Le but de la justification est d'amener toutes les lignes sur une longueur commune par une déformation qui, s'exer çant dans le seul sens horizontal, respecte et main tienne constante la hauteur des caractères. La me sure commune peut être la mesure de la ligne la plus longue, auquel cas la déformation allonge les lignes courtes ; la mesure commune peut être la mesure de la ligne la plus courte, auquel cas la déformation raccourcit les lignes longues ;
Optical line justification device applied to photocomposition The present invention relates to an optical line justification device, applied to the photo composition ensuring the equal length setting of the lines between them and their alignment, characterized in that it comprises two prisms mounted so as to rotate around axes parallel to their edges, axes arranged perpendicular to the plane defined by the optical axis of the device and the direction of the lines, and in that the two prisms are linked so that their rotational movements are integral but in the opposite direction.
Optical devices are known which lengthen or shorten the original lines to bring them to a common measurement, but their drawback is to reduce or increase the height of the characters. A solution to this disadvantage has been proposed, which consists in moving the document laterally while a photographed objective explores it in order to project the constituent images thereof onto a filmstrip; depending on the direction of movement of the document, the image of the line is lengthened or shortened.
A device is also known which compensates for the variation in the height of the characters by tilting, with respect to the vertical, either the document or the film.
Finally, another known device provides an anamorphic optical system which requires lateral movements to center the lines with respect to one another.
The optical justification device forming the subject of the invention offers the advantage of justifying a line over a given length, without modifying the height of the characters and without requiring displacements or movements either of the document or of the system. optics or film.
The operating conditions of the prisms, which are described below, ensure the conditions of optical stigmatism, that is to say the formation of sharp images. On the other hand, the common direction of the edges of the prisms and of the axes of rotation defined above is such that the deformation only concerns the width of the letters and not their height, which remains invariable.
For the description of the invention, a typed original has been selected, by way of example, given that the choice of this example in no way limits the application of the invention to this concrete example. In particular, the invention can be applied to the justification of lines whose composition is effected by photographic projection letter by letter, the optical effect sought over the whole of the line being exerted proportionally on the projections. successive letters and spaces making up the line. In typed originals, the typing itself ensures the alignment of the lines on the left side.
The aim of the justification is to bring all the lines on a common length by a deformation which, being exerted in the only horizontal direction, respects and maintains constant the height of the characters. The common measurement may be the measurement of the longest line, in which case the deformation elongates the short lines; the common measurement may be the measurement of the shortest line, in which case the deformation shortens the long lines;
in the application example described later, it was chosen as the common measure of the length of an average line, that is to say the case where the deformation must act in one direction and the other to lengthen short lines and shorten long lines, so that only the slightest distorting effect is given to the average graphic aspect of the original. We already know that horizontal deformations of the order of 10% only give each of the characters an alteration not perceptible at 1 '# i1 of the reader.
The length of the line to be justified is therefore chosen as a function of this maximum deformation and of the style specific to the original character so that, given the width of the character, a margin of 5 or 6 characters is available at the end of the line for allow you to choose the appropriate place for the hyphenation of sentences or words; said margin which constitutes the justification zone itself corresponds to 10% of the line justified or to be justified. The typewritten original considered in the embodiment described below is that which can be supplied by all of my commercial machines, equipped with characters of variable width. This type of typewritten text was chosen to demonstrate the continuity and precision of tuning and the continuing justifying capabilities of the system described.
It is understood that any typing with uniform characters could give rise to pre-established adjustments and justifying effects on 1, 2, 3 characters, etc., without going outside the scope of this invention. tion.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
The fi-. 1 is a schematic plan view. Fig. 2 illustrates, on a larger scale, the relative movements of the prisms <I> Pl </I> and P2.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are, respectively, a top view, a bottom view and a section of the organs intended to ensure the rotation of the prisms <I> PI </I> and P2.
The fia. 6 is a detail view of the control for moving the prisms.
The fia. 7 is a partial section taken along line VII-VII of FIG. 4.
Fig. 8 is an overall diagram of a reproduction chamber provided with the execution form.
