La présente invention a pour objet un cana- pé transformable en lit se distinguant des meubles similaires en ce que les parties articulées qui se déplient pour former le sommier du lit sont agencées de façon à se développer dans la direction perpendi- culaire à la longueur du canapé.
Cette disposition permet de donner au som- mier et au matelas une largeur sensiblement égale à la longueur du canapé et par conséquent de réaliser

un lit très large, pouvant convenir notamment pour deux personnes.
L'invention consiste en outre dans un agencement particulier de ferrures servant à re- lier et guider les différentes parties du lit dans leurs mouvements de dépliement et de replie- ment, et tel que ces manoeuvres soient extrême- ment simples, aisées et rapides.
Une forme d'exécution d'un canapé-lit suivant cette invention est représentée au des- si ci-annexé à titre d'exemple.
La fig. 1 est une coupe verticale du meuble, faite entre le lit et l'un des montants du canapé ( celui qui se trouve à gauche d'une personne assise).
La fig. 2 est une coupe verticale sui- vant le plan médian du lit celui-ci étant dévelop- pé.

Le bâti du canapé comporte deux montants d'extrémité 1 réunis rigidement l'un à l'autre par des longerons 2 et 3, celui d'avant ayant une fai- ble hauteur pour ménager au-dessus de lui l'espace nécessaire pour le sommier.
Les longerons 2 et 3 seront de préférence assemblés aux montants de manière démontable,

4, 5, 6, reliées l'une à l'autre par des ferrures d'articulation 7 et 8 .Les ferrures 7 sont fixées rigidement aux côtes de la partie 4 et articulées sur des pivots 9 fixés à la partie 5 .D'autre part les ferrures 8 sont de simples charnières articulées en 10.
Les extrémités adjacentes des parties du sommier sont oonformées comme l'indique le dess-in de façon que les parties extrêmes 4 et 6 puissent être relevées à angle droit par rapport à la par- tie médiane 5, qui reste horizontale, le repliement se faisant autour des axes 9 et 10 parallèles à la longueur du canapés
Dans l'exemple représenté, la partie 6 du sommier porte un prolongement en équerre 11 des- tiné à constituer un panneau de pied de lit.
Ces différentes parties 4, 5, 6 et 11 sont composées de cadran rigides et de garnitures élastiques confectionnées par exemple au moyen de ressorts 12, sangles 13, toiles 14, rembourrage 15, etc... de la manière usuelle.
A l'extrémité de tête du sommier est ar- ticulé en 16 un dossier 17, également pourvu de garnitures élastiques et ayant une forme cintrée ou coudée près de son extrémité d'articulation afin de ménager entre lui et la partie 4, quand le meu- ble est replié ( fig. 1) un espace 18 dans lequel on peut loger facilement une extrémité du matelas 19 ainsi que le traversin, les oreillers et autres accessoires non représentés; cette conformation a en outre pour effet de ménager en arrière de la tête du sommier un espace a b disponible pour re-

cevoir l'extrémité dumatelas, dans la position déve- loppée, ce qui permet de réduire d'autant la longueur nécessaire du sommier.
Pour soutenir le sommier dans ses diverses positions on a prévu des ferrures disposées sur cha- que coté comme suit:
Sur chaque montant 1 est fixée une glissiè- re horizontale, constituée par exemple par un fer cornière 40 et un fer plat 41 disposés parallèlement, et dans cette glissière est guidé un galet à gorge 42 dont l'axe est fixé à la partie 4 du sommier, Au. montant 1 est articulée, en un point fixe 20, un* tige 21 articulée d'autre part en 22 sur la partie 4 du sommier. Sur la partie 5 pivote en 23 un levier 24 dont une extrémité est reliée par une biellette 25 à un pivot 26 solidaire de la partie 4 et dont l'extrémité opposée est reliée par une biellette 27 à un pivot 28 solidaire de la par- tie 6.
Sur la partie 5, pivote en 29, un pied 30 dont l'extrémité inférieure est destinée à s'appuyer sur le sol et dont l'extrémité supérieure est reliée par une biellette 31 au pivot 28 ou à un autre point approprié de la partie 6 * Enfin, une tige 32 est articulée en 33 sur le dossier à l'une de ses extrémités, et son extrémité opposée est guidée le long d'une glissière 34 fixée à la partie 4.
Le fonctionnement est le suivant:

fixe 40, 41, l'avant de la partie 5 repose sur le longeron 2, la panneau de pied 11 est rabattu hori- zontalement au-dessus de cette partie 5, et le mate- las 19 est replié dans l'espace intermédiaire dont la hauteur est déterminée par la longueur de la par- tie 6. Le dossier 17 est soutenu sur chaque o8té par le pivot 16 et par la tige 32 qui bute contre une extrémité de la glissière 34.
Le basculement du dossier vers l'arrière est empêcher par la tige 21. Le meuble peut alors être utilisé comme un canapé ordinaire, le pan- neau 11 servant de siège. Ce panneau, facultatif, peut être remplacé par un coussin amovible 35, pou- vant au besoin servir d'oreiller pour la nuit.
Quand il s'agit de transformer le meuble en lit, il suffit de retirer le coussin et de ti- rer le sommier vers l'avant. Si l'on se reporte à la fig. 3, on voit que la partie 4 tirée horizonta- lement par le bas s'incline en restant reliée au pivot 20 par la tige 21, le pivot 22 décrivant un arc de cercle. Par suite de l'ouverture de l'angle formé par les parties 4 et 5, la biellette 25 repous- se vers l'avant le haut'du levier 24, de sorte que celui-ci se redresse et par l'intermédiaire de la biellette 27, oblige la partie 6 de se rabattre en avant autour de l'articulation 10; par suite de ce rabattement de panneau 11 est redressé et le pied 30, tiré par la tige 31 , se rapproche de la position verticale.

déploiement, les parties 4 et 6 se trouvent en alignement horizontal avec la partie 5, la tige 21 devenue verticale soutient la partie 4 et le pied 30, reposant sur le sol, soutient la par- tie 5; la région médiane du sommier reste tou- jours solidement soutenue par les glissières fi- xea 40, 41.
Le déploiement est arrête automatique- ment, soit par des butées limitant l'oscillation des leviers ou la course des biellettes etc..., soit par des liens souples 36 reliant les parties 5 et 6 comme indiqué sur les fig. 3 et 4 .
Le dossier 17 est enfin relevé à la main, autour de ses pivots 16, et son redressement est ar- rêté quand la tige 32 bute contre l'extrémité de la glissière 34 comme le montre la fig.4.
Le matelas 19: déployé, repose sur le sommier ainsi développé, sa tête s'appuyant sur le bas du dossier ( fig.2) et son pied s'appuyant sur la partie 6 et sur une toile 37 qui recouvre l'intervalle restant entre les parties 5 et 6, gour éviter que les pieds 30 ne frottent sur le sol dans leurs mouvements d'oscillation on peut prévoir des guides 38 convenablement cintrés, fixée au longeron 2 et s'étendant vers l'arrière au-dessous du meuble. Les pieds, dont les extré- mités peuvent être munies de roulettes 39, se dé- placent au-dessus, des guides 38 et ne risquent pas de détériorer la parquet ou les tapis.

Le montage et le démontage du lit-canapé ainsi agencé sont donc extrêmement simples et rapides.
Il est à remarquer que le mode de re- pliement décrit permet d'utiliser au mieux la hauteur qu'on doit donner normalement aux siégea, pour loger le sommier, les deux épaisseurs du ma- telas replié et l'épaisseur du panneau 11 ou du coussin 35, et permet même d'employer un sommier garni de ressorts et non pas d'une simple toile métallique qui aurait une épaisseur bien moindre
