est beaucoup plus grand que celui -de la période d'exposition. Lorsque l'ob jectif tourne à une vitesse constante corres pondant à la rapidité de la suite des exposi tions successives, cette vitesse est trop forte pour permettre l'admission d'une quantité de lumière suffisante pendant la période id'exp.o- sition. Inversement, si l'objectif tourne assez lentement pour que suffisamment .de ;
Sur le dessin annexé qui représente, à titre d'exemple, une forme de réailisation de l'appareil selon l'inventio@n: Fig. 1 est une vue die côté, en partie brisée; Fig. 2 est une coupe suivant la, ligne II-II -de fig. 1; Fig. 3 est une coupe suivant la ligne III-III de la fig. 1;
Fig. 4 est une coupe verticale des moyens d'actionnement de l'arbre représenté sur ?a fig. 1; Fig. 5 est une coupe selon .la ligne V -V de la fig. 4; Fig. 6 est une coupe selon la ligne VI-VI de la. fig. 4;
Cinematographic camera. The present invention relates. cinematographic cameras with rotating lenses.
An essential quality of a cinematographic camera is that sufficient light enters the camera during the exposure time so that suitable photo graphic images can be impressed on the camera. 1a_ pel licule or photographic film.
This necessary quality -is difficult to achieve, owing to the short duration of the exposure period and the rapidity of the movement of the film as well as the rapidity of the successive exposures which are involved. the consequence.
Rotating lenses have many advantages over fixed lenses, especially for taking extended images in which the exposure arc of the lens is larger than that of the ordinary image. () n encountered difficulties in the application of rotating lenses, due to the fact that the arc of revolution, during the period of non-exposure,
is much larger than that of the exposure period. When the lens rotates at a constant speed corresponding to the rapidity of the series of successive exposures, this speed is too high to allow the admission of a sufficient quantity of light during the period of exposure. . Conversely, if the lens rotates slowly enough that enough .de;
light is admitted during the exposure period, this movement is too slow to allow a rapid succession of exposures.
According to the present invention, these drawbacks are overcome by the fact that a drive device at constant rotational speed drives the rotating objective via a movement transmission device designed in such a way. let it impart to the objective a uniform and slow movement during a determined part & its revolution corresponding to the exposure and a rapid movement during another part of its revolution corresponding to the interval between two successive exposures.
In the accompanying drawing which shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention: FIG. 1 is a side view, partly broken away; Fig. 2 is a section along the line II-II -de fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section taken along line III-III of FIG. 1;
Fig. 4 is a vertical section through the means for actuating the shaft shown in FIG. 1; Fig. 5 is a section along the line V -V of FIG. 4; Fig. 6 is a section on line VI-VI of the. fig. 4;
Fig. 7,, 8 and 9 are views showing different positions of the the cam. During the revolution of the: a-rbre, drive, these views being taken along line VII -VII of fig. 4.
This apparatus comprises a rotating shaft 1.0 carrying the angle pinion 11 which is rigidly connected to the. crank, maneuver 12. A vertical rotating shaft 13 carries the angle pinion 1.4 rigidly fixed, which meshes with the angle pinion 11 and the toothed wheel 15.
A link 6 connects the shaft pivot 13 to the countershaft 17, the latter carrying a toothed wheel 18 wedged on it and engages with the , toothed wheel 1.5. A connecting rod 19 connects to. the shaft 17 is pivoted with the sleeve 20 of the constant speed drive shaft 21, the latter carrying a toothed wheel 22, mounted on it and meshing with the, wheel-bearing 18.
The shaft 21 carries a sleeve 23 which, in turn. is carried by the. movable plate 24 and which has an internally threaded element 25. The plate 24 can slide inside the fixed plate 26 by which it is supported.
The upper part of the shaft 21 carries the plate 27 rigidly fixed and which has a longitudinal opening 28.
A cam 29 provided with a path, rolling 30 is connected to and carried by the member 31 integral with the sleeve 23.
The revolution of the shaft 21 therefore causes the plate 27 to move around this shaft, while the blade 29 remains stationary. A plate 33 is carried by the support 32 and can slide on the latter, while the extended arms 34, 34 'of the plate 33 serve as a support for the rotating shaft 35.
The lower end of the shaft 35 carries a plate 36 wedged on it and inside which slides a slider 37. A screw 38 carried by the neck #lisseau 37 carries the roller 39 inside .de. the opening 28 @ of the plate 27 and the roller 40 inside the path @de rolling 30.
An opening 37 'made in the plate 36 allows the displacement of the slide 37.
The shaft 35 carries the angle pinion 41 which is rigidly fixed to it, a casing .d ', lens 42 having the openings c> placed 43 and 44 and containing the lens 45 susceptible to rotate through its casing, and carried by the upper end of the driven shaft 35.
As it has: command rbre 21 turns, it turns the board \? 7 around @the center of the tree. The roller 39 capable of sliding in the opening 28 cl. 1 tray and connected:
the slide 37, rotates the driven shaft 35. but, like the. screw 38 which carries the roller 39 in the opening 28 also carries the roller 40 in the rolling path 30, it is obvious that the ratio between the speeds of revolution of the shafts 21 and 2 5 will depend on the contour or shape of the path bearing and as shown in fig. ?, 8 and 9, The bearing raceway shown in drawing a,
such an outline as a uniform revolution of the drive shaft 21 imparts a uniform and slow rotational movement to the driven shaft 35 during a 72 revolution of the driven shaft 35 and a much faster movement of the driven shaft for the remainder of its revolution, the speed ratio in this case being 2 to 1. In other words, the driven shaft takes twice as long (the time to turn of 72 as to carry out the rest of its revolution.
