Abstract
Ein Netzwerk-Schnittstellen-Controller (NIC), der einen effizienten Speicherzugriff ermöglicht, wird bereitgestellt. Der NIC kann mit einem Betriebslogikblock, einem Signalisierungslogikblock und einem Verfolgungslogikblock ausgestattet sein. Der Betriebslogikblock kann eine Betriebsgruppe aufrechterhalten, die Paketen zugeordnet ist, die eine Operation in einem Speichersegment eines Host-Geräts des NICs anfordern. Der Signalisierungslogikblock kann feststellen, ob ein Paket, das der Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, am NIC angekommen ist oder es verlassen hat. Außerdem kann der Verfolgungslogikblock feststellen, dass eine Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments ausgegeben wurde. Der Verfolgungslogikblock kann dann feststellen, ob mindestens ein mit der Vorgangsgruppe verbundenes Paket im NIC in Bearbeitung ist. - HINTERGRUND
- Feld
- Dies bezieht sich allgemein auf das technische Gebiet der Vernetzung. Genauer gesagt bezieht sich diese Offenlegung auf Systeme und Verfahren zur Erleichterung eines effizienten Host-Speicherzugriffs von einem Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller (NIC).
- Stand der Technik
- Da netzwerkfähige Geräte und Anwendungen immer allgegenwärtiger werden, erfordern verschiedene Arten von Datenverkehr sowie die ständig steigende Netzwerklast immer mehr Leistung von der zugrunde liegenden Netzwerkarchitektur. So können beispielsweise Anwendungen wie High-Performance Computing (HPC), Medien-Streaming und Internet of Things (IOT) verschiedene Arten von Datenverkehr mit unterschiedlichen Merkmalen erzeugen. Infolgedessen stehen Netzwerkarchitekten zusätzlich zu den herkömmlichen Netzwerkleistungskennzahlen wie Bandbreite und Verzögerung weiterhin vor Herausforderungen wie Skalierbarkeit, Vielseitigkeit und Effizienz.
- ZUSAMMENFASSUNG
- Ein Netzwerk-Schnittstellen-Controller (NIC), der einen effizienten Host-Speicherzugriff ermöglicht, wird bereitgestellt. Der NIC kann mit einem Betriebslogikblock, einem Signalisierungslogikblock und einem Verfolgungslogikblock ausgestattet sein. Der Betriebslogikblock kann eine erste Betriebsgruppe aufrechterhalten, die Paketen zugeordnet ist, die eine Operation in einem Speichersegment eines Host-Geräts des NICs anfordern. Der Signalisierungslogikblock kann feststellen, ob ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, am NIC angekommen ist oder es verlassen hat. Außerdem kann der Verfolgungslogikblock feststellen, dass eine Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments ausgegeben wurde. Der Verfolgungslogikblock kann dann feststellen, ob mindestens ein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket im NIC in Bearbeitung ist. Wenn im NIC kein der ersten Betriebsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket in Bearbeitung ist, kann der Verfolgungslogikblock dem Host-Gerät mitteilen, dass das Speichersegment freigegeben werden kann.

- AUSFÜHRLICHE BESCHREIBUNG
- Verschiedene Modifikationen der offengelegten Ausführungsformen sind für den Fachmann ohne weiteres ersichtlich, und die hierin definierten allgemeinen Grundsätze können auf andere Ausführungsformen und Anwendungen angewandt werden, ohne von Geist und Umfang der vorliegenden Offenbarung abzuweichen. Daher ist die vorliegende Erfindung nicht auf die gezeigten Ausführungsformen beschränkt.
- Übersicht
- Die vorliegende Offenlegung beschreibt Systeme und Verfahren, die einen effizienten Host-Speicherzugriff von einem Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller (NIC) aus ermöglichen. Die NIC ermöglicht es einem Host, mit einem datengesteuerten Netzwerk zu kommunizieren. Das Netzwerk kann dynamischen Datenverkehr mit schneller, effektiver Staukontrolle aufnehmen, indem es Zustandsinformationen über einzelne Paketströme aufrechterhält. Genauer gesagt können Pakete, die in das Switch-Netzwerk eingespeist werden, in Streams kategorisiert werden, die ihren Schicht-2-, Schicht-3- oder anderen protokollspezifischen Header-Informationen zugeordnet werden können. Jeder Datenstrom kann durch eine eindeutige Kennung markiert werden, die einem Eingangsport eines Switches zugeordnet ist, und mit einem Datenstrom-spezifischen Eingangspuffer versehen werden, so dass jeder Datenstrom individuell gesteuert werden kann. Darüber hinaus können Pakete eines jeweiligen Datenstroms beim Erreichen des Ausgangspunkts des Netzes bestätigt werden, und die Bestätigungspakete können auf demselben Datenpfad in umgekehrter Richtung zum Eingangspunkt des Datenstroms zurückgeschickt werden. Auf diese Weise kann jeder Switch Zustandsinformationen über aktive Paketströme erhalten, die er weiterleitet, und eine sehr reaktionsschnelle, strömungsspezifische Flusssteuerung durchführen. Durch eine solche Flusssteuerung kann das Netz mit höherer Kapazität betrieben werden und bietet gleichzeitig vielseitige Möglichkeiten zur Verkehrssteuerung.
