Description
Epoxydierte Terpolymere und deren Verwendung
Die Erfindung betrifft epoxydierte Terpolymere, deren funktioneile
Derivate und die Verwendung dieser Verbindungen in Schmierölen wie beispielsweise als Viskositätsindexverbesserer
oder Schlamminhibitoren bzw. -dispergiermittel.
In der US-PS 2 829 135 und den GB-PS 771I 752 und 771I 765 werden
die Epoxydation von Polymeren des Butadiens und Copolymeren des Butadiens mit Styrol beschrieben, wobei in jedem Fall
der überwiegende Anteil der ungesättigten Bindungen der Polymeren in der Hauptkette vorliegt. Die harzartigen Endprodukte
werden zur Herstellung von Oberflächenbeschichtungen verwendet.
In der US-PS 3 388 O67 wird die vorzugsweise in Gegenwart
eines freien Radikalbildners vorgenommene Oxydation von im

wesentlichen gesättigten Copolymeren aus Äthylen und Propylen
an in der Hauptkette vorliegenden Wasserstoffatomen tertiärer
Kohlenstoffe beschrieben. Dabei tritt eine Spaltung der PoIy-
merkette zugleich mit der Bildung von hydroperoxydierten Segmenten geringeren Molekulargewichtes ein. Die nachfolgende
Reduktion der hydroperoxydierten Segmente ergibt ein Polymer mit Hydroxygruppen an der Hauptkette, das als Viskositätsindexverbesserer
verwendet werden kann.
Völlig überraschend wurde jetzt festgestellt, daß im Gegen
satz zum Stand der Technik Terpolymere aus Äthylen, einem oder mehreren «/-Monoolefinen mit 3 bis 8 C-Atomen, vorzugsweise
Propylen, und einem gerade- oder verzweigtkettigen acyclischen oder alicyclischen nichtkonjugierten Diolefin, wobei die aus
den Diolefinen stammenden ungesättigten Stellen des Terpolymers
sich außerhalb der Hauptkette befinden und entweder in an der im wesentlichen gesättigten Hauptkette hängende Seitenketten
oder Teile einer daran anschließenden cyclischen Struktur sind, nach der Epoxydierung oder nach der Epoxydierung und v/eiterer
Umsetzung mit einem austauschbare Wasserstoffe zur Bildung eines funktioneilen Adduktes aufweisendem Reagens, Endprodukte
mit der gleichen Kettenlänge wie das ursprüngliche Terpolyner ergeben. Die öllöslichen epoxydierten Terpolymere oder ihre
funktionellen Addukte sind bei der Verwendung in Schmierölen
ausgezeichnete Viskositätsindexverbesserer, Schlamminhibitoren
und wirken als Neutralisationsmittel für entstehende Acidität.

Die Erfindung betrifft somit ep'oxydierte Terpolymere aus Äthylen,
C^-Cg-oi-olefinen und nichtkonjugierten Dienen sowie deren
funktioneile Addukte mit Verbindungen, die ein austauschbares Wasserstoffatom aufweisen, das in Gegenwart eines sauren oder
basischen Katalysators mit einem Oxiran ein funktionelles Addukt bildet. Weiterhin betrifft die Erfindung die Verwendung
der öllöslichen epoxyierten Terpolymere oder ihrer funktioneilen Derivate als Zusatzstoffe für Schmiermittel und zwar insbesondere
als Schlamminhibitoren und Viskositätsindexverbesserer in Mineralölen und als Schlamminhibitoren in Vergaserkraftstoffen und
Heizölen.
Die zur Bildung der erfindungsgemäßen epoxydierten Terpolymere verwendbaren Ausgangsverbindungen enthalten mindestens 30 Moli
und vorzugsweise nicht mehr als 85 Mol? Äthylen, etwa 15 wie beispielsweise I1J,5 bis etwa 70 wie beispielsweise 69j5 Moli
eines höheren o£-01efins oder einer Mischung von o6-Olefinen,
vorzugsweise Propylen, und etwa 0,5 bis 20 und vorzugsweise 1 bis 15 Mol/S eines nichtkonjugierten Diolefins oder einer
Mischung von Diolefinen. Besonders bevorzugt werden Polymere
mit etwa 10 bis 70 Moli Äthylen, 20 bis 58 MoU höheren Monoolefinen
und 2 bis 10 Mol? Diolefinen. Bezogen auf Gewichtsbasis macht das Diolefin mindestens 2 oder 3 Gew.% des gesamten
Terpolymers aus.

