Abstract
Ein Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller (NIC), der eine feinkörnige Flusssteuerung (FGFC) ermöglicht, wird bereitgestellt. Der NIC kann mit einer Netzwerkschnittstelle, einem FGFC-Logikblock und einem Verkehrsmanagement-Logikblock ausgestattet sein. Während des Betriebs kann die Netzwerkschnittstelle feststellen, dass ein Steuerrahmen von einem Switch mit FGFC verbunden ist. Die Netzwerkschnittstelle kann dann einen im Steuerrahmen angegebenen Datenfluss identifizieren, um den FGFC anzuwenden. Der FGFC-Logikblock kann Informationen aus dem Kontrollrahmen in einen Eintrag einer im NIC gespeicherten Datenstruktur einfügen. Der Logikblock für das Verkehrsmanagement kann den Eintrag in der Datenstruktur auf der Grundlage eines oder mehrerer Felder eines zum Datenfluss gehörenden Pakets identifizieren. - ZUSAMMENFASSUNG
- Ein Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller (NIC), der eine feinkörnige Flusssteuerung (FGFC) ermöglicht, wird bereitgestellt. - AUSFÜHRLICHE BESCHREIBUNG

Daher ist die vorliegende Erfindung nicht auf die gezeigten Ausführungsformen beschränkt.
- Übersicht
- Die vorliegende Offenbarung beschreibt Systeme und Verfahren, die eine feinkörnige Flusssteuerung (FGFC) in einem Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller (NIC) ermöglichen. Die NIC ermöglicht es einem Host, mit einem datengesteuerten Netzwerk zu kommunizieren. Das Netzwerk kann dynamischen Datenverkehr mit schneller, effektiver Staukontrolle bewältigen, indem es Zustandsinformationen einzelner Paketströme aufrechterhält. Genauer gesagt können Pakete, die in das Switch-Netzwerk eingespeist werden, in Streams kategorisiert werden, die ihren Schicht-2-, Schicht-3- oder anderen protokollspezifischen Header-Informationen zugeordnet werden können. Jeder Datenstrom kann durch eine eindeutige Kennung markiert werden, die einem Eingangsport eines Switches zugeordnet ist, und mit einem Datenstrom-spezifischen Eingangspuffer versehen werden, so dass jeder Datenstrom individuell gesteuert werden kann. Darüber hinaus können Pakete eines jeweiligen Datenstroms beim Erreichen des Ausgangspunkts des Netzes bestätigt werden, und die Bestätigungspakete können auf demselben Datenpfad in umgekehrter Richtung zum Eingangspunkt des Datenstroms zurückgeschickt werden. Auf diese Weise kann jeder Switch Zustandsinformationen über aktive Paketströme erhalten, die er weiterleitet, und eine sehr reaktionsschnelle, strömungsspezifische Flusssteuerung durchführen. Durch eine solche Flusssteuerung kann das Netz mit höherer Kapazität betrieben werden und bietet gleichzeitig vielseitige Möglichkeiten zur Verkehrssteuerung.
- Die hier beschriebenen Ausführungsformen lösen das Problem des Staumanagements auf der Ebene des Datenflusses, indem sie (i) einen stauverursachenden Datenfluss in der Netzwerkkarte identifizieren und (ii) die Weiterleitungsrate für Pakete, die zu diesem Datenfluss gehören, in der Netzwerkkarte drosseln.
- Bei einer Überlastung eines Netzes, z. B. einer Switch-Fabric, können die Paketpuffer der Switches im Netz erschöpft sein. Mit den vorhandenen Technologien kann ein Switch, der mit einer Überlastung konfrontiert ist, einen vorgelagerten Switch anweisen, die Paketinjektionsrate für eine bestimmte Verkehrsklasse anzuhalten oder zu verlangsamen. Dieser Ansatz der Überlastungssteuerung auf Klassenebene kann sich jedoch auf alle Datenströme der Klasse auswirken. So kann beispielsweise der Datenverkehr von mehreren Anwendungen zur gleichen Verkehrsklasse gehören. Folglich können Pakete, die die Überlastung nicht verursachen, von einer solchen Staukontrollpolitik nachteilig beeinflusst werden.
- Um dieses Problem zu lösen, kann der überlastete Switch flussspezifische Überlastungsmeldungen an einen Verbindungspartner übermitteln, bei dem es sich um eine Netzwerkkarte in einem Host-Gerät handeln kann. Die Überlastungsmeldung kann einen „Gegendruck“ auf eine Folge von Paketen erzeugen, die zu dem die Überlastung verursachenden Fluss gehört (z. B. ein Fluss auf Internetprotokoll- (IP-) Ebene oder auf Anwendungsebene), anstatt den Verkehr von allen Anwendungen und Diensten einer Verkehrsklasse zu drosseln. Durch die Erkennung von Engpässen auf Flow-Ebene kann der Switch der Netzwerkkarte ermöglichen, die Fine-Grain Flow Control (FGFC) zu erleichtern.
- In einigen Ausführungsformen kann ein Switch bei der Erkennung einer Überlastung eine Folge von Paketen identifizieren, die diese Überlastung verursacht haben. Eine solche Abfolge von Paketen kann als Fluss bezeichnet werden. Der Switch kann dann diese Informationen an den Verbindungspartner, z. B. einen NIC, weitergeben, indem er einen „Abschalt“-Kontrollrahmen sendet, der als XOFF-Rahmen bezeichnet werden kann. Beim Empfang des XOFF-Frames kann der NIC das Senden von Paketen für diesen Fluss unterlassen und die Pakete im NIC puffern. Der NIC verlässt sich dann auf den Switch, um den Fluss zu verwalten. Je nach Überlastung des Datenflusses kann der Switch Kontroll-Frames, die auch als Credit-Frames bezeichnet werden können, an den NIC senden.