- Die hier beschriebenen Ausführungsformen lösen das Problem der effizienten Verarbeitung von späten Operationen im Zusammenhang mit einem Speicherzugriff, indem sie (i) die Anzahl der ausstehenden Operationen einer Operationsgruppe, die mit einer Speicherabbildung verbunden ist, beibehalten und (ii) erlauben, dass Operationen, die zu einer anderen Operationsgruppe einer nachfolgenden Speicherabbildung gehören, fortgesetzt werden, wenn die ausstehenden Operationen abgeschlossen sind.
- Während des Betriebs kann der NIC einen Befehl mit einer Operation verarbeiten, die auf den Speicher des Host-Geräts zugreifen kann (z. B. ein „GET“- oder ein „PUT“-Befehl des direkten Fernspeicherzugriffs (RDMA)). Eine Host-Schnittstelle des NIC kann den NIC mit dem Host-Gerät koppeln und die Kommunikation zwischen dem Speicher des Host-Geräts und dem NIC erleichtern. Handelt es sich bei dem Befehl um einen RDMA-Befehl, kann der Prozess, der den Befehl ausgibt, auf einem Quellgerät arbeiten, und das Host-Gerät, das den Befehl empfängt, kann ein Zielgerät sein. Die NICs des Quell- und des Zielgeräts können als Quell- und Ziel-NICs bezeichnet werden. Der Prozess kann eine lokale Speicheradresse des Quellgeräts einer entsprechenden Speicheradresse, die eine virtuelle Speicheradresse sein kann, des Zielgeräts zuordnen. Dies ermöglicht es dem Prozess, Befehle zu erteilen, die direkt Operationen im Speicher des Zielgeräts durchführen können.
- Nach Beendigung seiner Operationen kann der Prozess die Zuordnung freigeben. Folglich kann der Speicherplatz, der mit der Speicheradresse des Zielgeräts verbunden ist, von dem Prozess freigegeben (oder freigegeben) und einem anderen Prozess neu zugewiesen werden. Handelt es sich bei dem Prozess jedoch um einen verteilten Prozess, können die von dem Prozess ausgegebenen Operationen von verschiedenen Quellgeräten ausgegeben werden. Folglich können die Speicherfreigabeinformationen auf verschiedene Quellgeräte verteilt werden. Die Freigabeinformationen sind jedoch möglicherweise nicht global sichtbar, während die Informationen verteilt werden. Infolgedessen können einige Operationen, die auf den freigegebenen Speicher zugreifen, immer noch von Quellgeräten ausgegeben werden, die die Freigabeinformationen nicht erhalten haben. Diese Operationen können als verspätete Operationen bezeichnet werden, weil sie zu spät auf den Speicher zugreifen (z. B. ein verspätetes Lesen oder Schreiben). Ein Paket, das mit einer späten Operation verbunden ist, kann als spätes Paket bezeichnet werden. Die späten Operationen können sich in der Verarbeitungspipeline des Zielgeräts befinden und können versuchen, auf den freigegebenen Speicher zuzugreifen.
- Um dieses Problem zu lösen, kann der Ziel-NIC den Speicher vor späten Operationen schützen, indem er die Verarbeitungspipeline des Ziel-NIC leert. In einigen Ausführungsformen kann der NIC zwei Epochen verwalten. Eine jeweilige Epoche kann eine Operationsgruppe darstellen, die den Paketen mit Operationen zugeordnet werden kann, die auf den Speicher des Zielgeräts zugreifen können, während die entsprechende Speicherzuordnung gültig bleiben kann. Die Epoche kann einen Zähler enthalten, der eine Anzahl (oder Zählung) der Pakete der Operationsgruppe angibt. Die Epoche kann im NIC auf der Grundlage eines Epochenkennzeichens dargestellt werden. So können beispielsweise zwei Epochen durch ein einziges Bit im NIC identifiziert werden (z. B. mit Hilfe eines Ein-Bit-Registers). Wenn die Speicherzuordnung im Ziel-NIC registriert ist, kann eine Epoche aktiviert werden (z. B. durch Setzen eines entsprechenden Wertes in einem Register). Der entsprechende Epochenbezeichner wird dann auf die Elemente oder Einheiten im NIC verteilt.
- Wenn ein Paket in die Paketverarbeitungspipeline des Ziel-NIC eintritt, kann der Ziel-NIC das Paket mit der aktuellen Epoche kennzeichnen und anschließend den Zähler der aktuellen Epoche erhöhen. Verlässt das Paket hingegen die Paketverarbeitungs-Pipeline, kann der Ziel-NIC den Zähler der im Paket angegebenen Epoche dekrementieren. Dadurch kann der Zähler die Anzahl der Pakete der aktuellen Epoche (d. h. der aktuellen Betriebsgruppe) anzeigen, die sich in der Paketverarbeitungs-Pipeline des Ziel-NIC befinden. Wenn der Prozess eine Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichers stellt, kann der Ziel-NIC nach Erhalt der Freigabeinformationen die Epochen umschalten (oder toggeln). Infolgedessen kann die Epoche, die mit dem freigegebenen Speicher verbunden war, zur vorherigen Epoche und die neue Epoche zur aktuellen Epoche werden. Der der vorherigen Epoche zugeordnete Zähler kann als vorheriger Zähler bezeichnet werden, und der der aktuellen Epoche zugeordnete Zähler kann als aktueller Zähler bezeichnet werden.
