Meuble transformable.
Dans la troisième forme d'exécution repré sentée aux fig. 8 à 10, le cadre f' du siège est relié à la partie a du sommier, sur chaque côté de celui-ci, par suie bielle coudée 29 et par une biellette 30, les points d'articulation 31, 32, 33, 34 de l'ensemble ainsi formé étant disposés aux sommets d'un quadrilatère dé- formable;
Convertible furniture. The object of the present invention is. a transformable piece of furniture which can constitute in turn a bed and a sofa, characterized in that it comprises four frames placed successively and articulated one on the other around parallel axes, the relative movements of these frames being controlled one by one the others by means of articulated links, two adjacent frames forming mant.
a folding base which is completely unfolded when the unit is in the bed position and which is folded up at right angles when the unit is in the folded position, the other two frames being, in this last position, folded over the folded base to form the backrest and the seat of the sofa, respectively.
The joints connecting the base to the frames forming the backrest and the seat in the sofa position are preferably arranged so as to leave, between these two frames on the one hand and the folded base on the other hand, sufficient space to accommodate the mattress and bedding effects.
According to one embodiment, the frame forming the seat of the sofa can be articulated on the frame forming the backrest, and is capable of being raised freely against the latter for the tilting of all of these two frames behind. the box spring.
According to another embodiment, the frame forming the seat of the sofa is articulated on one end of the bed base, the frame forming the backrest being articulated on the other end of said bed base.
The cabinet preferably comprises tilting feet, the movements of which and those of the articulated frames are. controlled each other by means of articulated links.
Some embodiments of a transformable piece of furniture according to the invention are described by way of examples with reference to the attached drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the first embodiment, in the sofa position.
Fig. 2 is a side view, the side trim of the cabinet being removed.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section mon-; pulling the seat upright against the backrest.
Fig. 4 is a similar section showing the half-deployed piece of furniture.
Fig. 5 is a vertical section showing the bed fully extended.
Fig. 6 is a schematic view of an alternative embodiment of the furniture in the sofa position.
Fig. 7 is a similar view in the bed position.
Figs. 8 to 10 show another variant of execution. In three different positions.
In the first embodiment (fig. 1 to 5), the cabinet comprises two frames c formed by parts a and b articulated one on the other in 1, and composed of angle irons to which steel bands between crosses 2 constituent. the bed base are connected by coil springs 3. On parts a and b are articulated in 4 and 5 of the amounts forming mantling feet 6 and 7 connected to each other by a lever 8 articulated in 9 on the part cc and by a rod 10.
The backrest d is constituted by a metal frame 11 inside which are held elastically steel ribbons 12 between crosses and serving as a support for springs 13 which support a flexible lining 14. The frame 11 is articulated in 15 on two supports 16 fixed to the end of part b of the cabinet, the length of these supports being approximately equal to the thickness of the part of the mattress c, housed between the base and the back sier in the sofa position.
The width of part b and the position of the joints 15 on the sides of the backrest are determined in such a way that, when the piece of furniture is in the sofa position (fig. 1, 2), the lower edge of the back sier is substantially level. the top of the mattress and its upper edge at the normal level of a sofa backrest, while in the bed position (fig. 5), the lower edge of the inverted backrest is close to the floor and its upper edge at a level which allows to tuck in the bed without difficulty.
In this embodiment, armrests e articulated at 17 are provided on the sides of the backrest, so that they can be, sometimes supported in cantilever (fig. 2), sometimes upright against the backrest for the deployment of the backrest. cabinet (fig. 3 and 4). These armrests have a length such that they come to rest on the ground when the bed is fully extended (fig. 5), so that they help to support the overturned backrest and, consequently, the extremity. adjacent to the box spring.
The seat f comprises a metal frame 18, in which interlocking steel ribbons 19 are elastically stretched, and three cushions 20 resting on these ribbons. The frame 18 is articulated at 21 on supports 22 integral with the frame 11 of the backrest and of a length such that the seat can be pressed against the lining 14 (FIG. 3).
In the example shown, the cushions 20 are removable and are removed before the seat is upright, so that it is the frame 18 and the ribbons 19 which come to rest against the backrest.
In the event that the cushions 20 are permanently fixed to the frame 1.8, it would of course be appropriate to give the supports 22 a greater width, corresponding to the total thickness of the backrest and of the seat.
When it comes to unfolding the piece of furniture, the seat is raised against the backrest, after removing the cushions which are removable (fig. 3), then tilting]. The whole of the backrest and the seat around the joints 15 (fig. 4) while driving part b in the direction of. arrow F around the joints 1, until the backrest is tilted vertically and part b horizontally lowered (fig. 5).
This deployment requires only minimal effort because the <I> d, f </I> assembly is sensibly balanced, its center of gravity being near axis 15. On the other hand, the drawdown of the assembly <I> b, c, e, </I> around axis 1, does not give rise to a sudden fall because the backrest is connected, on each side, to the corresponding tilting foot 7, by a rod 23, such that the pivoting of the backrest causes the straightening of these feet 7 as well as that of the feet 6 linked to the previous ones by the levers 8 and the rods 10. Thanks to this connection, the bed is gradually raised. as the backrest is lowered, and the result is that the center of gravity of all the moving parts remains at. a level noticeably. constant.
The opposite effects occur when folding the piece of furniture by lifting the assembly b, c, e and rotating the backrest forwards, so that the maneuver is also easy. The forces to be exerted can be reduced to the minimum necessary to overcome the friction of the joints and the resistance of the mattress to folding. It is also easy to overcome this last resistance by pressing one hand on the mattress above the joint 1 at the same time as the other hand acts on the top of the backrest in the opposite direction of the arrow. P (fig. 4).
