Abstract

用于在衬底上固定可辐射固化胶状油墨影像的方法和设备
技术领域
本公开内容涉及利用可辐射固化油墨打印。
背景技术
传统的打印设备使用影像接收器将油墨施加到打印纸。然而,需要提供一种系统,其中如上所述的这种油墨可直接施加到打印纸或别的衬底。在实际应用中,这种系统的一个挑战是这种油墨在室温下倾向于具有像“蛋黄酱”那样的稠度,但是当加热以易于喷射时,又变成低粘度液体。通常的喷墨打印过程将油墨加热为液体,然后直接将油墨滴从压电式喷头喷到衬底上。一旦所喷射的油墨打到该衬底,它就从液体变回成其更粘的稠度的相,由此降低其进入多孔介质的渗透程度。一旦这个油墨暴露于紫外(UV)辐射,油墨中的光敏引发剂受到UV辐射轰击,入射通量将在油墨中存在的单体转变为交联聚合物基体,在纸上产生非常硬且耐久的标记。
然而,期望油墨在被UV固化之前压平。原因是光泽更加均匀,缺失的喷射点可以掩盖掉,以及某些应用(如包装)要求具有相对固定厚度的薄层。因为这些油墨具有类似蛋黄酱的稠度,所以它们在固化之前具有极小的粘合强度。另外,油墨通常设计为对许多材料具有良好的亲和性。这意味着传统的弄平油墨层的方法往往会失效,因为油墨裂开并且在试图弄平它的装置上留下许多影像,如静电印刷术中常用的传统的定影辊。本说明书提出一种解决这个问题的方法。
发明内容
按照一个方面,提供一种用于将油墨固定在衬底上的设备。设置压平构件以接触在辊隙处的该衬底承载油墨的侧面。设置第一辐射源以将辐射引导至该辊隙处的该衬底的承载油墨的侧面,该辐射适于固化该衬底上的油墨。

具体实施方式
图1是按照第一实施例、用在更大的打印设备中的固定设备的简化正视图。纸或衬底(由任何合适的材料制成的)S承载未固定的油墨影像I沿工艺方向P接近固定设备,该设备包括可转动构件(这里是油墨侧压平辊子10的形式)和支持构件(这里是支持辊子20的形式)。在一个实际的实施例中,该油墨影像I此时包括未固化的、粘性液体,其还没有明显渗入该衬底S。在辊子10和20之间形成的辊隙,该未固定的油墨I被辊隙压力机械“压平”,其有效地使多色油墨的各种不同的层呈现出相对衬底S的表面I固定的总的高度。
与在该辊隙施加机械压力同时,将辐射能施加到该油墨I,该辐射能包括当衬底S的任何小的区域通过该辊隙时化学固化衬底S上油墨I的合适的波长(通常为UV)。为此,在压平辊子10内设置辐射源30,对于这个实施例,该辐射源可包括一个或多个UV灯或UV-发射LED阵列,其在该衬底S移动通过该辊隙时将辐射引导至该辊隙中的该油墨I。源30或多个源的功率使得对于给定的工艺速度该油墨I在离开该辊隙时完全固化。
在这样的一个实施例中,该压平辊子10的壁有效透过该固化辐射,所以该辐射有效到达该辊隙中的油墨I。根据可能的实施例,压平辊子10由带有冷缩配合释放层表面的石英内芯组成。压平辊子10的外层是低表面能量材料,其也可以透过UV辐射如透明PTFE,但是其他代替物也是可以的,如氟碳化合物。该支持辊子20是通常由硅酮设于金属之上形成。
图1中还示出IR灯40或等同物,对于给定的特定材料集合(油墨和衬底),用于在需要时预热衬底S。已知类型的温度传感器50可就在该辊隙上游测量该压平辊子10的表面温度,所记录的温度可供控制系统使用。
该油墨I的固化与在辊隙处形成机械压力同时进行,从而在仍然处于压平状态时可以引起该油墨中单体链的充分的交联反应,这样在影像I离开由辊子10和20形成的辊隙时可以基本上完成聚合。聚合过程产生耐久的固体材料,其有一定的收缩。该收缩和硬度与辊子10上的低表面能量层结合导致产生使得影像倾向于自己从该辊子10剥落的条件。
图2是按照第二实施例,用在更大的打印设备中的固定设备的简化正视图。与图1类似的参考标号在图2中表示相似的元件。图2的实施例与图1的不同之处在于,代替该支持辊子的是可转动支持带22,其围绕该压平辊子10沿相当大的包角形成辊隙。该带22可围绕任何数量的内部辊子24传输以提供必要的抵着压平辊子10的辊隙压力。该支持带22提供长得多的油墨在机械压力下的停留时间以由辐射源30固化。支持带22的一种基本组成包括带有硅酮涂层的聚酰亚胺。
图3是按照第三实施例,用在更大的打印设备中的固定设备的简化正视图。图1或图2中相似的参考标号在图3中表示类似元件。在这个实施例中,代替压平辊子的是压平带12,其围绕任何数目的内部辊子14,对着支持带22形成辊隙。设在压平带22内的可调节压力辊子16可沿该辊隙中的一点驱使该带的一部分抵靠支持带22,该支持带可由压力板26支撑,如所示。
该压平带12包括多个层。内层提供用来支撑的耐久表面和驱动表面。一种合适的材料是透明(对UV)聚酰亚胺。压平带12的外层包括也透过UV辐射的低表面能量材料;一种合适的材料是透明PTFE,但也可是其他的替代物,如氟碳化合物。这些层之间的粘合剂也必须有效透过UV。
通过该支持带22内稍微歪曲的压力板26将整个辊隙长度上的辊隙压力保持恒定,该压力板施加垂直于该支持带22的力并由此将其推进该压平带12,并使得通过那里的衬底S相对于其上为固化的油墨I向外弯曲。这种向外的弯曲有助于油墨的自行脱落。
从图3中可进一步看出,如上所述的IR灯40设在压平带12内沿工艺方向P的辊隙的前部。这些灯(或等同物)按照需要使该油墨I和衬底S在固化之前达到预先设定的温度。接着该可调节压力辊子16,该UV源30将该油墨I固化在衬底S上。
尽管在所说明的实施例中,两个辐射源首先提供IR用于加热然后提供UV用于固化,但是不同的应用需要不同的辐射源布置。例如,如果多种油墨设在衬底S上,如对于不同的基色或其他属性(如磁性),则需要首先固化一种油墨(具有一个特定的固化波长),然后是另一个(具有另一特定的固化波长)。该辐射源可布置为实现这个顺序的固化。或者,多个辐射源在其他方面不同(如波幅)以对于给定的特定材料集合获得所需要的印刷属性,如光泽。

Claims (4)

1.一种用于将油墨固定在衬底上的设备,包括:
压平构件,设置为在辊隙处接触衬底的承载油墨的侧面;以及
第一辐射源,设置为将辐射引导至该辊隙处的该衬底的承载油墨的侧面,该辐射适于固化该衬底上的油墨。
2.根据权利要求1所述的设备,该压平构件可转动,该第一辐射源大体上设在该可转动压平构件内,该第一可转动构件有效透过辐射。
3.根据权利要求1所述的设备,进一步包括第二辐射源,该第二辐射源在该第一辐射源之前将辐射引导至该衬底。
4.根据权利要求1所述的设备,进一步包括支持构件,其设置为在该辊隙处对着该衬底的承载油墨的侧面接触该衬底。
