发明领域
本发明涉及造纸工艺,尤其是涉及定量高于约80磅/3000英尺2,一直到并包括约300磅/3000英尺2的纸产品的制造,如文件夹、无波纹容器等的制造,其在办公环境和长期贮藏性(long term storageability)方面显示具有的改进性能。
发明背景
高定量(heavy weight)的纤维素纸(paper)和纸板(paper board)产品如文件夹和纸板文件容器在常规处理和长期贮藏过程中常常遭到液体或湿气损坏。另外,这种产品,若在湿润的环境中贮藏的话,倾向于支持生物生长,这会导致产生令人讨厌的气味。而且,这种产品可被含水液体损坏或弄脏,从而使纸或纸板产品变色。若湿气或含水液体被纸或纸板材料吸收,则该材料可变得潮湿、翘曲和/或强度降低,从而有用性降低并且可能使液体接触并损坏储存用纸或纸板材料制造的在容器中的文件。

发明概述
针对上述和其它目的和优点,本发明提供了增加纤维素纸或纸板产品的长期贮藏性的方法。该方法包括提供由纤维素纤维制造的定量为约80到约300磅/3000英尺2的纸或纸板产品。将保水材料(holdout material)施加到纸或纸板产品的至少一个表面上,以提供纸或纸板的施胶纸幅(sized web)。然后用油墨接受材料(ink receptive material)涂布施胶纸幅以提供油墨接受层,所述油墨接受材料选自含水丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料、含水杀生物剂(biocidal agent)与含水丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料和含水杀生物剂的组合。然后在第一温度下干燥纸幅,以提供涂布的纸幅。为了减少纸幅卷曲(cur),用含水流体润湿纸幅的未涂布侧,并在第二温度下干燥,以提供长期贮藏性增强的纸或纸板产品。

本发明的优点是相对高定量的纸和纸板产品可长期储存,而没有显著变劣或产生有机物而导致气味的产生。本发明的产品还显示出改进的长期耐用性和抵抗因水和其它含水流体引起的损坏与污染。本发明的另一优点是,与因为其光滑表面导致难以彼此堆叠的热塑性涂布的纸幅相比,本发明的纸和纸板纸幅显示出彼此相对小的滑动趋势。

发明详述
现参考图1-4,本发明提供具有保水层12和印刷接受层14、18或20的纸幅10。以下将更详细描述印刷接受层14、18或20。层16优选印刷的图象层,其中所述印刷的图象层优选通过印刷工艺被直接施加到印刷接受层14、18或20上或紧邻印刷接受层14、18或20,所述印刷工艺选自橡胶版轮转印刷机(flexographic printer)、石版印刷机(lithographic printer)、轮转凹版印刷机(rotogravure printer)等。因此,印刷接受层14、18或20优选亲脂或疏水印刷接受层。在一个可供选择的实施方案中,印刷的图象可直接施加到保水层12上,然后用印刷接受层14、18或20涂布印刷的图象。于是可供选择的实施方案中的印刷接受层14、18或20提供接受印刷图象的额外表面,以补充在保水层12上印刷的图象。
纸幅10优选通过常规的造纸工艺,由纤维素纤维制造的纸或纸板纸幅,其定量优选从约80变化到约300磅/3000英尺2或更高。因此,与具有较低定量的纸相比,该纸或纸板是相对刚性的(inflexible)。尤其优选的纸幅10是制造文件夹、马尼拉文件夹(manila folder)、折页文件夹(flap folder)用的纸板纸幅,如Bristol原纸和在办公环境中使用的其它基本上刚性的纸板纸幅,其中包括,但不限于这种文件夹用的纸板容器等。
纸幅10优选用印刷接受层14、18或20涂布,而不是浸渍。因此,在纸幅形成、压光和干燥之后,优选将保水层12施加到纸幅10的至少一个表面上。若用印刷接受层14、18或20涂布纸幅的两个表面,则优选将保水层12施加到纸幅10的两个表面上。通过施胶剂如淀粉施胶剂提供优选的保水层12。当使用淀粉施胶剂作为保水层12时,优选使用约0.5-约1.5wt%来自水盒(water box)的淀粉施胶剂,将施胶剂施加到纸幅10的一个表面上。保水层12和将保水层12施加到纸幅上的方法对本发明来说不是关键的,只要提供抑制印刷接受层14、18或20显著渗透或吸收到纸幅10之内的保水层12就可以。