The embodiment shown in the drawing comprises two prisms <I> PI </I> and P2, mounted to oscillate around two axes <I> XI </I> and <I> X2 </I> parallel to the edges of the prisms . The conditions of stigmatism require that this assembly works in parallel light, which entails the twinning of two objectives OI and 02, of focal length f1 <I> and </I> f2, on either side of the prisms < I> PI </I> and P2. The document <I> D is </I> placed in the focal plane-object of the objective OI and the emulsion E in the focal plane-image of the objective <I> 02. </I> AJ represents the line to reproduce, <I> A </I> being the start of the line and J the end of the line.
The measure AJ represents the measure of justification common to all the lines, as was explained above. Under these conditions, A being common to all the lines, <I> AL </I> represents the lines that are too long and <I> AC </I> the lines that are too short. The distance <I> CL </I> represents the zone of justification whose limits have been defined above.
Point A 'on the emulsion is the image of point <I> A </I> and <I> J' </I> is the image of point <I> J, </I> assuming that the anamorphic system is removed. The anamorphic system being interposed, the point A 'and the point J' must be common for all the reproductions of lines, whatever their length. When the justification effect is zero, the <I> PI </I> prism is placed at the minimum deviation for the parallel beam coming from <I> A </I> and leaving OI <I>; </ I > the prism P2 is at the minimum deviation for this same beam after refraction by Pl.
The assembly is equivalent to a strip with parallel faces and produces no lengthening or shortening effect on the image of the line. The report
EMI0002.0021
is equal to the magnification of the reproduction objective, ie in this case G == f21f1.
The diagram of the fia. 2 represents the movements of the prisms Pl and P2 to ensure both the fixity of the point <I> A ', </I> image of <I> A </I> on the emulsion, and the concordance at the point J 'images of all points from <I> C to J </I> and from J to L, by reverse displacement. The points from C to L, corresponding to the end of lines, are identified using an optical viewfinder whose movements control the rotation of the prisms and provide automatic correction. The prism <I> PI </I> pivoting around its axis Xl, by a certain angle in the direction indicated, one determines, in application of the laws of refraction, the position of P2 so that the beam coming from A does not undergo no displacement, that is to say that P2 pivots from an angle very close to the previous one but in the opposite direction.
In other words, whatever the displacements given <I> to PI, </I> the link as it has just been defined between <I> PI </I> and P2 ensures a fixed position at the point <I> A ', </I> image of <I> A </I> on the emulsion.
The diagram shown in strong lines corresponds to the position of zero anamorphic effect, and the mixed lines correspond to the position of maximum lengthening anamorphic effect, which represents, on the fi. 1, the anamorphosis of the AC line. The beam from C, inclined by an anal <B> il, </B>, undergoes a deflection which leads it to point J 'of the emulsion. The image of the line <I> AC </I> has therefore been carried, by al length, in agreement with the image A'J '. A shortening effect is obtained, to bring the image of the line <I> Al </I> in agreement with the image A'J ', by rotating the prisms in the opposite direction to that adopted for the lengthening.
Line lengths between these <I> AC </I> and <I> AL </I> limits are corrected by smaller rotations that are not strictly proportional. The position of the axes <I> XI </I> and X2 represented on the optical axis does not meet an imperative condition, since only the orientation of the prisms matters.
Fig. 4 is a bottom view and FIG. 5 a section of the members intended to ensure the rotation of the <I> PI </I> and P2 prisms. The prisms <I> PI </I> and P2 are fixed in the frames 1 and 2, respectively movable around the axes <I> XI </I> and <I> X2. </I> The frames are respectively integral steel levers 3 and 4, themselves being supported by the action of the springs not shown on two cylindrical keys 5 and 6 which are in contact with the suitably inclined flat surfaces of the nuts 7 and 8 and are guided parallel to the axis of the screw by a dovetail assembly. The dovetail 44 carrying the cylindrical key 6 is shown in FIG. 7.
It slides in a support 45 parallel to the axis of the screw 14 (fig. 4). A similar device is linked to the screw 5. The nuts 7 and 8 can only undergo a translation thanks to the action of two lugs 9 and 10 sliding in the slots 1 1 and 12; they are screwed onto the two screws 13 and 14 integral with the same shaft 15, with the same pitch, but with the opposite thread, one on the left, the other on the right. A rotation of the shaft 15 therefore modifies the distance between the nuts 7 and 8 and changes the orientation of the two prisms <I> PI </I> and P2. The fia. 3 is a top view in which the knurled knob 16, integral with the shaft 17, drives, by means of two angle pinions 18 and 19, the rotation of the shaft 20 itself integral with the tree 15.