- Alle nachfolgenden Pakete mit Speicherzugriff können dann auf der Grundlage des aktuellen Zählers verfolgt werden. Die verspäteten Pakete, die mit der vorherigen Epoche verbunden sind und sich in der Verarbeitungspipeline befinden, können jedoch weiterhin anhand des Zählers der vorherigen Epoche verfolgt werden. Der Ziel-NIC kann den vorherigen Zähler weiter dekrementieren, wenn ein der vorherigen Epoche zugeordnetes spätes Paket die Verarbeitungspipeline verlässt. Der Speicher darf erst freigegeben werden, wenn der vorherige Zähler auf Null steht. Dies kann es den Paketen in der Pipeline ermöglichen, ihre jeweiligen Operationen abzuschließen. Wenn der Zähler für die vorhergehende Epoche Null wird, kann der Ziel-NIC feststellen, dass die verspäteten Pakete aus der Verarbeitungspipeline entfernt wurden. Der Ziel-NIC kann dann dem Zielgerät mitteilen, dass der Speicher freigegeben werden kann, so dass die mit der aktuellen Epoche verbundenen Operationen auf den Speicher zugreifen können. Da der aktuelle Zähler für die Pakete dieser Operationen inkrementiert wurde, kann der Ziel-NIC den aktuellen Zähler dekrementieren, wenn eine Speicherzugriffsoperation abgeschlossen ist, und das zugehörige Paket kann die Verarbeitungspipeline verlassen.
- Eine Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung stellt einen NIC bereit, der mit einem Betriebslogikblock, einem Signalisierungslogikblock und einem Verfolgungslogikblock ausgestattet werden kann. Der Betriebslogikblock kann eine erste Betriebsgruppe aufrechterhalten, die Paketen zugeordnet ist, die einen Betrieb in einem Speichersegment eines Host-Geräts des NIC anfordern. Der Signalisierungslogikblock kann feststellen, ob ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, am NIC angekommen ist oder es verlassen hat. Außerdem kann der Verfolgungslogikblock feststellen, dass eine Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments ausgegeben wurde. Der Verfolgungslogikblock kann dann feststellen, ob mindestens ein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket im NIC in Bearbeitung ist. Wenn im NIC kein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket in Bearbeitung ist, kann der Verfolgungslogikblock dem Host-Gerät mitteilen, dass das Speichersegment freigegeben werden kann.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann der Verfolgungslogikblock einen ersten Zähler, der der ersten Betriebsgruppe zugeordnet ist, als Reaktion auf ein der ersten Betriebsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket, das am NIC ankommt, inkrementieren. Andererseits kann der Verfolgungslogikblock den ersten Zähler als Reaktion auf ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist und den NIC verlässt, dekrementieren.
- In einer weiteren Variante kann der Verfolgungslogikblock auf der Grundlage des Wertes des ersten Zählers feststellen, dass im NIC kein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket in Bearbeitung ist.
- In einer weiteren Variante kann der Signalisierungslogikblock ein Signal zum Inkrementieren oder Dekrementieren des ersten Zählers auf der Grundlage der Erkennung der Einleitung bzw. des Abschlusses einer Operation auf dem Speichersegment erzeugen. Die Operation kann in einem Paket der ersten Operationsgruppe angezeigt werden.
- In einer weiteren Variante kann der Abschluss des Vorgangs die Erkennung eines Fehlers für den Vorgang beinhalten.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann der Betriebslogikblock beim Erkennen einer Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments von einer ersten Betriebsgruppe auf eine zweite Betriebsgruppe umschalten, die mit Paketen verbunden ist, die nach der Freigabe eine Operation auf dem Speichersegment anfordern.
- In einer weiteren Variante kann der Verfolgungslogikblock einen zweiten Zähler inkrementieren, der der zweiten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, wenn ein der zweiten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket am NIC ankommt.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann der Verfolgungslogikblock davon absehen, dem Host-Gerät mitzuteilen, dass das Speichersegment freigegeben werden kann, wenn mindestens ein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket im NIC in Bearbeitung ist.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann ein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket einer Operation entsprechen, die von einem auf einem entfernten Gerät laufenden Prozess ausgegeben wird. Das Speichersegment kann dem Prozess zugewiesen werden.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann der Verfolgungslogikblock feststellen, dass die Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments auf der Grundlage eines Befehls erteilt wurde, der über eine Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe)-Schnittstelle oder eine Compute Express Link (CXL)-Schnittstelle an den NIC ausgegeben wurde.

