<I>Tirage en réduction seulement,</I> <I>à échelle</I> variable.
<I>Utilisation du dispositif</I> <I>comme appareil de prise de</I> vices.
Tirage <I>en grandeur</I> naturelle <I>ou en agrandissement, à</I> échelle variable.
<I>Moyens de réglage.</I>
<I>Tirage des</I> vues <I>prises</I> <I>à</I> moyenne <I>et à</I> grande distance.

The patentee disclosed relief photographs where the positive image is combined with a transparent lenticular front screen.
The positive images entering into the composition of the selectographies are, according to one of the known methods used by the patent holder, taken starting from negative images, themselves obtained using a camera. single-purpose views. This device can be moved in an arc of a circle around the subject to be photographed taken as the center, and its chamber comprises a frame where the plate, or other sensitive surface, is placed behind a lenticular array.
The apparatus is set up so that the frame carrying the whole of what will be the negative image and the selectograph, either during the shooting, moved parallel to itself to effect a circular translation in this way. from subject. The lined negative being thus obtained through a selectograph, the positive can be obtained by the usual contact printing processes.
According to another process used by the licensee, the different images are juxtaposed on an unlined negative image, and their combination, obtained on the positive image layer using the selectograph, provides the effect of relief when the positive is viewed through the selectoscope. Negative images, instead of being taken with the single lens of a rotating device and through a selectograph associated with the sensitive plate,
are then obtained with the help of a device comprising in a straight line a row of objectives with converging lines of sight, the point of convergence corresponding to the location of the subject to be photographed.
This. The apparatus is the subject of French patent N 774145, of June 5, 1934, belonging to the holder of this patent, and it is represented schematically by FIG. 1 of the drawing annexed to the present description. The whole of this apparatus, designated by A, comprises a chamber divided by partitions into compartments in number corresponding to that of the objectives. In the rear part of said chamber can be placed a frame for the negative intended to receive the multiple views.
The posi tive is pulled, as shown in fig. 2 of the attached drawings, by illuminating the negative 6 from the rear by means of a lamp 7, and by projecting it onto the positive sensitive surface 15; a selector screen constituted by a grid or frame 12 being interposed in the path of the rays at a suitable distance in front of the sensitive surface.
According to another known principle means (see American patent N 1942638, of January 9, 1934), principle recalled by the diagram of FIG. 3 of the attached drawing, a pivoting arm 13 in C carries at its free end a projection lantern D which successively illuminates each of the different negative images E in order to project the image onto the selector and the positive sensitive surface placed in a frame G.
In this device, the classification of the image lines behind the selector is caused by sliding the latter against the positive sensitive surface, by means of a micrometric screw V.
The printing is carried out in stages, the screw V being turned by hand, at a determined angle, after the projection of each cliché.
In what follows, and in support of fig. 4, 4a and @ 4b of the accompanying drawing, a first embodiment of the object of the invention will first be described in detail, designed exclusively for reduction operations and for the shooting of images. small objects.
Another exemplary embodiment of the object of the invention, serving as a printer and making it possible to obtain reductions or enlargements of the subject photographed at will, will then be described with reference to FIGS. 5, 5a, 5b, 6 and 7.
<I> Reduction only, </I> <I> at variable scale </I>.
An apparatus for drafting in reduction only, on a variable scale, is shown in FIGS. 4 and 4a; the main elements corresponding by their function to those of the two preceding figures are indicated by the same reference letters. In this fi gure, 1 designates a frame carrying at one of its ends a vertical pivot C. On this rotates the frame B provided with rollers 5 (see fig. 6) by which it bears on an extreme upper cross member of the frame, forming a raceway 2. A projection lantern D comprising the bulb 6, the capacitor 7 and the reflector 8, is fixed to the end of the frame B opposite to the pivot C.
For the clarity of the description, this end of the device will be called the rear end, the front end being that where the pivot C. is located.
