En effet, désignons par <I>y -- y</I> (x) l'équation générale du repère OX et par<I>y = f</I> (x) l'équation de<I>D.</I>
EMI0003.0049
tandis que l'intégrale définie est
EMI0003.0051
Considérons maintenant le second serrage.
Les intégrales indéfinies deviennent:
EMI0003.0052
tandis que l'intégrale définie est
EMI0003.0053
EMI0005.0005
réaction latérale limitée par le glissement latéral. (a) décroît donc rapidement quant
EMI0005.0006
augmente.
Integraph. The object of the invention is an integrograph of the type comprising a vertical style wheel the projection of which -on the plane is always inclined at an angle proportional to the given gold of the primitive curve, comprising a tracer which is moved on the primary curve and a style wheel which traces the integral curve on the same ordinates, this tracer and this style wheel each being carried by a slide sliding on a guide rod fixed to a carriage, these carriages being called respectively differentiating carriage and carriage integrating and being mounted on a rod acting as a guide,
by means of which we give a parallel translation to the whole apparatus. Due to this integrator, the translation of the carriage carrying the marker along the shaft is transmitted to a slide connected to members controlling the direction of the style wheel and mounted on the integrator carriage; the movement of this slide is independent of the translation of the integrator carriage along the shaft.
In the accompanying drawing which shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention; Fig. 1 and 2 are respectively an elevation and a plan of the complete instrument; Fig. 3 is a section taken along line A-B of FIG. 2; Fig. 4 is a section along C-D of FIG. 3-_y.
Fig. 5 and 6 show details, and FIG. 7 and 8 are diagrams to which reference will be made below.
In the drawing, 1 designates a shaft provided at its ends with knurled discs 2, 3 of the same diameter, which roll on the paper laid out on the drawing table, and are fixed to the shaft by means of pins 4, 'screwed into the ends of this shaft. These axes carry weights 6; 7 and are adjusted from my mother to turn in holes made in these weights, locking screws 6 ', 7' being provided to lock the axes, when desired, to prevent rotation of the shaft and some discs.
On the weight 6 is mounted, on an inclined axis, a small grooved pulley 8 and the weight 7 carries a grooved pulley 10 mounted in a similar manner (Fig. 6). The weights also carry a scale 14 disposed parallel to the shaft and extending along the front of the instrument.
An integrating carriage 15 is mounted on the shaft 1 on two pairs of inclined rollers 16, 17 (fig. 3), which can rotate in supports 20, 21, one of which, 20, is adjustable, and this carriage carries two vertical axes on which are mounted two pulleys 23, 30 and a horizontal guide rod 25 on which is mounted a slide 26. The slide 26 is pivotally connected by a pin with a guide piece 27 and in which a rod can slide serving as a guide 28, and this axis carries two pulleys 29 and 29 '.
A guide rod 33 which also serves as a scale is fixed on the carriage 15 perpendicular to the guide rod 25, and a slider 35 which carries a vernier is pressed against the rod 33 by a flat spring and can move. along this rod 33. The slider neck 35 can be fixed by means of a screw 35 '.
A vertical axis 37 is mounted so as to be able to rotate in the slide 35, and on this axis are mounted a frame which carries the guide rod 28 and a support 38 which carries a style wheel 39, the axis of the style wheel being held in position by two springs 40. The styling wheel is inked by a rubber inclined roller 42 and a weight 43 rests the styling wheel against the paper. In order to compensate for the lateral reaction on the style wheel, when the steering angle of the style wheel becomes large, means are provided, thanks to which the style wheel can be rotated by an independent mechanism (fig. 4), such for example as a reversible clockwork movement 39 'mounted in place of the weight 43 and a flexible shaft 39 "connected to the axis of the style wheel.
A differentiator carriage 45 which is movable along the shaft 1 carries a ladder 47 which serves as a guide rod for a slide 47 'provided with a point or a pencil 47 ", the arrangement being such that the point of the pencil or point itself and the style wheel are equidistant from shaft 1.
