<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Waterproof watch case The present invention relates to a waterproof watch case comprising a bottom with a flat edge fixed to a notch on a middle part.
The watch case according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a sealing gasket fitted under, the flat edge of said back cover inside the latter, an annular sealing strip on which said back cover comes to fit together by pressure and against which the seal is applied once the bottom is in place, and a movement-carrying circle fitted against the sealing strip to reinforce it.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the waterproof watch case forming the subject of the present invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 are diametral sections of part of the box according to these two embodiments.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the watch case comprises a bottom 1 with a flat edge 2 fixed to a notch on a middle part 3 as will be described below. This middle part 3 comprises handles 4 for fixing a watch strap, not shown, and a watch glass 5 crimped in a sealed manner in the face of the middle part 3 opposite to the bottom 1.
The middle part 3 has on its lower face an annular side battue 7 on which the bottom 1 comes to fit together by pressure, the outer side face of this battue being rounded to facilitate the fitting of the bottom. A seal 6 made of an elastic material resistant to corrosive agents is crimped in a circular groove formed under the flat edge 2 of the bottom 1, inside thereof. This seal 6 is elastically applied in a sealed manner against said rounded face of the battue 7 when the bottom is in place. There is thus no wear of the seal which ensures the seal by its inherent elasticity.
A movement-carrying circle 8 is also fitted notch against the sealing strip 7 to reinforce the latter. For this purpose, the inner side face of the battue 7, as well as the cooperating part of said circle, are conical.
A movement 9 with dial 10 is retained in the movement-carrying circle 8 by a shoulder 11, the dial 10 abutting against an annular rim 12 of the middle part.
In the second embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the same reference numerals designate the same components.
While in the form of the previous execution the pressure exerted between the seal 6 and the rounded side face of the battue 7 is directed radially, in the second embodiment the pressure between the battue 7 'and the seal 6 'is directed axially. The seal 6 'is inserted in a circular groove made under the flat edge 2 of the bottom 1, and extends below the battue 7' when the bottom is in place.
To retain the bottom 1 on the battue 7 ', the outer face 13 thereof is frustoconical so as to form an eagle tail attachment. By this method of fixing, a traction is exerted on the bottom 1 so that the seal 6 'is pressed against the battue 7'. This seal 6 ′ is sufficiently wide to extend inwardly under the movement-carrying circle 8 ′ thus forming a damper. The compression of the seal 6 'depends only on the axial space formed between the battue 7' and the bottom 1 once the latter is in place. The 6 'seal does not

that thus not to be deformed after a certain time, as it is the case for the boxes with screwed bottoms.
The movement-carrying circle 8 is adjusted exactly behind the battue 7 'which it reinforces in the manner of a tension ring.
The bottom is opened using a knife blade, for example, inserted into a pin made in the flat edge of said bottom, but which has not been shown in the drawing.
The assembly according to the embodiment shown in FIG. 2 makes it possible to produce a watch case that is flatter than that of FIG. 1.
In both embodiments, the movement-carrying circle is very clear on the back side, which allows easy access to all the movement components.
The watch case described does not have the drawbacks of the screwed back and has the advantage of being particularly simple to manufacture and, consequently, of a low cost price.