Terpolymere aus Äthylen, Propylen und nichtkonjugierten Diolefinen
sind bekannte handelsübliche Verbindungen, wobei die Herstellung typischer Terpolymere unter Verwendung von Ziegler-Natta-Katalysatoren
beispielsweise gemäß US-PS 2 933 480, 3
000 866 oder 3 093 621 erfolgen kann. Diese Terpolymere werden in erster Linie zur Verwendung in elastomeren Mischungen
hergestellt und sind durch die Abwesenheit von ungesättigten Stellen in der Hauptkette oder dem sogenannten "Rückgrat" des
Polymers gekennzeichnet; die ungesättigten Stellen befinden sich in Gruppen, die an der Hauptkette hängen oder liegen in
cyclischen Strukturen außerhalb der Hauptkette vor. Durch diese Struktur werden die Polymere besonders widerstandsfähig
gegen Zersetzung durch atmosphärische Oxydation oder Ozon.
Geeignete Terpolymere zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen
epoxydierten Produkte enthalten Äthylen, ein gerad- oder verzweigtkettiges (/--Olefin mit 3 bis 8 C-Atomen und ein nichtkonjugiertes
Diolefin. Als drittes Monomer in dem Terpolymer können als nicht-konjugierte Diolefine beispielsweise folgende
Verbindungen vorliegen:
A) Geradkettige acyclische Diene wie !,^I-Hexadien, 1,5-Heptadien
oder 1,6-Octadien;

B) verzweigtkettige acyclische Diene wie 5-Methyl-l,1J-hexadien,
3,7-Dimethyl-l,6-octadien, 3>7-Dimethyl-l,7-octadien oder
gemischte Isomere des Dihydromyrcen und Dihydroocimen;
C) alicyclische Diene mit einem einzigen Ring wie 1,4-Cyclohexadien,
1,5-Cyclooctadien, 1,5-Cyclododecadien, 4-Vinylcyclohexen,
l-Allyl-Jl-isopropyliden-cyclohexan, 3-Allylcyclopenten,
M-Allyl-cyclohexen und lbutenyl)-cyclohexan.
D) alicyclische Diene mit mehreren Ringen wie pentenyl- und 4,4'-Dicyclohexenyl-diene.
E) alicyclische Diene mit mehreren kondensierten oder über Brücken verbundenen Ringen wie Tetrahydroinden, Methyltetrahydroinden,
Dicyclopentadien, Bicyclo-(2,2,l)-hepta-2,5-dien, Alkenyl-, Alkyliden-, Cycloalkenyl- und Cycloalkyliden-norbornene
wie 5~Methylen-2-norbornen, 5-Äthyliden-2-norbornen,
5-Methylen-6-methyl-2-norbornen, 5-Methylen-6,6-dimethyl-2-norbornen,
5~Propenyl-2-norbornen, 5~(3~Cyclopentenyl)-2-norbornen
und 5-Cyclohexyliden-2-norbornen.
Die Terpolymere enthalten im allgemeinen nichtkonjugierte
Diolefine mit 5 bis 1Ί C-Atomen und zeigen ein durch Viskosität
bestimmtes mittleres Molekulargewicht (Mv) von 10.000 bis

