Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及多媒体终端,并且更具体地涉及在移动环境中使用DVB(数字视频广播)的交互式多媒体终端。
背景技术
半导体技术与软件的进展加速了无线数据通信的蓬勃发展。这些进展已允许在数字网上传输音频与数据信号。
数字与混合信号系统提供比老式模拟系统多得多的优点。一个重要优点是数字系统在更高的速率上传输与接收更多信息。模拟系统限于在64Kbps(千比特/秒)的速率上传输音频与视频,数字系统能压缩这些传输而在相同的速率上传输8倍的信息。再者,更快速的处理器允许数字系统以不断提高的速率传输位。通过利用压缩程序及更快速的处理器来更精确与更快速地传输信息,已在交换容量与不断增长的线路成本上实现了重大的节省。
通过采用诸如时分多址联接(“TDMA”)与码分多址联接(“CDMA”)等多址联接技术,已实现了额外的优点。这些技术允许多个用户接入单一带宽。它们还允许将单个用户传输的音频与数据信号互相混合。这些技术更好地利用了珍贵的无线电波空间。
无线信息革命的最新进展为例如利用DVB-T(Digital VideoBroadcasting-Terrestrial(数字视频广播-地面))在无线电波上传输数字视频信号。类似的进展正在RF带上出现,如正在作出努力在蜂窝式电话、传真机与计算机上增加视频性能。然而,能在这些机器上增加优质视频性能之前,必须克服由带宽限制产生的问题。因为这些机器在900与1900MHz之间的频率上工作,带宽不足于传输优质电影所需的极大量视频与音频信息。
数字电视以比当前可利用的模拟广播的更高质量提供更多频道。一条模拟频道提供一个高清晰度(HDTV)数字广播或若干标准清晰度(SDTV)数字广播的带宽容量。数字电视可在这两个极端之间调节。因此,数字广播者能在巨大改进的图象及声音质量与增加节目选择数目之间作出折衷。
可将数字电视发送给移动中的接收机。当前,模拟电视接收在移动接收机中不再存在或受到严格限制。然而,数字接收机允许在汽车、公交车、火车及诸如Sony WatchmanTM等手持式电视机中清晰地接收。
大多数用于制作、编辑以及分发(distribute)电视节目的设备当前是数字的。通过电缆、天线或卫星模拟接收电视信号是一长事件链的最终结果,它们大多数发生在数字域中。例如,在分发新广播时,现场记者利用数字卫星新闻采集设备将其报导上行链接到编程中心。将该资料进行数字接收、解码并利用馈入演播室中的实况节目进行编辑。然后向全世界数字地发送该广播到专业接收机。最后,将广播转换成模拟信号及发送给终端观众。
智能TV通过将TV连接在增值网(VAN)上能接收通信服务。该智能TV包含信息信号处理单元,在智能TV连接在VAN上时接收信息通信数据(此后称作“信息数据”)并生成信息RGB信号和转接控制信号以便将该信息数据显示在屏幕上。该智能TV按照从该信息信号处理单元输出的转接控制信号来选择在该信息信号处理单元中处理的信息数据信号之一和在TV信号处理单元中处理的TV RGB信号,并将其显示在屏幕上。智能TV使通过TV屏幕观看若干通信服务成为可能,诸如正在通过VAN传输的股票标价、新闻服务、气象报告及TV节目单。因此,它具有不熟悉计算机使用的人能容易地接收通信服务的优点。
即使智能TV具有通过TV屏幕接收通信服务的优点,它却不能同时显示多个信号。必须一次一个地显示用于在屏幕上显示信息数据的信息信号、TV信号、用于同时能观看两个屏面的画中画(PIP)信号及TV正在屏幕上显示的(OSD)信号,因此,信号是按预定的优先级显示的。例如,信息信号优先于TV信号显示,PIP信号优先于信息信号显示,而TV OSD信号则优先于PIP信号显示。
上述的当前信息发送服务缺少可增强它们的可用性与公众需求的许多特征。如上所述,该智能TV缺乏同时显示多个信号的能力。此外,不能得到两种服务其中之一为诸如交互式应用的在线连接。当前技术是依赖于静止接收机的。由于不能用集成的接收机/解码器(或IRD)将多个信号综合,信息发送是依赖于位置或地点的。
新的显示技术提供了生产低功率高质量便携式显示设备的可能性。这些设备是基于大的全色平板显示器或虚拟(装在头盔上的)显示器的。这种显示器的共同特征在于它们是数字与点阵型显示器。DVB-T的引入在TV广播历史上第一次使真正的TV移动接收成为可能。除了传统的TV服务,DVB-T还提供对广播数据服务的接入。DVB-T与诸如上述平板或装在头盔上的显示器的结合使得生产具有摄影室质量画面的全数字TV接收机成为可能。