This frame B moves under a bridge 9 belonging to the frame 1, on which the negative-carrying camera A is placed, the multiple objectives of which are designated by F. Each of these objectives is preferably provided with a diaphragm at horizontal slits of the greatest possible length, and the destination of which will be specified far away. The negative multiple images in a rectilinear row to be projected, set up in this apparatus A, is shown in E.
The pivoting movement of the frame B around the axis C can be caused by an appropriate drive device not shown, for example an electric motor driving one of the rollers 5 (fig. 6) by means of a reductive reference. The frame B supports an articulated parallelogram, formed by the rockers 13 and 13 ', mounted on the axes 15 and C, and by the two rods 17 articulated at the ends of the two rockers. The axis 15 is fixed to the frame B, and the balance 13 rotates freely around said axis. On the other hand, the balance 13 'is immobile; the axis C, on which the balance 13 'is wedged, passes through the cross member of the frame B, as shown in FIG. 4a.
Said axis C acts as a pivot for the frame B and it is fixed to the end cross member 10 of the frame 1, for example by means of a flange 11 pinned to this axis.
A constant parallelism is thus achieved between the balances 7.3 'and 13 on the one hand, and the multi-negative image E on the other hand, whatever the angular position taken by the frame B, in its pivoting movement around axis C.
In order to impose on the positive-holder G itself a circular translation parallel to the multi-negative image E, this positive-holder is secured by an axis 23 at the midpoint of a balance 21 (see fig. 4b), the which is guided by its ends on the rods 17, constituting the longitudinal sides of the articulated parallelogram 13, 17, 13 '. This ba lance 21 can be locked in any desired position along the rods 17, by means of tightening sleeves controlled by knurled knobs 22. Only one of these stop members is shown in FIG. 4b.
The positive holder G pivots inside the front box 25 of a camera 26 of the known bellows type, the rear box of which is designated by 27.
As shown, the uprights of the frame 24 which receives the positive-holder G form cylinder portions and fit smoothly against the corresponding walls of the front housing 25, to ensure the light-tightness between these. two or ganes, while allowing their relative movement.
The front and rear housings 25 and 27 can be moved along the frame B, by means of pinions 3 (see FIG. 6) meshing with the racks 12 of said frame, and commanded for example by knurled knobs, not shown.
The movement of the front housing 25 causes it to slide on the rods 17 of the ba lancer 21, when the locking knobs 22 are released, and it is thus possible to vary the distance separating the element A from the element G, by view to achieve scale changes in the positives drawn with this device.
The distance d which separates the objectives P from the pivot C is equal to the distance which separates from the subject photographed the objectives belonging to the camera, as in the apparatus according to fig. 3.
The apparatus may include an object-holder table shown at 31 (fig. 4) and resting on the cross member 10 of the frame 1. The frame B can be moved freely below this table 31 and between the uprights of the bridge 9 which supports device A.
The rear housing 27 is arranged to receive a removable cone 32, on which can be mounted, in appropriate windshields 33, interchangeable optical elements correcting the convergence J. The windshields are organized to receive, at the rear of the convergence-correcting optical member J, a diaphragm 39 which is interchangeable like this member itself, and cooperating with the diaphragms with which the objectives F are provided, in order to delimit exactly the light beams emanating from said objectives.
As will be seen later, a frame 24 with a cylindrical seal and a positive holder such as G, or a frosted glass holder frame, can be placed in the rear case 27, when the camera is used for shooting.
For this use, the front housing 25 is itself organized so as to be able to additionally receive a lens holder cone such as 32.
The apparatus is provided with two lateral screens 35, 36, fixed in an adjustable position in the lateral direction on the bridge 9, and making it possible to hide at will one or more of the extreme P objectives.
Fig. 4 shows in solid lines the apparatus arranged for a first pulling operation, the pivoting assembly <I> B, G, D </I> being shown in its starting position. This same figure represents in phantom lines the position occupied by said assembly during the last drawing operation.
The operation as a printer of the apparatus shown (fig. 4 and 4b) is as follows: The device A with multiple objectives (which may be the one used to photograph the subject at distance d) is placed on the bridge 9; additional means (setting screw, or other appropriate, not shown) make it possible to precisely adjust the level and the orientation of this device with respect to the optical axis XY of the printer itself, in order to ensure the correct centering of images on the H.