1.000.000 wie beispielsweise von 20.000 bis 200.000 bei Bestimmung
in Decalin-als Lösungsmittel und 135°C. Die Molekulargewichtsverteilung
der verwendbaren Terpolymere ist vorzugsweise schmal mit einem Verhältnis von durchschnittlichem
Gewichts- zu durchschnittlichem theoretischen Molekulargewicht von weniger als 15 und vorzugsweise weniger als 10.
Die erfindungsgemäß zur Umwandlung in Epoxide und deren funktioneile Derivate geeigneten Terpolymere können strukturell
als statistische Terpolymere mit verschiedenen nichtkonjugier-
ten Dienmonomeren dargestellt werden, wobei jeweils die fol genden Einheiten in statistischer Folge und in verschiedener
Zahl zu einer Polymerkette verknüpft sind:

In diesen Formeln bedeuten x, y und ζ ganze Zahlen und zwar meist im Bereich von etwa 1 bis 100. Bei oberflächlicher Betrachtung
sind diese Terpolymere im wesentlichen amorph, wie sich aber aus Messungen mit Röntgenstrahlen oder Differential-Abtastcalorimetrie
(DSC) ergibt, können sie bis etwa 25 Gew.% kristalline Segmente enthalten. Verfahren zur Messung der
Kristallinität sind detailliert in der Veröffentlichung von G. Ver Strate und Z. W. Wilchinsky in J. Polymer Sei. Ä-2, 9,
127 (1971) beschrieben. Bei der Epoxydierung bilden sich an allen oder einem Teil der ungesättigten Stellen, die an den
Fornein als Doppelbindungen dargestellt sind, Oxirane.
Im Handel erhältliche Terpolymere mit dem oben in den Strukturformeln
angegebenen Grad an Hichtsättigung und den erforderlichen Molekulargewichten können zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen
epoxidierten Terpolymere durch auflösen des Polymers in einem geeigneten Lösungsmittel vor der Epoxydierung verwendet werden.
Bequemer und wirtschaftlicher jedoch ist die Epoxydierung der

Terpolymere, so lange sie noch in "Zement"-Form sind, das heißt
also so, wie sie normalerweise in der Polyraersynthese gewonnen werden. Da die in der Ziegler-Natta-Synthese zum Lösen oder
Dispergieren der Katalysatorkomponenten und Terpolyrcerreaktions· produkte verwendeten Lösungsmittel ebenfalls für die Epoxydierungsreaktion
geeignet sind, ist der Einsatz eines deaktivierten, von Katalysatorrückständen befreiten Polymerzementes aus
der Synthesereaktion besonders günstig.
Geeignete Lösungsmittel stammen im allgemeinen aus der Gruppe der olefinfreien Erdöl-Kohlenwasserstoffe, Aromaten und
halogenierten Kohlenwasserstoffe. Verwendet werden können beispielsweise C1- bis C_ - gesättigte alicyclische oder Cg bis
Cq - aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, vorzugsv/eise gerade- oder
verzweigtkettige gesättigte Kohlenwasserstoffe mit 12 oder weniger C-Atomen, oder halogenierte Kohlenwasserstoffe mit
2 bis 6 C-Atomen. Geeignete Verbindungen sind beispielsweise Pentan, Cyclopentan, n- und Isohexan, Heptan, Isooctan, Methylcyclopentan,
Benzol, Toluol, gemischte Xylole, Dichloräthan, Trichloräthan, o-Dichlorbenzol oder deren Mischungen.
Bei der Umwandlung des Terpolymers zu dem entsprechenden Epoxid können je nach der Viskosität der entstehenden Lösung und des
zur Epoxydierung eingesetzten Mittels Konzentrationen von etwa 1 bis 10 Gew.* des Terpolymers im Lösungsmittel eingesetzt
werden.