图3表示当前多媒体体系结构的框图。当前,数字机顶盒(STB)302与数字TV显示器304是分开的。再者,STB 302通信链路只有单一类型。例如,STB通信链路为诸如同轴电缆或POTS等硬接口。因此,连接在STB 302上的典型数字TV 304不提供便携性或移动性。
膝上型与笔记本计算机现在装有用移动(或无线)链路连接在网络上的装置。这种连接通常利用构成在诸如PCMIA卡等单一卡上的调制解调器与数字无线收发信机。然而,尚未将数字TV接收机集成到这种设备上。缺少这一通用性的一个原因是数字TV接收机具有高功耗率(相对于其它膝上型或笔记本功能)。因而,会快速耗尽膝上型的电池功率。此外,膝上型和STB一样它们的外部通信能力通常是有限的。例如,能使用串行端口、并行端口及有可能的调制解调器从膝上型发布信息。然而,这些设备并非无缝地在这些链路之间转接。再者,这些设备并不具有估计它们的环境及动态转接到最适当的通信链路的能力。
发明内容
所公开的实施例提供了用于提供交互式移动多媒体终端的方法与设备。该移动多媒体终端(或MMT)能用诸如DVB-T等数字数据广播接收机来接收宽带数据流。交互性(interactivity)是用内置本地或大小区规模通信链路实现的。该本地链路可以是WLAN或蓝牙(低功率RF收发信机)。该大小区规模通信链路可以是诸如GSM、CDMA、TDMA等移动站链路。如果未找到本地连接点,可将带蓝牙链路的移动站用作大小区规模通信的IP路由器或便携式基站。MMT将DVB-T接收、数字显示与通信链路综合在一起来提供在移动环境中的交互性。带移动站的MMT通信链路使它能起该移动站的扩展显示器的作用。MMT也能起着通过移动站的SMS消息传送的图形界面,或操纵移动站上的其它应用的作用。
所公开的实施例能提供许多优点。例如,MMT为能用在便携式或移动环境中的单一设备。MMT配置有不同的无线链路,使它能通过在不同的通信接口、协议、或链路之间切换而无缝地与动态地适应其通信环境。作为另一实例,MMT能用于接收及显示(或广播)不同种类的数据。这些数据可包含诸如MP3(MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer 3(MPEG-1/2音频层3))文件、电子书本等数字内容或报纸、电子商务数据或广播TV。作为另一实例,定时与同步控制器可通过控制MMT的数字接收机来节省功率(save power)。

图1描述移动多媒体终端(或MMT)的当前较佳实施例。该MMT提供交互式移动环境。在当前较佳实施例中,DVB-T接收机102受CPU104控制。DVB-T接收机102能接收按照DVB-T标准的数字TV广播。DVB-S(卫星)与DVB-C(有线)广播也是标准化的并也可使用。DVB-T标准规定携带数字数据流的最好是在VHF频率范围中的宽带频道。除了TV广播之外,DVB-T频谱中的频道也能用于传输旨在供特定用户接收的数据。为了保密,这些数据通常是加密的。以这一方式,DVB-T(或DVB-S或DVB-C)能用于要求宽带下游频道(从源到请求者)的数据传输。在当前较佳实施例中,MMT 100是请求者。
媒体解码器106受CPU 104控制并用于解码所接收的DVB-T广播。DVB-T广播标准采用MPEG-2编码。因此,在当前较佳实施例中,该媒体解码器106为MPEG-2解码器。然而,其它形式的视频流也能且实际上使用其它协议传输数字数据。所选择的媒体解码器106应设计成匹配及解码数字数据源所使用的传输协议。
显示器接口108接收来自媒体解码器106的解码后的广播。将显示器接口108设计成优化对MMT 100的用户的数据显示。例如,所接收的数字数据可以是全运动视频的形式或某种图形。不同的格式要求不同的模式来最佳地显示。显示器接口108作为视频综合器工作。例如,显示器接口能将图形覆盖层放置在全运动视频上,操纵全运动视频的显示到显示器的某一部分中,或者剪辑某些视频或图形以便只在显示器上展示它们的主要或移动部分。显示器接口108的输出驱动MMT100的显示器110。