Although a weak action exerted from top to bottom on the portion of the side angles which is located in the vicinity of the joints 1 is sufficient to initiate the folding of parts <I> a </I> and b when the cabinet is in the bed position , we can however -use the furniture thus unfolded without having to perform any locking of the two parts a and b. This results from the fact that the weight of a person lying down, or even standing on the bed above the joints 1, is transmitted by the mattress not directly to the angles of parts a and b, but to the steel bands 2 constituting the metal base.
The springs 3 of these tapes 2 (see fig. 5) are attached to the angles of parts a and b a little below the level of the joints 1, and it follows that under the effect of the actions exerted from top to bottom by the mattress, the longitudinal tapes 2 and their springs 3 pull on the end angles in the direction opposite to that in which the folding of the parts <I> a </I> and b would begin, and consequently tend to reinforce the rigidity of all parts a and b. This ribbons action \? Longitudinals successfully oppose the action favorable to the folding which is exerted on the angles by the transverse tapes 2 adjacent to the joints 1.
The transverse tapes 2 which are located near the ends of the bed act, like the longitudinal tapes, in the direction opposite to that of the folding.
The mechanism is. masked on the front and on the sides of the furniture by appropriate wise fillings 24, 25 fixed on part a (the bed base and on the sides of the backrest.
The variant shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 differs from the previous embodiment in that the front part a of the bed base is now divided into two portions <I> a ', cc "</I> connected on each side by an articulation 26, and, in furthermore, in that the seat fi is fixed to the front end a 'of the bed base. The backrest is, as above, articulated at 15 on the supports 16 integral with part b and can tilt backwards, when unfolding of the bed, as has been described On the other hand, the seat, instead of accompanying the backrest in this tilting, is upright vertically at the same time as the part a 'is folded down around the articulations 26.
In this case, when the furniture is folded into the sofa position, the mattress is angled above the joints 1, on the one hand, and 26, on the other hand, and the seat level is not so low than in the previous case. This arrangement offers the advantage of allowing a significant lengthening of the dimension of the developed bed, in the direction perpendicular to the backrest, to the point that it becomes possible for the user to lie down in this direction. The length of the sofa can, in this case, be reduced to the desired width of the bed.
This retains the advantage of being easily edged on the side of the backrest thanks to its reduced height above the ground. The same facility is ensured at the opposite end of the bed despite the presence of the seat attached to it (fig. 7). As before, the backrest in its reversed position rests on the ground by the intermediary of the armrests.
In the sofa position, the piece of furniture is preferably based on feet 27 integral with the linings (not shown) fixed to the parts <I> a '</I> and <I> a "</I> of the furniture.
The furniture is perfectly stable in the bed position without the need for any locking. This results, as for the embodiment previously described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 5, that the steel bands of the bed base are attached to the horns of the different parts <I> a ', a "</I> and <I> b </I> of this bed base a little above below the joints 1 and 26 of these parts.
In the third embodiment shown in Figs. 8 to 10, the frame f 'of the seat is connected to part a of the bed base, on each side thereof, by soot bent connecting rod 29 and by a connecting rod 30, the articulation points 31, 32, 33, 34 the assembly thus formed being arranged at the vertices of a deformable quadrilateral;
the lengths of the sides of this qua drilater are determined in such a way that, when tilting the so-called seat forward, it is first obliged to rise relative to the bed base (fig. 9) before moving back. beat vertically in front of it (fig. 10); this lifting allows it to step freely over the front edge of the mattress c even in the case where the bed base extends to the front part of the seat in the sofa position (fig. 8). It is thus possible to give the base and the mattress the greatest possible width.
In addition, this arrangement allows the seat to be folded down to the ground while raising the position of the bed base in bed position (fig. 10) and reducing the height of the seat in sofa position to the most comfortable level.
In this embodiment, the seat is connected as previously to the two parts a, b of the bed base, articulated one on the other at 1, and to the backrest d articulated on b at 15, by a device of rods and levers arranged in such a way that the different parts of the furniture move simultaneously while remaining balanced and oppose only a very low resistance to their operation. On part cc of the bed base is articulated at 9 the lever 8, one end of which is connected by a link 10 to the rocking foot 6 which pivots at 4 on part a, and which is itself connected by a link 35 to the connecting rod 29.
At the other end of the lever 8 is articulated the rocking foot 7 which is connected to the backrest d by a link 23. In the sofa position, the bed base rests on the floor by its feet 7 which are then vertical, by the feet 6 inclined and directly by projections 36 on which the connecting rods 29 are articulated.
In the developed position, the base is supported by the feet 6, 7 upright vertically and by the seat and the connecting rods 29 as shown in FIG. 10; in this position, the connecting rods 35 are at a short distance from the articulation points 31, so that under the action of the weight of the seat they hold the various parts of the articulated mechanism firmly in place and thus oppose any deflection of the bed base under the effect of the maximum loads it is exposed to above its joints 1.
Despite: this, the maneuvers for deploying and folding the cabinet are easy because the rods 35 move quickly relative to the points 31 when the seat is in the vicinity of its vertical position, and the balance of the various elements makes these movements easy as soon as the seat is raised a little above the ground.
In fig. 8 to 1.0, 24, 25 denote, as before, the linings fixed on the parts <I> a </I> of the base <I> and d </I> of the backrest and serving to hide the mechanical elements of the furniture in position sofa .
In the embodiment which has just been described with reference to FIGS. 8 to 10, the frame f 'forming the seat of the sofa is connected to the part a of the bed base and to the tilting feet 6 by the connecting rods. 29 and rods 30, 35, said rods and rods being arranged such that in the bed position, said frame is supported on the ground, in a vertical position, as shown in FIG. 10.
