Method for bending a tube and device for implementing this method The present invention relates to a process for bending a tube by means of a punch acting on a portion of straight tube and pushing it back into a conforming die located opposite the punch, while a temperature difference exists between the region of the tube which will become the internal region of the hanger and the region of the tube which will come from the external region, the latter being colder than the first.
The invention also comprises a device for implementing this method. In the bending of straight tubes, it has already been proposed to bring certain regions of the tube, in particular the region of the tube which will come from the internal region of the hanger, to a temperature higher than that of the rest of the tube. In the case of tubes of fairly large diameter and thickness, this heating may require a certain time, as well as the positioning of the tube in the bending apparatus, and it follows that, either by conductivity , or by radiation, the heat spreads over the entire surface of the tube and does not remain limited as it should to a specific region.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the region of the tube which will become the external region is cooled, by the interior of the tube, during the bending operation. For this purpose, a spongy filling material, such as sand for example, can be placed inside the tube, and a semi-flexible and perforated pipe is introduced inside the mass of sand to inject a means of cooling, for example water, in the portion of the sand on the side of the region of the tube which is to remain cooler.
It is also possible to introduce into the tube a preferably flexible sheet, which forms a transverse partition, and which separates the portion of sand in contact with the region which is to be heated, from the sand which is in contact with the region which should stay cooler and that is moistened. As a result, during heating, heat is no longer transmitted either by conductivity or by radiation to the region of the tube which must remain at a lower temperature. When the tube thus prepared is then subjected to the bending operation, the results obtained are satisfactory as regards the quality of the final bend, and lead in particular to an increase in the internal passage section of the tube throughout the bent region. .
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device which the invention comprises. Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view of the tube to be bent.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the bending device.
To bend, for example, a portion of tube a, we start by filling this tube with sand b, possibly held by plugs <I> cl c '</I> at the ends (fig. 2).
The region <I> AB </I> of the tube <I> a </I> which will come from the internal region of the hanger is brought to a temperature higher than that of the CD region, corresponding to the outer region of the hanger. .
We therefore have, inside the sand b in the vicinity of the lower generatrix of the tube, a preferably semi-flexible pipe d pierced with holes and traversed by pressurized cooling water, so as to humidify the sand b which is in the vicinity of the <I> CD region. </I> The holes of the pipe <I> d </I> are preferably directed towards the wall of the pipe a which must remain cooler.
To complete the action of the device, it is still possible to insert into the tube a, as seen in fig. 1, a preferably flexible sheet in order to separate the sand in contact with the <I> CD region, </I> from the sand in contact with the <I> AB region. </I>
In this way, when the tube is heated in the <I> AB region, </I> the temperature of the CD region protected by the damp sand against the action of heat remains lower than that of the <I region > AB. </I>
The tube a is then bent as recalled in FIG. 2, by stamping in a die h whose bottom f is curved, in the shape that one wishes to give to the hanger. The tube a rests at the start of the operation on the two edges of the die h, and a punch g bears on the middle part of the tube a so as to exert in the direction of the arrow F a pressure which has the effect of to bring the tube into contact with the bottom f in the position shown in phantom lines, which corresponds to a first angular bending. The operation is then repeated on each of the rectilinear portions of the tube so that, finally, the tube a is bent along the bottom f of the matrix h.
One then withdraws at the same time as the sand, the pipe d and the sheet e in the state in which it is after these operations.
We could replace the punch g -a punch extending over the entire length of the tube a and shaped according to the internal region of the hanger that is to be obtained.
Modifications of detail can be made to the embodiment of this invention without departing from its scope.