- In einigen Ausführungsformen kann HI 210 eine Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI), eine Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) oder eine Compute Express Link (CXL) Schnittstelle sein. HI 210 kann über eine Host-Verbindung 201 an einen Host gekoppelt werden, die N (z. B. kann N bei einigen Chips 16 sein) PCIe Gen 4-Lanes umfassen kann, die mit Signalraten von bis zu 25 Gbit/s pro Lane arbeiten können. - Der NIC 202 kann eine Befehlswarteschlangeneinheit (CQ) 230 enthalten. Die CQ-Einheit 230 kann für das Abrufen und Ausgeben von hostseitigen Befehlen zuständig sein. Die CQ-Einheit 230 kann Befehlswarteschlangen 232 und Scheduler 234 umfassen. Die Befehlswarteschlangen 232 können zwei unabhängige Sätze von Warteschlangen für Initiatorbefehle (PUT, GET usw.) bzw. Zielbefehle (Append, Search usw.) umfassen. Die Befehlswarteschlangen 232 können als zirkuläre Puffer implementiert werden, die im Speicher der NIC 202 gehalten werden. Auf dem Host laufende Anwendungen können direkt in die Befehlswarteschlangen 232 schreiben. Die Scheduler 234 können zwei separate Scheduler für Initiatorbefehle bzw. Zielbefehle enthalten. Die Initiatorbefehle werden auf der Grundlage einer Hash-Funktion in Fluss-Warteschlangen 236 sortiert. Eine der Fluss-Warteschlangen 236 kann einem eindeutigen Fluss zugewiesen werden. Darüber hinaus kann die CQ-Einheit 230 ein Modul 238 für getriggerte Operationen enthalten, das für die Einreihung und Abfertigung getriggerter Befehle zuständig ist.
- Die Outbound Transfer Engine (OXE) 240 kann Befehle aus den Ablaufwarteschlangen 236 abrufen, um sie für den Versand zu verarbeiten. OXE 240 kann eine Adressübersetzungsanforderungseinheit (ATRU) 244 enthalten, die Adressübersetzungsanforderungen an die Adressübersetzungseinheit (ATU) 212 senden kann. Die ATU 212 kann die Übersetzung von virtuellen in physische Adressen im Auftrag verschiedener Engines, wie OXE 240, Inbound Transfer Engine (IXE) 250 und Event Engine (EE) 216, vornehmen. - Anschließend kann das ausgewählte Paket an die Paket- und Verbindungsverfolgung (PCT) 270 gesendet werden. PCT 270 kann das Paket in einer Warteschlange 274 speichern. PCT 270 kann auch Statusinformationen für ausgehende Befehle verwalten und die Statusinformationen aktualisieren, wenn Antworten zurückgegeben werden. PCT 270 kann auch Paketstatusinformationen (z. B. um Antworten mit Anfragen abzugleichen), Nachrichtenstatusinformationen (z. B. um den Fortschritt von Nachrichten mit mehreren Paketen zu verfolgen), Initiator-Abschlussstatusinformationen und Wiederholungsstatusinformationen (z. B. um die Informationen zu erhalten, die erforderlich sind, um einen Befehl zu wiederholen, wenn eine Anfrage oder eine Antwort verloren geht) verwalten. Wenn eine Antwort nicht innerhalb einer bestimmten Zeitspanne zurückkommt, kann der entsprechende Befehl im Wiederholungspuffer 272 gespeichert werden. PCT 270 kann die Verbindungsverwaltung für Initiator- und Zielbefehle auf der Grundlage von Quelltabellen 276 bzw. Zieltabellen 278 erleichtern. PCT 270 kann zum Beispiel seine Quelltabellen 276 aktualisieren, um den notwendigen Zustand für eine zuverlässige Zustellung des Pakets und die Benachrichtigung über den Abschluss der Nachricht zu verfolgen. PCT 270 kann ausgehende Pakete an HNI 220 weiterleiten, die die Pakete in der ausgehenden Warteschlange 222 speichert.
- Die NIC 202 kann auch ein IXE 250 enthalten, das die Paketverarbeitung übernimmt, wenn die NIC 202 ein Ziel oder ein Bestimmungsort ist. IXE 250 kann die eingehenden Pakete von HNI 220 abrufen. Parser 256 kann die eingehenden Pakete parsen und die entsprechenden Paketinformationen an eine List Processing Engine (LPE) 264 oder eine Message State Table (MST) 266 zum Abgleich weiterleiten. LPE 264 kann eingehende Nachrichten mit Puffern abgleichen. LPE 264 kann den Puffer und die Startadresse bestimmen, die von jeder Nachricht verwendet werden sollen. LPE 264 kann auch einen Pool von Listeneinträgen 262 verwalten, die zur Darstellung von Puffern und unerwarteten Nachrichten verwendet werden. MST 266 kann Abgleichsergebnisse und die für die Erzeugung von zielseitigen Abschlussereignissen erforderlichen Informationen speichern. MST 266 kann von uneingeschränkten Operationen verwendet werden, einschließlich PUT-Befehlen mit mehreren Paketen und GET-Befehlen mit einem oder mehreren Paketen.