Zur Durchführung der Epoxydierung können zahlreiche Reagentien
und Verfahren Einsatz finden. Derartige Reagentien und Verfahren sind in einer nicht vollständigen Liste beispielsweise in
"Organic Reactions", Band 7, Seite 378, von Daniel Swern,
John Wiley and Sons, New York, 1953, beschrieben. Das jeweils verwendete Reagenz oder die eingesetzte Methode hängen von
der bequemen Durchführbarkeit und wirtschaftlichen Erwägungen ab und sind in keiner Weise durch die Beschreibung oder die
angegebenen Beispiele begrenzt. Geeignete Reagentien sind beispielsweise Perbenzoesäure, m-Chlorperbenzoesäure, Peressigsäure,
Trifluor-peressigsäure, Monoperphthalsäure, Perameisensäure, Wasserstoffperoxid/Essigsäure oder Wasserstoffperoxid/
Ameisensäure.
Meist werden etwa 10 bis 100 % und vorzugsweise 1IO bis 98 %
der Doppelbindungen des Terpolymers in Oxirangruppen umgewandelt. Da es für praktische Zwecke unwirtschaftlich ist, die Umwandlung
sämtlicher Doppelbindungen des Terpolymermoleküls in Oxirangruppen anzustreben, kann beispielsweise die Struktur
eines bestimmten epoxydierten Terpolymers wie folgt wiedergegeben werden:

In der Formel bedeutet χ eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 100 für
in der Terpolymerkette vorliegende Äthylen- oder Polyäthyleneinheiten, s eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 100 für in der Terpolymerkette
vorliegende epoxydierte 5-Äthyliden-2-norbornen- - oder epoxydierte Poly-(5-äthyliden-2-norbornen)-Einheiten,
y eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis etwa 100 für in der Terpolymerkette vorliegende Propylen- oder 'Polypropyleneinheiten, ζ eine
ganze Zahl von 0 bis etwa 100 für in der Terpolymerkette vor der Epoxydierung vorliegende 5-Äthyliden-2-norbornen- oder
Poly-(5-äthyliden-2-norbornen)-Einheiten, wobei die Summe von 8 und ζ im Bereich von 1 bis 100 sein kann. Der numerische
Wert für s, x, y und ζ in der Formel gibt nicht die Gesamtzahl aller in der Terpolymerkette vorhandenen Einheiten eines bestimmten
Monomers an, sondern diese Zahlen sind Durchschnittswerte für die jeweiligen Monomere, die als Einheitsblock in
der Polymerkette vorliegen.
Punktionelle Addukte dieser epoxydierten Terpolymere können
einfach durch Umsetzung der epoxydierten Terpolymere mit funktio· nellen Reagentien in Gegenwart eines sauren oder basischen
Katalysators hergestellt werden. Je nach verwendetem Katalysator kann die Reaktion eines Oxirans mit einem nucleophilen
Reagens in zwei Richtungen verlaufen; in Gegenwart eines sauren Katalysators wird das Oxiran protoniert und kann sich dann

schnell mit einem schwach nucleophilen Reagens umsetzen, während in Gegenwart eines basischen Katalysators das nichtprotonierte
Epoxyd schnell von einem stärker nucleophilen Reagens angegriffen wird. In jedem Fall entsteht ein difunktionelles
Umsetzungsprodukt wie sich aus den folgenden Formeln ergibt:

Geeignete funktioneile Reagentien sind beispielsweise Wasser, C1 bis C^g Alkohole, C1 bis C1Q - vorzugsweise Cp bis C12 monobasische

oder ähnliche Verbindungen. In bevorzugten Ausführungsformen

können beispielsweise verzweigte oder nichtverzweigte, gesättigte,
aliphatische, aromatische, primäre, sekundäre oder tertiäre C1 bis C.j, Alkohole, insbesondere Monoalkohole einschließlich
Ätheralkohole eingesetzt werden. Besonders bevorzugt werden Polyalkohole mit 1 bis 6 Hydroxygruppen und Aminoalkohole.
Derartige Verbindungen sind beispielsweise Methanol, Isopropanol, Cg-Oxoalkohol, Laurylalkohol, Benzylalkohol,
Äthylenglycol, Triäthylenglycol-monododecylather, Glycerin, Pentaerythritol, Glucose, Dipentaerythritol, Sorbitol, Diäthanoiamin
oder Verbindungen der Handelsmarken "Cellosolve" oder "Carbitol".
Die verwendeten C1 bis C.«, vorzugsweise C„ bis C12 monobasischen
Säuren können verzweigte oder nichtverzweigte, gesättigte, aliphatische Monocarbonsäuren, vorzugsweise gesättigte Fettsäuren
wie beispielsweise Essigsäure, Buttersäure, Caprinsäure, Laurinsäure und ähnliche Verbindungen sein.
Als C1 bis C1Q Amine können verzweigte oder nichtverzweigte
gesättigte, aliphatische, primäre oder sekundäre Amine mit 1 bis 8 Stickstoffatomen eingesetzt werden, und zwar vorzugsweise
Mono- oder Diamine. Geeignete Verbindungen sind beispielsweise Äthylamin, Butylamin, sec.-Butylamin, Diäthylamin oder
höhere Polyamine wie Alkylenpolyamine, in denen die Stickstoffatome durch Alkylengruppen mit 2 bis H Kohlenstoffatomen ver-