- Nach dem Empfang der Credit Frames kann der NIC mehr Pakete, die zu dem Fluss gehören, an den Switch weiterleiten, und zwar entsprechend der in den Credit Frames angegebenen Menge. Auf diese Weise kann der NIC die Anzahl der Pakete für den Fluss begrenzen und gleichzeitig eine reguläre Weiterleitung für andere Flüsse ermöglichen. Wenn die Überlastung gemildert ist, kann der Switch einen „Einschalt“-Kontrollrahmen senden, der als XON-Rahmen bezeichnet werden kann. Beim Empfang des XON-Frames gibt der NIC den Fluss aus dem FGFC frei und leitet die reguläre Weiterleitung für die zum Fluss gehörenden Pakete ein.
- Eine Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung sieht einen NIC vor. Der NIC kann mit einer Netzwerkschnittstelle, einem FGFC-Logikblock und einem Verkehrsmanagement-Logikblock ausgestattet sein. Während des Betriebs kann die Netzwerkschnittstelle feststellen, dass ein Steuerrahmen von einem Switch mit FGFC verbunden ist. Die Netzwerkschnittstelle kann dann einen im Steuerrahmen angegebenen Datenfluss identifizieren, um den FGFC anzuwenden. Der FGFC-Logikblock kann Informationen aus dem Kontrollrahmen in einen Eintrag einer im NIC gespeicherten Datenstruktur einfügen. Der Logikblock für das Verkehrsmanagement kann den Eintrag in der Datenstruktur auf der Grundlage eines oder mehrerer Felder eines zum Datenfluss gehörenden Pakets identifizieren. Anschließend kann der Logikblock für die Verkehrsverwaltung auf der Grundlage der Informationen in dem Eintrag bestimmen, ob das Paket weitergeleitet werden darf.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann die Netzschnittstelle auf der Grundlage des Typs des Kontrollrahmens bestimmen, ob der Kontrollrahmen an der Netzschnittstelle verarbeitet werden soll.
- In einer weiteren Variante kann die Netzschnittstelle Informationen aus einem oder mehreren Feldern des Kontrollrahmens an den Verkehrsmanagement-Logikblock liefern, die auf dem Typ des Kontrollrahmens basieren.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann die Netzschnittstelle ein Ereignis für den Datenfluss auf der Grundlage eines Dauerwerts und eines Kreditwerts aus den Informationen im Kontrollrahmen erzeugen. Bei dem Ereignis kann es sich um eine interne Kontrollnachricht handeln, die angibt, ob der FGFC für den Fluss eingeleitet oder beendet werden soll.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann der FGFC-Logikblock die Informationen in den Eintrag einfügen, indem er: (i) Bestimmen eines Dauerwerts für die Anwendung des FGFC auf den Fluss auf der Grundlage der Informationen im Steuerrahmen, und (ii) Aktualisieren eines Dauerzählers im Eintrag auf der Grundlage des Dauerwerts.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann der FGFC-Logikblock die Informationen in den Eintrag einfügen, indem er (i) Bestimmen von Kreditinformationen, die eine Datenmenge des Flusses angeben, die weitergeleitet werden kann, aus den Informationen im Steuerrahmen, und (ii) Aktualisieren eines Dauerzählers im Eintrag auf der Grundlage des Dauerwertes.
- In einer weiteren Variante kann der Verkehrsmanagement-Logikblock das Paket einer Message Chopping Unit (MCU) aus einer Vielzahl von MCUs zuweisen. Der Logikblock für die Verkehrsverwaltung kann dann zwischen den mehreren MCUs entscheiden, um eine MCU für die Weiterleitung des Pakets auf der Grundlage des Kreditwerts im Eintrag auszuwählen.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann der FGFC-Logikblock die Informationen in den Eintrag einfügen, indem er: (i) Bestimmung, ob ein oder mehrere Felder mit einem bestehenden Eintrag in der Datenstruktur übereinstimmen, (ii) Bestimmung eines neuen Eintrags in der Datenstruktur, wenn keine Übereinstimmung gefunden wird, und (iii) Einfügen von Informationen aus dem einen oder mehreren Feldern in den neuen Eintrag.
- In einer weiteren Variante kann der FGFC-Logikblock feststellen, ob die Datenstruktur für einen neuen Eintrag verfügbar ist. Wenn die Datenstruktur nicht verfügbar ist, kann der FGFC-Logikblock den Kontrollrahmen verwerfen.
- In einer Variante dieser Ausführungsform kann der Eintrag eines oder mehrere der folgenden Elemente enthalten: einen Identifikator des Datenflusses, der der Index des Eintrags sein kann, ein Gültigkeitsflag, das anzeigt, ob der Eintrag gültig ist, einen Zeitdauerzähler, der einen Zeitdauerwert für die Anwendung von FGFC auf den Datenfluss anzeigt, einen Kreditwert, der eine Datenmenge des Datenflusses anzeigt, die weitergeleitet werden kann, und einen Ereigniswarteschlangenidentifikator.

HI 210 kann über eine Host-Verbindung 201 mit einem Host gekoppelt werden, die N (z. B. N kann bei einigen Chips 16 sein) PCle Gen 4-Lanes umfassen kann, die mit Signalraten von bis zu 25 Gbit/s pro Lane arbeiten können. - Der NIC 202 kann eine Befehlswarteschlangeneinheit (CQ) 230 enthalten. Die CQ-Einheit 230 kann für das Abrufen und Ausgeben von hostseitigen Befehlen zuständig sein. Die CQ-Einheit 230 kann Befehlswarteschlangen 232 und Scheduler 234 umfassen. Die Befehlswarteschlangen 232 können zwei unabhängige Sätze von Warteschlangen für Initiatorbefehle (PUT, GET usw.) bzw. Zielbefehle (Append, Search usw.) umfassen. Die Befehlswarteschlangen 232 können als zirkuläre Puffer implementiert werden, die im Speicher der NIC 202 gehalten werden. Darüber hinaus kann die CQ-Einheit 230 ein Modul für ausgelöste Operationen (oder einen Logikblock) 238 enthalten, das für die Einreihung und Abfertigung ausgelöster Befehle zuständig ist.
