背景技术
需要以某种方式安排计算机文件，使得用户可以判断它们各自是什么文件。然而当前很大程度上由用户提出一个有用的方案，例如为每个文件和文件夹以及某种文件夹层次提供有含义的名称，然后在存储每个文件时使该文件适于该方案。这对于适于一个分类的文件很有效，并保留其基本特征，如用户可以用一个母文件夹存放工程计划图，用子文件夹存放每个特定的计划图，然后将与特定计划图相关的任何文档放入其对应的文件夹。

发明内容
简要地说，本发明提供了一种包括用于管理多组数字文件或数据的用户界面的系统和方法，包括快速分类机制和使元数据与数字文件或数据关联的下层支持机制，包括从分类机制获得的注解元数据。还提供了对数字文件和数据进行分组。
在一个实施中，分类程序通过提供允许用户滚动所有(或一个适当子集的)数据并为每个数据选择(或不选择)一个分类的用户界面，以便于对诸如数字照片或电子邮件数据之类的数字数据进行快速方便的分类。根据一个或多个标准安排多组数据(如数字照片)滚动，例如根据每个数字照片拍摄的时间和日期，或电子邮件消息接收到的时间。在一个示例性实施中，左右光标键用于滚动到一个被选数据组，而上下光标键可用于为被选数据组按需要识别分类(如“最佳”或“拒绝”)。另外还描述了其它滚动机制，包括自动滚动和/或根据指示设备的命令滚动。在每个用户界面中，可视指示向用户提供关于分类的反馈，可以是默认分类或用户指定的分类。

在各种用户界面实施中，滚动通常是线性的，从右到左，反之亦然，被选数据(如照片)位于中心并且最大，被尺寸递减的多组可视数据包围。结果，来自周围数据的上下内容(context)是可视的。对于照片，缩略图出现在代表的分类位置，指示哪些照片已被分类，其中当前被选照片(如果被分类)具有稍大的缩略图。
如果需要，除了分类(它是隐含注解)以外，用户还可以为被选数字数据组加入清楚的注解。例如，另一键盘键和/或菜单项目的指示器选择可允许用户对当前被选数据组打字、手写、增加音频等。通过使注解(它可以是实际数据或对数据文件的链接)保留部分元数据，用户可以使用后处理程序，如果注解可视则使注解结合数据组出现，或者如果是音频注解，则使注解结合数据组被听到。
本发明提供分组(成组)，例如，当多组数据彼此时间上直接邻近时为用户提供上下内容，或按某些其它标准分组。例如，对于数字照片，按时间分组对肖像或群体镜头通常是有用的，其中期望有一个最佳图像。可以安排用户界面预先指示有数个类似镜头要出现，例如用不同颜色的框包围不同组的照片，在显示器上用诸如散列标志指示组的开始和结束之处，或在几组照片之间提供间隔以指示拍摄照片的时间差。分组不一定根据时间，还可以用其它元数据实现，如位置数据或用户分配的分组信息。

示例性操作环境
图1示出其中可实现本发明的合适计算系统环境100的实例。计算系统环境100只是适合计算环境的一个实例，它对本发明应用范围或功能性没有任何限制。计算环境100也不应该被理解为对示例性操作环境100中所示部件中的任何一个或组合有任何依赖或相关要求。

数字文件管理
本发明一般针对管理数字文件，如数字照片或其它可视图像。然而，可以理解，虽然这里的实例中使用数字照片，但是本发明不限于数字照片、文件和/或图像，而是适用于各种其它类型的数字数据。例如，使用这里描述的技术可以对电子邮件消息快速分类；图像可以包括消息数据，甚至虑及图像内的编辑。

