Process for the preparation of a disazo dye. "- It has been found that a valuable disazo dye is obtained by using the diazo compound of the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0005
combined with 1-phenylaminonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid.
When dry, the new dye is a dark powder that dissolves in water with a deep blue color and dyes wool from an acetic acid bath in navy blue tones.
The starting material used as the monoazo dye of the above formula can be prepared in a manner known per se by, for example, dianotated 3-aminobenzene-sulfonic acid (1) - [N-ätliylanilid-3'-sulfonic acid] with 1 -Aminonaphthalene combined.
3 - aminobenzene - sulfonic acid (1) - [N - ethyl anilide-3'-sulfonic acid] can also be prepared by methods known per se, for example by adding 3-nitrobenzene-1-sulfonic acid chloride. 1-N-Ethylaniline-3-sulfonic acid is converted and the nitro group is reduced to the amino group in the 3-nitrobenzenesulfonic acid (1.) -N-ethylanilide-3'-sitlphonic acid formed.
The dianotation of the starting material monoazo dye of the above formula can be done, for example, by first treating a weakly alkaline solution of the monoazo dye with an excess of sodium nitrite solution, then with an excess of mineral acid, e.g. B. hydrochloric acid, added, and the resulting sparingly soluble diazoazo compound isolated by filtration.
The coupling of the diazoazo compound with the 1-phenylaminonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid is preferably done in acidic, z. B. acetic acid medium.
Example: 35.6 parts of 3-amino-benzenesulfonic acid- (1) - [N-ethylanilide-3'-sulfonic acid] are suspended in 200 parts of water and dissolved in a weakly alkaline manner with 4 parts of sodium hydroxide. This solution is mixed with 7 parts of sodium nitrite, whereupon below 50 30 parts of conc. Hydrochloric acid are collapsed. A suspension of the sparingly soluble diazo compound is obtained, which is coupled as usual with 14.3 parts of 1-aminonaphthalene.
The blue-red aminoazo dye is suspended in 500 parts of water, dissolved in a slightly alkaline manner with sodium hydroxide, with a concentrated solution of 8 parts of sodium nitrite and 60 parts of conc. Hydrochloric acid added. When the dianotation is complete, the red-brown diazo compound is isolated and introduced into a solution of 32 parts of 1-phenylamino-naphthalene-8-sulfonic acid, 20 parts of crystallized sodium acetate and 3 parts of acetic acid in 500 'of water.
The formation of the dye has ended after a few hours. After being converted into the disodium salt with sodium carbonate, the dye is precipitated with saturated sodium chloride solution at 650 ° C, filtered off while hot, washed with dilute sodium chloride solution and dried.
