Geschwefelte Triisobutylen Schmieröl-Additive und Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung
Geschwefelte Isobutylene und Polyisobutylene sind seit langem
als Schmieröl-Additive bekannt. Sie stellen ein komplexes Gemisch dar, das theoretisch in der Hauptsache 4,5-Dialkyl-1,2-dithiol-3-thion-Verbindungen
und in kleineren Anteilen Sulfide, polymere schwefelsubstituierte Verbindungen und
Mercaptane enthält. Eine Klasse dieser geschwefelten Olefrue
und Polyolefine hat sich als hochdruckbeständiges Nittel für Schmieröle, etwa Getriebe- und Schneidöle, als wertvoll
erwiesen. Diese Getriebe-Schneidöle (gear and cutting oils) sind paraffin- und naphthenbasische Öle mit einer Viskosität
von etwa 100 - 2500 SUS (= Saybolt Universal Seconds) bei 37,80C (= 10O0F). Damit das geschwefelte Polyolefin als
Hochdruck-(EP)-Additiv wirksam wird, muß sein Schwefelanteil in einem chemisch aktiven Zustand sein. Chemisch inaktivo
geschwefelte Olefine werden hauptsächlich als Antioxydans-Additive in Kurbelgehäusen von Motoren verwandt, wo di©

damit in Berührung kommenden Metalle gegen Korrosion sehr
empfindlich sind, und dürfen daher keinen aktiven Schwefel " enthalten.
Die Zusammensetzung ier alo geschwefelte Polyolefine "bekannten
Verbindungen wird in "lohem Maße von den besonderen Herstellungsbedingungen
betbimmt, so daß das "geschwefelte Polyolefin"
durch das Herstellungsverfahren am besten gekennzeichnet wird.
* TSins der Probleme der aus geschwefelten Olefinen aufgebauten
-Jiochdruckbeständigen Schmieröl-Additive besteht darin, daß
das Produkt soviel aktiven Schwefel enthalten soll, daß es Tiie geforderte Druckbeständigkoit verleiht, trotzdem jedoch
gegen Kupfer verhältnismäßig unempfindlich bleibt, d.h., eine Kupferstreifen-Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit von weniger
als etwa 4 A (3 h bei 121,1°C) bei Konzentrationen von etwa
1 Gew.-% zeigt. Dieser Kupferstreifen-Test nach ASTM D-IJO-56
ist ein Maß für die Korrosivität des Additivs gegenüber Metallen, insbesondere Kupfer.
Aus 'der USA-PS 2.995-569 ist die Herstellung eines gesc'iwe-L
feiten Triisobutylens bekannt, das nicht-korrosiv und exn ausgezeichnetes Antioxydans für Motorenöle ist, also inaktiven
Schwefel enthält. Nach diesem Verfahren werden Schwefel und Triisobutylen bei einer Temperatur von etwa
177 - 2160C und einem Molverhältnis Triisobutylen zu Schwefel
von etwa 1:5 (was etwa dem1 stöchiometrischen Molverhältnis
entspricht) unter Atmosphärendruck umgesetzt. In der PS ist erwähnt, daß ein Arbeiten unter Überdruck Korrosivität verursacht.
Ferner sind in dieser USA-PS verschiedene Maßnahmen zur Vermeid-xng der Korrosivität in Verbindung mit dem Atmosphärendruck
aufgezählt, nämlich das Waschen des Produkts mit NaOH oder Na~S oder eine Behandlung des geschwefelten Triisobutylens
mit Diispbutylen. Me Durchführung dieses Verfahrens
bei annähernd atmosphärischem Druck erfordert über-

dies wesentlich längere Reaktionsdauer für ein äquivaltentes Produkt als bei Überdruckbedingungen.
Es wurde.nun ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines geschwefelten
Olefins gefunden, dao ausgezeiclinete Hochdruckbeständigkeit
bei wesentlich verringerter Kupferstreifen-Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit
besitzt -ond das weder beim Lagern auskristallisiert
noch eine Extraktionsbehandlung mit HapS zur Erlangung
einer annehmbaren Eupferboständigkeit erfordert. Diese überlegenenoiund
unerwarteten Eigenschaften werden erhalten durch eine besondere Kombination von Ausgangsstoffen, Arbeitsbedingungen
und Schrittfolgen.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines hochdruckbeständigen Additivs für Schmieröle, das aus
geschwefeltem Triisobutylen besteht und verringerte Korrosivität gegen Kupfer besitzt, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man
Triisobutylen mit Schwefel bei einer Temperatur von etwa 182 - 2600C, einem Druck von etwa 0-7 atü und einem Molverhältnis
Triisobutylen zu Schwefel von etwa 1 : 5 1 : 2,5 umsetzt, ein Inertgas wenigstens für eine Spanne der
Reaktionszeit durch das Reaktionsgemisch bläst, die Umsetzung fortführt, bis der Gehalt von freiem Schwefel im Reaktionsgemisch weniger als 0,3 Gew.-% beträgt und schließlich das
geschwefelte Triisobutylen aus den Reaktionsgemisch gewinnt, wobei das Inertgas während der Umsetzung durch das Reaktionsgemisch geblasen wird, sobald der Druck 1,05 atü überschreitet,

Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ferner ein geschwefeltes Triisobutylen,
hergestellt nach einem der Ansprüche 1-10 und gekennzeichret durch ein spezifisches Gewicht bei 15j6/i5j6
0C von etwa Ί,12 - 1,13, eine kinematische Viskosität bei
37,8°C von 60 - 100 cSt, einen Schwefelgehalt von etwa 31 »5 40,0
Gew.-%, einen Gehalt an freiem Schwefel von weniger als

0,3 Gew.-%, ein Gehalt an in Aceton unlöslichen Bestandteilen
von weniger als 0,01 Gew.-% und ein sittleres Molgewicht von'
wenigstens etwa 260.
Schließlich ist Gegenstand der Erfindung die Verwendung des nach einem der Ansprüche 1-10 hergestellten geschwefelten
iriisobutylens in einem Schmieröl, das aus einem Kohlenwasserstoff-Grundöl
mit einer Viskosität von etwa 100 - 2500
SUS (Saybolt Universal Seconds) "bei 37580G besteht, in einem
Anteil von etwa 0,3 - 10 Gew.-%.
3ei der bevorzugten Ausführuiigsform des neuen Verfahrens werden
Triisobutylen und Schwefel im oben beschriebenen Molverliältnis
zunächst vermischt, gewöhnlich "bei etwa 10 - 1500C,
und die Temperatur wird dann ,für die Dauer der Umsetzung erhöht, vorzugsweise auf etwa I90 - 240°0, Zumindest während
einer Spanne der Umsetsungsdauer wird ein Inertgas durch das Gemisch geblasen, zweckmäßig mit einer Geschwindigkeit von
-etwa 0,081 - 5,37ώ Ul/h und pro-0,454 te Semisch (0,003 0,2
Standard Cubic Feet per Hour per Pound). Die Umsetzung wird gewöhnlich fortgeführt, bis der Gehalt an freiem Schwefel auf weniger als etwa 0,3 -5ew.-% gesunken ist., Wenn dez?
Druck 1,05 atü übersteigt} wird Inertgas Tareii äss Eesktions=
gemisch geleitet.
In einer anderen Ausführungsform des Verfahrens der Br-findus
wird Inertgas kontinuierlich1 durch das He«kt-ionsgemiseh geblasen, und zwar mit einer Geschwindigkeit τοη Torsugsweise
etwa 0,2687 - 2,687 Hl, insbesondere etwa 0,806 - 1,612 Nl pro Stunde und 0,454 kg-Reaktionsgemiseh (0,01 - 0,1 bzw«
0,Ό3 - 0,06 SCFH/pound). Der Druck soll ständig bei vorzugsweise
etwa 1,41 - 7iO3 und insbesondere 2,11 - 2,81 atü
und die Temperatur vorzugsweise bei etwa 190 - 240, insbesondere 226 - 235°C gehalten wurden.

Das geschwefelte Triisobutylen wird aus dem Reaktionsproduk
vorzugsweise durch Abstreifen (Strippen) des Gemischs unter vermindertem Druck, etwa 10 - 500, zweckmäßig etwa 1 Torr
und bei etwa 65 - 2320C gewonnen, wobei der Inertgasstrom etwa 0,08 - 2,637 Nl pro h und 0,454 kg Gemisch betragen
soll. Daran soll sich vorzugsweise eine Filtration des abgestreiften Rückstands durch Filterpapier und/oder
Kieselgur anschließen. Das erhaltene rote flüssige Produkt ist ein komplexes Gemisch und enthält hauptsächlich ein 4-Neopentyl-5-tert.butyl-1,2-dithiol-3-thion
sowie kleinere Anteile organischer Sulfide, polymerer Schwefelverbindungen,
restlicher Mercaptane und dgl., und ergibt allgemein etwa folgende Analyse:

Aceton löst. Man kann a"ber die Umsetzung auch fortführen,
obwohl die vorstehenden Werte erreicht sind, wenn eine wei- ■
tere Verminderung der Kupfer-Korrosivität für nötig gehalten
wird.
Für das Vermengen und Aufheizen des Ausgangsgemischs werden
gewöhnlich 0,5-5 Stunden "benötigt. Die Reaktionszeit selbst "beträgt etwa 20 - 50 h bei den niederen Drucken
(unter 1,05 atü). Bei den höheren Drucken, wenn Inertgas während der gesamten Umsetzung durchgeblasen wird, "belauft
-sich die Umsetzungsdauer auf etwa 10 - 20 h. Das Abstreifen
erfordert gewöhnlich etwa 8-15 und das Filtrieren etwa
0,25 -1h..
Das erfindungemäß erhaltene geschwefelte Triisobutylen-Produkt
ist ein wirksames hochdruckbeständiges· Additiv für Getriebe- und Schneidöle. Es wird darxn gewöhnlich in Anteilen
von etwa 0,3 - 10, vorzugsweise etwa 3-7 Gew«-% "verwendet.
Als Grundöle verwendet man zweckmäßigerweise napnthen— und paraffinbasische Mineralöle mit einer Viskosität von etwa
100 - 2500 SUS bei 37,80C. 0?ypische Getriebe- und Schneid-öle
enthalten darüberhinaus noch andere Additive, wie VI-Improver (dh. Polyalkylmethacrylate), Detergens-Dispergiermittel
(etwa Alkenylsueciniiride), Verschleißinhibitoren
(etwa Lauryl- oder Oleyl-Orthophosphorsäureester),
Korrosionsinhibitoren (wie Oleylamin) und Schmiermittel (wie Fettsäuren und Lauryl/Oleyl-Orthophosphate) und dgl.
Da Sriisobutylen bei Eaumtemperatur flüssig ist und einen
Siedebereich von ca. 175 - 179°C hat, bedarf das neue Verfahren
gewöhnlich keines Lösungsmittels, weil überschüssiges Triisobutylf.n als solches wirkt. Außerdem werden flüchtige
Bestandteile im flüssigen Zustand gehalten, wenn man innerhalb der angegebenen Grenzen ÜberdruckbedingungeE. anwendete

Bin wichtiges Merkmal einer Ausführungsform des Yerfahrens
'der Erfindung "bildet die Verwendung eines Inertgas-Blasaiittels
während der gesamten Umsetzungsdauer in Verbindung alt einem ständig großer als 1,05 atü gehaltenen Druck=, Bisher hatte sich die Verwendung eines inerten Blasmittels auf
äis Durchmischen der Ausgangsstoffe oder das Abstreifen des
Heaktionsprodukts beschränkt. Es wurde aber gefunden, daß
das Durchleiten von Inertgas während der Umsetzung eine
"beträchtliche 3r2tchuiig des Drucks und dadurch eine merkliche
Abkürsung der Eeakticnszeit erlaubt, ohne daß die Korrosiviyät
gegen Zupfer merklich ansteigt oder die Hoehdruckbeständighoit
c,e? Produkts surückgeht. Wahrscheinlich wird !beim
durchblasen des Heaktionsgemischs während der gesamten Heaktionszeit
das Nebenprodukt HgS sofort "bei seizier Entstehung
antfernt und daran gehindert s mit 2riisobutjlen an ö^p
öaptanen ziu reagieren. Mercaptane dieses Holgewichtsbereichs
sind gegen Zupfer nicht sehr korrosiv, man hielt deshalb die rasche Entfernung von H^S bisher für unnötige Aufgrund der.
unerwarteten Ergebnisse der praktisch sofortigen Beseitigung von H2S, die beim neuen Verfahren eintritt, ist nun a"ber
zu schließen, daß die gebildeten CLp-^ercaptane in Gegenwart
von freiem Schwefel korrosive Polysulfide bilden und deshalb
die frühzeitige Entfernung von HpS aus dem unter Überdruck
stehenden Heaktioasgemisch tatsächlich wichtig ist·
Ein anderes überraschendes Merkmal ist die Bedeutung des höchsten Triisobutylen : Schwefel-Molverhältnisees von größer
als etwa 1:5 für die Erzielung eines niedrigen Eupferstreif en-Korrosionstestwerts. Weiterhin überrascht auch
der Befund einer größeren Kupferstreifen-Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit,
wenn man im Verfahren der Erfindung das Triisodurch Diieobutylen ersetzt.
Die Erfindung soll anhand der folgenden Beispiele weiter
erläutört werden:

Ein 189 1 (50 gallons) fassender, ölbeheizter Edelstahl-Rührkessel
wurde mit Schwefel und Triisobutylen bei Raumtemperatur "beschickt. Das Gemisch wurde erwärmt und bei annähernd Atmospnärendruck
ein Stickstoff strom von 0,134 NmVh hindurchgeleitet.
Als eine Temperatur von 14-9 C erreicht war, wurde der
Rührer angestellt. Die Np-Zufuhr wurde dann unterbrochen und
weiteres Triisobutylen zugesetzt, ferner wurde Triisobutylen, das ständig abdampfte, als Rückfluß zurückgeführt. Nach Zusatz
e'er zweiten Triisobutylen-Portion wurde die Umsetzung unter
Rückfluß fortgesetzt. Dann wurde das Gemisch abgekühlt und ein ILj-Strom von 0,2687 Nm /h wieder durchgeleitet. Der
Druck im Rührkessel wurde dann unter ständigem Durchleiten von Ήρ auf 20 - 25 Torr absolut vermindert und die Temperstur
erhöht. Dann wurde der Np-Strom abgestellt und das Reaktionsgemisch
gekühlt und durch Filtrierpapier auf einem Sparkler-
Filter von 0,09 m filtriert. Es wurde ein Kieselgur-Eiltrierhilfsmittel
verwendet· ■ "
Das erhaltene Filtrat erwies sich bei der Analyse als ein
komplexes Gemisch von Schwefelverbindungen mit dein Hauptbe*»
^ standteil 4-Neopentyl~5-tert.butyl-1,2-dithiol-3-thion.
Nach diesem allgemeinen Verfahren wurden drei Versuche A -= 0
angestellt. Iri.e nachfolgenden Tabellen I und II gegen Auskunft ::über die Umsetsungsbedingungen, Schrittfolge und Eigenschaften der Produkte:

Dieses Beispiel soll zeigen, daß es zweckmäßig ist, die Umsetzung mit erheblichem TIB-Überschuß zu "beginnen.,
Nach dem allgemeinen Verfahren von Beispiel 1 wurde Versuch D mit 50 %-igem stöchiometrisehen TIB-Überschuß und Vergleichst
ersuch E mit 13 °/o TIB-Überschuß durchgeführt.
Wie die nachfolgende Tabellen zeigen, war die Kupferbeständigkeit
des Produkts von Versuch E wesentlich schlechter als für Versuch D.

.1) In einen ca. 38 1 fassenden, ölbeheizten Edelstahlreaktor
wurde das TIB eingefüllt und durchgerührt,
2) dann wurde Schwefel zugesetzt und
3) Stickstoff durch ein Einleitungsrohr eingeleitet, um den Reaktor auf den gewünschten Druck zu bringen.
4) Hierauf wurde der Reaktor r&sch aufgeheizt und die N«-
Einleitung fortgesetzt (wobei die Reaktion langsam einsetzte),
5) Es wurde die erforderliche Reaktionstemperatur gehalten
und das Durchblasen von Hp unter Rückflußbedingungen
fortgesetzt (TJmsetzungsperd ode),
6) das Reaktionsgemisch unter Fortsetzung des Einblasens von Ep abgekühlt,
$) das gekühlte Gemisch mit Ng im Vakuum abgestreift und
8) das erhaltene öl durch eine "Filterpatrone filtriert.
Das so gewonnene Piltrat des geschwefelten TIB wurde analysiert
und erwies sich als ein Gemisch zahlreicher Verbindungen, in dem als Hauptbestandteil 4-Neopentyl-5-tert.butyl-1,2-dithiol-3-thion
neben kleineren'Anteilen von Mercaptanen
und organischen Sulfiden enthalten war.
Die folgenden Tabellen V - VII geben die Umsetzungsbedinguiagen
sowie die Eigenschaften der Produkte wieder:

Dieses Beispiel erläutert die Hochdruckbeständigkeit von Schmierölen, die die geschwefelten ΙΊΒ-Produkte enthalten.
Im Versuch L wurde das Produkt von Versuch F, Tabelle VI und im Versuch M das Produkt von Versuch G, Tabelle VII von
Beispiel 3 verwendet.
Die Druckbeständigl:eit wurde nach dem entsprechenden SAE-Test
bestimmt und in kg Belastung bei Filmabriß für eine bestimmte Drehzahl ausgedrückt:

Claims (1)
- τ 71 073 21611Patentansprüche :Vorverfahren zur Herstellung eines hochdruckbeständigen Additivs für SchmxeröLe, das aus geschwefelten Triisobuty len "hsfeteht und verringerte Korrosivität gegen Kupfer "besitzt, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man Triisobutylen mit Schwefel bei einer Temperatur von etwa 182 - 260 C, einem Druck von etwa 0-7 atu und einem Molverhältnis Triisobutylen zu Schwefel von etwa 1:5 "bis 1 : 2,5 umsetzt, ein Inertgas wenigstens für eine Spanne der Reaktionszeit durch das Eeaktionsgemisch bläst, die Umsetzung forjführt, bis der Gehalt an freiem Schwefel im Eeaktionsgemisch weniger als 0,3 Gew.-% beträgt und schließlich das geschwefelte Triisobutylen aus dem Eeaktionsgemisch gewinnt, wobei das Inertgas während der Umsetzung durch das Reaktionsgemisch geblasen wird, sobald der Druck 1,05 atü überschreitet.2) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß Triisobutylen mit Schwefel bei einer Temperatur von etwa 10 - 150°C gemischt wird.3) Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß Aas Inertgas mit einer Geschwindigkeit von etwa 0,08 bis 5»37 Noxmalliter pro Stunde und 0,454 kg Eeaktionsgemisch (0,003 - 0,2 Standard Cubic Feet per Hour per pound) durch das Reaktionsgemisch geblasen wird.'4-) Verfahren nach einem der Ana Sprüche 1-3» dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß das Inertgas kontinuier-20983 S/136820- - 21611lieh und mit einer Geschwindigkeit von etwa 0,269 2,687 Nl pro 0,454 kg Reaktionsgemisch (0,01 - 0,1 SCFH ■ per pound) durch das Reaktionsgemisch, das unter einem Druck von etwa 1 - 7 atü gehalten wird, geblasen wird.5) Verfahren nach Anr-ipmich 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß das P.eaktionsgemisch unter einem Druck von etwa 1,4-1 - 4,22 atü gehalten wird.6) Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1-5» dadurch gekennz eichnet , daß die Temperatur des Reaktionsgemische "bei etwa 190 - 2410C gehalten wird.7) VerJäiren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 -6, dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß die Gewinnung des Produkts aus dem Reaktionsgemisch durch Abstreifen (stripping) bei einer Temperatur von etwa 65 - 232°C bei unteratmosphärischem Druck in Verbindung mit Hindurchblasen von Inertgas erfolgt.8) Verfahren nach Anspruch 7,dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß bei einem Druck von etwa 10 - 500 Torr gearbeitet wird.9) Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 -8, dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß das Inertgas mit einer Geschwindigkeit von etwa 2,687 - 26,87 Ml pro Stunde und pro 3,78533 1 Reaktionsgemisch (0,1 - 1 SCFH per US-gallonJ). durch das Reaktionsgemisch geblasen wird.10) Verfahre?! nach einem der Ansprüche 1 -9, dadurch gekennzeichnet ,daß als Inertgas Stickstoff verwendet wird.20988 b/ 1368- 21611 2411) Geschwefeltes Triisobutylen, hergestellt nach einem der Ansprüche 1-10 und gekennzeichnet durch ein spezifisches Gewicht bei 15»6/i5i6oC von etwa 1,12 - 1,13, eine kinematische Viskosität bei 37s8°c von 60 - 100 cSt, einen Schwefelgehalt von etwa 31,5 - 40,0 Gew.-%, einen Gehalt an freiem Schwefel von weniger als 0,3 Gew.-%, ein Gehalt an in Aceton unlöslichen Bestandteilen von weniger als 0,01 Gew.-% und ein mittleres Molgewicht von wenigstens etwa 260.12) Vervmdung des nach einem der Ansprüche 1-10 hergestellten geschwefelten Triisobutylens in einem Schmieröl, das aus einem Kohlenwasserstoff-Grundöl mit einer Viskosität von etwa 100 - 2500 SUS (Saybolt Universal Seconds) bei 37»8°C besteht, in einem Anteil von etwa 0,3 - 10 Gew.-%.2Q98S5/1368