- Anschließend kann der Parser 256 die Pakete im Paketspeicher 254 speichern. Das IXE 250 kann die Ergebnisse des Abgleichs für die Konfliktprüfung abrufen. Das DMA-Schreib- und AMO-Modul 252 kann dann Aktualisierungen des Speichers vornehmen, die durch Schreib- und AMO-Operationen erzeugt werden. Wenn ein Paket einen Befehl enthält, der zielseitige Speicherleseoperationen erzeugt (z. B. eine GET-Antwort), kann das Paket an OXE 240 weitergeleitet werden. Das NIC 202 kann auch einen EE 216 enthalten, der Anforderungen zur Erzeugung von Ereignisbenachrichtigungen von anderen Modulen oder Einheiten im NIC 202 empfangen kann. Eine Ereignismeldung kann angeben, dass entweder ein Füll- oder ein Zählereignis erzeugt wird. EE 216 kann Ereignis-Warteschlangen verwalten, die sich im Speicher des Host-Prozessors befinden und in die sie vollständige Ereignisse schreibt. EE 216 kann Zählereignisse an die CQ-Einheit 230 weiterleiten.
- Effizienter Speicherzugriff vom NIC

- Nach Beendigung seiner Operationen kann der Prozess die Zuordnung freigeben. Folglich kann das Speichersegment 304 von dem Prozess freigegeben (oder freigegeben) und einem anderen Prozess neu zugewiesen werden. Bei einem verteilten Prozess ist die Freigabeinformation jedoch möglicherweise nicht global sichtbar. Infolgedessen können einige späte Operationen, die auf das Speichersegment 304 zugreifen, noch ausgegeben werden. NIC 320 kann daher eine Anzahl von Paketen in der Verarbeitungspipeline haben, wenn der Prozess das Speichersegment 304 freigibt. Die zugehörigen späten Operationen können versuchen, auf das Speichersegment 304 zuzugreifen, das möglicherweise einem anderen Prozess neu zugewiesen wurde.
- Um dieses Problem zu lösen, kann der NIC 320 das Speichersegment 304 vor späten Operationen schützen, indem er die Verarbeitungspipeline des NIC 320 leert. NIC 320 kann zwei Epochen 342 und 346 führen. Die Epochen 342 und 346 können Zähler 344 bzw. 348 enthalten. Eine jeweilige Epoche kann im NIC 320 auf der Grundlage eines Epochenbezeichners dargestellt werden. Beispielsweise können die Epochen 342 und 346 durch ein einziges Bit im NIC 320 identifiziert werden. Dementsprechend können die Bezeichner der Epochen 342 und 346 0 bzw. 1 sein. Wenn das Speichersegment 304 dem Prozess zugewiesen wird, kann NIC 320 eine Registrierungsanforderung für die Zuordnung zwischen den lokalen Speicheradressen des Prozesses und den Speicheradressen des Speichersegments 304 erhalten.
- Nach Erhalt der Anforderung kann die ATU 328 die Epoche 342 für eine Vorgangsgruppe aktivieren, die den Paketen mit Vorgängen zugeordnet werden kann, die auf das Speichersegment 304 zugreifen können, solange die entsprechende Speicherzuordnung gültig ist. Die Aktivierung der Epoche 342 kann auch prozessspezifisch sein. Die Aktivierung von Epoche 342 kann die Kennzeichnung nachfolgender Pakete mit einer Kennung von Epoche 342 beinhalten. Der Zähler 344 kann eine Anzahl der Pakete der Vorgangsgruppe anzeigen. Wenn die Epoche 342 aktiviert ist, kann der Epochenidentifikator auf die Elemente oder Einheiten, wie OXE 324 und IXE 326, im NIC 320 verteilt werden. Beim Empfang eines Pakets kann NIC 320 den Zähler 344 inkrementieren. Andererseits kann NIC 320 den Zähler 344 dekrementieren, wenn das Paket die Paketverarbeitungspipeline verlässt. Folglich kann der Zähler 344 die Anzahl der Pakete der Epoche 342 anzeigen, die sich in der Paketverarbeitungs-Pipeline von NIC 320 befinden.
- Wenn der Prozess die Freigabe des Speichersegments 304 anfordert, kann der Prozess die Freigabeinformationen an den NIC 320 übermitteln. In einigen Ausführungsformen können die Freigabeinformationen einen Befehl enthalten, der von dem Prozess ausgegeben werden kann. Der Befehl kann eine Wartezeit einleiten, bis die Pakete in der Verarbeitungspipeline geleert sind. Nach Erhalt der Freigabeinformationen kann die ATU 328 die Epochen umschalten (oder toggeln) und die Epoche 346 aktivieren. Dadurch kann Epoche 346 zur aktuellen Epoche und Epoche 342 zur vorherigen Epoche werden. Alle nachfolgenden Pakete mit Speicherzugriff können dann anhand des Zählers 348 verfolgt werden. Die späten Pakete, die mit der vorherigen Epoche verbunden sind und sich in der Verarbeitungspipeline befinden, können jedoch weiterhin anhand des Zählers 344 verfolgt werden. Die ATU 328 kann den Zähler 344 weiter dekrementieren, wenn ein der Epoche 342 zugeordnetes spätes Paket die Verarbeitungspipeline der NIC 320 verlässt. Wenn der Zähler 344 auf null sinkt, kann die ATU 328 dem Gerät 300 über HI 322 (z. B. auf der Grundlage eines PCIe-Schreibvorgangs) mitteilen, dass die Verarbeitungspipeline geleert wurde.