bunden sind, wie Polyamine der Formel NH2(CHg)n-[NH(CH2) In-NH2,
in der η 2 bis 4 und m 0 bis 6 bedeuten. Derartige Polyamine sind beispielsweise Tetraäthylen-pentamin, Tripropylen-tetramin,
N-Aminoalkyl-piperazine wie N-(2-Aminoäthyl)-piperazin, Ν,Ν'-Di-(2-aminoäthyl)-piperazin
und ähnliche Verbindungen. Besonders bevorzugt werden Cj. bis C.g-NjN-Dialkylamino-alkylendiamine
wie N,N-Dimethyl-l,3-propan-diamin oder ähnliche Verbindungen.
Ebenfalls günstig einsetzbar sind Tetraäthylen-pentamin oder die entsprechenden handelsüblichen Mischungen wie "Polyamine H"
oder "Polyamine 500".
Die Cp bis C.g-Amide können Monoamide aus den aufgeführten
Aminen und monobasischen Säuren mit einer Gesamtzahl der C-Atome in der Amidgruppierung von etwa 2 bis 18 sein. r
Die verv/endbaren Alkylphenole oder -thiophenole enthalten 1 bis Ί, vorzugsweise durchschnittlich 1 bis 2 Alkylgruppen und in
jeder Alkylgruppe in gerader oder verzweigter Kette 1 bis 12 C-Atome; derartige Verbindungen sind beispielsweise Cresol,
n-Octylphenol, Di-n-octy!phenol, Monoisobutyl-thiophenol und
ähnliche Verbindungen. Die C1 bis C^g Alkylmercaptane können
verzweigt- oder geradekettige Alkylgruppen aufweisen, wie beispielsweise Äthylmercaptan, n-Octylmercaptan, Isooctylmercaptan,
Laury!mercaptan und ähnliche Verbindungen.

Meist werden etwa 0,1 bis 1 Mol dieser funktionellen Verbindungen
je Mol Epoxid im Terpolymer umgesetzt. Bei Verwendung von polyfunktionellen
Reagentien wie Polyaminen .oder Polyolen werden vorzugsweise 0,5 bis 1,0 wie 0,8 oder 1,0 molare Mengen der
polyfunktionellen Verbindung verwendet, um ein Vernetzen zwischen den Polymerketten und damit die Bildung von ölunlöslichen
Anteilen gering zu halten. Bei Terpolymeren mit einem niedrigeren Molekulargewicht und/oder einem geringeren Anteil an Eypoxid-
gruppen im Molekül stellt das Vernetzen meist kein Problem dar -, so daß verhältnismäßig geringe Mengen der polyfunktionellen
Verbindungen wie beispielsweise Tetraäthylen-pentamin bezogen auf den molaren Anteil an vorhandenen Epoxidgruppen eingesetzt
werden können. Wenn andererseits das Ausgangsterpolymer ein hohes Molekulargewicht und/oder einen hohen Anteil an Epoxidgruppen
aufweist, muß ein verhältnismäßig sehr großer molarer Anteil oder sogar ein molarer Überschuß, beispielsweise ein
10 Ziger Überschuß, der polyfunktionellen Verbindung eingesetzt werden, um ein zu starkes Vernetzen sowie ein eventuelles
Gelieren und damit ölunlöslichkeit zu verhindern. In jedem Fall ist das erwünschte Endprodukt ein öllösliches Produkt,
das sich beispielsweise zu mindestens 0,1 Gew.% in üblichen Mineralschmierölen löst.
Die epoxydierten Terpolymere können mit verschiedenen Mischungen mit einem wechselnden Gehalt an polyfunktionellen Verbindungen

