Gemäß deutscher Patentschrift I 191 375 können Komplexe von Ubergangsmetallen dadurch hergestellt
werden, daß man Verbindungen von Ubergangsmetallen in Gegenwart von Elektronendonatoren mit
metallorganischen Verbindungen der Metalle der I. bis III. Gruppe des periodischen Systems reduziert.
Nach diesem Verfahren können auch Komplexe des Nickels (O), wie all-trans-Ccyclododecatrien-(l,5,9)-nickel
(O), Bis(cyclooctadien-1.5)-nickel (O), Cyclooctatetraen-nickel (O) Tetrakis(triphenylphosphin)nickel
(O) gewonnen werden.
Bei der Weiterentwicklung dieses Verfahrens hat sich gezeigt, daß im Zuge von Verdrängungsreaktionen
die am Zentralmetall gebundenen Liganden durch andere Liganden ersetzt werden können. In diesem
Sinne reagiert z. B. all-trans-Cyclododecatrien-(1,5,9)-nickel
(O) bereits bei etwa - 60° C mit Butadien, dabei wird das Cyclododecatrien verdrängt, und es
entsteht durch Verknüpfung von je drei Butadienmolekülen ein an Nickel gebundenes C12-Bis-.-r-allylsystem

Weiterhin wurde gefunden, daß Carbonylverbindungen, insbesondere ungesättigte Carbonylverbindungen,
wie z. B. Benzaldehyd, Zimtaldehyd, Phenylpentadienal, Vitamin-A-aldehyd, Crotonaldehyd,
Acrolein, Mesityloxyd, /ϊ-Jonon, derartige Verdrängungsreaktionen
einzugehen vermögen. Aus Bis(cyclo-Nach der Hydrolyse des Nicke'ats erhält man in
hohen Ausbeuten das Diol, das in bekannter Weise in l,6-Diphenyl-hexatrien-( 1,3,5) verwandelt werden
kann.
Das Verfahren gemäß der Erfindung zur Herstellung von Alkoholen bzw. deren Nickelalkoholaten ist dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß man bei Temperaturen von O bis 200'C gegebenenfalls unter Verwendung von
Lösungsmitteln
a) Carbonylverbindungen und 1,3-Diolefine auf
Komplexe des Nickels (O) einwirken läßt oder
b) .T-Allyl-Nickel-Verbindungen mit Carbonylverbindungen
umsetzt, dann die erhaltenen Nickelalkoholate gegebenenfalls in an sich bekannter
Weise hydrolisiert.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren hat sich als allgemein anwendbar erwiesen, d. h., sowohl die Carbonylverbindungen
als auch die 1,3-Diolefine können beliebig variiert werden. Als Carbonylverbindungen können
aliphatische, alicyclische, gesättigte und ungesättigte
Aldehyde und Ketone sowie durch aromü tische Feste substituierte gesättigte und ungesättigte Aldehyde
und Ketone eingesetzt werden. Als Beispiele seien Formaldehyd, Acetaldehyd, Propionaldehyd, Butyraldehyd,
Acrolein, Crotonaldehyd, Hexadienal. Propargylaldehyd, Benzaldehyd, Zimtaldehyd, Phenylpentadienal,
Vitamin-A-aldehyd, Anisaldehyd, Vanillin, Aceton, Methyläthylketon, Mesityloxyd, Cyclopentanon,
Cyclohexanon, Acetophenon, Benzophenon, γί-Jonon genannt. Außerdem können auch aliphatisehe,
alicyelische gesättigte und ungesättigte sowie durch aromatische Reste substituierte gesättigte und
ungesättigte Dialdehyde und Diketone verwendet werden. Als Beispiele seien Glyoxal, Malondialdehyd,
Succindialdehyd, Diacetyl, Acetylaceton, Acetonylaceton, Benzil, Benzoylaceton genannt. Im Falle des
Einsatzes von Dialdehyden bzw. Diketonen können längere Ketten mit wiederkehrenden monomeren Einheiten

Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren kann in Gegenwart von Lösungsmitteln wie aliphatischen, alicyclischen
oder ar »matischen Kohlenwasserstoffen, Äthern oder auch Estern ausgeführt werden. Als Lösungsmittel
können aber a'ich die Carbonylverbindungen oder die 1,3-Diolefine selbst dienen. Die Umsetzung
wird bei Temperaturen von O bis 20OC, bevorzugt bei 20 bis 100"1C, ausgeführt. Die Nickelalkoholate
können entweder isoliert und anschließend hydrolisiert werden oder ohne Isolierung gleich hydrolysiert
werden.
Die aus den verfahrensgemäß herstellbaren Nickelalkoholaten
bei der Hydrolyse anfallenden Alkohole sind wertvolle Ausgangsstoffe für weitere Syntnesen,
insbesondere aber fi.ii die herstellung von Polyenen.
So erhält man nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren aus Vitamin-A-aldehyd, Butadien und Nickel, ein
Nickelalkoholat, das bei der Hydrolyse ein Diol liefert. Die Dehydratisierung führt zu einem C^Hg
das ein Homologes des (-(-Carotins darstellt.

