Process for the preparation of an azo dye. It has been found that a valuable azo dye is obtained if diazotized 4-nitro-6-acetylamino-2-amino-l-oxybenzene is coupled with 4-methyl-1-oxybenzene.
In the dry state, the new dye is a black-brown powder that is soluble in hot, dilute sodium carbonate solution with a red-brown color and dyes wool from an acid bath in brown shades that change into deep brown shades with excellent fastness properties when they are re-chromed. The dye is also ideally suited for dyeing using the single-bath chroming process.
The diazotization of the 4 - nitro - 6 - acety 1- amino-2-amino-1-oxybenzene can according to customary chen methods known per se, for. B. with the help of mineral acid, especially hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite, carried out who the. The coupling of the diazo compound with the 4-methyl-l-oxybenzene is preferably carried out in an alkaline medium, advantageously with addition of neutral solvents, such as. B. Alko hol, or preferably basic solvent, such as. B. pyridine, ethanolamines, etc.
Example: 21.1 parts of 4-nitro-6-acetylamino-2-amino-1-oxybenzene are added to 25 parts of water and 15 parts by volume of 30% hydrochloric acid with the addition of 30 parts of ice and outside cooling with 25 parts by volume of 4N sodium nitrite solution at 5-10 diazotized. The suspension of the diazo compound is neutralized by adding sodium carbonate and at a temperature of 0-5 in a solution of 10.8 parts of 4-methyl-1-oxybenzene in 30 parts of water,
10 parts by volume of 30% sodium hydroxide solution and 60 parts by volume of pyridine entered. The mixture is stirred further, while the temperature is allowed to rise to room temperature, until the dye is completely formed. The deposited dye is filtered, suspended in weakly sodium carbonate alkaline water, filtered again and dried.