The plates 26 and 32 are supported by the front 46 .of the casing comprising a opening or opening 47. On the outside of the casing 4.6 and resting on the consoles 48-48 is a rotating shaft 49 bearing rows of angle pigons 50 --t 51 and -whose central part 52 is threaded. The lower end of the shaft 49 carries a knurled knob 53 to facilitate 1a. handling.
A threaded rod 54 capable of rotating in an opening formed in the casing 46 is screwed into a threaded opening formed in the sliding element 33 and it carries an angle pinion 55 meshing with the angle pinion 50. A rod thread 56 capable of turning in an opening made in the casing 46 is screwed into the threaded opening of the element 25 of the sliding part 23 and carries a. angle pinion 57 meshing with the angle pinion 51.
An element 58 which is not rotatable has an internally threaded sleeve 59 ,. screwed onto the shaft 5-2, as well as an indicator needle 60. A scale 61 is attached to the front of the casing 46.
The rotation of the shaft 49 will move the plates 23 and 33 in synchronism inwardly and outwardly with respect to the front part 46 of the casing and will thus move the entire mechanism carried by these plates. Indicator needle 60 will move along shaft 49 and give indications on scale 61.
The lens 45 can thus be focused while the mechanism is in motion.
To the base 62 of the casing is connected a pa.lieu 63 supporting the hollow rotating shaft 64.
A hub 65 is supported so as to be able to rotate by the forked support 66 carried by the bearing 67 of the element 34, the forks of the support 66 being engaged in an annular groove provided in the hub 65: The hub 65 carries the pinion d 'angle 68 meshing with the angle pinion 41.
The journal 69 of the shaft 64 can slide smoothly inside the hub 65 and has a key seat 70 into which is fitted a key carried internally by the hub 65..
The hub 65 can therefore move longitudinally with respect to the journal 69, but the rotation of the hub 65 will still cause the journal 69 and the shaft 64 to rotate.
The shaft 64 carries the screen 71 which is rigidly connected to it and which has a window 72. It can thus be seen that the sliding movement of the mechanism for focusing will not disengage the shaft 64 and the bevel gear 68 from the pinion. 41 carried by the driven shaft 35.
So that the entire surface of the photographed film is at the focus of the lens. rotating, the film is kept curved longi tudinally in an arc whose center is formed by the optical center of the lens, this result being obtained as follows:
The rear of the envelope 62 has a portion 73 which is curved outwardly and within which is an opening 74 having the desired optical angle with respect to the lens 45, the film 75 being moved vertically. across opening 74 by means of a suitable mechanism with intermittent movements. The film 75 is held in the tensioned position by means of the elements 76-76 brought to abut properly against the film by means of the adjustable spring 77 which is actuated by the knurled button 78 threaded internally and which is screwed onto the film. threaded element 79.
A steering wheel 81 is connected to. tree 21.
The operation of the device is as follows: A uniform rotational speed is imparted to the shaft 10, which speed is transmitted to the driving shaft 21. The plate 27 thus receives a constant revolution movement around the shaft. driving shaft 21. This movement of the driving shaft 21 is transmitted to the driven shaft 35 via the gaets 39 and 40 which are carried by the bucket slide 37 and which pass through the opening 28 of the plate 27 - and move in the raceway 30. The rotation of the driven shaft 35 rotates the casing of the objective 42 and the objective 45 thus causing the latter to pass in front of the opening 47 at each revolution. .
As the lens passes in front of the opening 47 of the front part 46 of the envelope, a photographic print is made on the film 75 through the window 72 of the screen 71. During the continuation of the film. evolution of the lens, the screen 71 interrupts the passage of light through the opening 44 of the rear of the envelope 7 3 and the film 7. ", is brought into position for the photographic printing Next .
In fig. 7, the roller 40 is in alignment between the drive shaft 21 and the driven shaft 35.
In fig. 9, the. ga 'and 40 has been moved 120 from its previous position relative to the drive shaft 21 and 36 from the driven shaft 35.
In fig. 9, the roller 40 a. moved (until it is again in line with shafts 21 and 35, but is now at, the opposite end of the cam raceway from ii, that shown in Fig. 7.
The figures therefore show three positions during a half-revolution of the drive shaft 21.
The contour of the, right-hand side of the train track is such that a uniform revolution of 120 of the shaft negates 21 from the end where the dead center of the track is. bearing, on either side, will produce the finished 36 uniform rotational movement of the driven shaft 35.
Thus, during a 240 uniform revolution motion of the drive shaft, the driven shaft will perform. a uniform revolving movement of 72 and the mechanism will be at. position shown in fig. 8.
As the: a.rbremenant continues its movement of uniform re @ voluho i, the. distance of the roller 40 to the shaft leading to - ,, - ment and, consequently, the speed of its movement increases, which thus causes the driven shaft to turn more rapidly, the mechanism being -.lors in the. position shown on the wire) ,. 9.
The continuation of the movement of the tree. leading moves the vest 40 to. a reduced speed @Tadueflement to the point in the track where it again performs a uniform and slow movement.
It is thus roofed that, thanks to the device clr ', crit, a uniform and slow movement is iiripriin, @ to a rotating objective during the. period of exposure and an air movement is imprinted on it during the period of e rion-exposure, the lens may be focused during its. rotation.