The integrating carriage 15 and the differentiating carriage 45 are provided with verniers 48, 49 to enable precise readings on the scale 14. A continuous cord or a fine metal wire 11 is wound on pulleys as shown. in the diagram of fig. 7; it passes successively over pulleys 10, 29, 23, 8, 29 ', 30 and returns to 10.
This wire passes between clamping jaws 46 ', 46 "provided on the differentiating carriage 45 and it can be clamped by one or the other of the jaws; the pulleys 10 and 8 can be respectively blocked by screws 10', 8 'mounted on the weights.
The clamping device provided on the differentiator chain 45 (fig. 5) consists of a support 46 provided with two clamps or plates 46 ', 46 "and locking screws. The support 46 is established in such a way that it allows to the slide to pass under the overhanging parts of the carriage integrating 15, which reduces the empty space to the minimum. For the same purpose, the support can be rotated around the locking screw 46x and fixed in such a way that it protrudes in the opposite direction to allow the differentiator carriage 45 to be placed on the other side of the carriage.
The pulley of the counterweight opposite the differentiating carriage with respect to the integrating carriage is wedged by means of a stop screw. There is therefore a fixed point of the wire 11. This is, on the other hand, clamped in one of the jaws of the carriage 45. In its movement along the axis, this carriage will modify the distance over which The two strands of the thread are distributed by lengthening and shortening it by equal amounts. As the wire is guided on the aforementioned pulleys, this play and this shortening can only be produced by the displacement of the slider 26 as shown in FIG. 7.
It can be seen that the displacement of the latter will be half that of the differentiating carriage and will depend only on the latter.
It is still a question of demonstrating that the tangent <I> G </I> K (see explanatory figure of the operating mode) to the integral curve is proportional to y.
Let's fix the slide 35 to the c / 2 integration base. If we move the integrator of # 1, x, the wheel, being directed along the guide rod 28, will describe the line G K over a distance Q x.
The triangle formed by <I> G </I> K and its relative coordinates Q x and Q z is similar to the right triangle formed on the carriage by the base of integration c / 2, the displacement y / 2 @ 1 slide 26 and the direction of the rod 28 and we have,

A support 50 presenting a guide for (a pencil holder is provided for the case of an integration with a variable polar distance c / 2 such as occurs in the integration of <I> f </I> ( x)
<I> y </I> (a,) or
EMI0003.0023
The method of using the instrument will be easily understood by the diagram shown in fig. 8 and the description below.
To draw the ordinates, the differentiating carriage 45 is fixed relative to the shaft 1 by tightening the four screws 46 ', 46 ", 8', 10 'the point of the pencil then being at point 0 and the carriage then being rolled. over the drawing paper so that the pencil draws the abscissa OX, then the differentiating chain 45 is released, so as to be able to be freely moved along the shaft 1, the point of the pencil is brought on point 0 and, while the carriage is held stationary by screws 6 ', 7', said slider is moved along the shaft, so that the pencil draws the ordinate 0 Y.
The curve to be integrated is sketched as follows: The given abscissa having been marked on the OX axis, the pencil is successively brought into coincidence with each of the marks and then moved along the tree, for a distance corresponding to the value of the ordinate. The shaft is obviously kept stationary during each of these operations. The value of the ordinates can be read on scale 14.
The H-D curve is thus sketched. To draw the integral curve of the H-D curve, the tree is. kept parallel to the O Y axis; the tip of the slide is brought into coincidence with 0 and then the carriage is placed in a suitable place on the shaft so that the design of the integral curve does not enter into the H-D curve. Then one of the parts of the wire or the wire 11 is clamped. When the left part is tight, the integral curve will be descending, while, if the right one is tight, the integral curve will be ascending. If the left thread is tight, wheel 8 is blocked by screw 8 'and vice versa.
The point at which the wire is attached gives the angle of the C-A reference line of the integral curve with the y-axis. Indeed, let us denote by <I> y - y </I> (x) the general equation of the reference frame OX and by <I> y = f </I> (x) the equation of <I> D. </I>
By pinging the wire 11 at two places distant by a length K, we add or re-slice from these two functions a constant quantity K and their equation becomes y = y (x) X y = f (x) K and the undefined integrals resulting from the first tightening are
EMI0003.0049
while the definite integral is
EMI0003.0051
Now consider the second tightening.