- Das Gerät 300 kann dann das Speichersegment 304 freigeben. Ein Teil des Speichersegments 304 (oder seine Gesamtheit) kann dann in das einem anderen Prozess zugewiesene Speichersegment 306 aufgenommen werden. Der Zähler 348 kann dann die von diesem anderen Prozess ausgegebenen Pakete darstellen. Da der Zähler 348 für die Pakete des anderen Prozesses inkrementiert wurde, kann die ATU 328 den Zähler 348 dekrementieren, wenn ein Speicherzugriffsvorgang abgeschlossen ist und das zugehörige Paket die Verarbeitungspipeline verlässt. Wenn der andere Prozess das Speichersegment 306 freigibt, kann die ATU 328 den Umschaltvorgang wiederholen, indem sie zur Epoche 342 wechselt. Auf diese Weise kann die ATU 328 zwischen den Epochen 342 und 346 hin- und herschalten, um verspätete Pakete in der NIC 320 zu identifizieren und zu verfolgen, wodurch die Freigabe eines Speichersegments erleichtert wird, wenn die Pipeline geleert wird.
- IXE 326 kann einen Parser 332 und einen Dispatcher 334 enthalten, wie in Verbindung mit
- Der Dispatcher 334 kann die Epoche 342 auf der Grundlage des Epochenbezeichners im Header eines von anderen Modulen oder Einheiten des NIC 320, wie MST und LPE, empfangenen Pakets identifizieren. Dispatcher 344 kann ein epochenspezifisches Dekrementierungssignal an die ATU 328 für ein entsprechendes Paket senden, das einen Schreibvorgang für das Speichersegment 304 enthalten kann. Eine solche Operation kann eine PUT-Anforderung umfassen, wenn NIC 320 eine Ziel-NIC ist, oder eine GET-Antwort, wenn NIC 320 eine Quell-NIC ist. Der Dispatcher 334 kann das Signal auch dann senden, wenn das Paket einen Fehler aufweist. Beispiele für einen Fehler können ein Fehler sein, der von einer anderen Einheit erkannt wurde, oder ein Betriebsfehler, wie z. B. ein Fehler bei der Adressübersetzung.
- Der Dispatcher 334 kann das Dekrement-Signal aufgrund eines Lese- oder Schreibvorgangs erzeugen. Dispatcher 334 kann die jeweiligen Dekrement-Signale, die mit Lese- und Schreiboperationen verbunden sind, addieren, um ein kombiniertes Dekrement-Signal für ATU 328 zu erzeugen. OXE 324 kann die Epoche 342 anhand des Epochenidentifikators im Header eines von IXE 326 empfangenen Pakets identifizieren. OXE 324 kann ein epochenspezifisches Dekrementierungssignal an ATU 328 für ein entsprechendes Paket senden, das einen Lesevorgang für das Speichersegment 304 enthalten kann. OXE 324 kann das Signal auch dann senden, wenn das Paket einen Fehler aufweist. Auf diese Weise kann die ATU 328 Inkrement- und Dekrement-Signale von OXE 324 und IXE 326 empfangen und die Werte des Zählers 344 entsprechend anpassen, um die Pakete der Epoche 342 zu verfolgen.

Wurde die Wartezeit nicht ausgelöst, kann der NIC mit der Ermittlung von Paketbetriebssignalen fortfahren (Vorgang 404). Wurde die Wartezeit ausgelöst, kann der NIC die Epochen umschalten (Vorgang 412). Das Umschalten kann bewirken, dass die aktuelle Epoche zu einer früheren Epoche und die andere Epoche zur neuen aktuellen Epoche wird. Der NIC kann dann das Paketbetriebssignal während der Wartezeit bestimmen (Vorgang 414). Wenn es sich um ein Ankunftssignal handelt, kann der NIC den neuen aktuellen Zähler (d. h. den der neu aktivierten Epoche zugeordneten Zähler) inkrementieren (Vorgang 416).
- Handelt es sich hingegen um ein Abfahrtssignal, kann der NIC den vorherigen Zähler dekrementieren (Vorgang 418). Anschließend kann der NIC feststellen, ob die Verarbeitungspipeline geleert wurde (d. h., ob der Wert des vorherigen Zählers Null geworden ist) (Vorgang 420). Wenn die Verarbeitungspipeline nicht geleert wurde, kann der NIC während der Wartezeit weiterhin Paketbetriebssignale ermitteln (Vorgang 414). Wird die Verarbeitungspipeline hingegen geleert, kann der NIC dem Host-Gerät mitteilen, dass das Speichersegment für eine spätere Zuweisung freigegeben werden kann (Vorgang 422). Der NIC kann damit fortfahren, Paketbetriebssignale zu ermitteln (Vorgang 404).

- Exemplarisches Computersystem
-
- Das Computersystem 550 kann mit einer Host-Schnittstellenkopplung, einer NIC 520, ausgestattet sein, die eine effiziente Verwaltung von Datenanforderungen ermöglicht. Die NIC 520 kann dem Computersystem 550 eine oder mehrere HNI zur Verfügung stellen. NIC 520 kann über eine der HNI mit einem Switch 502 gekoppelt sein. NIC 520 kann einen Betriebslogikblock 530 (z. B. in einer ATU von NIC 520) und einen Signalisierungslogikblock 540 (z. B. in einer OXE oder IXE von NIC 520) enthalten. Der Betriebslogikblock 530 kann Epochen oder Betriebsgruppen für NIC 520 verwalten und kann einen Verfolgungslogikblock 532, einen Zählerlogikblock 534 und einen Wartelogikblock 536 umfassen.
