Process for the preparation of a yellow monoazo dye. The present invention relates to the production of new monoazo dyes which dye wool and wool-like textile fibers from neutral to weakly acidic dyebaths in yellow shades that are very wet and lightfast.
An important refining process for wool is making this valuable textile fiber shrink-proof. In addition to newer procedures, this purpose is still technically most easily achieved by chlorinating the wool. Although chlorinated wool is shrink-proof, it has the major disadvantage that it can only be dyed very selectively and flaky with many acidic wool dyes, in particular with the wool dyes which are obtained from weakly acidic dye baths and deliver wet-fast dyes uneven, empty wool dyeings arise.
It is therefore more advantageous to subject the pre-dyed wool to the chlorination process, but this requires wool dyes whose colorations can withstand chlorination. For this reason, chlorine-resistant dyes are very much sought after. The new dyes according to the invention not only give very light- and wet-fast wool dyes with good drawability from neutral to weakly acidic baths, but these are characterized by better chlorine resistance than comparable, known dyes from.
Another subject of the invention be a new production method for the dyes according to the invention, which proceeds with excellent yields.
It has been found that new, valuable yellow monoazo dyes are obtained if diazotized 2-aminobenzene-1-carboxylic acids or their esters with fatty alcohols of 8 to 12 carbon atoms with 1-aryl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolones of the benzene Coupling and naphthalene series and selecting the components so that a sulfonic acid group is present in the monoazo dye, either in the diazo or in the coupling component,
Before that, the free carbohyl group in the dye assembly is optionally converted into the carboxylic acid halide group and this is converted into the corresponding carboxylic acid ester by reaction with fatty alcohols of 8 to 12 carbon atoms.
This creates monoazo dyes of the general formula
EMI0001.0041
wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of 8 to 12 carbon atoms and A is a radical of the benzene and naphthalene series.
: Diazo components which can be used according to the invention are obtained from the o-nitrobenzoyl halides, for example o-nitrobenzoyl chloride, by acting on fatty alcohols with 8 to 12 carbon atoms and reducing the o-nitro- to the corresponding o-aminobenzoic acid esters. The diazotization takes place in accordance with the usual methods in mineral acid agents
Sodium nitrite in the cold. The coupling with the azo components which can be used according to the invention can take place in a neutral to weakly alkaline medium, but advantageously in a weakly acidic agent, for example acetic acidic agent.
Suitable coupling components are, for example, the 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-3'- and -4'-sulfonsätire, the 1- (2 'chlorophenyl) -3-methyl - 5 - pyrazolon-5'- sulfonic acid, 1- (2 ', 5'-dichlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-4'-sulfonic acid, 1- (4'-methylphenyl) -3-methyl-5- pyrazolone-2'-sulfonic acid, 1- (2'-methyl-4'-chlorophenyl)
- 3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-5'-sulfonic acid, 1- (3 ', 4'-dichlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-6'-sulfonic acid, 1- (naphthyl- 2 ') -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-6'-sulphonic acid. The dyes according to the invention prepared from 1 .- (chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-silicic acids are particularly valuable because of their pure, greenish yellow hue.
It has also been found - and this finding forms a further part of the present invention - that the dyes according to the invention can also be produced from technically particularly easily accessible starting materials in very good yield and excellent purity if dry monoazo dyes are used in the form their free acids, which are derived from diazotized 2-aminobenzoic acid or their sulfonic acids, for example 4- or 5-sulfonic acid,
have been prepared by coupling 1-aryl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolones of the benzene and naphthalene series, treated with excess thionyl chloride at a moderately elevated temperature, whereby only the carbogyl group is converted into the acid chloride group.
If, after removing the excess thionyl chloride, expediently in an inert organic solution or suspension, for example in benzene, toluene or chlorobenzene, fatty alcohols with 8 to 12 carbon atoms are allowed to act at an elevated temperature until the evolution of hydrogen chloride ceases, the corresponding carboxylic acid esters become receive.
After the organic solvents have been removed, for example by means of steam, and the free sulfonic acid groups have been converted into the alkali metal salts, the monoazo dyes according to the invention are obtained in excellent yield and purity.
In addition to the coupling components listed above, 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and its halogen-substituted derivatives are also suitable when using 2-9milio-benzoic acid-sulfonic acids as diazo components.
The monoazo dyes according to the invention represent greenish yellow to golden yellow powders, depending on their composition, which dissolve in water with a yellow color and dye wool and wool-like fibers from a neutral to weakly acidic dyebath in very lightfast and wetfast shades.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of a yellow monoazo dye. The procedure is. characterized by the fact that anthranilic acid n-octyl ester is diazotized and the diazo compound is coupled with 1- (2 ', 5'-dichloro-4'-sulfophenyl) -3-methy1-5-pyrazolone.
The resulting new monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0002.0101
represents a yellow powder, which is in war mem water and in conc. Sulfuric acid with a green-tinged yellow color dissolves and dyes wool from neutral or slightly acidic baths in clear, green-tinged yellow shades with excellent wash and milled fastness.
Example: 24.9 parts of anthranilic acid n-octyl ester are suspended in 200 parts of water and 30 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid and diazotized at 0 to 2 with 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite. The clear solution of the diazo compound is gradually added to a solution of 32.3 parts of 1- (2 ', 5'-dichloro-4'-sulfo-phenyl)
- 3 -methyl-5-py razolon and 32 parts of 25% aqueous ammonia flow in 400 parts of water. The dye formation ends after a short time. The monoazo dye obtained initially precipitates in gelatinous form and solidifies after stirring for several hours or by adding 50 parts of potassium chloride.
It is filtered off, washed with 2% strength brine and dried. The dye is a yellow powder, which is in warm water and in conc. Sulfuric acid with a greenish yellow color. It dyes wool from neutral to slightly acidic baths in clear, greenish yellow shades of excellent wash and milled fastness and very good light fastness.