The indefinite integrals become:
EMI0003.0052
while the definite integral is
EMI0003.0053
zi <SEP> - <SEP> zo <SEP> = <SEP> @@ xo <SEP> <I> If <SEP> (x) <SEP> - <SEP> J <SEP> (x)] <SEP> d <SEP> x <SEP> + <SEP> Ci <SEP> - <SEP> C. </I> It can therefore be seen that the angular coefficients of the integral curves resulting from the second tightening are increased by a constant quantity Ii , but that the value of the integral defined between two limits is not changed. This angle can be chosen at will and is only regulated by the space available on the drawing paper.
Then comes the integration of the OX reference line; the point is brought to 0 and then moved along the axis 0X and the wheel to be traced draws at the same time the reference line C-A of the integral curve.
The carriage is then brought back towards the y-axis <I> 0 Y, </I> the point by so much this time to follow the curve HD and the style wheel having been brought to coincide with the starting point C from the reference line CA or any distance from it on the <I> 0 Y </I> axis according to the integration constant. The point is then moved along the curve H - D causing the slide of the shaft to move, but the latter being moved parallel to itself. During this time, the slider 26 and the guide 27 control the direction of the style wheel and force it to draw the integral curve I.
The values of the ordinates of the integral curve, with reference to its reference line CA can be read at any moment on the scale 14. The length of the integration base can be varied by moving the slider 35 along the edge. 34 and small to be read on the 33 scale.
To draw the differential curve of the curve C-1, by guiding the wheel to be drawn successively on the line C-Z and on the reference line C-A, the pencil point of the differentiator carriage 45 successively draws the differential curve of each. In this operation one of the wheels 10 or 8 is blocked and the corresponding thread is tightened, as in the case of integration, depending on whether the curves are ascending and descending. The wheel which is free in this case drives the differentiator carriage 45 in the direction opposite to the action of the clamped wire.
It can be seen that the instrument described comprises three fundamental parts 1 A shaft at each end of which is fixed a load wheel and which serves as a guide rod and gives a translational movement parallel to the entire device, 2 A differentiating carriage mounted on this shaft and carrying a point or a pencil, and 3 A carriage which is set in motion along the shaft by the component following the ordinates of the lateral reaction that the wheel undergoes.
With this instrument, we can plot either the integral curve or the differential curve of a given curve on the same ordinates. The instrument is applicable to integration, in general to the search for deviations of the moment curve, bending and shear forces in beams, angular and linear deflections in beams with variable section and in arches, and for other similar purposes.
The described integrator has the following advantages 1 The difference between the maximum and minimum ordinates of the pitch curve is limited only by the length of the shaft and of the bead which can be lengthened as long as one wishes without increasing the length. dimension of the device in the width direction.
The length of the guide rod 25 should not be increased in proportion to the shaft, because one can always add a constant K <I> to f </I> (x) and <I> to </I> J (x) without modifying the value of its definite integral as was said above.
The range of variations in the length of the integration base is more than double that of any iritergraph of the same magnitude.
3 The passage from the positive lengths c% 2 of the integration base to the negative lengths cj2 is simplified. In fact, it suffices to tighten either the clamp 46 'or the clamp 46 "so that the full curves are directed in opposite directions. 4 The carriage can easily be substituted for a slide or vice versa, which makes it possible to perform any desired number of successive integrations, without lifting the entire apparatus off the paper.
Indeed the force, directed in the direction of the shaft, to move the integrating carriage is constant, while the driving component directed in the same direction, of the lateral reaction of the. wheel style is
EMI0005.0005
lateral reaction limited by lateral sliding. (a) therefore decreases rapidly as
EMI0005.0006
increases. It is therefore necessary to make up for (a) by driving the style wheel, for example by means of a flexible shaft driven by a clockwork drive. We will also have a reaction to the rim, normal to the axis (j) whose component along the ordinates will be equal to
EMI0005.0009
which will therefore compensate for the decrease in the influence of the lateral reaction.