除了处理数字广播信号之外,当前较佳实施例的MMT 100还能传输信息。这些信息可包含信息的请求、将通过数字广播下载的数据、电话标识数据、或通过移动站(诸如移动电话)的有规律话音与数据通信。在当前较佳实施例中,MMT 100装备有诸如蓝牙等低功率射频(LPRF)收发信机112。按照蓝牙标准配置的收发信机能对本地收发信机进行短距离(大约10米)无线电通信。可将该本地收发信机连接在LAN、PSTN、或低或高功率无线网上。除了LPRF链路之外,当前较佳实施例的MMT 100能配置成带有无线LAN 114或蜂窝式收发信机116。蜂窝式收发信机可以是例如(SM、TDMA、CDMA、AMPS或其它标准或专利通信协议。MMT 100的CPU控制器104配置成动态地选择收发信机112、114与116之间的通信模式。CPU 104能根据当前通信环境选择适当的通信链路。例如,如果检测到蓝牙收发信机,便能用该蓝牙收发信机112交换数据而无须获取蜂窝式链路上的信道。然而,如果要传输话音数据,则蜂窝式链路是理想的。因而CPU 104将选择蜂窝式收发信机116用于传输工作。
MMT 100的LPRF链路112可用在与外部移动站的结合中。外部移动站能作为便携式(近距离)基站工作。外部移动站也能作为网上浏览与其它网络活动的IP路由器工作。
MMT 100的DVB-T接收机102由CPU 104激活或去激活。DVB-T接收机102可应用户请求激活。即在用户想要接收广播数据或期望接收广播数据时。CPU 104也能监视服务信息的环境及在条件认可时激活DVB-T接收机102。例如,如果检测到用户想要接收的服务时,CPU104能激活DVB-T接收机102。作为另一实例,如果及在它需要时,CPU 104能激活DVB-T接收机102,以便传达重要或时间性数据给用户,例如气象或新闻数据。
在当前最佳实施例中,DVB-T接收机102装备有定时元件118,使之能保持与数字广播设施同步。这一定时器118使之有可能在上一次系统同步以后的日子里打开接收机及拾取选择的数据分组。定时器118使CPU 104能控制DVB-T接收机102的激活,这也能节省功率。例如,如果当前不在使用视频功能,即不在或不需要接收数字广播时,CPU 104便关掉DVB-T接收机102。例如,当MMT正在通信链路112、114或116上进行网上浏览时,便能出现这一情况。

前端216、解扰器218、智能卡220以及多路分用器222消耗DVB接收机102使用的大部分功率。将多路分用器222的数据的路由确定到媒体解码器106上。此外,也能将数据的路由确定到缓冲器或存储器224或选用的存储器卡226。用存储数据来代替解码与显示它取决于DVB-T接收机102的设定与用途。例如,通过将数据存储到存储器中,便有可能显示一个数据流同时接收另一数据流。在当前较佳实施例中,定时与同步控制器118控制前端216、解扰器218、智能卡220以及多路分用器222。只在需要或应用户请求时,定时与同步控制器118才激活这些接收机部件。MMT 100的CPU 104控制MMT的所有部件。CPU 104负责读取服务信息及确定MMT 100的通信环境。利用CPU104来配置定时与同步控制器118。
要在MMT 100的显示器110上显示的内容能通过存储器224或226来源于CPU 104或来源于媒体解码器106。MMT 100的显示器可以是例如平板TFT显示器或诸如头盔式LCOS 3D显示器等虚拟显示器。显示器数据是用MMT的显示器接口108处理的。接口108执行需要的定标、变焦、帧速率转换、滤波的操作,以便在MMT 100的显示器110上适当地显示数据。显示器接口108可根据其类型与要利用的显示器110的类型配置成最佳地显示数据。
数字内容也能包含音频信号。可通过MMT 100的音频输出230提供这种内容。MMT的音频输出230可以是诸如扬声器。
可将MMT 100配置成以多种方式通信。例如,可利用LPRF链路112与作为便携式基站或IP路由器的移动站通信。作为另一实例,在家庭关口站环境中,MMT 100能作为使用WLAN收发信机114的无线LAN中的节点工作。
图4描绘能作为对MMT 100的IP路由器或便携式基站工作的移动站400的框图。在本实例中,移动站400包含:
控制头402包含音频接口,即扬声器404与麦克风406。控制头402通常包含使用户看见所拨的数字、存储的信息、消息、呼叫状态信息(包含信号强度)等的显示器组件408。控制头通常包含小键盘410或其它用户控制设备,允许用户拨号、应答进入呼叫、输入存储信息及执行其它移动站功能。控制头还具有控制器单元434,后者与逻辑控制单元418接口,从控制单元观点负责接收来自键盘或其它控制设备的命令,及提供状态信息、警报、与其它信息给显示器组件408;
包含发射机单元414、接收机单元416、及逻辑控制组件418的收发信机单元412。发射机单元414使用codec(数据编码器/解码器)420将来自麦克风406的低级音频信号转换成数字编码。数字编码的音频是由用移位键调制器/解调器422在频域中的调制的频移表示的。也可编码诸如站参数与控制信息等逻辑控制组件418所利用的其它代码传输供传输。然后放大424调制后的信号并通过天线组件426发射;