wie beispielsweise mit Mischungen aus Alkoholen und Aminen umgesetzt
werden. Außerdem können die erwähnten funktioneilen Reagentien weitere Substituenten aufweisen, die nicht mit den
Oxirangruppen reagieren und die die Reaktion der,funktioneilen Gruppe mit den Oxirangruppen nicht behindern.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Terpolymere und deren Addukte können in Schmierölmischungen wie beispielsweise in Kurbelgehäuseschmieröle
für Automobile in Mengen von etwa 0,1 bis 10 wie 0,1 bis 3 Gew.i, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Gesamtmischung, eingearbeitet
werden. Zu den mit den erfindungsgemäßen Zusatzstoffen zu versetzenden Schmierölen gehören nicht nur die Mineralschmieröle,
sondern auch synthetische öle. Als Basisöle können synthetische Kohlenwasserstoffschmieröle ebenso wie synthetische
Niehtkohlenwasserstoffsehmieröle eingesetzt werden wie Ester dibasischer Säuren wie Di-2-äthylhexyl-sebacat, Carbonatester,
Phosphatester, halogenierte Kohlenwasserstoffe, PoIysilicone,
Polyglycole oder Glycolester wie beispielsweise Diester von C. ,-Oxosäuren und Tetraäthylenglycol. Bei Zusatz zu
Vergaserkraftstoffen oder Heizölen wie beispielsweise Dieselöl, oder Heizöl Nr. 2 werden meist etwa 0,001 bis 0,5 Gew.?, bezogen
auf die Gesamtmischung, zugesetzt. Zur besseren Handhabbarkeit können auch Konzentrate aus einen kleineren Anteil wie
beispielsweise 10 bis ^5 Gew.% der erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen
in einem größeren Anteil eines Kohlenwasserstoffver-

dünnungsmittels wie beispielsweise 95 bis 55 Gew.? eines
Mineralschmieröls mit oder ohne Zusatz weiterer Additive hergestellt werden.
Die Schmierölmischungen oder -konzentrate können andere übliche
Zusatzstoffe enthalten wie Farbstoffe, Stockpunkterniedriger, Mittel zur Verbesserung des Lasttragevermögens, wie Tricresylphosphat,
Zink-dialkyl-dithiophosphate mit 3 bis 8 C-Atomen, Antioxidantien wie Phenyl-06-naphthylamin, t-Octylphenolsulfid,
Bisphenole wie ^,i4'-Methylen-bis-(2,6-di-t-butyl-phenol),
Viskositätsindexverbesserer wie Copolymere aus Äthylen und höheren Olefinen, Polymethacrylate, Polyisobutylen, Copolymere
aus Alkylfumarat und Vinylacetat und ähnliche Verbindungen sowie andere aschefreie Schlamminhibitoren oder Detergentien.
Die Erfindung wird im folgenden anhand der Beispiele näher erläutert.
30 g eines Äthylen-propylen-(5-äthyliden-2-norbornen)-terpolymeren
mit einem Gehalt an 49 Gew.j£ Äthylen, *J7,5 Gew.Ji Propylen
und 3>5 Gew.? 5-Äthyliden-2-norbornen und einem durch Viskosität
bestimmten·mittleren Molekulargewicht (M ) von 150.000 wurden in einem 1-Liter-Kolben mit Rührer, Tropftrichter und Thermometer
in 800 ml Chloroform gelöst. Eine Lösung von 1,96 g

