如上所述,调整栅极-源极电压以补偿例如驱动晶体管110的迁移率或阈值电压中的偏差(例如,与显示器105中的其他驱动晶体管的差异或随时间的变化)可能是有利的。图2示出了具有输出200和输入202的像素驱动和感测电路145,输出200和输入202中的每一个可以通过显示器105中的相对长的导体(其可以被称为“列导体”)(在图2中由电阻Rp和电容Cp建模)选择性地连接至像素的驱动感测导体135。输出200(当列导体被驱动时)或输入202(当像素电流被感测时,如下面进一步详细讨论的)可以在任何给定时间连接至列导体(如图2中示出了这些连接的虚线所图示的)。
在操作中,伽马电路205可以生成一系列代码字,每个代码字与由驱动晶体管110驱动通过发光二极管120的相应电流相对应。然后可以使用三个补偿系数来调整代码字。可以将第一补偿系数(图2中的“A”)乘以接收到的代码字,以形成第一补偿代码字,并且可以将第二补偿系数(图2中的“C”)与接收到的代码字相加,以形成第二补偿代码字。这两个补偿步骤可用于近似地补偿(i)驱动晶体管110的迁移率与标称或理想晶体管的迁移率之间的任何差异,以及(ii)驱动晶体管110的阈值电压与标称或理想晶体管的阈值电压之间的任何差异。
波形生成电路210然后可以使用第三补偿系数(图2中的“α”)从第二补偿代码字生成具有以下电压的波形:V(n)+α(V(n)-V(n-1))p(t)。换句话说,该波形可以具有处于第一电压的第一部分和处于第二电压的第二部分。该波形的示例是图3D的“通道RC输入”曲线。第二电压可以与第二补偿代码字成比例,并且可以是待施加至晶体管的电压。第一电压可以更大,并且可以提供预加重以部分地抵消显示器105中的列导体的低通滤波效果。第三补偿系数可以是第一电压与第二电压的比率。当该波形由第一数模转换器(DAC)215转换为模拟形式、由驱动放大器220(其此时可以连接至显示器105中的列导体)放大并馈送至显示器105中的列导体时,在其期间驱动放大器220的输出电压增加因子α的第一部分可能导致驱动感测导体135上的电压更快地收敛到期望值,该期望值是在波形的第二部分期间驱动放大器220的输出处的电压。
当输入202连接至列导体时,并且当电流不被驱动通过发光二极管120(例如,因为发光二极管120被反向偏置)时,像素驱动和感测电路145可以被用来感测由驱动晶体管110驱动的电流。在电流感测模式中,如上所述,发光二极管120被反向偏置,并且流过驱动晶体管110的电流(其可以被称为“像素电流”)流入像素驱动和感测电路145的输入202。在像素驱动和感测电路145中,从像素电流中减去(由第二数模转换器225控制的)参考电流;由积分器227和比较器(或“限幅器”)228处理该差,以生成可以被称为“像素电流误差信号”的信号,并且该信号是像素电流与参考电流之间的差的符号(sign)。

当调整第一补偿系数和第二补偿系数时,将驱动信号施加至像素的时间间隔的长度可以从正常操作期间使用的长度增加,并且所以即使第三补偿系数的值(下面进一步详细讨论)不正确,驱动感测导体135处的电压也有时间达到像素驱动和感测电路145的输出200处的电压。较长的时间间隔的这种使用有助于将第三补偿系数的估计与第一补偿系数和第二补偿系数的估计解耦。
可以以类似的方式来调整第三补偿系数。当调整第三补偿系数时,可以使用较短的时间间隔,较短的时间间隔中的每一个可以与在正常操作期间(当显示图像或视频时)用于驱动显示器105的时间间隔具有相同的长度。例如,可以使用在第四时间间隔(其中接收和处理第四代码字)之前的第三时间间隔(其中接收和处理第三代码字)。

