Zeit hergestellten Zigaretten gewöhnlich Mischungen aus Virginia-, Maryland- oder Kentucky-Tabak in Kombination mit orientalischem oder türkischem Tabak.
Die entsprechenden Verhältnisse der verschiedenen Tabakarten werden zur Erzielung des gewünschten besonderen Geschmackes und Aromas variiert. Üblicherweise werden auch noch Aromasubstanzen und Mittel zur Verleihung bzw. Bewahrung der Feuchtigkeit als Zusätze zu diesen Tabakmischungen verwendet, um die organoleptischen Eigenschaften weiter zu verstärken.
Ein zweckmäßiges Verfahren zur Aromatisierung von Tabak besteht im Besprühen desselben mit einer alkoholischen Lösung der Verbindungen oder Aromamischungen. Es können auch Kombinationen von ιοί 5 sungsmitteln, wie Alkohol und Propylenglykol, verwendet werden.
Die Anteile der obengenannten Verbindungen — allein oder in einer Aromakomposition verwendet — können in weiten Grenzen variieren. Sie hängen hauptsäch-Hch von den besonderen, gewünschten organoleptischen Effekten und vom Ursprung der Tabakproduktc ab, zu welchen sie zugegeben wird. Interessante Aromawirkungen kann man z. B. mit Mengen zwischen 1 — 1000 ppm, bezogen auf das Gewicht des Tabakproduktes, erzielen. Besondere Effekte lassen sich jedoch auch mit Verhältnissen bis zu 5 oder sogar 10% erreichen. Vorzugsweise werden im allgemeinen jedoch Verhältnisse zwischen etwa 10—200 ppm verwendet.
In allen Fällen können die obengenannten Bereiche in Abhängigkeit von den besonderen gewünschten geruchstragenden oder Aromatisierungswirkungen variiert werden.
sind aus HeIv. Chim. Acta, 51, 494 (1968), bekannt. Es wurde nun gefunden, daß diese Verbindungen besondere organoleptische Eigenschaften besitzen und zur Verbesserung, Verstärkung oder Modifizierung der Geschmacks- und Aromaeigenschaften von Tabakprodukten verwendet werden können.
Bekanntlich besteht der z. B. zur Herstellung von Zigaretten verwendete Tabak im wesentlichen aus einer Mischung unterschiedlicher Tabakarten, die den im gebildeten Tabakrauch gewünschten charakteristischen Geschmack und Aroma ergeben. So enthalten die zur
Beispiel
1,5 bzw. 2,5 g einer l°/oigen alkoholischen Lösung aus dem obengenannten Caryophyllenepoxid (in 95%igem Ethylalkohol) wurden auf 100 g einer American-blend-Tabakmischung gesprüht. Der so aromatisierte Tabak wurde zur Herstellung von Testzigaretten verwendet, deren Rauch einer organoleptischen Auswertung im Vergleich mit nicht-aromatisierten Zigaretten (»Kontrolle«) unterworfen wurde. Der zur Herstellung der Kontrollzigaretten verwendete Tabak war vorher mit 95%igem Ethylalkohol behandelt worden.
Ein Expertengremium stellte einstimmig fest, daß der Geschmack der Testzigarette im Vergleich zu der Kontrollzigarette eine »holzige« Aromanote besaß. Sie hatten eine an Orienttabake erinnernde Note und zeigten ein an Zigarrenrauch erinnerndes Aroma.
Wurde der Versuch mit 2,5 oder 5,0 g eines der beiden oben beschriebenen Caryophyllenalkoholen wiederholt, so wurden ähnliche Ergebnisse erzielt.
