Vorliegende Erfindung bezieht sich auf eine wirksame Masse für positive Polelektroden
des Edison'schen Stromsammlers mit
alkalischem Elektrolyten. Diese Masse enthält bekanntlich Nickelhydroxyd als wirksamen
Bestandteil, wobei die Leitfähigkeit

von Schuppengraphit oder eines '-:; ■'"■■ sonstigen geeigneten Materials erhöht und
ίο der Kontakt der Masse mit dem Stromleiter
durch Einschließen der Masse in Taschen aus elastischem Blech mit durchbrochenen
Wänden gesichert wird. Die Erfindung besteht darin, daß der Nickelmasse eine kleine
Menge Wismuthydroxyd hinzugefügt wird. Man hat zwar bereits vorgeschlagen, verschiedene.
Oxyde, die mehrere Oxydationsstufen bilden können, darunter auch Nickeloxyd
und Wismutoxyd zusammenzumischen und als wirksame Masse von positiven Polelektroden
in alkalischen Sammlern zu verwenden; man hat aber bisher den Vorteil der Zumischung von Wismutoxyd, auch in kleinen
Mengen, nicht erkannt. Es hat sich nämlich gezeigt, daß ein solcher Zusatz die Kapazität
der Masse bis zu 20 Prozent erhöht, was im Hinblick darauf, daß Wismuthydroxyd allein
als depolarisierendes Material praktisch wertlos ist, nicht zu erwarten war. Das Wismuthydroxyd
kann zu dem Nickelhydroxyd und Graphit hinzugefügt werden, wenn die
Nickelmasse an sich fertig vorliegt, oder es kann auch zugleich mit dem Nickelhydroxyd
gefällt werden. Für die praktische Ausführung wendet der Erfinder vorzugsweise etwa 6 Teile Wismuthydroxyd auf 94 Teile
Nickelhydroxyd an, aber das Verhältnis zwischen den Komponenten kann geändert und
beispielsweise für Wismuthydroxyd auf 9 oder mehr von 100 Teilen der Masse erhöht
werden. Unter gewöhnlichen Umständen werden jedoch die besten Resultate erzielt,
wenn ungefähr 6 Prozent Wismuthydroxyd benutzt werden. Während des Herstellungsverfahrens
scheint ein Teil des Wismuthydroxyds in den anhydrischen Zustand überzugehen , da anhydrische Kristalle in der
Masse bemerkt werden können. Dies dürfte auf der Unbeständigkeit des Wismuthydroxyds
beruhen. Indessen bleibt ein großer Teil des Wismuts als Hydroxyd bestehen.
Claims (1)
- Patent-Anspruch :Nickelsauerstoffverbindungen enthaltende und mit besser leitenden Stoffen versetzte wirksame Masse für positive Polelektroden von alkalischen Sammlern, gekennzeichnet durch die Beimischung von Wismuthydroxyd, die entweder gleichzeitig mit der Fällung der Nickelmasse oder nach deren Herstellung erfolgt ist.