参考图1,优选的印刷接受层14包括在纸幅10之上由含水丙烯酸类涂布材料制造的层材,其中包括用于降低生物活性的试剂。提供层14的丙烯酸类涂料材料优选是在含水载体液体中的丙烯酸类聚合物乳液或分散液。丙烯酸类聚合物或乳液优选含有约35至约40wt%丙烯酸类聚合物固体,优选是有效增加纸幅10抗含水流体润湿的成膜材料。提供层14的尤其优选的丙烯酸类聚合物乳液材料可以商标MICRYL 474获自Michelman,Inc.(Cincinnati,Ohio)。MICRYL 474涂料材料已在现有技术中用作挠性水泥袋用(cement bags)的纸涂料。水泥袋用的低定量的涂布纸被层压到制造袋子用的塑料膜上。
不管层14是否包括杀生物剂,丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料也可包括其它添加剂,以改进油墨接受层14的油墨接受度。这种其它添加剂包括,但不限于硅石、粘土、聚乙烯醇或交联的丙烯酸类。可通过许多涂布方法,其中包括,但不限于使用橡胶版轮转涂布机(flexographic coater)、刮棒涂布机(rod coater)、轮转凹版涂布机(rotogravure coater)、照相凹版印刷涂布机(offsetcoater)、辊上刮版涂布机(knife over roll coater)、石版涂布机(lithographiccoater)、浸渍涂布机(dip coater)和喷涂机(spray coater),将层14施加到保水层12上。施加到保水层12上的涂布重量优选在约1.5至约3.0磅/3000英尺2范围内,以提供油墨接受层14。
根据本发明制造的纸幅的重要性能是其脱水性(water shedability)或对含水流体的抗湿性。通过Cobb施胶测试,根据ASTMD-3285(TAPPIT-441),测定纸幅对含水流体的抗湿性。文件夹所使用的常规的施胶纸幅具有5分钟的吸水度(water adsorption)在约50至70g/m2测试的纸范围内。含有保水层12和印刷接受层14的纸幅10具有5分钟的吸水度优选在约30至约40g/m2的范围内。
进行Cobb施胶测试的测试装置由中空的金属圆柱体或圆环(内部面积为100,25或10cm2)组成。带有夹具的金属底板用于夹持圆环顶着待测试的纸样品和氯丁橡胶毡片上。当测试样品不均匀时,氯丁橡胶衬垫可用于密封圆柱体紧贴纸幅。测试装置的重要组成是固体不锈钢辊,其具有约20cm宽的光滑平面且重约10kg。还用于测试的是100mL量度的圆柱体,灵敏度为0.01g或更好的天平、吸墨水纸和定时器或秒表。
从涂布的纸幅中将待测试的纸板材料样品切割成大致12.5×12.5cm2。称重该样品并放置在氯丁橡胶毡片上。通过在适当位置锁定十字头(crossbar)并加固两个按钮,将圆柱体夹持在样品上。若样品材料已被质构化(textured),则将毡垫(gasket)放置在样品与圆柱体之间,仔细地沿各自的内部边缘对齐。将测试液体,在此情况下优选水倾入到测试圆柱体内。对于100厘米2的圆柱体来说,测试液体的用量优选100mL。对于较小的圆柱体,按比例地使用较少的液体。在倾倒液体之后,定时器开始提供5分钟的测试。可提供更长和更短的测试时间段。在预定的测试时间段到期之前的15秒处,从圆柱体中快速倾出液体,小心不要将任何液体滴落到测试样品的未处理(外部)部分。从样品上移走圆柱体,和将样品湿的一侧朝上,放置在吸墨水纸片材上。
恰好在预定的测试时间段的终点处,将第二块吸墨水纸片材放置在样品顶部,通过在样品和吸墨水纸上一前一后地移动手压辊(hand roller),除去过剩的液体。注意不要在辊上施加向下的力。然后将样品从吸墨水片材之间移出之后,折叠样品,再次称重精确到0.01g。从样品的最终重量中减去纸幅的起始重量,对于100cm2的圆柱体来说,将以g为单位的增重乘以100,得到每m2吸收的液体重量(g)。