- Die Outbound Transfer Engine (OXE) 240 kann Befehle aus den Ablaufwarteschlangen 236 abrufen, um sie für den Versand zu verarbeiten. OXE 240 kann eine Adressübersetzungsanforderungseinheit (ATRU) 244 enthalten, die Adressübersetzungsanforderungen an die Adressübersetzungseinheit (ATU) 212 senden kann. - Anschließend kann das ausgewählte Paket an die Paket- und Verbindungsverfolgung (PCT) 270 gesendet werden. PCT 270 kann das Paket in einer Warteschlange 274 speichern. PCT 270 kann auch Statusinformationen für ausgehende Befehle verwalten und die Statusinformationen aktualisieren, wenn Antworten zurückgegeben werden. PCT 270 kann auch Paketstatusinformationen (z. B. um Antworten mit Anfragen abzugleichen), Nachrichtenstatusinformationen (z. B. um den Fortschritt von Nachrichten mit mehreren Paketen zu verfolgen), Initiator-Abschlussstatusinformationen und Wiederholungsstatusinformationen (z. B. um die Informationen zu erhalten, die erforderlich sind, um einen Befehl zu wiederholen, wenn eine Anfrage oder eine Antwort verloren geht) verwalten. Wenn eine Antwort nicht innerhalb einer bestimmten Zeitspanne zurückkommt, kann der entsprechende Befehl im Wiederholungspuffer 272 gespeichert werden. PCT 270 kann die Verbindungsverwaltung für Initiator- und Zielbefehle auf der Grundlage von Quelltabellen 276 bzw. Zieltabellen 278 erleichtern. PCT 270 kann zum Beispiel seine Quelltabellen 276 aktualisieren, um den notwendigen Zustand für eine zuverlässige Zustellung des Pakets und die Benachrichtigung über den Abschluss der Nachricht zu verfolgen. PCT 270 kann ausgehende Pakete an HNI 220 weiterleiten, die die Pakete in der ausgehenden Warteschlange 222 speichert.
- Die NIC 202 kann auch ein IXE 250 enthalten, das die Paketverarbeitung übernimmt, wenn die NIC 202 ein Ziel oder ein Bestimmungsort ist. IXE 250 kann die eingehenden Pakete von HNI 220 abrufen. Parser 256 kann die eingehenden Pakete parsen und die entsprechenden Paketinformationen an eine List Processing Engine (LPE) 264 oder eine Message State Table (MST) 266 zum Abgleich weiterleiten. LPE 264 kann eingehende Nachrichten mit Puffern abgleichen. LPE 264 kann den Puffer und die Startadresse bestimmen, die von jeder Nachricht verwendet werden sollen. LPE 264 kann auch einen Pool von Listeneinträgen 262 verwalten, die zur Darstellung von Puffern und unerwarteten Nachrichten verwendet werden. MST 266 kann Abgleichsergebnisse und die für die Erzeugung von zielseitigen Abschlussereignissen erforderlichen Informationen speichern. MST 266 kann von uneingeschränkten Operationen verwendet werden, einschließlich PUT-Befehlen mit mehreren Paketen und GET-Befehlen mit einem oder mehreren Paketen.
- Anschließend kann der Parser 256 die Pakete im Paketspeicher 254 speichern. Das IXE 250 kann die Ergebnisse des Abgleichs für die Konfliktprüfung abrufen. Das DMA-Schreib- und AMO-Modul 252 kann dann Aktualisierungen des Speichers vornehmen, die durch Schreib- und AMO-Operationen erzeugt werden. Das NIC 202 kann auch einen EE 216 enthalten, der Anforderungen zur Erzeugung von Ereignisbenachrichtigungen von anderen Modulen oder Einheiten im NIC 202 empfangen kann. Eine Ereignismeldung kann angeben, dass entweder ein Füll- oder ein Zählereignis erzeugt wird. EE 216 kann Ereignis-Warteschlangen verwalten, die sich im Speicher des Host-Prozessors befinden und in die sie vollständige Ereignisse schreibt. EE 216 kann Zählereignisse an die CQ-Einheit 230 weiterleiten.
- Überlastungsmanagement im NIC

- Der FGFC-Identifikator kann eines oder mehrere der folgenden Elemente enthalten: einen virtuellen Netzwerkidentifikator (VNI), eine VLAN-ID, ein IPv4-Flow-Label und ein IPv6-Flow-Label. Die FGFC-FID kann einen vorbestimmten Wert enthalten, der mit einem entsprechenden FGFC-Frame verbunden ist. Die PID kann auf der Grundlage einer OUI ausgedrückt werden, was darauf hinweisen kann, dass die Verbindungspartner von unterstützten Anbietern sind und möglicherweise das gleiche Protokoll unterstützen. Anstatt eine Verkehrsklasse für die Flusskontrolle anzugeben, kann die NIC 202 einen Fluss auf der Grundlage der VNI identifizieren, die auf einer Quell-IP-Adresse und einem Hash über eine Reihe von Feldern eines Pakets basieren kann, wie z. B. einem Protokolltyp, Quell- und Ziel-IP-Adressen und Quell- und Ziel-Ports usw. VNIs können von NIC 202 hinzugefügt werden, wenn NIC 202 eine Quell-NIC ist, und können von NIC 202 entfernt werden, wenn NIC 202 eine Ziel-NIC ist. VNIs können von den Ingress- und Egress-Switches einer Switch-Fabric überprüft werden.