在一些实施例中,第一数模转换器215和第二数模转换器225中的仅一个在任何时间是活动的(当像素驱动和感测电路145的输出200连接至列导体并且像素被驱动时,第一数模转换器215是活动的,并且当像素驱动和感测电路145的输入202连接至列导体并且像素电流被感测时,第二数模转换器225是活动的)。在这样的实施例中,可能不必采用两个数模转换器。代替地,通过相应的开关(例如,晶体管开关)连接至在图2的图中分别由第一数模转换器215和第二数模转换器225驱动的两个节点的单个数模转换器可以用于执行两种功能。在一些实施例中,参考电流源是使用利用电压斜坡驱动电容器的数模转换器来实现的;当要生成小电流时,这种实现可以导致更高的精度。
对于一些实施例,如本文中所描述的,图3A和图3B是仿真结果的曲线图,该曲线图示出了在已经自适应地调整第一补偿系数和第二补偿系数之前(图3A)和之后(图3B)由驱动晶体管110驱动的电流。Iref中有限的上升时间可能是由于数模转换器的上升时间是有限的。图3C和图3D是仿真结果的曲线图,该曲线图示出了对于第三补偿系数为零的情况(图3C)和已经调整第三补偿系数以减少驱动感测导体135处的电压的建立时间(settlingtime)的情况(图3D),像素驱动和感测电路145的输出200处的电压(“通道RC输入”)、驱动感测导体135处的电压(“通道RC输出”,曲线310)和驱动晶体管110的栅极-源极电压(“VGS”,曲线315)。在1微秒之后,列导体可以断开与驱动晶体管110的连接,结果,即使(例如,如图3C中所示)驱动感测导体135的电压持续变化,VGS也可以在1微秒之后恒定。可以看出,当不使用预加重时,建立时间约为1.5微秒,而在使用预加重时,在适当地调整第三补偿系数的情况下,建立时间小于0.6微秒。
在一些实施例中,一旦期望的电流与感测的电流之间的差异足够小,就可以终止对补偿系数的调整。例如,在任一时间间隔期间,可以将像素电流与相对应的参考电流IRef进行比较,以获得电流差信号,该电流差信号为像素电流与相对应的参考电流IRef之间的差。然后,(i)当电流差信号的绝对值超过阈值时,可以例如以上面描述的方式更新一个或多个补偿系数,并且(ii)当电流差信号的绝对值不超过阈值时,一个或多个补偿系数可以保持不变。
在一些实施例中,补偿系数的自适应可以在像素电流值的已知子集上运行,这意味着像素可以在感测过程开始时通过电压(从一组已知的预定值中选择)进行编程。可替代地,自适应可以在被编程到像素的实际实时视频数据上运行。感测过程可以在显示器105正在显示图像时执行,或者可以在消隐时段期间执行。补偿系数的初始自适应可以在工厂中执行,并且值可以保存在非易失性存储器中。然后,每次打开显示器105作为其一部分的设备(例如,电话)时,都可以使用保存的补偿系数的值(例如,保存的出厂值或上次关闭设备之前的保存值)作为初始值来执行实时自适应。对于显示器105的列中的每一对,驱动器IC(图1中的“DIC”)可以包含图2的电路的副本,并且对于列中的像素中的每一个,驱动器IC可以包含具有三个补偿系数值的表。在一些实施例中,补偿系数中的一些可以被共享,例如,驱动器IC可以为显示器105的整行仅维持一个α值。
如本文中所使用的,当第一部件被描述为“选择性地连接”至第二部件时,第一部件通过开关(例如,晶体管开关)连接至第二部件,使得根据开关的状态,第一部件可以连接至第二部件或断开与第二部件的连接。

基于所述第二像素电流误差信号,更新所述像素的所述一个或多个补偿系数。
13.根据权利要求12所述的系统,进一步被配置成:
在所述第一时间间隔期间,将第一控制电压施加至所述像素,所述第一控制电压基于第一接收到的代码字;并且
在所述第二时间间隔期间,将第二控制电压施加至所述像素,所述第二控制电压基于第二接收到的代码字。
14.根据权利要求13所述的系统,进一步被配置成:
在所述第一时间间隔期间,基于所述第一接收到的代码字生成所述第一参考电流;并且
在所述第二时间间隔期间,基于所述第二接收到的代码字生成所述第二参考电流。
15.根据权利要求14所述的系统,其中所述一个或多个补偿系数包括:
第一补偿系数,和
第二补偿系数,
其中将所述第一控制电压施加至所述像素包括:
将所述第一接收到的代码字乘以所述第一补偿系数以形成第一补偿代码字;并且
将所述第二补偿系数与所述第一补偿代码字相加以形成第二补偿代码字。
16.根据权利要求15所述的系统,其中所述一个或多个补偿系数进一步包括:
第三补偿系数;并且
其中将所述第一控制电压施加至所述像素进一步包括:将具有在第一电压处的第一部分和在第二电压处的第二部分的波形施加至延伸至所述像素的导体,
所述第二电压与所述第二补偿代码字成比例,并且
所述第一电压与所述第二电压的比率为所述第三补偿系数。
17.根据权利要求16所述的系统,其中在所述第二时间间隔期间更新所述一个或多个补偿系数进一步基于所述第二接收到的代码字与所述第一接收到的代码字之间的差。
18.根据权利要求17所述的系统,其中在所述第二时间间隔期间更新所述一个或多个补偿系数包括:
将所述第一补偿系数与以下各项的乘积相加:
所述第二像素电流误差信号,
所述第二接收到的代码字与所述第一接收到的代码字之间的所述差,和
第一常数。
19.根据权利要求18所述的系统,其中在所述第二时间间隔期间更新所述一个或多个补偿系数进一步包括:
将所述第二补偿系数与以下各项的乘积相加:
所述第二像素电流误差信号,和
第二常数。
20.一种用于补偿显示器的特性的系统,包括:
所述显示器,包括像素;和
用于驱动所述像素并感测在所述像素中生成的电流的装置,
所述系统被配置成:
在第一时间间隔期间:
将所述像素的第一像素电流与第一参考电流进行比较,以获得第一像素电流误差信号,所述第一像素电流误差信号为所述第一像素电流与所述第一参考电流之间的差的符号;并且
基于所述第一像素电流误差信号,更新所述像素的一个或多个补偿系数;并且
在第二时间间隔期间:
将所述像素的第二像素电流与第二参考电流进行比较,以获得第二像素电流误差信号,所述第二像素电流误差信号为所述第二像素电流与所述第二参考电流之间的差的符号;并且
基于所述第二像素电流误差信号,更新所述像素的所述一个或多个补偿系数。