Aceton suspendiert und aiuchliefiend bei Zimmer
temperatur 6,0 g = 11 mMol Butadien eingeleitet
Dabei färbt sich die gelbe Suspension dunkelrot. Nach
zweitägigem Rühren schlägt die Farbe des Reaktionsgemisches in Grün um. gleichzeitig wird der Kolhenmhalt
gelartig fest. Bei etwa 0,5 Torr werden die flüchtigen Anfeile abdestilliert, und es verbleiben 10.7 g
eines festen Rückstandes, der in einem Soxhlet 4S Stunden mit 100 ecm Äther extrahiert wird. Der
Rückstand sublimiert bei 10"4Torr und 70 C. Es
weiden 4.5 g = 26 mMol = 60%, bezogen auf eingesetztes Nickel, 2.7-Dimethyloeten-(4)-dio!-(2,7) erhalten,
Schmp. 85 bis 86 C.

Führt man die Reaktion bei 70 C in einem Bombenrohr aus, so erreicht man den gleichen Umsatz in etwa
5 Stunden. Die Ergebnisse entsprechen den vorhergegangenen Versuchen.

In eine Suspension von 19,55 g = 7! mMol
(COD)2Ni und 125 ecm Cyclohexanon werden II g
= 2OmMoI Butadien eingeleitet. Die Farbe schlägt
schon nach etwa 4 Stunden nach Grün um. Das grüne gelartige Reaktionsgemisch wird mit 100 ecm Äther
verdünnt, mit 50 ecm 2 11-H2SO4 ausgeschüttelt und
mit NaHCO3 säurefrei gewaschen. Nach dem Trocknen über wasserfreiem Na2SO4 wird das überschüssige
Butadien und der Äther aus der farblosen Lösung abdestilliert. Aus dem nach der Destillation verbliebenen
Rückstand werden durch Umkristallisation aus Benzol/Petroläther
11,6 g = 46 mMol = 65% der Theorie farbloses l,4-Di-(cyclohexanolyl-l)buten-(2) isoliert,
Schmp. 101 'C.
Berechnet ... C 76,14, H 11,10%; gefunden .... C 76,59, H 11,02%.
In eine Suspension von 20,4 g = 74 mMol (COD)iNi in 100 ecm Acetonhenon werden lldn
= 22 mMol Butadien eingeleitet. Das (COD)2Ni löst
sich unter Rotfärbung. Nach dreitägigem Rühren bei etwa 20° C wird das jetzt grüne gelartige Reaktionsgemisch mit 200 ecm Äther verdünnt, mit 50 ecm
2 n-H2SO4 gewaschen, mit NaHCO3-Lösung neutralisiert
und über Na2SO4 getrocknet. Aus der gelben
Lösung fallen nach mehreren Tagen 3 g 1-Methyl-(1,3,5)
- tri phenyl - (2) - benzoyleyclohexadien - (2,4) aus, Schmp. 136° C nach Umkristallisieren aus Methanol.

Die Mutterlauge wird bei 10~4 Torr bei etwa 200C
von Butadien, COD und Acetophenon so weit wie rs möglich befreit. Es verbleiben noch 39,5 g, von denen
sich bei 10 4 Torr und einer Badtemperatur von 140 bis 150" C eine gelbe Flüssigkeit abdestillieren läßt,
die laut gaschromatographischer Analyse zu 89% aus Dypnon besteht.
Aus dem bei 150° C verbliebenen Rückstand werden 14 g = 63% dei Theorie 2,7-Diphenylocten-(4)-diol-(2,7)
isoliert, Schmp. 114°C nach Umkristallisieren
aus Benzol/Petroläther.