m-Chlorperbenzoesäure (85 $ige Reinheit) in 1IO ml Chloroform
wurde im Verlauf einer halben Stunde tropfenweise der gerührten Polymerlösung zugesetzt. Während der Zugabe stieg die
die Umsetzung anzeigende Reaktionstemperatur der Mischung von
25°C auf 28°C an. Die homogene Lösung wurde über Nacht (l6 Stunden)
stehengelassen und dann langsam unter kräftigem Rühren in 1J Liter Methanol eingegossen. Das ausgefallene Produkt wurde
auf einem Buchner-Trichter abfiltriert, mit einer weiteren Menge Methanol gewaschen und unter Vakuum getrocknet. Die Ausbeute
an getrocknetem Produkt betrug 29,2 g (aufgrund einiger mechanischer Verluste). Die Verbindung zeigte eine starke
Absorptionsbande bei 8,0.um und zwei mäßig ausgeprögte Absorptionsbanden
bei 11,2 und 12.um im IR-Spektrum, wodurch die Anwesenheit von Oxiranfunktionalitäten aufgezeigt wurde. Die
Analyse ergab einen Sauerstoffgehalt von 0,55 Gew.*.
Das in Beispiel 1 beschriebene Verfahren wurde unter Verwendung von 30 g eines Terpolymeren mit einem Gehalt an Ί5 Gew.J
Äthylen, 46 Gew.? Propylen, 9,0 Gew.% 5~Äthyliden-2-norbornen
und einem M von I65.OOO wiederholt. Zu dem in 8OO ml Chloroform
gelösten Terpolymer wurde eine Lösung von 5,02 g m-Chlorperbenzoesäure
in 50 ml Chloroform zugesetzt. Das epoxyierte Terpolymer wurde nach den in Beispiel 1 beschriebenen Angaben
aufgearbeitet und isoliert. Die Ausbeute an Endprodukt betrug

27,6 g. Dieses Produkt zeigte bei 8,0, 11,2 und 12.um Absorptionsbanden
im IR-Spektrum und wies einen Sauerstoffgehalt von 1,15 Gew.? auf.
3 g des in Beispiel 1 erhaltenen epoxydierten Produktes wurden
mit 0,50 g N,N-Dimethyl-l,3-propandiamin, 0,004 g p-Toluol-
sulfonsäure und 50 ml !^,^-Trichlorbenzol in einem 200 ml-
Kolben vermischt, der mit einem Rückflußkühler und einem Stickstoffeinleitungsrohr versehen war. Die Mischung wurde
nach 7-stündigem Erhitzen auf eine Temperatur von 170 bis 175°C unter Stickstoff auf Raumtemperatur abgekühlt und in Methanol
aufgearbeitet. Die Reinigung erfolgte durch Wiederauflösen in
Toluol und nochmaligem Niederschlagen in Methanol. Die Analyse des getrockneten mit einer Ausbeute von 2,68 g erhaltenen
Produktes zeigte einen Stickstoffgehalt von 0,16 Gew. 55.
Beispiel

Das im Beispiel 3 beschriebene Verfahren wurde mit dem Endprodukt
aus Beispiel 2 wiederholt. 3 g des epoxydierten Produktes aus Beispiel 2, 1,0 g N,N-Dimethyl-l,3-propandiamin, 0,004 g
p-Toluolsulfonsäure und 50 ml !^,^-Trichlorbenzol wurden unter
einer Stickstoffatmosphäre 7 Stunden auf 170 bis 175°C erwärmt. Das ausgefallene trockene Produkt wog 2,69 g und wies in der
Analyse einen Stickstoffgehalt von 0,20 Gew.? auf.