在图3的屏幕截图300显示的示例性实施中，用户可以按需要快速与屏幕互动从而分类照片。例如用户可以利用左右光标键非常快速地滚动一大组数字照片(或其它数据)。数字照片是标记有时间的(time-stamped)，且可以被安排以按时间滚动，例如最老的位于最左边，最新的位于最右边，反之亦然。安排数字照片滚动的其它方法是可行的，如首先显示未被分类的照片。然而，时间排序为用户提供了大量的上下内容(context)，因为用户通常想知道在某些照片的时间附近拍摄了哪些其它照片。
在滚动时，为用户呈现一被选照片302，它以某种方式不同于一组数字照片304中的其它照片，例如，比其它照片大。除了显示出选择，很容易理解的是，较大的显示为用户提供了审阅图像的较佳机会，以便于分类。或者，可以提供其它可视指示，如围绕当前被选照片的高光边框。

因此，在用户以自然的方式观看其数字照片的情况下进行选择。一旦选出图像302，就能快速完成分类，例如通过向上或向下光标键，如图3中分别由向导箭头306和308所指示的。通过简单地使用左右光标键来停止选择并随后使用上下光标键，用户可以为照片分配类别。注意，通过简单地将图像移动到一个类别，为图像隐含地分配了元数据。另外，注意，不分配类别也隐含地分配了元数据，如中性的或不确定的状态。可以使由于未被观看而为中性与已被观看后为中性之间的元数据存在区别。
对于选择的可视指示，使缩略图出现在代表的类别位置。注意，如果已经分配了类别，如图3中的“最佳”类别310，缩略图可表示为缩放图像312，从而通知用户其分配状态。注意，可能有数据状态的其它指示；例如使用包围图像的不同颜色的边框可指示其类别，如绿色表示最佳，红色表示拒绝，等等。
在图3所示的情况中，其中，已经将被选照片312分类为最佳，“向上”光标没有任何含义，因此被忽略，而向下箭头除去分类(需要双向下箭头将数字照片分类到拒绝类别区域314)。注意，单个光标动作可以把图像移动到另一类别，然而某些机制可用于从一个图像除去任何分类，如在不确定时保留决定直到以后或者直到获得第二个主意。
如果需要，除了只是分类(其本身是一种隐含的注解)以外，用户可以为被选照片增加清楚的注解。例如，另一键盘键和/或菜单项目的指示器选择可允许用户对当前被选照片302打字、手写、增加音频等。通过使注解(它可以是实际数据或对数据文件的链接)保留部分元数据，用户可以使用后处理程序，如图2的演示程序222，以使注解在照片上或附近出现，或者如果是音频注解，则使注解在照片显示时被听到。
很容易理解，存在几种可能的可替换或附加的用户界面，用于分类数字照片。图像尺寸、屏幕上的图像数目，和/或用于分类并注解照片的用户界面都可以变化。例如，在图4中(其中，为了简化，用方框代替实际照片或其它数字数据，其中适当之处用与图3中类似的编号，除了以400开头)，被选数据402两侧的两组数据(如数字照片或电子邮件消息)430和431几乎完全可视，提供了与被选数据直接相邻(例如，在时间上)的数据的附加上下内容。在图5，数字数据组不是直线，例如这允许过去和将来的照片具有更大的可视区域，在该实例中，是一边以及底部。
图6示出具有四个类别区域610、611、614、615的用户界面600。对于任何用户分类界面，用户可以选择在屏幕上显示哪些代表类别位置，以及它们各自显示在何处。例如，用户可以使用指示设备将代表类别的图标拖曳到屏幕上的位置，其中程序可根据选出的代表类别位置的数目来重新定位并调整尺寸以实现对称；同样，用户可除去默认的代表类别位置，例如，用右健点击它或将它拖曳到其它位置。
一旦用户使需要的代表类别位置显示后，用户可使用上述键盘(可能需要不止光标键)和/或可将当前被选照片602拖曳到一个类别并释放。在一个触摸屏的实施中，为加快速度，从被选照片602上任一处开始沿一方向朝向一个类别的笔的姿势(pen gesture)足以将被选照片移动到该类别，直到稍后提起笔取消分类。在该手势起效之前笔必须保留在照片602上一段时间，如半秒钟；可以提供可视指示(如闪烁的边界)，从而在该手势将产生效果时进行指示。或者，用户可以简单地点击一个被选的代表类别位置，并将当前被选图像分配到该类别。当不存在按键(如写字板)时，提供其它机制用于滚动。例如，在图6的示例性实施中，点击滚动图标640和642将一次滚动一张照片；将笔保留在滚动图标上则以合适的速率滚动照片。虽然很多现代写字板需要基于笔的输入，但是如果手指可用作指示机制，那么可以进一步增强界面的自然流动。很容易理解，可以实现多种其它变化。