- NIC 202 kann Ethernet-basierten oder API-basierten FGFC ermöglichen. Wenn der Verbindungspartner von NIC 202 beispielsweise Portals API unterstützt, kann NIC 202 API-basierten FGFC für den Verbindungspartner bereitstellen. Unterstützt der Verbindungspartner hingegen Ethernet-basierte Kommunikation, kann NIC 202 Ethernet-basierten FGFC bereitstellen. Nach dem Empfang von Frame 280 kann HNI 220 eine Reihe von Feldern von Frame 280 untersuchen, wie z. B. die DMAC-Adresse, den Ethertype, die PID und die FID, um festzustellen, dass Frame 280 ein FGFC-Frame ist. In einigen Ausführungsformen kann die HNI 220 eine Reihe von Steuer- und Statusregistern (CSRs) unterhalten, um die erwarteten Informationen zu speichern und die Felder mit dem entsprechenden CSR abzugleichen. B. einem Portal-API, oder einem Ethernet-, IPv4- oder IPv6-Protokoll basiert. Die HNI 220 kann für jeden dieser Typen einen CSR führen. Wenn der FGFC-Typ von Frame 280 keinem der Typen entspricht, kann HNI 220 eine Fehlermeldung ausgeben und Frame 280 verwerfen. Wenn der FGFC-Typ auf API-basierten FGFC hinweist, kann HNI 220 die Pausenzeit, den FGFC-Guthabenwert und den unteren Teil des Identifiers (z. B. die unteren 16 Bits) von Frame 280 an OXE 240 zur weiteren Verarbeitung weitergeben. Andererseits kann HNI 220, wenn der FGFC-Typ Ethernet, IPv4 oder IPv6 angibt, feststellen, dass Frame 280 ein Ethernet-basierter FGFC-Frame ist. In einigen Ausführungsformen kann HNI 220 dann Frame 280 in HNI 220 verarbeiten. NIC 202 kann Frame 280 auch an jedem anderen Element von NIC 202 verarbeiten. - Der FGFC-Cache 320 kann eine Vielzahl von Einträgen haben, von denen jeder Informationen speichern kann, die mit einem Datenfluss verbunden sind. Zum Beispiel kann der FGFC-Cache 320 einen Cache-Eintrag 322 enthalten, der mit einem Datenfluss verbundene Informationen wie ein Gültigkeitsfeld (z. B. ein Flag), ein Typfeld, ein Tag für die Quell-IP-Adresse, ein Identifizierungsfeld, ein EQ-Identifizierungsfeld und einen Pausenzähler enthalten kann. Das Gültigkeitsfeld kann anzeigen, ob der Eintrag 322 gültig ist. Das Typfeld kann einen FGFC-Typ für Eintrag 322 angeben. Das Quell-IP-Adress-Tag kann einen Typ für eine Quell-IP-Adresse für Eintrag 322 angeben. Das Tag kann z. B. einen ganzzahligen Wert von 0 bis 3 enthalten, der jeweils einen Typ von IP-Adresse angibt. Ein Wert von 0 kann einen Layer-2-Frame anzeigen. Das Identifier-Feld kann einen 32-Bit-Identifier aus Frame 300 speichern, der mit dem Tag verbunden ist. Im Feld „EQ-Kennung“ kann die EQ-Kennung gespeichert werden, die aus der übereinstimmenden Adresse ermittelt wurde. Darüber hinaus kann der Pausenzähler auf der Grundlage des Ethernet-Pausenstandards periodisch dekrementiert werden. Der Pausenzähler kann aus einem FGFC-Frame geladen und im Laufe der Zeit auf der Grundlage der Pausenquanten dekrementiert werden.
- Wenn die HNI 220 eine Adresse des Rahmens 300 erfolgreich mit einer in den CSRs 310 gespeicherten Adresse abgleichen kann, kann die HNI 220 feststellen, ob der Cache 320 aktiviert ist. Wenn der Cache 320 deaktiviert ist, kann jeder Rahmen, der mit einer Adresse in den CSRs 310 übereinstimmt, ein Ereignis erzeugen (z. B. zur Verwaltung durch EE 216 in

HNI 220 kann auch ein XOFF-Ereignis weiterleiten, das den in Rahmen 300 angegebenen Kreditwert enthalten kann. Wenn andererseits der Cache 320 nicht verfügbar ist und Rahmen 300 einen Pausenzeitwert ungleich Null enthält, kann HNI 220 Rahmen 300 verwerfen, ohne ein Ereignis zu erzeugen. Wenn Rahmen 300 einen Pausenzeitwert von Null enthält, kann HNI 220 ein XON-Ereignis weiterleiten, das den in Rahmen 300 angegebenen Kreditwert enthalten kann.
- Wenn ein Eintrag im Cache 320 einen Pausenzählerwert hat, der unter dem Pausenquantum liegt, kann HNI 220 ein Flag für den Eintrag setzen, das anzeigt, dass HNI 220 ein XON-Ereignis erzeugen sollte. HNI 220 kann einen Round-Robin-Arbitrierungsprozess anwenden, um den Eintrag auszuwählen. Anschließend kann die HNI 220 den Eintrag ungültig machen und ein Ereignis weiterleiten. Das Ereignis kann einen XON-Status für die EQ-Kennung des Eintrags anzeigen. Wenn jedoch ein nachfolgender FGFC-Frame eintrifft, bevor der Eintrag über die Arbitrierung ausgewählt wurde, kann die HNI 220 den Pausenzähler im Eintrag aktualisieren und die Anforderung der Arbitrierung für den Eintrag entfernen. Die EQ-Kennung des Eintrags kann verwendet werden, um die Ziel-Ereignis-Warteschlange zu lokalisieren. In einigen Ausführungsformen kann HNI 220 die Arbitrierung auf der Grundlage des Takts der NIC 202 durchführen, wenn kein Ethernet-basierter FGFC-Rahmen eingeht, der mit einer Adresse übereinstimmt, und die Warteschlange 222 verfügbar ist.
