Folding armchair The present invention relates to a folding armchair, of the so-called relaxation type, characterized in that its feet are constituted by two U-shaped parts, the side branches of which are directed upwards and are arched and articulated between them by their respective ends so that they can be bent towards each other,
in that two U-shaped frames, respectively forming the backrest and a footrest, are articulated by the ends of their side branches, the first on the lower half of the side branches of the hind legs and the second on the upper ends of the legs lateral branches of the front feet,
and in that the upper ends of the footrest extend beyond their points of articulation and are connected to the uprights of the backrest by two lateral levers forming armrests, whose points of articulation with said uprights determine, with the joints. previous ones on each side of the chair,
a deformable quadrilateral making it possible to obtain different positions of use of the chair.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, some embodiments of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows, seen from the side and according to a first embodiment, a folding chair in the actual chair position.
Fig. 2 is a right view.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the chair in the half-relaxation position.
Fig. 4 is a similar view in a relaxed position. .
Fig. 5 shows the so-called sunbathing position.
Fig. 6 shows the chair being folded. Fig. 7 represents the folded chair. Fig. 8 is a partial perspective view on a larger scale showing the locking rack of the lateral quadrilaterals.
Figs. 9 and 10 are two detail views in perspective and on a large scale, respectively showing the articulation of an armrest on the end of the front legs and that of the ends of the two parts making up the legs.
Fig. 11 shows, seen from the side and according to a second embodiment, a chair in the chair position proper.
Fig. 12 shows a similar view of this second chair, in a super-relaxation position.
Fig. 13 is a view of a -variante similar to the chair of FIG. 11, but in which the locations of the joints of the front feet and the footrest have been changed.
Referring to the drawings and according to the first embodiment, the carcass of the folding chair, established using metal tubes suitably arched and articulated between them, consists, among others, of rear and front legs 1 and 2, in U shape,
the side branches of which are directed upwards and are arched and articulated between them at 3 by their respective ends, the central branches 1 'and 2' of said feet normally resting on: the ground by means of shock-absorbing rings 4.
A U-shaped frame 5, the ends of the lateral branches of which are placed between those of the rear legs 1 and are articulated therein at 6, constitutes the back of the chair while another frame 7, similar but smaller,
is articulated in 8 between the upper ends of the branches of the front legs 2 in order to produce a footrest.
The ends of the side branches of this frame 7 (fig. 9) extend at 7 'beyond their points of articulation 8 and are shaped and offset at 9 to be connected to the uprights of the backrest 5 by the through side levers 10 y articulated respectively at 11 and 12
and normally constituting the armrests of the chair.
The points of articulation 6-8 and 11-12 of the various elements of the frame of the chair determine, for each side thereof, an articulated quadrilateral whose deformation, which is adjustable, causes the backrest 5 to pivot towards the rear and the lifting of the footrest 7 to give the position of half relaxation or relaxation.
A strut 13, with notches 14, articulated at 12 on one of the uprights of the backrest 5 makes it possible to limit the crushing of the lateral quadrilaterals by hooking, depending on the chosen notch, on a finger 15 carried by the feet back 1 of the chair.
This strut, which can be operated by the user, gives by its lower notch the normal position of the chair (fig. 1) and by its upper notch the half-relaxation position (fig. 3).
When the strut is rendered inoperative (fig. 4), the relaxation position is obtained; this position is determined by the ends of the braces 10 which abut against the lateral branches of the rear legs 1,]. The articulated assembly forming, at this time,
a substantially triangulated system.
Due to the articulation 3 of the two U-shaped parts 1 and 2 forming the legs of the chair, that 2 can bend under the chair, which allows the so-called sunbathing position 5> (low position, user's legs slightly tilted down).
In the latter case, the strut 13 being rendered inoperative, the front part 2 is folded backwards (fig. 5) and, in this movement,
the pivoting of said part on its axis 8 causes a shortening of the front sides of the quadrilateral having the effect of tilting the backrest 5 backwards. Simultaneously,
the front part of the footrest which is in contact with the ground pivots 8 under the weight of the user until the front ends of the armrests abut against the side branches of part 1, said armrests determining, with the sides of neighboring elements,
a substantially triangulated system as in the relaxation position.
In addition, keeping this position, if the footrest is also rotated backwards, the chair can be completely folded for its storage or possible transport (fig. 6 and 7).
It should be noted that to further reduce the bulk of the folded chair, the upper part of the backrest is articulated at 16 by appropriate hinges in order to be able to fold up against the uprights 5.
Finally, the user's support surface is made up of a strong canvas T, of textile fibers, plastic or other material, stretched elastically between the uprights of the backrest 5, the upper part of the side branches of the rear legs and those of the footrest.
In the second embodiment, the lower and posterior end of part 1, extending beyond the articulation 6 of the uprights of the backrest 5, is shorter than that provided in the first embodiment and it is combined with a small armature 17, U-shaped, articulated by its lateral branches to said articulation 6 to form, by its central part, a second pair of posterior legs and to allow, when folded under the seat of the chair ,
to obtain an additional position in which the backrest 5 tilts even more rearward than in the so-called relaxation position (fig. 12).
This movable frame 17 normally rests on the ground by its central part in all the other positions, its inclination being determined and limited by the meeting of its lateral branches with the central part of the frame 1, under which it rests (hg . 11).
According to a variant (FIG. 13), the lateral branches of the front legs 2 are articulated at 3 'in yokes 18 offset downwards and welded to the upper ends of the lateral branches of part 1.
Due to this arrangement, the ends 2 'of the side branches of the front legs 2, which extend upwards, abut against those of part 1, forming a seat, in position. In addition, the branches of the footrest 7, articulated in 8 'at the ends of the front legs 2,
extend beyond their points of articulation by a shorter length than that provided for in the first embodiment, so that they determine, when they are connected to the back uprights by the armrests 10, like before,
a reduction of the anterior short sides of the lateral quadrilateral having the effect of improving the balance of the articulated assembly.
Finally, it should be noted that: to limit the deformation of the articulated assembly in the position shown in FIG. 12, the rear ends of the braces 10 are extended beyond their articulation points 12 by a part 19 intended to come to rest on the ground.
