Method of forming a to bend from a section of tube and installation for the implementation of this process. The present invention relates to a process for forming a elbow to from a section of tube and an installation for implementing this process.
The method forming the subject of the present invention is characterized in that, placing said section in a die having a passage in the form of an elbow, comprising a curved part, in that there is placed in said die an organ having a convex surface portion, so to delimit, in said matrix, a constricted space extending to the periphery of said passage in the bent portion of the latter, in that the section to is partially forced through the die, and in that said member to is then withdrawn through the part of the section. of tube which has been forced beyond said constricted space, so as to shape this part of the section of tube.
The installation for carrying out this process is -characterized in that it comprises a die to through which extends an elongated passage comprising two rectilinear end parts angularly offset. one by -report to the other and a curved intermediate part connecting one to the other, called end parts, a susceptible diver - wheat to move in the extreme parts and presenting an extreme part of reduced size,
arranged f as to being able to fit into a tubular element itself adjusted in said passage and a shoulder capable of engaging the end of said element, a mandrel likely to move, in the other end part of the passage.
and provided with a head arranged so to can be housed inside inside the curved intermediate part of said passage, so to define an annular space in this passage, means for moving said plunger, means for supporting said mandrel so that its head is disposed in the curved intermediate part of the passage, and means for removing this mandrk of the p, aseage to through a part of the tubular member after the plunger has been moved through the passage and the tubular member has been forced by the plunger into the intermediate part curved passage,
to tra towards said annular space and in the rectilinear end of the passage housing the mandrel.
The appended drawing represents, to by way of example, an embodiment of the installation - and illustrates the method which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevation view of said embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view, to on a smaller scale, along line 2-2 in FIG. 1. Fig. 3 is a side view of a section of tube intended to form a bend, and FIG. 4 is a side view of said section, after it has been shaped into an elbow shape. The installation shown comprises a frame 10 of a hydraulic press, this frame por so im soicle. 12 on which is disposed a die body 14.
The die body 14 comprises two separable parts 14a and 14b each having a recess 16 including a vertical -cylindrical part 18, a cylindrical part, -horizontal 20, and a curved intermediate part 22 which connects one to the other the rectilinear parts 18 and 20 # The two halves of the die are assembled together < B> to the other so that the recesses 16 face each other and form a passage extending to through the matrix and having a circular cross section uni form,
this passage being open at its two ends ## mites, at the top and on the side of the matrix, as shown.
A punch or plunger 24 is arranged so to be able to cooperate with the die body 14. This plunger comprises a cylindrical part 26 shaped so to </ B> be able to fit tightly to the inside of the cylindrical part 18 of the die passage. A its lower end # are , the, plunger 24 has a reduced section, as indicated in 28, and it is provided with a circular shoulder 30 disposed perpendicularly to </ B > its axis. The lower end of the plunger has a protruding portion 32 and, at 34, a concave spherical surface formed for a purpose which will be indicated later.
The installation also comprises a man drin 36 comprising a head 38 of spherical shape and a portion 40 of reduced diameter and forming a neck. This mandrel is arranged in such a way to to be able to cooperate with the die 14 and with the plunger 24. The embodiment shown is very simplified. The man drin 36 is supported in the position shown in solid lines by a pin 42 which extends to through a transverse hole of this mandrel and to through openings formed in side plates 44 connected one to the other by a top plate 46.
A transverse plate 48 is arranged so as to bear against the edges of the two side plates 44 and to be able to slide vertically along these edges. .
This plate 48 has a hole 50 intended to receive a threaded end 52 of the mandrel 36. The body of , die 14 also comprises a plate 54 connected to the lower end of each of the side plates 44 and bolted to the frame 10 by means of -de, bolts 56. A yoke-shaped member 5.7 with ears 58 is bolted to the base 12 by means of bolts 60 < / B> and cooperates with the sides of the plates 44, so to complete the assembly of the mandrel support device on the frame 10 of the hydraulic press. Pins 61 extend between the plates 44 and support the mandrel 36 when the pin 42 has been removed.
A 6ero-u 62 having a spherical surface 64 by which it rests against a correspondingly spherical surface provided at the outer end of the hole 50 of the plate 48 is screwed onto the threaded part 52 of the mandrel. It will be noted, from the above, that the mandrel 36 is mounted in such a way to to be able to swing around the axis of the spindle, 42, when this spindle is inserted in the holes provided to this effect and in the. plates 44 and in the mandrel to retain the latter in the position shown in solid lines.
A stop screw 66 is screwed into a tapped hole in plate 46 and allows the exact position of the mandrel head 38 to be adjusted. By adjusting this -screw, said head can be disposed so to leave the desired clearance between it and the interior surfaces of the die face.
