本发明涉及包括至少一个图像元件的显示设备以及与图像元件串联的驱动晶体管的显示驱动设备。
这样的显示设备日益基于场致发光的半导体有机材料(也称为发光二极管(多LED或OLED))。该显示器设备可以经由分段像素(或固定模式)发光,但通过矩阵模式的显示器是可能的。二极管电流的调整一般确定由像素发出的光的强度。
适合应用显示设备的领域包括诸如移动电话、组织器等。
在美国专利6014119中描述了在本文的开始段落中描述的类型的显示设备。在所述文件中,通过电流控制来调节通过LED的电流。对于在发光像素矩阵中的每列像素,提供包括双极晶体管和电阻器的电流驱动器,将其作为驱动电路的一部分。可使用MOS晶体管或TFT晶体管替代该双极晶体管。
为了获得可再现的灰度级,某个灰度值的电流必须基本恒定。这就是为什么一般在恒流区内使用晶体管的原因。在此情况下使用高的漏极-源极电压(或在双极晶体管的情况下是发射极-集电极电压)。这使晶体管的偏压对于漏极电压的变化不太敏感,漏极电压的变化是由于诸如像素二极管的正向特性的变化或驱动器的电源电压的变化所引起。
然而,由于驱动器电路的输出的数量可能大于配置有驱动电流的列的数量,在显示设备和显示驱动器电路的大量生产中就出现问题。例如,当驱动电路中提供的信息(比如位于显示器边缘的列)不是显示的合适的图像所必需时,或者当显示器中列的数量小于驱动器电路中可用的列驱动器输出的数量时,可以使这些输出驱动器工作。由于输出驱动器用作电流源,其输出节点的电压迅速增加(或降低),通过电源电压限制该增加。如果列连接出现故障则发生类似的增加。监控输出节点上的电压以维持电源节点和输出节点之间的某个电压值以保持某个工作区中的电流供给。现在,如果一个输出节点的电压增加,电源节点电压也就增加,由此引起输出节点增加等。
这就导致在显示设备和显示驱动器电路中的过度损耗。
此外,由于温度改变,输出电流(或输出节点电压)可能变化,而不同的列驱动器(和不同的列)的性能也可能不同。

尤其是,如果不使用多个列、并且驱动器不打算供其它多个列任何(其它)使用,在晶体管21和输出28(图5)之间引入熔丝40可能是足够的。多余的输出数可以通过选择相应的晶体管21并向它们对应的互连12和电压线11供应合适的电压而被除去。
本发明的保护范围不限于所述的实施例。本发明适用于有源和无源器件、矩阵和分段显示设备。由于驱动设备可用于不同种类的显示设备(大小、损耗、电压),被监控的参考电压或电压差值是可编程的。本发明也适用于场致发射设备和基于电流驱动的其它设备。
本发明存在于每个新颖的特性特征和每个特征的组合中。权利要求书中的标号并不限制权利要求的保护范围。动词“包括”和其变形的使用不排除除权利要求书中所提到的元件以外的元件的存在。在元件前面使用的词“一个”不排除多个这种元件的存在。

Claims (16)

1.一种显示设备,包括多个图像元件和显示驱动器设备,所述显示驱动器设备包括与所述图像元件串联的驱动晶体管,所述显示驱动器设备包括用于监控所述显示驱动器设备的输出电压的装置。
2.如权利要求1的显示设备,其包括用于发信号通知输出电压值到达阈值电压的装置。
3.如权利要求2所述的显示设备,其具有位于所述驱动晶体管和所述图像元件之间的熔断装置。
4.如权利要求1所述的显示设备,其包括反馈机构以控制所述显示驱动器设备的参考电压。
5.如权利要求2所述的显示设备,所述反馈机构还包括控制电路,所述控制电路发信号通知图像元件的显示驱动器设备的输出电压和所述参考电压之间的差值低于阈值电压。
6.如权利要求5所述的显示设备,所述显示驱动器设备包括在所述发信号通知之后检测所述显示驱动器设备的开输出的装置。
7.如权利要求5所述的显示设备,所述显示驱动器设备包括差动放大器。
8.如权利要求4所述的显示设备,由电流源驱动所述图像元件,所述反馈机构将图像元件的显示驱动器设备的输出电压和所述参考电压之间的差值保持基本不变。
9.如权利要求1所述的显示设备,所述图像元件是发光元件,第一电流确定所述发光元件的发光。
10.一种显示驱动器设备,其包括与图像元件串联的驱动晶体管,所述显示驱动器设备包括用于监控所述显示驱动器设备的输出电压的装置。
11.如权利要求10所述的显示驱动器设备,其包括用于发信号通知输出电压值到达阈值电压的装置。
12.如权利要求11所述的显示驱动器设备,其具有位于所述驱动晶体管和所述显示驱动器设备的输出连接之间的熔断装置。
13.如权利要求10所述的显示驱动器,其还包括反馈机构以控制所述显示驱动器设备的参考电压。
14.如权利要求13所述的显示驱动器,所述反馈机构还包括控制电路,所述控制电路发信号通知图像元件的显示驱动器设备的输出电压和所述参考电压之间的差值低于阈值电压。
15.如权利要求10所述的显示驱动器,该显示驱动器设备包括差动放大器,用于在所述发信号通知之后用于检测所述显示驱动器设备的开输出。
16.如权利要求15所述的显示驱动器,其还包括位于所述参考电压和所述显示驱动器设备的输出之间的电流通路中的开关。