通过将小量含水液体如咖啡、苏打、果汁倾倒在涂布的纸幅上,测定涂布的纸幅的抗污性。然后在30秒之后擦去含水液体,肉眼检测纸幅污染或翘曲(warp)的证据。与常规的纸幅相比,根据本发明所生产的纸幅对暗色液体显示出较小的污染并且具有较低的翘曲。
包括在层14中的降低生物活性的试剂优选氨基甲酸卤代炔基酯。尤其优选的氨基甲酸卤代炔基烷基酯是氨基甲酸卤代丙炔酯,最优选以胶乳分散液形式获得的氨基甲酸3-碘-2-丙炔基丁基酯,其中活性成分以约15至30%重量的量存在于分散液中。尤其优选的杀生物剂包括以商标BUSAN1420、BUSAN 1440和BUSAN 1192D获自Buckman Laboratories(Memphis,Tennessee)的含水分散液。另一优选的杀生物剂以商标POLYPHASE 641和POLYPHASE P100获自Troy Technology Corporation,Inc.(Wilmington,Delaware)。再一优选的杀生物剂以商标VJ2180N获自Progressive Coatings ofShreveport,Louisiana。
可将杀生物剂施加到有或无丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料的纸幅的两个表面上。在图1所代表的实施方案中,将杀生物剂与丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料混合,其用量优选作为层14而施加的丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料的总重的约0.25-约4wt%。
在用丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料涂布纸幅10和层12之后,干燥纸幅,以提供接受印刷16用的油墨接受层14。纸幅优选在烘箱中,或使用干燥辊,在约110℃到约200℃的温度下干燥,以提供不超过约85℃的纸幅温度。优选在约300到约800英寸/分钟或更高的移动纸幅运转下进行整个涂布和干燥工艺。
为了减少纸幅卷曲,当仅在纸幅10的一侧用保水层12和油墨接受层14涂布时,尤其优选用含水流体如水润湿纸幅的未涂布侧。在该情况下,使用最小量的水润湿纸幅的未涂布侧。可使用例如0号棒,将最小量的水施加到纸幅的未涂布侧。
在图2所示的实施方案中,纸幅10包括保水层12和油墨接受层18。优选通过用上述成膜丙烯酸类聚合物材料涂布保水层12,提供油墨接受层18,其中在该丙烯酸类聚合物材料中没有掺入杀生物剂。因此,图2所示的产品也接受印刷层16,显示出如根据上述图1所述的纸幅类似的耐湿性。
图3阐述了本发明的一个实施方案,其中通过用含有上述杀生物剂的含水分散液涂布保水层12,提供油墨接受层20。在该情况下,优选使用橡胶版轮转涂布机、辊上刮版涂布机、轮转凹版涂布机或涂布辊涂布机,用以胶乳涂料材料形式提供的杀生物剂涂布保水层12。优选的涂布机是具有传墨网圆柱体(anilox cylinder)(其中含有至少约250孔/线英寸,各孔具有约70亿微米3/英寸2(bcm)的体积)的橡胶版轮转涂布机。涂布机的线速度优选约200-300英尺/分钟或更高。在用油墨接受层20涂布纸幅后,如上所述在烘箱中或使用干燥辊,在约110℃-200℃的温度下干燥纸幅,提供不超过约85℃的纸幅温度。当仅用降低生物活性的试剂涂布纸幅时,尤其优选涂布纸幅10的两侧。因此,优选将保水层12施加到纸幅10的两个表面。

在下述实施例中,使用3号棒,用来自Michelman,Inc.的MICRYL 474涂料涂布未涂布的纸,通过空气温度为约176℃的强迫通风干燥纸幅,提供涂布纸幅。接着,使用0号棒,用水润湿纸幅的未涂布侧。然后在约120℃下干燥纸幅,以降低纸幅的卷曲。在约400英尺/分钟下,在生产线上进行涂布和润湿步骤。根据上述5分钟的Cobb上胶测试,测定涂布纸幅的脱水性。结果见下表。