- Die Warteschlange 222 ermöglicht es HNI 220 HNI, eine kleine Anzahl von FGFC-Frames zu verarbeiten, wenn EE 216 überlastet ist. Ereignisse, die aus einem früheren Zustand weitergeleitet wurden, können in die Warteschlange 222 eingefügt werden. Wenn die Warteschlange 222 voll ist, kann das erzeugte Ereignis verworfen werden. Ein entsprechender Eintrag der Warteschlange 222, z. B. Eintrag 324, kann einen Rückgabecode, ein Typfeld, eine Kennung für eine Quell-IP-Adresse, ein Kennungsfeld, Kreditinformationen, einen XOFF-Indikator, eine EQ-Kennung und einen Ereignistyp enthalten. Der Rückgabecode kann auf eine Konstante gesetzt werden, die eine gültige Rückgabe anzeigt. Das Typfeld kann angeben, ob Frame 300 Ethernet, IPv4 oder IPv6 entspricht. Das Tag für die Quell-IP kann einen Typ der IP-Adresse der Quelladresse von Frame 300 angeben. Die jeweiligen Werte für die Felder „Identifier“ und „Credit“ können aus den entsprechenden Feldern in Frame 300 entnommen werden. Der XOFF-Indikator kann angeben, ob ein XOFF-Ereignis erzeugt werden soll. Im Feld EQ-Kennung kann die EQ-Kennung gespeichert werden, die sich aus der übereinstimmenden Adresse ergibt. Außerdem kann das Feld für den Ereignistyp auf Ethernet gesetzt werden. Die jeweiligen Werte für die Felder Typ, Tag, Kennung und EQ-Kennung können aus dem Cache 320 abgerufen werden, wenn für ein XON-Ereignis eine Zeitüberschreitung im Cache auftritt. Darüber hinaus kann der Wert des Feldes Credits für das Cache-Timeout-Ereignis auf Null gesetzt werden.
- Gibt der FGFC-Typ hingegen API-basierten FGFC an, kann HNI 220 die mit Frame 300 verbundenen Informationen 350 an OXE 240 zur weiteren Verarbeitung weitergeben. Die Information 350 kann den Wert der Pausenzeit, den FGFC-Kreditwert und den unteren Teil des Identifikators (z. B. die unteren 16 Bits) von Frame 300 enthalten. OXE 240 kann dann die Informationen 350 in einer FGFC-Tabelle 330 speichern. NIC 202 kann Pakete, die zu einem FGFC-unterworfenen Fluss gehören, unter Verwendung der Tabelle 330 drosseln. Die Tabelle 330 kann eine Vielzahl von Einträgen enthalten. Ein entsprechender Eintrag der Tabelle 330, z. B. Eintrag 332, kann ein VNI-Feld, ein Gültigkeitsfeld (z. B. ein Flag), ein Kreditfeld und einen Pausenzähler enthalten. Diese Felder können jeweils 16 Bit, 1 Bit, 24 Bit und 32 Bit umfassen.
- OXE 240 kann das VNI-Feld mit einem eingehenden FGFC-Paket abgleichen und aus der MCU 246 ein MCU-Modul bestimmen, das weitere Pakete senden darf. Das Feld valid kann anzeigen, ob eine VNI gültig ist. Im Credit-Feld kann die Summe der Credit-Werte gespeichert werden, die in den FGFC-Frames, z. B. Frame 300, empfangen wurden. In einigen Ausführungsformen erlaubt jedes Guthaben einem MCU-Modul, ein Byte weiterzuleiten. Wenn der Wert des Credit-Feldes negativ wird, kann in der Tabelle 330 zu wenig Credit zum Senden eines Pakets vorhanden sein. Dem Credit-Feld kann ein Maximalwert zugeordnet werden (d. h. ein Höchstwert, auf den das Credit erhöht werden kann). Der Pausenzähler kann der Ethernet-Pause entsprechen. Die oberen 16 Bits können aus Frame 300 geladen werden. Die unteren 16 Bits können einen Bruchteil darstellen, der mit der Zeit auf der Grundlage der Pausenquanten dekrementiert werden kann.
- Nach der Klassifizierung von Frame 300 als API-basierter FGFC-Frame kann HNI 220 Frame 300 zur Verarbeitung an OXE 240 weiterleiten, wenn Tabelle 330 aktiviert ist. Wenn Rahmen 300 mit einem gültigen Eintrag für die VNI in Rahmen 300 übereinstimmt und Rahmen 300 einen Pausenzeitwert von Null hat, kann OXE 240 den Eintrag als ungültig markieren. Wenn Rahmen 300 mit einem gültigen Eintrag für die VNI in Rahmen 300 übereinstimmt und Rahmen 300 einen Pausenzeitwert ungleich Null hat, kann OXE 240 den Guthabenwert im Eintrag auf der Grundlage des in Rahmen 300 angegebenen Guthabens erhöhen und den Pausenzähler auf der Grundlage des Pausenwerts von Rahmen 300 aktualisieren. Wenn Rahmen 300 nicht mit einem gültigen Eintrag übereinstimmt und Tabelle 330 verfügbar ist (z. B. eine Leitung in Tabelle 300 ist verfügbar), kann OXE 240 einen Eintrag in Tabelle 330 erstellen, indem es die VNI, den Kreditwert und den Pausenwert aus Rahmen 300 in den Eintrag einfügt. Das anfängliche Guthaben kann von einer Guthabenanpassungskonstante subtrahiert werden. In einigen Ausführungsformen kann der Standardwert für diese Konstante als (MTU + maximale Headergröße + FCS) bestimmt werden. FCS steht hier für eine Rahmenprüfsequenz. Wenn Frame 300 nicht mit einem gültigen Eintrag übereinstimmt und die Tabelle 330 nicht verfügbar ist, kann OXE 240 Frame 300 verwerfen.