根据本发明的一个方面，当多个快照(snapshot)在时间上直接邻近地拍摄或者按照其它标准分组时，分组涉及一个常见问题。按时间分组对肖像或群体镜头通常是有用的，其中期望有一个最佳图像。很容易理解，可以安排用户界面预先指示将有数个类似的镜头，例如用不同颜色的框包围不同组的照片，在显示器上用诸如散列标志指示组的开始和结束之处，或在照片的组之间提供间隔以指示拍摄的时间差。
注意，分组不一定根据时间，还可以用其它元数据实现。例如，GPS数据提供另一种分组标准。类似地，用户可以将一个群集(cluster)分配给一组数字数据，并将数字数据加入该群集(如，使用上述分类机制)。例如，用户可能希望将孩子棒球比赛的照片分类到一个群集，即使这些比赛超过一个赛季，其中拍摄了很多介入的照片。电子邮件消息是另一种数据，它们可以按收到时间之外的标准分组，如按照发信人。
有时，在任何时候屏幕上只有一个图像是最佳的，因为，例如它使图像的屏幕尺寸最大化，从而允许最佳地观察细节，并且便于注意一个图像。然而，也存在这样的情况，即几个图像同时显示在屏幕上是有利的，以便于快速比较。通常，如果人们一次可以看见一幅以上的图像，他们就可以对图像较快地分类，在同时显示的多个图像和使屏幕实际空间最大化之间获得合理的平衡。
图7示出了用于这种同时比较的界面700，它示出了选择数据的能力，如从几幅类似的照片中选出最佳的，由此引导在两幅数字照片之间进行的选择。例如，很普遍的是，一幅紧接一幅地拍摄多幅相近的照片，然后选择最佳的，如没有人眨眼睛等。用另一种选择机制，如用指示机制指定、使用其它键盘键等指示并点击，可以选择两个(或更多)照片750和752用于靠近的比较，如图7所示的并排方式。例如，当另一照片(如431)被指定或辅助选择时，图4中当前被选照片402可被适当地移向左侧或右侧。注意，如图7中所示，当前被选照片752被缩放得稍大于辅助被选的照片，但是指示当前和辅助选择的某些其它装置也是可行的。
除了通过主要和辅助选择进行直接比较，观察者可以同时观看一个群集中的一些或所有照片，以选出最佳的照片。图8示出了为审阅者同时呈现的群集的照片(或它的某个子集)的概念，具有某些可视的指示，如指示分组的边框、阴影区域860。可以适当地利用更多或所有的屏幕区域。
很容易理解，观看照片通常是共同的体验，因此媒体中心(Media Center)设置可结合本发明使用。注意，虽然未示出，但是诸如高清晰度电视监视器之类的大屏幕可与运行分类程序的计算设备结合使用，(不一定要显示相同的内容)，从而可由多个审阅者审阅较大的图像以用于分类。这种多个并列演示使几个人可以同时对照片分类；该大显示可以只包含对于任务必需的合适的UI(用户界面)单元。
虽然用户界面的种类事实上没有限制，但是对于每一种，各种特征和要求通常是相同的。通常，为了提供自然的观看体验，图像需要足够大，以看见诸如面部的细节，由此缩略图只在边缘处有用，从而用于帮助增大幻灯片或幻灯影片的取景器。另外，用户界面为分类和/或注解的照片保留上下内容，从而不将照片复制到分离的文件夹(至少在用户看来)，而是把它与周围的照片一起保存，例如以时间顺序。观看和分类也是快速的，可能比过去手工分类显影的照片要快。而且，这里所述的用户界面提供了对分类的立即反馈和加强，因为照片的文件观看立即反映了分类结果(如增加的注解)。此外，通过按时间或者按如下所述的另一种分组安排照片，可以对类似观看的照片进行简单比较，例如，可以快速审阅几幅类似照片中最佳的照片以选出最佳的一幅或几幅。
总之，本发明的一个方面基于增大的幻灯放映界面，其中在一个实施中，向用户显示图像流，当前被选图像被扩大显示为最大图像。可以出现关于分组和分等级的信息，可以基于时间群集(cluster)和/或根据其它标准的群集将图像分离或分组。图像可以被容易地分到一个或多个类别，(或被跳过)，这可以通过键盘、远程控制、鼠标或手势界面(gestural interface)完成。
可以支持其它特征，包括取消和重作，提供取消上一分类的能力。可以用合适的可视效果来支持取消(以及重作)的多个等级。例如，在取消时，图像可从屏幕上图像过去被分类的合适区域动画返回，并除去图像本身上的任何指示。
对于元数据的解释，在图像被分类之后，其它应用程序可以各种方式使用分类注解(或缺少分类注解)，以改变为用户演示图像的方式。注解可存储在文件中(如，使用EXIF标记)、存储在文件系统属性中、和/或使用辅助文件存储。自动取景器(如演示程序222)可随后通过元数据进行过滤以显示最佳图像、或所有图像、和/或图像的任何类别。
以下包括示例性XML文件，它可以某种方式与图像关联或结合入图像，并且示出了根据上述各种机制通过分类增加的注解：

