Process for the preparation of a disazo dye. It has been found that a valuable dnsazo dye is obtained if 1,1-diphenylene- (4-4 ') -bis- (3-methyl-5-pyrazolone) is diazotized on both sides with 2-amino-1-oxybenzene -4 - carboxylic acid phenylamide sulfonic acid couples,
in which the sulfonic acid group occupies the same position as that of the 2-nitro-1-phenylamide-sulfonic acid obtained by sulfonating 2-nitro-1-oxybenzene-4-carboxylic acid phenylamide.
The new dye is a red-brown powder that turns orange in water; Dissolves in dilute sodium carbonate solution with red-orange and in dilute sodium hydroxide solution as well as in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellow color.
It dyes cotton and fibers made from regenerated cellulose using the one or two bath re-coppering process in brownish orange shades of good washing and excellent lightfastness.
The diazo component of the present process is expediently obtained by sulfonating 2-nitro-1-oxybenzene-4-carboxylic acid phenylamide and then reducing the 2-nitro-1-oxybenzene-4, carboxylic acid phenylamide sulfonic acid.
The diazotization of the 2-amino-l-oxybenzene-4-carboxylic acid phenylamidesulfonic acid can be carried out by methods known per se, advantageously by the so-called indirect method, that is to say by using a solution containing an alkali salt of the sulfonic acid serving as the diazo component and contains the required amount of nitrite, combined with a dilute acid solution containing an excess of the theoretically required amount of acid, in particular hydrochloric acid.
In the present process, the coupling is advantageously carried out in an alkaline medium.
Example: In 100 parts of fuming sulfuric acid with an anhydride content of 241 / a, 51.6 parts of 2-nitro-1-oxybenzene-4-earbo% acid phenylamide are introduced in portions with thorough stirring. External cooling ensures that: The temperature does not rise above 25. When the addition is complete, stirring is continued for 30 minutes and then poured onto ice.
Sufficient sodium hydroxide solution is then added so that the reaction mixture only reacts slightly acidic and the sulfonated product is filtered off. In the Bechamp-Brimmeyr reduction with iron and a little acetic acid, a light-colored product is obtained that can be recrystallized from 70 percent alcohol.
30.8 parts of the sulfonated product who indirectly.diazotized by dissolving this amount together with 5; 5 parts of sodium carbonate in 1500 parts of water, 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite and 0 to 5 to 40 parts of 30 percent hydrochloric acid and 2.00 parts of water can flow. The diazotization is over after about 3 hours.
For coupling, the diazo suspension is combined at 4 to 8 with a solution of 17.3 parts of 1,1 'diphenylene- (4,4') -bis- (3-methyl-5-pyrazolone), 10; 5 parts of 30 percent strength Sodium hydroxide solution, 30 parts of sodium carbonate and 300 parts of water. After stirring for 12 hours, the coupling product is precipitated with sodium chloride, filtered off, washed and dried,