The rotation of the button 16 causes, thanks to the screw 21, a lateral displacement of the threaded sleeve 22 secured by the bent rod 23 of the reticle 24 in the viewfinder 25. The reticle 24 is provided with a vertical line 26 intended for the pointing of end of line.
We determine by calculation the distances <I> dl </I> and d2, b1 and <I> b2 </I> (fig. 6), so that the anamorphosis device fills, whatever the value of the anamorphosis, the following two conditions - no displacement of the start of line (direction it); - proportionality between the value to be corrected and the angle of rotation of the control screw. This last condition facilitates the connection between the end-of-line sight and the control screw, since, as has been said, the rotation of the prisms does not cause proportional effects.
The dimensions <I> dl </I> and <I> d2 </I> are the distances from the axis respectively of keys 5 and 6 to the plane passing through the optical axis of the 0l-O2-PI-P2 system and by the axes of rotation <I> XI </I> and <I> X2 </I> of the prisms <I> PI </I> and P2.
The dimensions b1 and <I> b2 </I> are the distances from the axis respectively of the keys 5 and 6 to the plane perpendicular to the optical axis of the 01-02-PI-P2 system passing respectively through the axis of rotation Xl of the prism <I> PI </I> and by the axis of rotation <I> X2 </I> of the prism P2.
The rectilinear guiding of the dovetail slides 44 in the support 45 ensures, for a given magnification and whatever the justification, the maintenance of the dimensions <I> dl </I> and <I> d2. </ I >
It was said above that the anamorphic device operates normally in parallel light. In fact, satisfactory results are still observed when the anamorphoser operates in substantially parallel light; this tolerance is used in the embodiment described, to allow, independently of the justifying horizontal deformation, variations in the value of the bodies, by continuous variation of the reproduction scale within limits which correspond to practice ment to the necessities of photocomposition.
The objective OI is integral with the support 27, itself being fixed on the carriage 28 which slides in the support 29. The objective 02 is integral with the .sup port 30, itself being fixed on the carriage 31 which slides in. the same support 29. The mounts 1 and 2 of the prisms <I> PI </I> and P2 are connected by four journals to the plates 32 and 33 which are respectively integral with the support 30 and the carriage 31.
Manual control of the magnification variations is exerted by the knurled knob 34 which bears on its conical surface 35 a graduated scale, not shown. The button 34 is integral with the shaft 36 on which are fixed the toothed wheel 37 and the cam 38. The toothed wheel 37 drives the 1st rack 39 integral with the slide 28. On the cam 38 comes into contact the roller 40 fixed on the extension of the plate 33. The permanent contact between the cam 38 and the roller 40 is ensured by .des return res spells not shown.
The profile of the cam meets the known conditions of displacement of the two objectives in order to ensure the sharpness of the image on the emulsion, whatever the reproduction scale, without causing any modification to the document-emulsion distance. The displacement of the plate 33 causes a displacement of the shaft 15. The connection between the shafts 15 and 20 is provided by the pins 41 of the shaft 15 sliding in the longitudinal grooves 42 of the sleeve 43 fixed on the shaft. 20.
The calculation shows that, for different magnifications, the displacements of the prisms must be different in order to correct the same value of justification taken on the line to be justified by the pointing of the mark 26 in the viewfinder 25.
The displacement of the plate 33 which responds to the variations of the magnifications automatically controls the correction of the ratio between the rotation of the prisms and the rotation of the shaft 20, by varying the values <I> dl </I> and d2, obtained by means of the following mechanism: the plate 33 is linked to a yoke 55 that it drives in its movements and on which the support 45 is mounted by means of two cylindrical rods 56 (one of which is visible on the section of Fig. 7) fixed by one of their ends 57 in the yoke 55.
The support 45 can slide on the rods 65 and it is integral with a movable key 46 on a slide with a suitable profile 47 fixed to the frame 48 (fig. 4 and 7), which causes a transverse displacement of the sliding support 45. on the rods 56 when it is moved longitudinally with the plate 33. The flat surfaces facing each other, the nuts 7 and 8 are oriented so that the aforementioned movement does not cause any rotation of the grips when they are on. the zero effect position.
