<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Dans lehit montré dans la figure 1 se trouve un sommier 29 s'étendant sur toute la face supérieure du support de lit sur toute sa longueur et tendu latéralement au moyen de ressorts hélicoïdaux,, ses rebords étant fixés aux extrémités du support de lit aux traverses 12 et 13, Oe sommier constituant le support de lite'est fixé à la partie supérieure des supports latéraux des diverses;
parties.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The present invention relates to a combined furniture device serving as a sofa and a bed, with a bed support which can be folded down. Such furniture has already been proposed, in which the bed support is formed of several parts articulated together, in particular a head part, a part forming a seat, an intermediate part which can turn and placed in the frame of the cabinet, and a part of foot.
The invention relates to such a piece of furniture, considerably simplified and of a construction allowing easier actuation, which in the closed position of -divan- presents the appearance of an armchair or a chair. upholstered cushion sofa

by a simple handshake, thus offering in the ulitu position the same comfort as a good bed and can be folded down in the pouitlond9, arr with the mattress and bedding placed on the bed support, *
The invention is mainly characterized in that the 3 side supports of the head part are provided with guide rollers at equal distance from the ends these rollers sliding when opening the bed support, on fixed guide rails constructed and arranged .: such that the free end of the head part is tilted first upwards and over the fixed supports arranged at the rear part of the cabinet, and finally downwards on them.,
Embodiments of the invention are shown schematically in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. This shows in section, perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bed support, the free end of the foot part with the feet retracted and with the foot support board hinged to it.
Fig. 7 shows in perspective a sofa according to the invention with the backrest removed.
Fig. 8 is a vertical median section and FIG. 9 a plan view of a cabinet with two bed supports placed one beside the other; for clarity, only the frame of the cabinet and the bed support have been shown in these figures, and
Fig.10 shows a detail on a larger scale of the fixing device for the opposite side sides of two bed supports mounted in the same cabinet.
In the drawings, in which the same parts are designated by the same reference numerals, 1 designates the fixed rear wall of the cabinet and 2 the side walls which are rigidly fixed thereto and serving as arm supports for the person sitting in the armchair * The intermediate part 3 of the bed support is fixed by means of the ears 4 and pins 5 in the fixed side parts 3 of the furniture near its front edge.
The lateral supports of the intermediate part are connected at their ends in a hinged manner to the lateral supports of the neighboring parts, by means of the hinges fixed to the upper part (in the position shown in figure 1), in particular near position 5 with the part 8 and at the opposite end with the head part 7. This head part is provided, between its end turned towards the intermediate part 3 and the free end at a certain distance from the latter, with guide rollers 8 fixed to the outer side of the side supports, and sliding on the guide rails 9 fixed on the side walls 2 of the cabinet.
The part 8 provided with fixed support feet 10 at its end remote from the intermediate part 3, is connected in an articulated manner at the same end with the foot 11 by means of the hinge fixed to the lower part of the side supports. Transverse reinforcement between the side supports is achieved both at the head end and at the foot end of the bed support by means of the side supports 12 and 13 fixed to the surface of the side supports.
In addition, the crossbars which keep the side supports µlight-friendly apart from each other are fixed below the surface of the open bed support * Thus; the side supports are connected together to the articulation between part 3 and part 'by a cross member 14,, mounted on the intermediate pieces 16 fixed to the side supports. The intermediate pieces are further constructed so that they protrude outside the side supports against which the side supports of the head part abut when the bed support is opened.
At the point of articulation between the intermediate part 3 and the part 6, the lateral supports of the latter part are joined together by an iron bracket 18, the ends 17 of which curved into 8 are fixed to the lateral supports so that the The cross section of the stirrup is some distance beyond the ends of the side supports and some distance below the surface of the open bed support. The feet 10 fixed to the other end of part e are connected to each other at a certain distance from the side supports by a transverse part 18.
The articulation between the seat 6 and the intermediate part 3 is provided with a friction braking device, shown more closely in Figures 3 and 4. This device consists of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
flat iron 20 fixed in each side support of one of the parts, 6 for example, preferably on the outer side by means of a screw 19, this flat iron being provided at the other end with a notch 21 through which passes a bolt 22 fixed to the neighboring side supports of the other part, 8 for example.
Between a nut 28 screwed onto the screw and a disc 24 fixed against the flat iron, there is a spring disc or coil spring 25 which presses the flat iron against an intermediate disc 26 placed between it and the lateral support. hinge connecting together the side supports, and whose rotating pin 28 forms a triangle with the axes of the screw 19, and of the bolt 22 in the projection shown in figure 3, so that the distance between these axes increases during the tilting of the parts 3 and 6 against each other around the hinge axis 28 and the line of connection between them approaches the axis of the hinge.
In the bed shown in figure 1 there is a box spring 29 extending over the entire upper face of the bed support over its entire length and stretched laterally by means of coil springs, its edges being attached to the ends of the bed support to the cross members. 12 and 13, Oe bed constituting the bed support fixed to the upper part of the lateral supports of the various;
parts. On the opposite side of the side supports of the seat 8, that is to say on the lower side in the open position, which is at the top in the position shown in figure 2, there is fixed another elastic base 30, which serves as a support for a cushion or mattress forming the / seat of the furniture The seat, see figure 2, optionally consists of a spring frame 31 placed on the bed base 30 and the side supports of the part forming the seat, covered with a mattress 32, extended forward and to which the front edge of the cross member of the stirrup 16 is attached, forming a seat.
Figure 5 shows more closely how the mattress 31 and the stirrup, 17 are arranged in relation to the side supports of the part 6, To the front edge of the seat is fixed a cover 33, which extends downwards and is fixed to the lower part of the cross member 14 which in the folded position is trcuve close to the ground. The canvas 33 is suitably stretched at the corners of the stirrup 1c and at the ends of the crossmember 14 and at the side surfaces of the seat a or of the intermediate part 3.