天线组件426包含TR(发射机/接收机)开关436来防止移动站400同时接收与传输信号。收发信机单元412通过TR开关436连接在天线组件426上。天线组件至少包含一根天线438;
接收机单元416通过天线组件426接收传输的信号。放大424及解调422该信号。如果该信号是音频信号,便用codec 420将其解码。然后用扬声器404再生该音频信号。其它信号是经过解调422后由逻辑控制组件418处理的;以及
逻辑控制组件418通常包含诸如通用微处理器、数字信号处理器等将许多功能与其它功能组合进一个集成电路中的应用特定的集成电路(或ASIC)。逻辑控制组件418用控制消息来协调发射机与接收机的整体操作。各种公开的实施例利用逻辑控制组件来控制其它基站的扫描与评估。通常,逻辑控制组件由存储在移动站的快速存储器428中的程序操作。快速存储器428允许操作软件升级、软件纠错或增加新特征。快速存储器428还用于保持诸如快速拨号名及存储的号码等用户信息。
除了快速存储器428之外,移动站通常还包含用于存储诸如起动过程等不许改变的信息的只读存储器(ROM)430、及保持诸如频道号与系统标识符等临时信息的随机存取存储器(RAM)432。
在当前的最佳实施例中,移动站还包含诸如蓝牙等用于与MMT 100通信的LPRF收发信机112。
如熟悉本技术的人员所理解的,本申请中所描述的新颖概念可在巨大的应用范围上修正与改变,从而专利主题事物的范围不受上面给出的任何特定示范性教导的限制。
例如,将数字接收机描述为DVB-T接收机。然而,所接收的数字数据可以是各式各样的数字格式、频率、协议等中的任何一种。应将所使用的数字接收机配置成接收预期的数据类型。再者,可将数字接收机配置成接收各式各样格式的数字信息或接收诸如NTSC或PAL等模拟与数字广播。
对于另一实例,将当前较佳实施例描述为只有一台数字接收机。然而,可将MMT的不同实施例配置成带有多台数字接收机。一台以上数字接收机的使用能用来提高在数字广播中所接收的数据的稳健性。
对于另一实例,将当前较佳实施例描述为一次一条地在不同通信链路上操作。然而,有可能一次操作诸如LPRF、WLAN、与/或无线移动站链路等若干通信链路以便同时对多处发送及接收信息。
对于另一实例,虽然在当前较佳实施例中未明确陈述,有可能将移动站集成到MMT中。集成的MMT/移动站允许MMT作为其本身的IP路由器或便携式基站工作。
对于另一实例,在当前较佳实施例中预期数据的数字广播。然而,有可能第三代(3G)或更高级的蜂窝式网络将具有投送TV接收及宽带数据传输的容量,MMT能装备有被配置成接收这种数字数据的不同或代替的接收机。
Claims (12)
1.在移动多媒体终端中功率节省的一种方法,该移动多媒体终端包括:接收机,连接用于接收无线广播数据信号;控制器,连接到所述接收机,用于管理和协调所述接收机的功能;显示器接口,连接到媒体解码器,用于最优化所述接收的无线广播数据信号,以便显示;和低功率射频收发信机,连接到所述控制器,用于相对于所述接收的无线广播数据信号提供交互式环境,该方法包括:
去激活所述接收机;和
根据服务信息,激活该接收机。
2.如权利要求1的方法,还包括在存储器中存储通过接收机接收的数据。
3.如权利要求2的方法,还包括在内容展示中采用存储的数据。
4.一种用于交互性的方法,包括:
确定当前通信环境;和
选择第一收发信机和第二收发信机之一来提供与接收的无线广播数据信号的交互性,
其中第一收发信机是本地链路收发信机,而第二收发信机是移动站链路收发信机。
5.如权利要求4的方法,其中本地链路收发信机是WLAN收发信机。
6.如权利要求4的方法,其中本地链路收发信机是蓝牙收发信机。
7.如权利要求4的方法,其中移动站链路收发信机是GSM收发信机。
8.如权利要求4的方法,其中移动站链路收发信机是CDMA收发信机。
9.在移动多媒体终端中用于数据接收的一种方法,该移动多媒体终端包括:接收机,用于接收广播数据;媒体解码器,连接到所述接收机,用于解码所述接收的数据;控制器,连接到所述接收机和所述媒体解码器,用于管理和协调所述接收机和所述媒体解码器的功能,该方法包括:
在用户希望接收广播数据时,激活所述接收机;
通过该接收机接收数据;和
在存储器中存储接收的数据,以便以后展示。
10.如权利要求9的方法,其中该存储器是缓冲器。
11.如权利要求9的方法,其中该存储器是存贮存储器。
12.如权利要求9的方法,其中该存储器是存储器卡。