- Wenn kein Eintrag mit dem Paket 360 übereinstimmt, kann OXE 240 die Weiterleitung des Pakets 360 erlauben und es in den Ausgabepuffer 242 stellen. Wenn ein Eintrag existiert und das Guthaben im Eintrag nicht negativ ist, kann OXE 240 die Weiterleitung von Paket 360 erlauben und einen Guthabenbetrag vom Guthabenfeld des passenden Eintrags abziehen. Der Betrag des Guthabens kann wie folgt bestimmt werden:
[(byte_len + extra_bytes + 2round_pos - 1) & ~(2round_pos - 1)].
Liegt jedoch ein Eintrag vor und ist das Guthaben negativ, kann OXE 240 ein FGFC-Flag für das MCU-Modul 306 setzen und das Paket 360 verwerfen (z. B. durch Disqualifizierung der Auswahl des MCU-Moduls 306 im Arbitrierungsprozess). - Da das FGFC-Flag des MCU-Moduls 306 gesetzt ist, kann das Arbitrierungsmodul 340 das MCU-Modul 306 aus der Arbitrierung herausnehmen. OXE 240 kann den Index des entsprechenden Eintrags (d. h. des Eintrags, der mit Paket 360 übereinstimmt) der Tabelle 330 speichern. OXE 240 kann dann den Eintrag auf der Grundlage des Indexes überwachen. Wenn der Eintrag ungültig wird oder der Guthabenwert im Eintrag auf einen nicht-negativen Wert erhöht wird, kann OXE 240 das FGFC-Flag des MCU-Moduls 306 löschen. Wenn das FGFC-Flag gelöscht ist, kann das Arbitrierungsmodul 340 das MCU-Modul 306 in den Arbitrierungsprozess einbeziehen. Wenn FGFC auf ein MCU-Modul angewendet wird, kann sich dieses MCU-Modul zusätzlich zur Auswahl des MCU-Moduls auf der Grundlage des Guthabens während des Arbitrierungsprozesses in einem „In-Order“-Modus befinden. Folglich kann dieses MCU-Modul Pakete entsprechend ihrer Reihenfolge weiterleiten, bis das MCU-Modul dem FGFC unterliegt.

- Wenn der Rahmen nicht mit einem Eintrag im FGFC-Cache übereinstimmt (Vorgänge 404 und 406), kann die HNI prüfen, ob der Cache verfügbar ist (Vorgang 408). Wenn der Cache verfügbar ist, kann die HNI einen Eintrag mit einem Pausenzähler erstellen, der auf dem von Null verschiedenen Pausenwert des Rahmens basiert, und ein XOFF-Ereignis mit dem Guthaben aus dem Rahmen weiterleiten (Vorgang 418). Wenn der Cache nicht verfügbar ist, kann die HNI prüfen, ob der Rahmen einen Pausenwert ungleich Null hat (Vorgang 410). Wenn der Rahmen einen Pausenwert ungleich Null hat, kann die HNI ein XON-Ereignis mit dem Guthaben aus dem Rahmen weiterleiten (Vorgang 420). Wenn der Rahmen hingegen keinen Pausenwert ungleich Null hat (d. h. einen Pausenwert von Null), kann die HNI den Rahmen zurückstellen (Vorgang 412) (z. B. kann sie warten, bis mehr Guthaben ankommt).

- Wenn der Frame nicht mit einem Eintrag in der FGFC-Tabelle übereinstimmt (Vorgänge 434 und 436), kann der OXE prüfen, ob die Tabelle verfügbar ist (Vorgang 438). Wenn die Tabelle verfügbar ist, kann der OXE einen Eintrag in der FGFC-Tabelle mit einem Pausenzähler und einem Guthabenwert erstellen und einen Standard-Guthabenwert abziehen (Vorgang 446). Der Pausenzähler kann auf dem Pausenwert ungleich Null und der Guthabenwert auf dem Guthaben aus dem Frame basieren. Wenn der Cache nicht verfügbar ist, kann die OXE den Rahmen verwerfen (Vorgang 440).

- Andernfalls kann OXE prüfen, ob das Guthaben in der Eingabe nicht negativ ist (Vorgang 458). Wenn das Guthaben im Eintrag nicht negativ ist, kann OXE das Paket weiterleiten und einen Betrag vom Guthaben des Eintrags abziehen (Vorgang 466). Ist das Guthaben in der Eingabe hingegen negativ, kann das OXE das Paket verwerfen und ein FGFC-Flag für das MCU-Modul setzen (Vorgang 460). Das OXE kann dann das MCU-Modul aus der Arbitrierung herausnehmen und den übereinstimmenden Eintrag überwachen (Vorgang 462).
- Exemplarisches Computersvstem

- Das Computersystem 550 kann mit einer Host-Schnittstellenkopplung, einer NIC 520, ausgestattet sein, die eine effiziente Verwaltung von Datenanforderungen ermöglicht. NIC 520 kann dem Computersystem 550 eine oder mehrere HNI, wie z. B. HNI 540, zur Verfügung stellen. NIC 520 kann über HNI 540 mit einem Switch 502 gekoppelt sein. Beim Empfang eines FGFC-Steuerungsrahmens von Switch 502 kann HNI 540 feststellen, ob der Rahmen ein Ethernet-basierter Rahmen oder ein API-basierter Rahmen ist. Ist der Frame ein Ethernet-basierter Frame, kann HNI 540 die Quell-IP-Adressen mit den in den Registern 532 gespeicherten lokalen Adressen vergleichen. Wenn eine Übereinstimmung festgestellt wird, kann HNI 540 den Rahmen auf der Grundlage der Einträge im FGLC-Cache 534 und des Inhalts des Rahmens verarbeiten. HNI 540 kann auch eine Warteschlange 536 enthalten, in der Ereignisse gespeichert werden können, die nicht in einer Event Engine von NIC 520 untergebracht werden können. Handelt es sich bei dem Frame um einen API-basierten Frame, kann HNI 540 einem OXE-Logikblock 530 von NIC 520 Header-Informationen bereitstellen und den Frame an den OXE-Logikblock 530 senden.