The multi-negative image E, if it was obtained with the apparatus A itself, is developed and then placed back in the latter.
The positive is then pulled by continuous pivoting of frame B on axis C.
The central ray of the light beam emanating from the projection lantern 6, when the frame B occupies the position represented in solid lines in fig. 4, first passes through the image 28 corresponding to the third objective F, starting from the top of the figure, the first two objectives being masked by the screen 36. This negative image, if no additional optical device such as J is not interposed in the path of the rays, would come, after passing through this objective F, to reform in natural size in the plane of the pivot C.
However, as the apparatus, as is the case in fig. 4, is intended for the printing of positive proofs on a smaller scale than the photographed subject, the positive-holder G is brought to a position closer to the objectives P than the point C, that is to say at a distance of these, corresponding to the desired reduction ratio. The cone 32, in this case, receives the corresponding optical convergence corrector J, which at this distance restores the focus of the projected image 28.
This is transformed, in a known manner, on the positive sensitive surface H, thanks to the refraction caused by the cylindrical lenses of the selectograph I, into a series of vertical image lines each occupying, with respect to the lenses of the selector. tograph, a definite position.
During the continuous movement of the vote printed on the frame B, in the direction indicated by the arrow (fig. 4) thanks to the means mentioned above, the lantern D will successively illuminate all the negative images such as 28 carried by the multi-shot. -negatives E, and these will each be reproduced, on the positive H, in the form of new image lines, juxtaposed with the previous ones, during the circular translational movement imprinted on the G positive holder.
Indeed, during the angular displacement of the frame B, between the starting position shown in solid lines and the extreme position shown in phantom in fig. 4, the positive-holder G remained parallel to itself, under the action of the articulated parallelogram 13, 13 ', 17 which controls the orientation of the lancing device 21. A relative angular movement between the positive-holder G and the successive xy axes of projection were thus caused, this movement having the effect of classifying by parallactic effect, behind each lenticular element of the selectograph I, the image lines in the order of succession of the negative images of the plate E.
The horizontal slit diaphragms with which the objectives F are fitted, in addition to the gain in sharpness which they provide, regulate the luminous flux which strikes the positive H, during the progressive passage of the projection lantern D behind each of these objectives. In the absence of these diaphragms, the light rays coming from the lantern would represent a maximum of intensity in the axis of each objective, to gradually weaken until extinction, when the axis of the lantern D switch between two F goals, then increase intensity again, and so on.
On the contrary, the presence of slit diaphragms ensures alternating regular illuminations and abrupt extinctions, favorable to the regularity of exposure of the positive H.
When the frame B has reached the end of its travel, that is to say when the last image of the negative plate E has been projected, the positive holder G is removed from the front case 25, the positive test <I > II </I> is developed, then fitted with a selectorscope with characteristics similar to those of the selectograph I used for the draw, in order to constitute the selectography.
<I> Use of the device </I> <I> as a device for </I> vices. As has been said above, the camera can, by means of a simple transformation, be quickly adapted to taking pictures. For this use, the object to be photographed 0 is placed directly above the pivot C, on the table 31 (see fig. 6). This can also support the various projectors required for lighting. The front housing 25 of the camera 26 receives in this case, as indicated in phantom lines in FIG. 6, a cone 32, no longer carrying an optical convergence-correcting member J, but an objective 28, and the positive holder G is removed from the housing 25.
On the other hand, the housing 27 receives a negative holder similar to the positive holder G, but turned over, so that the selectograph I which it contains is turned towards the objective 28. This negative holder is made solid by means of an axis such as 23, of the sliding beam 21 which has been slid to the level of the housing 27, or else is connected by this axis to an additional balance such as 21, permanently provided under the housing 27, which then plays the role of rear box of the photographic chamber 26.