- Der Signallogikblock 540 kann ein Signal an den Betriebslogikblock 530 senden, das die Ankunft oder das Verlassen eines Pakets aus der Verarbeitungspipeline der NIC 520 anzeigt. Der Tacking-Logikblock 532 kann die Pakete verfolgen, die mit einer Epoche in einer Paketverarbeitungspipeline verbunden sind. Der Zählerlogikblock 534 kann einen Zähler auf der Grundlage eines Signals vom Signalisierungslogikblock 540 inkrementieren oder dekrementieren. Der Wartelogikblock 536 kann feststellen, dass eine Warteanweisung ausgelöst wurde. Dementsprechend kann der Wartelogikblock 536 die Epochen des NIC 520 umschalten. Der Zählerlogikblock 534 kann dann den Zähler der neuen Epoche inkrementieren und den Zähler der vorherigen Epoche dekrementieren, basierend auf dem Signal vom Signalisierungslogikblock 540. Wenn der Zähler der vorherigen Epoche Null wird, kann der Logikblock 532 dem Computersystem 550 mitteilen, dass die Verarbeitungspipeline geleert wurde.
- Zusammenfassend beschreibt die vorliegende Offenlegung einen NIC, der einen effizienten Speicherzugriff vom NIC aus ermöglicht. Der NIC kann mit einem Betriebslogikblock, einem Signalisierungslogikblock und einem Verfolgungslogikblock ausgestattet sein. Der Betriebslogikblock kann eine erste Betriebsgruppe verwalten, die Paketen zugeordnet ist, die einen Betrieb in einem Speichersegment eines Host-Geräts des NIC anfordern. Der Signalisierungslogikblock kann feststellen, ob ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, am NIC angekommen ist oder es verlassen hat. Außerdem kann der Verfolgungslogikblock feststellen, dass eine Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments ausgegeben wurde. Der Verfolgungslogikblock kann dann feststellen, ob mindestens ein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket im NIC in Bearbeitung ist. Wenn im NIC kein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket in Bearbeitung ist, kann der Verfolgungslogikblock dem Host-Gerät mitteilen, dass das Speichersegment freigegeben werden kann.
- Die oben beschriebenen Methoden und Prozesse können von Hardware-Logikblöcken, Modulen, Logikblöcken oder Geräten ausgeführt werden. Zu den Hardware-Logikblöcken, -Modulen, -Logikblöcken oder -Vorrichtungen können unter anderem anwendungsspezifische integrierte Schaltungen (ASIC), feldprogrammierbare Gate-Arrays (FPGAs), dedizierte oder gemeinsam genutzte Prozessoren, die einen Code zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt ausführen, und andere bekannte oder später entwickelte programmierbare Logikvorrichtungen gehören. Wenn die Hardware-Logikblöcke, -Module oder -Geräte aktiviert werden, führen sie die darin enthaltenen Methoden und Prozesse aus.
- Die hier beschriebenen Methoden und Prozesse können auch als Code oder Daten verkörpert werden, die in einem Speichergerät oder computerlesbaren Speichermedium gespeichert werden können. Wenn ein Prozessor den gespeicherten Code oder die Daten liest und ausführt, kann der Prozessor diese Methoden und Prozesse durchführen.
- Die vorstehenden Beschreibungen von Ausführungsformen der vorliegenden Erfindung wurden nur zur Veranschaulichung und Beschreibung vorgelegt. Sie erheben keinen Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit und beschränken die vorliegende Erfindung nicht auf die dargestellten Formen. Dementsprechend werden viele Modifikationen und Variationen für den Fachmann auf dem Gebiet der Technik offensichtlich sein. Außerdem soll die vorliegende Erfindung durch die obige Offenbarung nicht eingeschränkt werden. Der Umfang der vorliegenden Erfindung wird durch die beigefügten Ansprüche definiert.
Claims (20)
- Eine Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung (NIC), die Folgendes umfasst: einen Operationslogikblock, um eine erste Operationsgruppe aufrechtzuerhalten, die Paketen zugeordnet ist, die eine Operation in einem Speichersegment eines Host-Geräts des Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controllers anfordern; einen Signalisierungslogikblock, um festzustellen, ob ein der ersten Betriebsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket an der Netzschnittstellensteuerung angekommen ist oder diese verlassen hat; und einen Logikblock zur Nachverfolgung: feststellen, dass ein Antrag auf Freigabe des Speichersegments gestellt wurde; festzustellen, ob mindestens ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, in der Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung verarbeitet wird; und als Reaktion auf die Feststellung, dass kein mit der ersten Vorgangsgruppe verbundenes Paket in der Netzschnittstellensteuerung verarbeitet wird, dem Hostgerät mitteilen, dass das Speichersegment freigegeben werden kann.