- Der OXE-Logikblock 530 kann die Informationen in einem Eintrag in einer FGLC-Tabelle 536 speichern. Der OXE-Logikblock 530 kann dann den Rahmen auf der Grundlage der Einträge in der FGLC-Tabelle 536 und des Inhalts des Rahmens verarbeiten. Nach dem Empfang eines Pakets, das zu einem FGLC-pflichtigen Fluss gehört, vom Computersystem 550 über eine HI der NIC 520 kann der OXE-Logikblock 530 das Paket einem MCU-Logikblock 532 zuweisen. Ein Arbitrierungslogikblock 534 kann den MCU-Logikblock 532 auf der Grundlage einer Arbitrierungsrichtlinie auswählen. Wenn der MCU-Logikblock 532 ausgewählt wird, kann der OXE-Logikblock 530 das Paket auf der Grundlage eines passenden Eintrags in der FGLC-Tabelle 536 und des Inhalts des Pakets verarbeiten.
- Zusammenfassend beschreibt die vorliegende Offenbarung einen NIC, der eine feinkörnige Flusssteuerung (FGFC) ermöglicht. Der NIC kann mit einer Netzwerkschnittstelle, einem FGFC-Logikblock und einem Verkehrsmanagement-Logikblock ausgestattet sein. Während des Betriebs kann die Netzwerkschnittstelle feststellen, dass ein Steuerrahmen von einem entfernten Switch zur Anwendung von FGFC bestimmt ist. Die Netzwerkschnittstelle kann dann einen im Steuerrahmen angegebenen Datenfluss zur Anwendung des FGFC identifizieren. Der FGFC-Logikblock kann Informationen aus dem Kontrollrahmen in einen Eintrag einer im NIC gespeicherten Datenstruktur einfügen. Der Logikblock für das Verkehrsmanagement kann den Eintrag in der Datenstruktur auf der Grundlage eines oder mehrerer Felder eines zum Datenfluss gehörenden Pakets identifizieren. Anschließend kann der Logikblock für die Verkehrsverwaltung auf der Grundlage der Informationen in dem Eintrag bestimmen, ob das Paket weitergeleitet werden darf.
- Die oben beschriebenen Methoden und Prozesse können von Hardware-Logikblöcken, Modulen, Logikblöcken oder Geräten ausgeführt werden. Zu den Hardware-Logikblöcken, -Modulen oder -Vorrichtungen können unter anderem anwendungsspezifische integrierte Schaltungen (ASIC), feldprogrammierbare Gate-Arrays (FPGAs), dedizierte oder gemeinsam genutzte Prozessoren, die einen Code zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt ausführen, und andere bekannte oder später entwickelte programmierbare Logikvorrichtungen gehören. Wenn die Hardware-Logikblöcke, -Module oder -Geräte aktiviert werden, führen sie die darin enthaltenen Methoden und Prozesse aus.
- Die hier beschriebenen Methoden und Prozesse können auch als Code oder Daten verkörpert werden, die in einem Speichergerät oder computerlesbaren Speichermedium gespeichert werden können. Wenn ein Prozessor den gespeicherten Code oder die Daten liest und ausführt, kann der Prozessor diese Methoden und Prozesse durchführen.
- Die vorstehenden Beschreibungen von Ausführungsformen der vorliegenden Erfindung wurden nur zur Veranschaulichung und Beschreibung vorgelegt. Sie erheben keinen Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit und beschränken die vorliegende Erfindung nicht auf die dargestellten Formen. Dementsprechend werden viele Modifikationen und Variationen für den Fachmann auf dem Gebiet der Technik offensichtlich sein. Außerdem soll die vorliegende Erfindung durch die obige Offenbarung nicht eingeschränkt werden. Der Umfang der vorliegenden Erfindung wird durch die beigefügten Ansprüche definiert.
Claims (20)
- Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung (NIC), die Folgendes umfasst: eine Netzwerkschnittstelle zu: festzustellen, dass ein Steuerrahmen von einem Switch mit einer feinkörnigen Flusssteuerung (FGFC) verbunden ist; und einen im Kontrollrahmen angegebenen Datenfluss zur Anwendung des FGFC identifizieren; einen FGFC-Logikblock zum Einfügen von Informationen aus dem Steuerrahmen in einen Eintrag einer in der Netzschnittstellensteuerung gespeicherten Datenstruktur; und einen Logikblock für das Verkehrsmanagement: Identifizierung des Eintrags in der Datenstruktur auf der Grundlage eines oder mehrerer Felder eines zum Fluss gehörenden Pakets; und auf der Grundlage der Informationen im Eintrag bestimmen, ob das Paket weitergeleitet werden darf.
- Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei die Netzwerkschnittstelle ferner dazu dient, auf der Grundlage eines Typs des Steuerrahmens zu bestimmen, ob der Steuerrahmen an der Netzwerkschnittstelle verarbeitet werden soll. - Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 2 , wobei die Netzwerkschnittstelle ferner dazu dient, Informationen aus einem oder mehreren Feldern des Steuerrahmens an den Verkehrsmanagement-Logikblock auf der Grundlage des Typs des Steuerrahmens zu liefern. - Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei die Netzwerkschnittstelle ferner ein Ereignis für den Fluss auf der Grundlage eines Dauerwerts und eines Guthabenwerts aus den Informationen in dem Steuerrahmen erzeugt, wobei das Ereignis eine Steuernachricht ist, die anzeigt, ob der FGFC für den Fluss eingeleitet oder beendet werden soll. - Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei das Einfügen der Informationen in den Eintrag umfasst: Bestimmen eines Dauerwerts für die Anwendung des FGFC auf den Fluss auf der Grundlage der Informationen in dem Steuerrahmen; und Aktualisierung eines Dauerzählers im Eintrag auf der Grundlage des Dauerwerts. - Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei das Einfügen der Informationen in den Eintrag umfasst: Bestimmen von Kreditinformationen aus den Informationen in dem Kontrollrahmen, wobei die Kreditinformationen eine Datenmenge des Flusses angeben, die weitergeleitet werden kann; und Aktualisierung eines Kreditwerts im Eintrag auf der Grundlage der ermittelten Kreditinformationen. - Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 6 , wobei der Verkehrsmanagement-Logikblock dazu dient: Zuweisung des Pakets an eine Message Chopping Unit (MCU) aus einer Vielzahl von MCUs; unter der Vielzahl von MCUs zu entscheiden, um eine MCU für die Weiterleitung des Pakets auf der Grundlage des Kreditwerts im Eintrag auszuwählen. - Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei das Einfügen der Informationen in den Eintrag umfasst: Feststellung, ob ein oder mehrere Felder mit einem bestehenden Eintrag in der Datenstruktur übereinstimmen; als Reaktion auf das Nichtfinden einer Übereinstimmung, Bestimmung eines neuen Eintrags in der Datenstruktur; und Einfügen von Informationen aus einem oder mehreren Feldern in den neuen Eintrag. - Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 8 , wobei der FGFC-Logikblock weiterhin dazu dient: festzustellen, ob die Datenstruktur für den neuen Eintrag verfügbar ist; und als Antwort auf die Nichtverfügbarkeit der Datenstruktur den Kontrollrahmen verwerfen. - Netzwerkschnittstellensteuerung nach
Anspruch 1 , wobei der Eintrag eines oder mehrere der folgenden Elemente enthält: einen Bezeichner des Stroms, wobei der Eintrag auf der Grundlage des Bezeichners indiziert wird; ein Gültigkeitskennzeichen, das angibt, ob der Eintrag gültig ist; einen Zeitdauerzähler, der einen Zeitdauerwert für die Anwendung von FGFC auf den Strom anzeigt; einen Kreditwert, der die Datenmenge des Flusses angibt, die weitergeleitet werden kann; und eine Kennung für die Ereigniswarteschlange. - Verfahren, das Folgendes umfasst: Bestimmung durch einen Netzwerkschnittstellen-Controller (NIC), dass ein Steuerrahmen von einem Switch mit einer feinkörnigen Flusssteuerung (FGFC) verbunden ist; Identifizierung eines im Kontrollrahmen angegebenen Datenflusses zur Anwendung des FGFC; Einfügen von Informationen aus dem Kontrollrahmen in einen Eintrag einer im NIC gespeicherten Datenstruktur; Identifizierung des Eintrags in der Datenstruktur auf der Grundlage eines oder mehrerer Felder eines zum Fluss gehörenden Pakets; und Bestimmung, ob das Paket auf der Grundlage der Informationen im Eintrag weitergeleitet werden darf.
- Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , das ferner die Bestimmung eines Typs des Kontrollrahmens umfasst, wobei der Typ angibt, wie der Kontrollrahmen zu verarbeiten ist. - Verfahren nach
Anspruch 12 , das ferner die Weiterleitung von Informationen aus einem oder mehreren Feldern des Steuerrahmens innerhalb des NIC auf der Grundlage des Typs des Steuerrahmens umfasst. - Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , das ferner das Erzeugen eines Ereignisses für den Fluss auf der Grundlage eines Dauerwerts und eines Guthabenwerts aus den Informationen im Steuerrahmen umfasst, wobei das Ereignis eine Steuernachricht ist, die anzeigt, ob der FGFC für den Fluss eingeleitet oder beendet werden soll. - Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , wobei das Einfügen der Informationen in den Eintrag umfasst: Bestimmen eines Dauerwerts für die Anwendung des FGFC auf den Fluss auf der Grundlage der Informationen in dem Steuerrahmen; und Aktualisierung eines Dauerzählers im Eintrag auf der Grundlage des Dauerwerts. - Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , wobei das Einfügen der Informationen in den Eintrag umfasst: Bestimmen von Kreditinformationen aus den Informationen in dem Kontrollrahmen, wobei die Kreditinformationen eine Datenmenge des Flusses angeben, die weitergeleitet werden kann; und Aktualisierung eines Kreditwerts im Eintrag auf der Grundlage der ermittelten Kreditinformationen. - Das Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 umfasst ferner: Zuweisung des Pakets an eine Message Chopping Unit (MCU) aus einer Vielzahl von MCUs; Arbitrieren unter der Vielzahl von MCUs, um eine MCU für die Weiterleitung des Pakets auf der Grundlage des Kreditwerts im Eintrag auszuwählen. - Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , wobei das Einfügen der Informationen in den Eintrag umfasst: Feststellung, ob ein oder mehrere Felder mit einem bestehenden Eintrag in der Datenstruktur übereinstimmen; als Reaktion auf das Nichtfinden einer Übereinstimmung, Bestimmung eines neuen Eintrags in der Datenstruktur; und Einfügen von Informationen aus einem oder mehreren Feldern in den neuen Eintrag. - Verfahren nach
Anspruch 18 umfasst ferner: Feststellung, ob die Datenstruktur für den neuen Eintrag verfügbar ist; und als Antwort auf die Nichtverfügbarkeit der Datenstruktur, Verwerfen des Kontrollrahmens. - Verfahren nach
Anspruch 11 , wobei die Eingabe eines oder mehrere der folgenden Elemente umfasst: einen Bezeichner des Stroms, wobei der Eintrag auf der Grundlage des Bezeichners indiziert wird; ein Gültigkeitskennzeichen, das angibt, ob der Eintrag gültig ist; einen Zeitdauerzähler, der einen Zeitdauerwert für die Anwendung von FGFC auf den Strom anzeigt; einen Kreditwert, der die Datenmenge des Flusses angibt, die weitergeleitet werden kann; und eine Kennung für die Ereigniswarteschlange.
