Process for the preparation of azo dyes The invention relates to a process for the Her position of azo dyes of the formula
EMI0001.0003
wherein A is the radical of an azo dye, y is the direct bond or a divalent radical, R1 and R, identical or different, optionally substituted hydrocarbon radicals or R1, R2 and -N- or R1, -N- and y together are a heterocyclic ring system,
R3 is hydrogen or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, R @ an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, or R3 and R4 can form a heterocyclic ring system with -N-, n is an integer and X is an anion equivalent to the dye cation, characterized in that one Compound of formula
EMI0001.0018
where B denotes the remainder of an intermediate product which can be converted into an azo dye residue A converted into an azo dye by normal coupling.
Particularly suitable azo dyes are mono-, dis- or polyazo dyes; they can contain metal atoms bonded in a coordinated manner.
They belong e.g. benzene-azo-benzene, benzene-azo-naphthalene, benzene-azo-pyrazolone, benzene-azo-acylacetic acid-arylamide-, benzene-azo-phenol-, benzene-azo-benzene-azo-phenol Thiazole-azo-benzene, thiadiazole-azo-pyrazolone, pyridine-azo-indole or quinoline-azo-benzene series.
Suitable substituents in these are preferably those which are customary in acetate silk and polyester dyes, e.g. Halogen atoms or cyano, nitro or hydroxyl groups or optionally substituted alkyl, alkoxy, alkylsulfonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, alkylcarbonyloxy, carboxamide or sulfonic acid amide groups.
Optionally substituted alkylene groups, which may be interrupted by heteroatoms, are preferably suitable as bridge members y. y can also e.g. form a ring system with R1 and -N-, so that ring groupings, e.g. sen suitable. In this way, polyacrylonitrile can be colored in the mass in lightfast and wetfast shades.
Some of the new dyes can, for example, be used to dye tannin cotton, wool, silk, regenerated cellulose, synthetic polyamides and paper. It has been shown that mixtures of two or more of the new dyes can also advantageously be used.
The dyeings and prints obtained have good light, washing, perspiration, sublimation and pleating properties. Fastness to decatur, ironing, water, sea water, dry cleaning, over-dyeing and solvents.
In the following example, the parts are parts by weight and the percentages are percentages by weight. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example A mixture of 10.8 parts of 2-amino-6-methoxy-benzothiazole and 160 parts of 50% sulfuric acid is mixed at 0 with a nitrosylsulfuric acid prepared from 4.4 parts of sodium nitrite and 60 parts of sulfuric acid.

arise. The coupling of an intermediate of formula (1I) with a dye or dye intermediate is e.g. made in a known manner, advantageously in weakly alkaline to acidic, optionally buffered medium.
The dyes obtained can e.g. by filtering off, optionally after concentration or precipitation. In the course of the separation or in a further stage, the anions can be exchanged for other anions, e.g. against methyl sulfate, sulfate, disulfate, perchlorate, chloride, bromide, iodide, phosphate, phosphorus molybdate, benzenesulfonate, acetate,
Propionate or benzoate ions or against complex anions, e.g. that of chlorzinc double salts.
The new dyes are preferably used for dyeing, padding or printing moldings, in particular special fibers, threads or textiles made therefrom, made from polymers made from more than 80% acrylonitrile, for example from polyacrylonitrile,
or copolymers of 80 to 95% acrylonitrile and 20-5% vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate or methyl methacrylate, etc. Dyeing is particularly advantageous in an aqueous, neutral or acidic medium at boiling point or at temperatures above 100 ° C. under pressure. Here, very level colorations are obtained even without the use of retarders. Mixed fabrics which contain a proportion of polyacrylonitrile fibers can also be dyed very well.
Those dyes which have good solubility in organic solvents are also diazotized for coloring natural plastic masses or dissolved or undissolved plastic, synthetic resin or natural resin mas solution. After 2 hours, 0.5 part of aminosulfonic acid is added, and the mixture is added dropwise at 0 to a solution of 16.5 parts of the compound of the formula
EMI0002.0106
in 200 parts of water and brings the batch to a pH of 5 by adding aqueous ammonia. The resulting dye of the formula
EMI0003.0001
is filtered off and dried.
It dyes polyacrylonitrile fibers from a buffered bath (acetic acid / sodium acetate) in real red shades. In a strongly acidic bath or after quaternizing the thiazole N atom, bright blue colorations are obtained.
