Sofa convertible into bed The present invention relates to a sofa convertible into a bed comprising on the one hand a fixed frame, and on the other hand, a movable part consisting of two elements articulated to each other and respectively forming the backrest and seat, characterized in that two pivoting arms articulated on the one hand on each side of the backrest element, and on the other hand at the rear of the fixed frame, connect the movable part to said fixed frame which has supports located at the front, while the seat element carries articulated retractable feet coming to be upright during the transformation into bed.
The appended drawing represents by way of example a particular embodiment of the sofa which is the subject of the invention and in which FIG. 1 shows in perspective and from behind, the sofa bed in its seat position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view in the bed position. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the sofa in the position shown in fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the sofa in the position shown in fig. 2.
Fig. 5 shows in perspective, the frame of said sofa bed.
In the form shown by way of example, the sofa bed comprises a frame (fig. 5) consisting of two tubular elements forming an elbow, one branch of which 1 acts as a base and rests on the ground and a branch 2 raised obliquely. side upright office. Carefully placed transverse struts 3 and 4 give the chassis perfect rigidity. A central support formed of two angled uprights 5 connected by a transverse cross bar 6 is welded to the spacers 3 and 4. The upper parts 7 of the branches 2 are folded inwards and carry rolling rollers 8 forming a support.
Two pivoting arms 9 are articulated at 10 at the rear of the base 1 and their upper part is shaped as a bracket 11 directed outwards.
Two wooden frames 12 and 13 respectively constitute the backrest and seat frames, these frames carry the usual springs or elastic leaves forming a bed base (not shown in the drawing) and are furthermore provided with metal spacers 14 and 15 in the form arches, avoiding any deformation of the frames. The frames 12 and 13 are articulated to one another by hinges 16.
Armrests composed of two triangular panels 17, 18, having an adjacent side 19 are provided laterally. In the bed position, these panels are presented symmetrically with respect to the articulation axis 16 of the assembly and constitute the head and foot panels. The frame 12 of the backrest has two lugs 20 to which the two arms 9 are articulated, suitably braced at 22.
A retractable foot 24 mounted under the front part of the seat frame 13 pivots at 25 on a tab 26, a linkage 27 articulated at 28 on the foot 24 connects the latter to the frame 12 of the backrest at a point 29. In addition, under the frame 13 of the seat, locking pieces or hooks 30 and 31 cooperate respectively with the transverse bar 6 in the seat position and with the supports 7 in the bed position.
A notch 32 made under the frame 13 serves as a stop for said frame when the piece of furniture acts as a sofa. The sofa bed has a hinged mattress 33 and the frames 12 and 13 as well as the armrests 17 and 18 are padded.
To transform this piece of furniture into a bed, it suffices to slightly lift the front edge of the frame 13, which releases the notch 32 of the support 7 and to pull this element forward.
During this movement, the hook 30 is no longer in contact with the crosspiece 6; the sides of the frame 13 slide on the guide roller 8 in the direction of arrow F driving the frame 12 which tilts according to the arrow Fi thanks to the arms 9, said arms pivoting forward in the direction of the arrow F2 . During this time the rod 27 pulls on the foot 24, the latter tilts according to the arrow F3.
At the end of the movement, when the elements 12 and 13 are aligned horizontally, the retractable foot 24 supports the projecting part of the bed, the hook 31 is engaged on the journal 7 thus supporting the central part of the bed. The lowered arms 9 have their spacer 22 in contact with the spacer 6 of the central support 5, the arches 14 rest on the spacer 22 and hold the element 12 horizontally.
The whole is then presented in a particularly aesthetic aspect and the bed frames are perfectly supported.
To transform the cabinet in the opposite direction in order to bring it back to its seat position, it suffices to simply push back the front frame 13 by lifting it so as to release the hook 31 from the support 7, the arms 9 raise the frame 12 , the element 13 slides on the rollers 8; the pivoting foot 24 folds up, the hooks 30 engage under the transverse bar 6, the notches 32 cover the supports 7, the elements 12 and 13 are then in the seat position.
Due to the fact that the mechanism ensuring the transformation of the sofa into a bed is simply reduced to two pivoting levers, the piece of furniture is practically indestructible, no component part working on wear, shear or torsion. In addition, it should be noted that the use of welded metal tubes to constitute the frame gives the latter the maximum strength and undeformability.
The balance of the whole is perfectly designed, the sofa bed presents itself in a particularly aesthetic aspect due to the side panels which in the sleeping position are presented in a symmetrical form. Naturally, these panels could perfectly well have a shape other than that provided for in the example described and shown.
The sofa bed described above has been given only by way of non-limiting example. For example, without departing from the scope of the invention, it would be possible to provide a chaise-longue-type seat comprising the same components and functioning in an identical manner, further equipped with racks capable of giving the backrest different inclinations, in order to be able to use this furniture as an armchair,
lounge chair, relaxation seat. On the other hand, it would be possible without inconvenience to replace the tubular metal frame with a frame made entirely of wood. Likewise, the shape of this frame could be different from that shown in the accompanying drawings.