其它应用程序可随后使用置于数据之上的分类或其它信息，例如允许用户按类别分组，便于用户或自动过程找出之前已经被分类的图片。例如，一旦已经对一组数据(如图像文件)分类，可以生成不遵循典型线性格式的演示，从而，比如人们可以深入研究他们想看见更多信息的区域，或者根据一些元数据分流成多个新的方向。从以上XML元数据可以看出，演示可以自动从通过分类产生的元数据以及其它关联的元数据(如拍摄时间、位置)生成，从而示出供人们浏览的当前事件流的实例。图9A和9B示出示例性的演示，它通过动态演示模板自动编辑(至少一部分)，该动态演示模板影响在分类过程期间提供的信息以及其它可用的元数据(如具有图9A中位置数据和图9B中时间标记数据的注解)。
从以上的详细描述中可以看出，提供了一种以非常有利且直接的方式将元数据应用于其它数据的方法和系统。在一个实例中，本发明提供了显著更加容易且更快速地对数字照片进行注解和分类的界面和体验。本发明还提供了自动分组和自动注解工具，用于帮助对数字数据(如照片)进行手工注解，还提供了界面便于对数字照片进行快速分类，同时提供了利于作者和/或观众的隐含的和清楚的注解。
虽然本发明可以有各种变化和其它构造，但只在附图中示出并在以上详细描述了其中所描绘的几个实施例。然而可以理解，并非旨在将本发明限制于所揭示的具体形式，相反，旨在覆盖落在本发明精神和范围内的所有变化，其它构造和等效替换。

Claims (31)