The lantern D remains in this case unused, and the apparatus A can be withdrawn from the bridge 9. If one then exposes a negative plate, behind a selectograph such as I, mounted in the pivoting negative holder in the housing 27, through the objective 28 mounted on the box 25, by rotating the frame B around 1 axis C in a continuous movement, the axis of the object 0 to be photographed placed on the table 31 practically coinciding with the axis C, successive images of said object, seen under different viewing angles, will be recorded on this negative plate H,
this recording being made in the form of vertical image lines classified by the effect of the selectograph. The negative image, once developed, is drawn by contact, to provide a positive lineage print (selectogram) which, when covered with a selectoscope, gives the object a raised image (selectography). To allow correct positioning and focusing of the image on the negative, before taking the pictures, the negative holder G will be temporarily replaced, in the frame belonging to the housing 27, by a frame bearing a frosted glass.
Print <I> in natural size </I> or in enlargement, on </I> variable scale. The printing of full-scale proofs requires, as was specified above, that the positive holder G be brought at the distance d from the objectives F, that is to say directly above the pivot C. When the apparatus comprises a table 31, polish the shooting, this does not allow the positive-holder to be brought in line with the pivot of the frame.
The balance 13 'constitutes another obstacle to bringing the two pivots C and 23 into coincidence, unless the articulation yokes of the balance 21 have a very particular arrangement, shown schematically in FIG. 45, where it can be seen that the yokes 22 comprise an extension which can bring the balance 21 above the balance 13 '; so that the pivots C and 23 are coaxial.
The variant embodiment shown in FIGS. 5, 5a, 5b, 6 and 7 offer the possibility of obtaining these prints in life size, as well as enlargements of the photographed object. It differs from the device shown in figs. 4, 4a and 4b by the fact that, on the one hand, the frame B is extended forwards beyond the pivot C; on the rear arm of the frame B are taken the positions of the front casing of the chamber 26 in reducing operations, while the positions for the enlargement operations are taken on the front arm.
In these figures, the same letters and reference numbers designate the members corresponding to those of the printer according to FIGS. 4, 4a, 4b.
The cross member 14 of the frame B pivots here also on the axis C, but the upper end of this axis does not carry the front balance 13 ', which is transferred to the long end of the frame B, where it is pinned. on a vertical axis 16, which ends down, below the frame B, by a better visible 1T block -on fig. 5a.
In this block freely rotates one of the ends of a threaded rod 18, which is screwed at its opposite end into a sleeve for mant nut, on which journals the yoke 18 'of a rod 20 whose other end is it even articulated on the free end of a fixed arm 19, oriented perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the frame 1, and for example mounted on the lower part of the fixed axis C. The elements 19, 20, 18 constitute the three branches of an articulated quadrilateral situated in a plane lower than that of the parallelogram 13, 17, 13 ', and the elements 19 and 18 of which serve by construction as an immutable orientation.
The destination of the threaded rod 18 will be specified later.
The balance 13 'being integral with the fixed arm 19, by means of the axis 16, the block 17', the threaded rod 18 and the rod 20, the parallelogram 13 ', 17, 21, 13 will accomplish the same function that in the device according to fig. <I> 4, </I> 4ca, 4b, in conjunction with the footing of frame B around axis C.
The balance 13 'thus being separated from the pivot C, the positive-holder G can be brought, by the displacement of the front housing 25, up to plumb with the pivot C, to obtain positive tests in size. natural, in which case no use is made of a convergence-correcting optical member J. The table 31 must, of course, be in this case removable, in order to be able to be removed when the device is not used for taking of views, and not obstruct the movement of the positive holder on the extended part of the frame B.
To this end, it can for example be secured to the frame 1 in the manner shown in FIG. 6a; each of its feet is extended by a threaded rod 31 'with a base, passing through a corresponding bore in the cross member 70 of the frame, and blocked by a nut.