10 mMol Benzaldehyd und 1,0 g = 46 mMol 2,3-DiphenylbutaJien in IC ecm Benzol eingetropft.
Nach 24 Stunden wird zu der dunkelrotgefarbten
Lösung 1 g = 10 mMol Acetylaceton gegeben, worauf
die Farbe der Lösung über Braun in Grün umschlägt
Es konnten 0,7 g = 1,7 mMol = 47% der Theorie l,3,4,6-Tetraphenylhexen-(3)-diol-(l,6) isoliert werden,
Schmp. 134 bis 135° C.

Eine Lösung von 3,3 g = 23,4 mMol Bis-;7-allylnickel
in 100 ecm Äther wird bei 0°C mit 2,5 g = 23,5 mMol Benzaldehyd umgesetzt. Das Gemisch
färbt sich tiefrot. Nach 12 Stunden werden die flüchtigen Anteile bei 10"4 Torr abgezogen. Der Rückstand,
5,1 g, wird in 40ecm Pentan gelöst und bei -8O0C
umkristallisiert. Ausbeute: 3,5 g = 14,1 mMol ,-r-AI-ly!nickd-l-phcnylbuten-(3)-olat
= 60% der Theorie.

In eine Suspension von 11,6 g = 42 mMol (COD)2Ni in 52 g = 49,3 mMol Benzaldehyd und
50 ecm Alkohol (5% Wasser) werden unter Rühren
6.8 g = 100 mMol Isopren bei: 2O0C eingetropft. Die
Reaktion tritt augenblicklich unter Erwärmen auf etwa 40" C ein, wobei das Gemisch gelartig fest wird.
Es werden 7,5 g = 26,6 mMol = 63% der Theorie 1,6 - Diphenyl - (3) - methylhexen - (3) - diol -(1,6) vom
Schmp. 125 bis 126° C erhalten.

In eine Mischung aus 13,1 g = 47 mMol (COD)2Ni
in 52 g = 493 mMol Benzaldehyd und 50 ecm Alkohol (5% Wasser) werden 8,8 g = 107 mMol 2,3-Dimethylbutadien
eingetropft. Der Farbweclisel tritt nach 3 Stunden ein, und nach weiteren 24 Stunden werden
6.9 g = 23,3 mMol = 50% der Theorie 1,6-Diphenyl-(3,4)-dimethylhexen-(3)-diol-(l,6)
vom Schmp. 129 bis 130"C erhalten.

3,5 g= 14,1 mMol des Alkoholate werden mit 100 ecm Alkohol (5% Wasser) umgesetzt. Nach
24 Stunden wird die grüne Suspension bei 10"4 Torr von den Lösungsmitteln befreit. Der grüne Rückstand
wird mit Äther extrahiert, der Extrakt eingedampft. Man erhält 1,8 g eines viskosen Öls, Kp.o5 = 96 bis
97°C, das laut gaschromatographischer Analyse zu 96% aus l-Phenylbuten-3-ol besteht. Ausbeute: 82%
der Theorie.
Hg = 4OmMoI (COD)2Ni werden in 100 ecm
Benzol suspendiert und mit Hg = 80,8 mrvioi Anisaldehyd
umgesetzt. Anschließend leitet man etwa 6g = 110 mMol Butadien ein. Nach 24 Stunden bildet
sich ein brauner Niederschlag, den man nach Entfernen des Losungsmittels mit 100 ecm Alkohol (5% Wasser)
umsetzt. Nach 24 Stunden wird die grüne Suspension bei 10 ~4 Torr von den Lösungsmitteln befreit. Der
Rückstand wird mit Äther extrahiert, der Extrakt eingedampft. Man erhält 9.8 g = 29,8 mMo! 1,6-Bis-(4-melhoxyphenyl)-hexen-(3)-dio!-(l,6)
= 74% der Theorie, Schmp. 140 bis 14PC, nach Umkristallisieren in Benzol und PctrolUther.

20°.C mit 15 g= 141 mMol Benzaldehyd versetzt. Sofort fällt ein hellbrauner, voluminöser Niederschlag
aus. Nach 12 Stunden werden 4,8 g= 14,7 mMol = 29,6% der Theorie des schwerlöslichen III isoliert.

24 Stunden arbeitet man auf. Bei 10~4 Torr und 135
bis 145°C gehe» 1,4 g l-Phenyltridecanol(l) als viskoses öl über. Ausbeute: 67% der Theorie.

(cyclooctadicn)nickel werden 4,6 g = 85 mMol Buta- 5 g der Verbindung C22H30N2O2, das sind 39% bezo·
dkn eingeleitet und 10,8 g = 72,8 mMol p-Dimethyl- io gen auf eingesetztes Bis(cyclooctadien)nickel; Schmp.