The transverse support 13 of the foot is provided with a handle 34 on the side, directed forward in the folded position, this handle serving to pull and open the bed support in the position shown in figure 1. The cross member 13 is further provided, as shown more closely in Figure 6, with legs 35 hinged to this support and capable of collapsing to support the legs in the open position.
These legs 85 are placed near the side supports on the surface thereof and parallel to the axes 36 and in this way can be folded down against the middle of the bed support - In addition, at their support ends they are (connected between them by a strap 37 which is led on the posterior side of the cross member, behind the openings 38 which take the feet folded and through the extended ends towards the front part of the cross member, where the middle part of the strap forms a handle 84 serving to open the bed support and to effect the simultaneous automatic tilting of the feet into the support position, in which position the feet are retained by support blocks 38 'fixed to the side supports.
To stretch a mattress 40 and possibly the bedding, placed
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
on the bed support and shown in dotted lines in Figures 1 and 2, there is provided at the free end of the foot 11 a foot support board 41 (fig.l), placed through the arms 42 curved at an angle in the supports 43 formed in the foot portion.
When tilting the board 41 into the position shown in Figures 2 and 6, the stirrup formed by the board 41 and the arms 42 is pulled over the lower end of the mattress, so that the board 41 is caused to lie flat against the upper side of the mattress. When, during the folding of the bed in the position shown in figure 2, there is a tendency for the mattress to move against the head end, the friction between the mattress and the board tends to tilt the latter even more against the upper part. , which produces an increase in the adhesion of the mattress against the bed support.
In the folded position of the furniture, the leg 11 and the legs 10 fixed to part 6 are covered with a cushion 44 forming the back of the sofa and shown in dotted lines in figure 2.
To open the bed support from the -divan position. shown in figure 2, in the "bed" position shown in figure 1, after removing the backrest 44, the intermediate part 84 of the strap is grasped as shown in figure 7.
By pulling on this strap the feet 36 are first tilted into the position shown in figure 6 in dotted lines, and then the part 11 with part 6 is swung around the hinge connecting part 6 with part 3. As the connection line between the fulcrum points for the flat irons 20 of the braking device is in the 'couch' position, near the hinge axis between the two neighboring parts, the braking device does not offer at the beginning that very little resistance against this rocking movement * When the parts 6 and it are tilted far enough so that the seat is in the extension of the intermediate part 3 ,. this intermediate part 3 will take part in the movement when the tilting continues, which will now take place around the axes of the journals 5.
When tilting inwards and upwards of the intermediate part 8, the head part 7 swings against the rear wall 1 and as a result of the simultaneous action of the guide rollers 8 and the guide rails 9, it is also tilted upwards so that the free end of the head part moves first upwards, then inwards over the nozzles 46 attached to the rear wall 1 and then downwards over them . During the last part of the rocking movement, the foot part is also tilted relative to the part 8, so that the various parts finally come in continuation of one another in a horizontal surface.
Finally, the board 41 is tilted perpendicular to the bed support. In this position of the bed (fig.l) the rollers 8 are located on the upper ends of the guide rails and form an additional support for the head part at a certain distance from the end which rests on the supports 45, so that the front end of the head part cannot be lowered by pressure from above. During the rocking movement, the web 33 stretched between the front flange and the cross member 14 is folded inwards. and is placed in part in the space formed between the bracket 16 and the underside of the intermediate part 3. In the "bed" position, the bed base 29 can spring freely downward over its entire extent under the weight of the person lying there.
When the lowering of the base in the seat part is greater than
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the distance between the base 29 and 30, this last also acts to elastically dampen the pressure.
To tilt the bed support back to the "sofa position (fig.2), the board 41 is tilted onto the mat, and it again grips the handle 34 which is on the underside of the support 13. ; then the foot part and with it the seat part e are lifted and together with part 3 are tilted around the journals 5. To prevent part 3 from following this movement, the braking device is provided which at the start of the movement offers the greatest resistance against the folding of parts 6 and 8. The intermediate part 3 and the head part '!! thus always take part in the rocking movement from the start, and the head part slides against the bottom of the cabinet by sliding the rollers 8 on the rails 9.
When the intermediate part 8 and the head part 7 have again reached the position -divan- the parts e and 11 are tilted above in the head part 7 with simultaneous tilting into the "couch" position shown in the figure. figure 2. As a result of the use of a box spring as a support for the cushion, a low support elasticity is obtained with a very low height so that even with a deep support surface, sufficient space is obtained. away from the sofa for the mattress and bedding placed on the bed support
In figures 8 to 10 an embodiment has been shown with two furniture supports which can be folded down independently of each other, in the same piece of furniture * For clarity only the frame of the cabinet has been shown. cabinet and bed support, and in figure 9.
one of the parts is shown in the "sofa" position and the other (bottom) in the @ beds position * The intermediate parts 8 in the / two bed supports placed next to each other in the same cabinet are arranged thanks to the nozzles 5 or ears 4 which are fixed to them) partly in the side walls 2 of the cabinet, partly in an easel 46 disposed between the bed supports, and consisting of two horizontal flat bars 47,48 placed in the field , fixed the posterior part of the cabinet, and in addition united between them and a foot 49 placed on the ground, by a vertical flat iron 50.
The journals 51 on the opposite sides of the intermediate parts 3 are fixed to the front ends projecting from the upper horizontal rails 47 These journals have the same axis as the places of attachment in the side walls 2 of the cabinet. In order to prevent the ears 4 from coming loose from the journals 51, these are provided with threads and nuts 52, as can be seen in / figure 10.
