaldruck abdestilliert.
Anschließend wird unter Wasserstrahlvakuum bis zu einer Innentemperatur von 150°-17O0C Methy'.-äthylphosphinsäurechlorid
(ca. 26 g) abdestilliert. Der Rückstand wird einer Hochvakuumdestillation unterworfen.
r> Man erhält 51 g 2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan
(Kp0Ii mbar: 158°C). Das entspricht einer Ausbeute
von 76,4% der Theorie.
2,4-Dimethyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan aus
Methacrylsäure und
3-Hydroxypropyl-methyl-phosphinsäure
3-Hydroxypropyl-methyl-phosphinsäure
Zu 58,5 g (0,5 Mol) Methyldichlorphosphin wird bei 50:'-60°C ein Gemisch aus 43 g (0,5 Mol) Methacrylsäure
und 69 g (0,5 Mol) 3-Hydroxypropyl-methylphosphinsäure
getropft, wobei gleichzeitig Chlorwasserstoff entweicht. Anschließend erwärmt man unter
Wasserstrahlvakuum bis auf eine Innen temperatur von in 15()°C. Der Rückstand wird unter vermindertem Druck
destilliert. Man erhält 35 g 2-Methyl-2-oxo-1,2-oxaphospholan
(Kp1-5: 120°-130°C) und 55 g 2,4-DimethyI-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phospholan
(Kp09jmbar: 150°-
1550C). Die Ausbeute an 2,4-Dimethyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-ji
oxaphospholan beträgt 71% der Theorie.

Zu 58,5 g (0,5 Mol) Methyldichlorphosphin tropft man bei 25°-30°C ein Gemisch aus 52 g (0,5 Mol) 3-Hydroxybuttersäure
und 36 g (0,5 Mol) Acrylsäure, wobei gleichzeitig Chlorwasserstoff entweicht. Anschließend werden unter Wasserstrahlvakuum bis zu
einer Innentemperatur von 1800C 65 g Butyrolacton
abdestilliert. Der Rückstand wird einer Vakuumdestillation unterworfen. Bei Κρο^π,ι,«: 173°-175°C destillieren
53 g 2-Methyl-2,5-dioxo-l,2-oxa-phosphoIan, entsprechend einer Ausbeute von 79% der Theorie.