When the positive holder G is brought beyond the pivot C, for the printing of key enlargements of the object photographed, the optical organ J, which had convergent characteristics for the reduction operations, is replaced by an optical organ J 'of divergent characteristics. The fi-. 5 shows, in phantom lines, the extreme position of the frame B, the apparatus being arranged for printing an enlargement, in which case the positive-holder G occupies for example the position indicated also in phantom lines. The illustrated extension of the frame B, beyond the pivot C, only allows reduced enlargement scales, in the illustrated embodiment.
There is nothing to prevent this end of the frame B from being further extended, in order to obtain greater magnifications.
The front box 25 may be provided with an index such as 60 (FIG. 6) moving in front of marks 30 of frame B, each corresponding to a format and to a corrector. of convergence determined.
The diagram in fig. 10 indicates the path in broken lines. light rays corresponding to the print in natural size. The resulting format is denoted by n. In this case, no optical convergence member is used. For reduction pulling (case of fig. 4), the course of the spokes is that indicated in solid lines; the resulting format is designated by r; the converging optical member, used in this case, being designated by J. Finally, this same diagram represents in phantom lines the path of the rays in the case of the ti rage in magnification; the format obtained being designated by a; the optical organ J 'then presents divergent characteristics.
<I> Means of adjustment. </I>
Under normal operating conditions of the printer, the positive-holder G performs, by means of the means indicated, a circular translational movement, that is to say it moves parallel to itself with the box. front tier 25, which rotates around pivot C, during the angular movement of frame B.
It may., In some cases, be desirable to reduce the relief effect provided by the observation of seletography. This result can be obtained by masking, during the firing, a certain number of the extreme objectives F, by means of screens 35, 36, slidably mounted on the bridge 9. The useful pivoting travel of the frame B and, consequently, the The projection angle are thus reduced in the desired pro portion, causing a. relief effect.
However, the opening angle of the lenticular elements of the selectograph 1 being invariable, since it depends on the actual curvature of its lenses, the positive-holder G must always pivot by an angle equal to this angle of opening, during the reduced useful stroke of the frame B, afizi that the vertical strip of photosensitive emulsion which corresponds to each lens of the selectograph I is printed over its entire width.
An additional oscillation is consequently imposed in this case on the positive carrier G, with respect to the angular travel of the frame B. It is for this purpose that the threaded branch 18 of the articulated quadrilateral is liable to vary in length by screwing or unscrewing in the sleeve of the yoke 18 '.
Fig. 5b represents in solid and strong lines the position occupied by the lower quadrilateral 19, 20, 18, when the frame B occupies its median position, and in strong broken lines the position which it takes, when this frame is at the end of course, in the case where the quadrilateral constitutes a parallelogram. The line in thin solid lines represents this same parallelogram deformed by the shortening of the branch 18 thereof, at the middle position of the frame B, and the line in thin dotted lines shows it in the end-of-travel position.
It emerges immediately from the figure that during the travel of the frame B corresponding to the angle a, the balan cier 13 'performs an additional angular displacement b all the greater as the rod 18 has been further shortened.
By this means, for example, it becomes possible to draw a selectography taken at a recording angle of 120, using a selectograph and a selectoscope whose lenses have an opening angle of 16, in order to obtain an effect. of reduced relief. Fig. 5b bears the indication of the value of these different angles.
The possibility of adjustment offered by the branch 18 of variable length also allows the rigorous focusing of the device.
Figs. 4, 5, 6 show that the positive-holder G is not directly mounted in the frame 24 which forms a cylindrical seal inside the front housing 25. It is placed in an intermediate frame 29 sliding inside the housing. the frame 24, along the longitudinal axis of the printer.
The reason for this special arrangement is as follows: If, when the picture is taken, the subject photographed was not exactly at the distance from this subject, the image of this subject, when projected, would not form exactly in the plane of the pivot C, when no optical organ such as J is used. On the completed life-size selectography, the subject would appear, under these conditions, either inside or outside the plane of the image.
The sliding frame 29 makes it possible, however, to move the positive holder forward or back, by the necessary quantity, inside the frame 24, in order to correct the error of distance made during the shooting. Such a correction can of course be made, under the same conditions, for all the reproduction ratios in enlargement or reduction obtained by means. of the optical elements J or J '.
