Process for the production of an azo carbon. It has been found that a valuable azo dye is obtained if diazotized 4-nitro-6-acetylamino-2-amino-l-oxybenzene is used with 4-secondary but.z-1-1-oxybenzene of the formula

clutch.
The new dye is a brown powder that is soluble in a hot, dilute sodium carbonate solution with a brownish-red color and dyes wool from an acidic bath in red-brown shades which, when re-chromed, turn it a dark brown. The dye is also suitable for dyeing using the single-bath contouring process.
The diazotization of the 4-nitro-6-aetyl-amino-2-amino-1-oxvbenzene can be carried out according to conventional methods known from e.g. B. with the help of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite. The coupling of the diazo compound with the 4-sec-butyl-1-oxybenzene is preferably carried out in an alkaline medium, with. Advantage with the addition of neutral solvents, such as. B.
Alcohol, or preferably based on solvents, such as. B. pyridine, ethanolamines, etc. Example: 21.1 parts of 4-nitro-6-acetylaniino- \ 3-amino-l-oxybenzene are suspended in 100 parts of water and, after adding 20 parts, 30o Hydrochloric acid and ice at 5-10 with 25 parts by volume of 4N sodium nitrite solution are diazotized in the usual way. The suspension of the diazo compound is made with sodium carbonate
neutralized, the diazo compound was filtered off and the filter pellet obtained was added to a solution of 15 parts of 4-sec-butyl-1-oxyberizole in 120 percent of pyridine at a temperature of 0-5. The solution of 1.4 parts of potassium hydroxide in 15 parts of water is added dropwise to this suspension with vigorous stirring at -10 to -15 within 6 hours. The mixture is stirred while slowly increasing the Tempe temperature to room temperature until the dye is completely formed.
The dyestuff is precipitated by adding 92 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid, filtered off, then stirred in water and so much potassium hydroxide solution is added that an alkaline phenolphthalein reaction occurs. The partially dissolved dye is deposited by adding potassium chloride, filtered off, washed with 5% potassium chloride solution and dried.
