Fauteuil transformable--.

Convertible armchair -.
The present invention relates to an armchair or sofa capable of being transformed into a lounge chair or bed.
Numerous constructions of armchair beds are already known based on the folding of the different parts constituting the bed, so that some of these parts form, after folding, the seat and the back of the armchair. or sofa. The known constructions have, however, the disadvantage that, when extending the different parts which are to constitute the bed or the chaise longue, these parts are at the same level so that it is impossible to remove them. give the end portion forming the bolster the inclination which may be desired for the upper part of the body. In addition, in most of these constructions, it is necessary to move the piece of furniture during its transformation, in order to allow the backrest to form a bolster to be folded down.
The current invention aims to remedy these drawbacks and is characterized essentially by this fact that the end part forming a bolster or support for the

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
armchair, either the chaise longue or bed in their extended position *
Each of these parts comprises a frame 5-5a or 5b internally receiving the parts 6-6a and 6b forming mattresses.
On these parts, or at least on two of them 6 and 6a are arranged and fixed in the known manner, fittings 7 and 8 intended to form the backrest and the seat of the armchair. These linings can be provided with springs or padding, as is the case in constructions of this kind. The three parts 5, 5a and 5b are articulated to each other by the metal hinges 9; the third part 5b intended to form the bolster or support for the upper part of the body when used as a sofa bed is however not provided with a similar filling and comprises only the mattress or bolster 6b.
As shown in Figures 1 and 2 this third part is normally attached to the middle part intended to form the seat 8 of the chair by lateral hooks 10 so as to participate in the movement of this part. The end part 5 intended to form the back of the chair, lord of the folding in the position shown in figure 1, is provided in the known manner with legs 11 serving as a support in the extended position. These feet 11 fold down laterally along the frame when using the whole chair shape.
According to the invention, in the corners of the casing, against the side uprights of the chair, two racks 12 are arranged, which can receive a rod or bar 13 normally supported in a cavity 14 of the uprights of the chair.
As shown in Figure 1, the middle part forming the seat 8 of the chair normally rests by a spout 15, with which its frame is provided, on cleats 16 carried @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
by the assembly cross member 3 and is thus held in the position shown in figure '1.
In this position, the part 5b is not found suspended by the hooks IL-) to the bracket 5a forming the seat 8 and is located at the level of the longitudinal cross members 17 of the lateral uprights 1 of the dewlap 1. do not protrude under the chair-
In this position the part 5 provided with the backrest 7 rests against the upper assembly cross member 3 of the side uprights of the carcass. This part is provided with a tongue 18 making it possible to grip the assembly to make it tilt in the direction of 1.a arrow 19. During this tilting, in order to transform the armchair into a lounge chair or bed,
the assembly pivots on the support 4 as shown in the figure and the end part 5 provided with the feet It can thus come to occupy the position shown in figure 3 in which it is supported by these feet. This part is then located. level with the middle part 5a and it suffices to unhook the hooks 10 in order to be able to fold back the extreme part 5b which has to form crosswise and act as a support for the upper part of the body.
This part 5b is then placed in the position of inclination desired by the introduction: the rod 13 in the teeth of the racks 12 @
As it is easy = to realize it, thanks to the arrangement of the racks 12 cooperating with the rod 13, it is easy to give the end part 5b any inclination at the choice of the person who uses the furniture.
From the part 5a forming the seat 8 of the armchair is suspended a strip of fabric 20 provided with: .1 'a rod 21. If you want to fold the lounge chair or bed, in the form of an armchair, it suffices, after having removed the rod 13 and have reglazed it in its housing 14, -, fold it part 5b on the bed mattress 6 part 5a forming the seat 8 and, hook it to part 5a by the hooks 10 taking on the pins 33 . one then raises the end part 5 provided with the feet 11 and one makes tilt the assembly .le manner ^ ¯ to rest

the beak 15 on the cleats '16.
The part 5 forming the backrest 7 of the chair then comes to rest naturally against the upper cross member 3 of the carcass while the fabric strip 20 is placed at the front of the chair, below the seat so as to be masked in this place the contents of the armchairs In this poisition, the rod 21 comes to rest naturally against the lower front cross member 3 joining the lateral uprights of the carcass of the armchair.