Die epoxydlerten Terpolymere aus Beispiel 1 und 2 und die
funktioaellen Äddttkte aus Beispiel 3 und 4 wurden zu, 10 gew. Jtigen
Konzentraten in Solvent i:5Q Neutral Oil verarbeitet, wobei
dieses Lösungsmittel ein paraffinisches neutrales lösungsraittelextrahiertes
öl mit einer Viskosität bei Bestimmung gemäft
ASTM-D-567 vom 150 Sayboldt-Sekunden bei 37*8°C ist. Aliquote
Teile der Konzentrate wurden in einem gebrauchten Kurbelgehäusemineralschmieröl
für Automobile aufgelöst und auf ihre Fähigkeit, Schlamm im dispergierten Zustand zu halten in einem
Schlamminhibitionstest untersucht.
Die verwendeten Konzentrationen sind in Tabelle 1 angegeben. Nach dem Auflösen der epoxydierten Polymere wurden die Proben
16 Stunden auf 138 +1,10C erwärmt. Nach dieser Zeit wurde die
Menge des durch den Zusatzstoff nicht dispergierten Schlammes durch 30-minütiges Zentrifugieren der Proben bei 2000 U/min
festgestellt. Das öl wurde sorgfältig von dem Schlamm abgegossen» dieser wurde dann zweimal mit 25 cm n-Pentan gewaschen. Nach
dem Waschen wurde der Schlamm bei Raumtemperatur bis zum konstanten Gewicht getrocknet (etwa 1 Stunde). Außerdem wurden
Leerversuche mit gebrauchtem öl ohne Zusatzstoffe durchgeführt, um die Gesamtmenge des Schlammes zu bestimmen. Der
prozentuale Anteil des durch die Additive dispergierten Schlammes wurde dann berechnet und ist in Tabelle 1 angegeben:

Diese Resultate zeigen die Wirksamkeit der erfindungsgemäßen Polymere zur Dispersion des Schlammes, da ohne Zusatz kein
Schlamm dispergiert wird.
Die in den Beispielen 3 und 4 hergestellten funktionellen Addukte der epoxydierten Polymere wurden in Solvent 150
Neutral Oil, einem üblichen Mineralschnieröl, auf Wirksamkeit
als Viskositätsindexverbesserer geprüft. Die Resultate sind in Tabelle 2 angegeben:

(1) Die Verdickungswirkung wird definiert als das Verhältnis der Gewichtsprozente Enjay Chemical Co. Paratone N (ein Polyisobutylen
mit M 125.000 bei Bestimmung in Diisobutylen bei 20°C entsprechend der Abhängigkeit^]= 36 χ 10~5 χ Μν°ϊ6ί|,
die zum Verdicken von Solvent 150 Neutral Oil zu einer Viskosität von 12,Ί cSt bei 98,9°C benötigt werden, zum Gewicht des
zum Eindicken des gleichen Öls bei der angegebenen Viskosität und der angegebenen Temperatur benötigten zu untersuchenden
Polymers.
Wie sich aus der Tabelle entnehmen läßt, können die öllöslichen epoxydierten Terpolymere oder ihre funktioneilen Addukte als
Schlamminhibitoren für Kurbelgehäuseöle für Automobile und ebenfalls als Neutralisierungsmittel für die Acidität in den
damit versetzten Schmiermitteln verwendet v/erden.
Die epoxydierten Terpolymere und ihre funktioneilen Addukte
sind mit neutralen ölen, worunter paraffinische oder naphtheni-

sehe Destillatschnieröle mit Viskositäten von etwa 50 bis 1.000
Sayboldt-Sekunden bei 37>8°C, verstanden werden, oder mit synthetischen Schmiermitteln, insbesondere des Estertyps, verträglich
und bilden mit diesen bei wirksamen Konzentrationen von etwa 0,1 bis 10 Gew. % Lösungen ohne wesentliche Violkenbildung.
Die neutralen öle können durch an sich bekannte Verfahren raffiniert sein und können außerdem mit Antioxidantien,
Haftfähigkeitsverbesserern oder ähnlichen Zusatzstoffen versetzt werden.

Claims (1)
- Patentansprüche1-. Epoxydierte Terpolymere aus Äthylen, einem C, bis Cg-06-Olefin und nichtkonjugierten Dienen.2. Epoxydierte Terpolymere nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als o£-01efin Propylen vorliegt.3· Epoxydierte Terpolymere nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als nichtkonjugiertes Dien Ι,Ί-Hexandien, Dxcyclopentadien, 5-Methylen-2-norbornen, 5~Äthyliden-2-norbornen oder 5-Propenyl-2-norbcrnen vorliegt.Ί.