2.权利要求1的方法,其中油墨接受层包括固含量为约30至约45wt%的含水丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料。
3.权利要求2的方法,其中含水丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料包括成膜的含水丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料。
4.权利要求1的方法,其中纸幅用含水杀生物剂涂布,所述含水杀生物剂包括氨基甲酸卤代炔基酯胶乳乳液。
5.权利要求4的方法,其中含水杀生物剂包括含约20至约30wt%活性杀生物成分的胶乳乳液。
6.权利要求1的方法,其中以约1.5至约3.0磅/3000英尺2的用量将油墨接受材料施加到纸幅上。
7.权利要求1的方法,其中在约150℃至约200℃的第一温度下干燥纸幅,以提供不超过约85℃的纸幅温度。
8.权利要求1的方法,其中第二温度低于第一温度。
9.权利要求1的方法,其中使用选自橡胶版轮转涂布机、刮棒涂布机、轮转凹版涂布机、照相凹版印刷涂布机、辊上刮版涂布机、石版涂布机、浸渍涂布机和喷涂机的涂布工艺,将油墨接受材料施加到纸幅上。
10.权利要求1的方法,其中使用表面施胶装置,将油墨接受材料施加到纸幅上。
11.通过权利要求1的方法制造的纸或纸板产品。
12.具有增加的长期贮藏性的纸或纸板复合材料,其包括:
由纤维素纤维基质形成的基层,该基层具有第一表面、第二表面并且定量为约80到约300磅/3000英尺2
与基层的第一表面相邻的保水层,和
与保水层相邻的油墨接受层,该油墨接受层选自含水丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料、含水杀真菌剂与含水丙烯酸类聚合物涂料材料和含水杀真菌剂的组合。
13.权利要求12的复合材料,进一步包括施加到油墨接受层上的印刷的图象层。
14.权利要求12的复合材料,进一步包括在保水层与油墨接受层之间设置的印刷的图象层。
15.权利要求12的复合材料,其中油墨接受层包括通过涂布固含量为约30至约45wt%的油墨接受涂料材料而提供的含水的成膜丙烯酸类聚合物层。
16.权利要求12的复合材料,其中油墨接受层包括含水杀生物剂。
17.权利要求16的复合材料,其中含水杀生物剂包括氨基甲酸3-碘-2-丙炔基丁基酯。
18.权利要求12的复合材料,其中该复合材料包括文件夹。
19.降低在贮藏的纸或纸板产品上的微生物生长的方法,该方法包括提供由纤维素纤维制造的定量为约80到约300磅/3000英尺2的纸或纸板产品,将约0.5至约1.5wt%的淀粉施胶剂施加到纸或纸板产品的至少一个表面上以提供纸或纸板的施胶纸幅,用含水杀生物剂涂布施胶纸幅并干燥该纸幅以提供微生物生长趋势降低的纸或纸板产品。
20.权利要求19的方法,其中含水杀生物剂包括含约15至约30wt%活性杀杀生物剂的胶乳涂料材料。
21.权利要求19的方法,其中用淀粉施胶剂与含水杀生物剂涂布纸或纸板产品的两个表面。
22.改进纸或纸板产品的脱水性的方法,该方法包括提供由纤维素纤维制造的定量为约80到约300磅/3000英尺2的纸或纸板产品,将约0.5至约1.5wt%的淀粉施胶剂施加到纸或纸板产品的至少一个表面上以提供纸或纸板的施胶纸幅,用油墨接受涂料材料涂布施胶纸幅以提供油墨接受层,在第一温度下干燥涂布并施胶的纸幅以提供具有改进的脱水性的纸或纸板产品,从而产品显示出根据Cobb施胶测试测定的吸水度为约30至约40g/m2的液体抗性。
23.权利要求22的方法,其中油墨接受层包括以约1.5至约3.0磅/3000英尺2纸或纸板纸幅的量施加的含水丙烯酸类聚合物涂料。
24.权利要求22的方法,进一步包括用含水流体润湿纸幅的未涂布侧以降低纸幅的卷曲,并在第二温度下干燥纸幅。
25.权利要求22的方法,其中用施胶剂和油墨接受涂料材料涂布纸幅的两侧。