Another way of restoring the coincidence between the plane of the projected image and the plane of the positive consists in moving the whole of the multi-objective apparatus A on the bridge 9, following the longitudinal axis of the printer. To this end, said multi-objective device can for example be placed on a platform, movable parallel to itself, in the front-rear direction of the device. This platform, of any construction, is not shown in the drawing and it can be combined with the means for adjusting the position of the apparatus A mentioned above.
<I> Printing of </I> views <I> taken </I> <I> at </I> medium <I> and </I> long distance.
It has been specified that the device described pi votes around an axis C, the distance to the objectives F of which is equal to that which, when the picture was taken, separated these objectives from the subject or the object to be photographed. While it is easy to satisfy this condition, in the case of the printing of portraits, it is otherwise for devices taking the printing of architectural or landscape shots, that is to say of photographic prints. taken for example 10 or 20 meters away.
This difficulty can be overcome by causing the frame B to pivot around a fictitious vertical pivot, corresponding to the location of the intended objective. It is possible to envisage the case where the shots will have been taken at a very great distance, that is to say the case where the lines of sight of the objectives F are practically parallel to each other. The frame B is then moved parallel to itself, but it is however necessary to ensure the positive carrier G the pivoting movement necessary for the classification of the image lines.
Figs. 8 and 9 show two embodiments of devices of this type, allowing the printing of the images recorded under the particular conditions indicated above, without having to resort to devices of excessive dimensions. The printers shown in these figures comprise most of the components previously described, and which are designated there by the same letters or reference numbers.
Fig. 8 shows a printer intended for reproducing images taken at a distance from the subject equal to 10 m for example. The frame B rests on the two tables 2 and 2 ', carried by the frame 1, by means of the rollers 50 and 50' fixed to the underside of the side members of this frame. It is guided in an arc of a circle, as shown in the drawing, by means of the three rollers 43, 44, 45, on the vertical raceways 41 and 42 of the table 2. The radius of curvature of the raceways corresponds to the shooting distance, so that at each point of the path of the frame B the optical axis XY of the device passes through the axis C. The same optical conditions as in the device according to the preceding figures are are thus realized.
The pivoting movement of the positive holder G, inside the front box. 25, on the angle equal to that of the lenses of the selector I, is, in this case, obtained thanks to the following device: the frame 24 is integral with a vertical axis. 23 which carries an arm 21 on which is articulated by one of its ends a push rod 46. The latter carries, at its other end, the roller 47 which rolls on a ramp 48 eccentric with respect to the running tracks 41 and 42. The push rod 46 is guided and supported in a sleeve 46 'which pivots in a fork 49 fixed to the spar of the frame B.
The application of the roller 47 on the ramp 48 is ensured by the action of a spring 49 'fixed, on the one hand, to the push rod 46 and, on the other hand, to the oven 49. L' eccentricity of the ramp 48 with respect to the axis C is chosen so that the pivoting imposed on the frame 24 corresponds to the opening angle of the lenses of the selector <I> I, </I> during the total stroke of the <I> B. </I> framework
It is quite obvious that the mechanism shown in fig. 8 may include accessory devices similar to those shown in the preceding figures, and intended to vary the scale of reproduction, which can only be a reduction, as well as to determine the exact angle of pivoting of the frame 24. For this purpose, the arm 21 can for example be made adjustable in length, in the same way as the branch 18 of the lower linkage of FIG. 5a.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 9 is similar to that shown in fig. 8, but it applies to the case where the pictures were taken at a very great distance. The frame B must then no longer move in rotation around a point, but indeed pa rally to itself. The guiding paths 51, 52 are therefore rectilinear. The frame B carries four rollers 53, 54, 55, 56. The pivoting of the frame 24 is, this time again, ensured by a mechanism similar to that described in FIG. 8; but the pivoting control ramp 58 is also straight, as shown in the figure.
The operation of the two printers shown in fig. 8 and 9 need not be described in more detail; it is similar to that of the devices which are the subject of the preceding figures.