In practice, the spherical part of the ball-shaped head 38 of the mandrel is of such dimension with respect to to the circular cross section of the passage of the die that it leaves there is an annular space between this head and the walls of the step wise of the matrix, in the curved part of this passage. This annular space has in radius a transverse dimension equal to to the nominal wall thickness of the tubular éba-LiQlle to be shaped, plus the necessary clearance which, in the case of thin panels, can be about 0.05 to 0J mm.
In a zone S intermediate between the head 38 and the neck 40 of the mandrel, the surface of the latter is curved and concave, as well as it can be seen at in fig. 2, so to can serve as a guide surface for the part of the tube housed on the internal side of the elbow.
To make use of the installation, tubular blanks such as that shown to in fig. 3 and designated by 70. This blank has 72 and 74 tailed ends in, bevel and dimensioned so to </ B> provide the material necessary to keep to the wall of the completed elbow substantially the same thickness as that of the wall of the blank. The longer side of the blank obviously matches the outer radius of the bend and provides excess material necessary to prevent excessive thinning of the relevant portion of the bend wall.
The concave spherical surface 34 of the plunger tip is shaped so as to be able to receive and partially surround the ball-shaped head 38 of the mandrel and the end portion. projection 32 -this plunger is tinée to extend the annular space 78 intermediate between the part of reduced dimension 28 of the plunger and the adjacent surface of the passage of the die, up to the vicinity of the area designated by the letter D, the whole of f a little < B> to ensure maximum guiding action of the material of the tube while the latter is pressed through the curved intermediate part of the die passage.
In practice, said protruding part 32 of the plunger may extend very close to the area indicated by the letter D.
In operation, the mandrel 36 is placed in the position indicated. in solid line and it is maintained in this position by means of the pin 42 which is inserted through through the transverse hole of the mandrel and the holes made in the plates 44 in look from that hole.
The exact positioning of the mandrel head 38 is effected by adjusting the position of the stop screw 66. As said, the frame 10 is formed by the support or frame of a hydraulic press, and the plunger or punch 24 is connected to the head of this press, so to < / B> be able to be actuated hydraulically and to be able to press the tubular element 70 to from the position indicated in dotted lines to in fig , 2 up to the position indicated in solid line to this same figure.
It will be noted that the movement of the plunger 24 forces an end part of the tubular element through the curved intermediate part of the passage of the die and through the annular space delimited by the head in the form of a ball. 38 and by the adjacent surfaces of the passage of the matrix. The part of the tubukire blank which is thus drilled to through the annular passage is somewhat deformed and takes a shape similar to that shown to </ B > fig. 2. To complete the bend, remove the pin 42 and move the man- -dri, n 36 to the right with using appropriate means.
In the, simplified embodiment shown, this mandrel can be moved by rotating the nut 62, so to de- place the head 38 towards the outside of the partially formed elbow, at through the deformed end of that elbow. Then we separate. the two halves 14a and 14b of the die body from each other and the shaped elbow is extracted therefrom. This elbow then has the shape shown in 80 to FIG. 4 and, to complete it., It is only necessary to raise its irregular end 82.
It will be noted that the upper part of the tubular element 70 is enclosed in the space left free between the part of reduced size 28 of the plunger and the adjacent surface of the passage. of the matrix. Therefore, the wall thickness of the tubular element at its upper end cannot increase significantly during the forging operation.
In addition, the elbow is formed without serious thinning of its wall on the outer side of its curved part, this thanks to the excess material existing due to the greater length of the 76 'side. the tu bular element.
The intermediate guide surface S between the head 38 and the neck of reduced diameter 40 of the mandrel is used to and to guide the part of the elbow located on the inner side of it so to give it the shape shown in in fig. 2; by -retimnt the head of the mandrel out of this part of the bend, this surface is more shaped, giving it the small radius of curvature visible in fig. 2 and 4.
The result of the operation is to form the outer part of the elbow by a compressive force, by forcing the tubular blank between the menaoeal recess in the matrix and the head 38. This way of doing things tends to thicken the wall of the elbow where it would normally be amazed. Simultaneously, the internal part of the f small radius of curvature of the elbow is substantially shaped by a tensile force exerted by withdrawing the mandrel from the elbow.
It can be seen, however, that the method and the installation described above # allow obtaining small bends, radius and having minimum differences in wall thickness with respect to to the wall thickness of the pipe sections used to form these elbows.
It is obvious that the implementation of the method described above is very simplified for the sake of clarity and that in practice, one can use automatic means serving to put in place the mandrel and to move it, in order to speed up production. However, the principles of operation are well illustrated by the simplified installation described above and the modifications necessary to make the operation of this installation fully automatic are within within the reach of the skilled person. job.
. Although the method, method and installation described and shown are intended for forming to elbows from cylindrical pipe sections, it will be appreciated that the method is applicable to the shaping of other tubular sections, for example section tube sections, & oite. carrWou. oval, the installation being modified accordingly.
