技术领域

这种显示器件越来越依赖于基于场致发光的半导体有机材料,其也被已知为发光二极管(polyLED或OLED)。该显示器件不但能够通过分段像素(或固定图案)发光,而且还能够借助于矩阵图案进行显示。对二极管电流的调节通常确定了将由像素发射的光的强度。
所述显示器件的适用领域例如是移动电话、管理器等。
背景技术
开头段落中所述类型的显示器件在美国专利6014119中有所描述。在所述文献中,流过LED的电流借助于电流控制来调节。对于发光像素矩阵中的每列像素,包括一双极性晶体管和一电阻器的电流驱动器被提供作为驱动电路的一部分。代替双极晶体管,也可使用MOS-或TFT-晶体管。
为了获得可再现的灰度等级,对于某一确定的灰度值来说所述电流必须基本上是恒定的。这就是为什么晶体管在恒定的电流区域中使用的原因。在该情况下,使用了高源-漏电压(或者在双极晶体管的情况下为发射极-集电板电压)。这使得晶体管的偏压对于由例如像素二极管的正向特性的变化而引起的漏极电压的变化或驱动器的供给电压的变化不敏感。另一方面,高漏-源电压(或者在双极晶体管的情况下为发射极-集电极电压)增加了功率消耗。
发明内容
因此本发明的目的是提供一种在开头段落中所述的类型的显示器件,其中由漏-源电压(恒流制输出电压)引起的功率消耗只对总功率消耗增加了一较少的程度。为此,在根据本发明的显示器件中,显示驱动器包括用于监视和控制所述第一电流路径中的电流的装置。
在一优选实施例中,所述驱动晶体管的一控制接线与一控制放大器的输出端相耦合,所述控制放大器的每个输入接线分别与第一和第二电流路径相耦合。通过将第一和第二电流路径中的电流相比较,控制放大器此时强迫第一电流路径中的电流获得某一确定的电流,同时漏-源电压(恒流制输出电压)可以比在饱和区域中的应用所需要的低。这导致较低的功率消耗。所述控制放大器可以通过现有技术中已知的许多不同的方式来实现(比较器、差分放大器、等)。

图1示意的表示根据本发明的显示器件1的一部分的等效电路示图。该显示器件包括一n行(1,2,......,n)m列(1,2,......,m)的(P)LED或(O)LED4的阵列。该器件进一步包括一行选择电路6和一数据寄存器5。外部呈现的信息7例如视频信号在处理单元8中进行处理,所述处理单元8根据将被显示的信息通过线路9对数据寄存器5的各个部分5-1,......,5-n进行充电。

使用具有大k因数的晶体管可增大集成驱动电路所需的面积,因为所需的芯片面积与k~W/1成比例。
图3表示根据本发明的再次包括一第一电流路径(晶体管19和LED4)的器件的一优选实施例。电流Io流进LED4并确定了图像元件的光强度。虚线21示意的表示图2中的显示区域。
第一和第二电流路径现在通过控制放大器25彼此耦合。控制放大器25通过电阻器24(R2)测量输出电流Io,并通过电阻器24上的电压将它与通过电阻器23(R1)测量的电流Ii进行比较。然后控制放大器25借助于Vga的控制迫使所述输出晶体管19获得Io=Ii(R1/R2)。所以第一电流路径中的电流Io按比例(R1/R2)与电流Ii相耦合。
这种反馈允许较大的Vda值。这在图4中相关的示出。当对于Io在饱和边缘使用时,Vda值在点x处被偏压。由于对于Io在该(最大)值处的反馈机制,如果需要,以关于对于具有较高Io(例如在点y处)但还未进入饱和区域的Vds值的Id-Vds曲线对Vgs值进行偏压,所以当设计所述驱动器时,可不必考虑对于该较高Io的较高漏-源电压(恒流制输出电压)。
所以该反馈机制允许较大的Vga值。结果,较低的k值也是可能的,因此获得了较低的耗散和较小的芯片面积。
本发明可应用于有源和无源器件、矩阵和分段显示器件。在一种如图5所示的有源矩阵中,其表示一单个(子)图像元件,额外的开关例如(TFT)开关28、29、30、33和35可被用于选择所述图像元件和给一额外电容26充电。在选择过程中,晶体管19和开关28与29是导通的,这是由选择线路2确定的。包括晶体管24、电容26、晶体管19和开关28与29的电路确定了电流路径,该电流路径受数据输入端8的控制以定义一电流I数据。电容26被充电至由电阻器24两端的电压所确定的电压。在选择之后(在保持周期中),开关28、29、35是不导通的,而开关20、33现在是导通的。在电容器26上残存的电荷现在以这样一种方式对控制放大器25进行控制:反馈机制将电流源19、24中的电流维持在I数据,因此也就将LED4中的电流维持在I数据