- Die Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei der Verfolgungslogikblock weiterhin dazu dient: Inkrementieren eines ersten Zählers, der der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, als Reaktion auf ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist und an der Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung ankommt; und Dekrementieren des ersten Zählers als Reaktion auf ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist und den Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller verlässt. - Die Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 2 , wobei der Verfolgungslogikblock ferner dazu dient, auf der Grundlage eines Wertes des ersten Zählers festzustellen, dass in dem Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller kein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket in Bearbeitung ist. - Die Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 2 , wobei der Signalisierungslogikblock ferner dazu dient, ein Signal zum Inkrementieren oder Dekrementieren des ersten Zählers auf der Grundlage der Erkennung der Einleitung bzw. des Abschlusses einer Operation auf dem Speichersegment zu erzeugen, wobei die Operation in einem Paket der ersten Operationsgruppe angezeigt wird. - Die Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 4 , wobei die Beendigung der Operation die Erkennung eines Fehlers für die Operation umfasst. - Die Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei als Reaktion auf die Erkennung einer Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments der Betriebslogikblock ferner von einer ersten Betriebsgruppe zu einer zweiten Betriebsgruppe umschaltet, die Paketen zugeordnet ist, die nach der Freigabe eine Operation auf dem Speichersegment anfordern. - Die Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 6 , wobei der Verfolgungslogikblock ferner dazu dient, einen zweiten Zähler, der der zweiten Betriebsgruppe zugeordnet ist, als Reaktion auf ein Paket, das der zweiten Betriebsgruppe zugeordnet ist und am Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller ankommt, zu erhöhen. - Die Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei der Verfolgungslogikblock als Reaktion auf die Feststellung, dass mindestens ein mit der ersten Operationsgruppe verbundenes Paket in dem Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller verarbeitet wird, ferner dazu dient, die Host-Vorrichtung nicht zu benachrichtigen, dass das Speichersegment freigegeben werden kann. - Die Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei ein jeweiliges Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, einer Operation entspricht, die von einem Prozess ausgegeben wird, der auf einem entfernten Gerät läuft, wobei das Speichersegment dem Prozess zugewiesen ist. - Die Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei der Verfolgungslogikblock ferner dazu dient, festzustellen, dass die Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments auf der Grundlage eines Befehls ausgegeben wurde, der an den Netzwerkschnittstellencontroller über eine der folgenden Schnittstellen ausgegeben wurde: eine Peripheral-Component-Interconnect-Express-Schnittstelle (PCIe) oder eine Compute-Express-Link-Schnittstelle (CXL). - Ein Verfahren, das Folgendes umfasst: Aufrechterhaltung einer ersten Operationsgruppe in einem Netzwerk-Schnittstellen-Controller (NIC), die Paketen zugeordnet ist, die eine Operation auf einem Speichersegment eines Host-Geräts des NIC anfordern; Bestimmen, ob ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, am NIC angekommen ist oder diesen verlassen hat; Feststellung, dass eine Anfrage zur Freigabe des Speichersegments gestellt wurde; Bestimmen, ob mindestens ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, in der NIC verarbeitet wird; und als Reaktion auf die Feststellung, dass kein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket in der NIC verarbeitet wird, das Host-Gerät benachrichtigen, dass das Speichersegment freigegeben werden kann.
- Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 umfasst ferner: Inkrementieren eines ersten Zählers, der der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, als Reaktion auf ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist und an der NIC ankommt; und Dekrementieren des ersten Zählers als Reaktion auf ein Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist und die NIC verlässt. - Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 12 , das ferner die Feststellung umfasst, dass in der NIC auf der Grundlage eines Wertes des ersten Zählers kein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket in Bearbeitung ist. - Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 12 , das ferner das Erzeugen eines Signals zum Inkrementieren oder Dekrementieren des ersten Zählers auf der Grundlage des Erkennens einer Einleitung bzw. eines Abschlusses einer Operation auf dem Speichersegment umfasst, wobei die Operation in einem Paket der ersten Operationsgruppe angezeigt wird. - Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 14 , wobei der Abschluss des Vorgangs das Erkennen eines Fehlers für den Vorgang umfasst. - Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , das ferner als Reaktion auf das Erkennen einer Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments das Umschalten von einer ersten Operationsgruppe zu einer zweiten Operationsgruppe umfasst, die Paketen zugeordnet ist, die nach der Freigabe eine Operation auf dem Speichersegment anfordern. - Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 16 , ferner umfassend das Inkrementieren eines zweiten Zählers, der der zweiten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, als Reaktion auf ein Paket, das der zweiten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist und an der NIC ankommt. - Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , das ferner umfasst, dass als Reaktion auf die Feststellung, dass mindestens ein der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnetes Paket im NIC verarbeitet wird, die Host-Vorrichtung nicht benachrichtigt wird, dass das Speichersegment freigegeben werden kann. - Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , wobei ein jeweiliges Paket, das der ersten Operationsgruppe zugeordnet ist, einer Operation entspricht, die von einem Prozess ausgegeben wird, der auf einem entfernten Gerät läuft, wobei das Speichersegment dem Prozess zugewiesen ist. - Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , das ferner die Feststellung umfasst, dass die Anforderung zur Freigabe des Speichersegments auf der Grundlage eines Befehls ausgegeben wurde, der an die NIC über eine der folgenden Schnittstellen ausgegeben wurde: eine PCIe-Schnittstelle (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) oder eine CXL-Schnittstelle (Compute Express Link).