1.在一种计算环境中，一种方法包括：
提供一种机制，根据用户与该机制的相互作用将多组数字数据分类到各类别；和
保存与至少一些分类的多组数字数据关联的类别信息，所述类别信息与每个分类组如何被分类相对应。
2.如权利要求1所述的方法，其特征在于，保存类别信息包括保存元数据。
3.如权利要求2所述的方法，其特征在于，多组数字数据包括数字照片，其中，保存分类元数据包括存储数字照片是否被分类到一组类别中的至少一个类别的指示，所述一组类别包括：隐藏类别、私人类别、多数类别、高光类别、最佳类别和代表类别。
4.如权利要求2所述的方法，其特征在于，保存分类元数据包括接收用户指定的类别。
5.如权利要求1所述的方法，其特征在于，提供将多组数字数据分类的机制包括提供用于滚动多组数据的用户界面。
6.如权利要求5所述的方法，其特征在于，还包括：通过用户界面接收用户指令并根据指令进行滚动。
7.如权利要求5所述的方法，其特征在于，还包括：通过用户界面接收用户指令并根据指令进行分类。
8.如权利要求5所述的方法，其特征在于，还包括：根据与每组数字数据关联的时间数据，安排多组数字数据按时间顺序滚动。
9.如权利要求1所述的方法，其特征在于，还包括：显示代表至少两组数字数据的图像，其中一个图像显示为当前被选图像。
10.如权利要求9所述的方法，其特征在于，显示为被选组的图像大于代表一组数字数据的任何其它图像。
11.如权利要求1所述的方法，其特征在于，将多组数字数据的至少一些分成多个群集，且还包括：显示代表一组数字数据的图像以及可视指示，所述可视指示用于指示该图像对应的数字数据组属于一个群集。
12.如权利要求1所述的方法，其特征在于，还包括：处理类别信息以过滤对应于多组数字数据的输出。
13.如权利要求1所述的方法，其特征在于，多组数字数据包括之前已经被缩小的较大数字数据集合的一个子集。
14.至少一种具有计算机可执行指令的计算机可读媒体，它在执行时执行权利要求1所述的方法。
15.在具有图形用户界面的计算机系统中，所述图形用户界面包括至少一个显示器和至少一个用户选择设备，一种方法包括：
显示表示各组数字数据的多个图像；
根据通过选择设备接收到的用户滚动指令来滚动多个图像；和
根据通过选择设备接收到的用户分类指令来分类多组数字数据中的至少一些；和
根据用户分类指令自动保存与数字数据关联的元数据。
16.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，显示多个图像包括以一般线性流的形式显示图像。
17.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，显示多个图像包括以安排的顺序显示至少两个图像。
18.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，每个图像与一时间相关，其中显示多个图像包括以基于时间的顺序显示图像。
19.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，用户滚动指令对应于手工键盘输入。
20.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，用户滚动指令对应于来自指示设备的输入。
21.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，用户滚动指令对应于自动滚动直到停止的指令。
22.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，根据用户分类指令进行分类包括检测对应于当前被选图像和类别的键盘键动作。
23.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，根据用户分类指令进行分类包括检测对应于当前被选图像和类别的笔的手势。
24.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，还包括显示代表性的类别位置，它包括已经被分类到与该代表性类别位置对应的类别的至少一个图像的缩略图。
25.如权利要求24所述的方法，其特征在于，缩略图图像对应于当前被选图像，且还包括以相对于其它缩略图不同的方式显示所述缩略图图像，以指示当前被选图像已经被分类。
26.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，显示多个图像包括并列地显示两个图像。
27.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，将多组数字数据中的至少一些分成多个群集，其中显示多个图像包括，以指示该图像对应的数字数据组属于一个群集的方式来显示图像。
28.如权利要求27所述的方法，其特征在于，以指示该图像对应的数字数据组属于一个群集的方式显示图像，包括显示一个群集的图像与其它图像之间的间隙。
29.如权利要求27所述的方法，其特征在于，以指示该图像对应的数字数据组属于一个群集的方式显示图像，包括显示围绕一个群集图像的一种颜色的边框以及显示围绕另一群集图像的另一种颜色的边框。
30.如权利要求15所述的方法，其特征在于，多组数字数据包括之前已经被缩小的较大数字数据集合的一个子集。
31.至少一种具有计算机可执行指令的计算机可读媒体，它在执行时执行权利要求15所述的方法。
