La fig. 1 est une vue schématique d'un appareil de photo-restitution déjà connu; La fig. 2 est une vue analogue de l'ap pareil, dans laquelle on a représenté les mo difications permettant la mise en oeuvre du procédé objet de l'invention; Là fig. 3 est une vue de détail montrant les organes délimitant une fente réglable; La fig. 4 est une vue d'un dispositif sup plémentaire permettant de déterminer les déplacements de la fente par rapport aux lignes de niveau du terrain;
I>0'C' â</I> A'B'. De plus, <B><I>OC=</I></B><I> AB</I> et<I>0'C' =</I> A'B'; enfin,<I>OC</I> est parallèle au repos à 0'C'.
La roue 34 peut tourner en même temps qu'avance le chariot 4, au moyen d'une liaison entre ce chariot et cette roue réalisée par une crémaillère ou par tout autre dispositif non représenté au des sin; cette roue 34 tourne donc d'une manière uniforme dans le sens indiqué par la flèche;
Si la portion de terrain à restituer dans une opération comporte un éperon ou un mamelon, on ne pourra pas trouver une di rection de déplacement pour la fente qui ne soit pas, à certains endroits, à peu près pa rallèle aux courbes de niveau. On pourra, dans ce cas, effectuer l'opération en deux ou plusieurs parties, en divisant le terrain en deux ou plusieurs portions pour chacune des quelles on peut choisir une direction moyenne des lignes de plus grande pente. La fig. 7 représente le plan d'un tel terrain figuré par ses courbes de niveau;
Method for photographically recording the plane of any terrain and mechanical and optical device for implementing this method. The object of the present invention is to obtain, by photographic means, a rigorous topographic plan, that is to say a complete orthogonal projection of the terrain on a horizontal plane.
A photograph is a central projection of the ground on an inclined plane (so-called "oblique" photo graphy) or horizontal (so-called vertical "photo graphy); there are known straightening devices transforming an oblique photograph into a vertical photograph; vertical photography or straightened merge with the orthogonal projection of the land on a horizontal plane when the land is itself flat and horizontal but, if we want to obtain, by means of a vertical photograph, a precise plan of a land comprising differences in level, it is necessary to transform this photograph graphically by points.
It was proposed, a long time ago, to obtain a photographic plan, which does not include errors due to the unevenness of the ground, by successively projecting onto a sensitive plate the zones of the ground comprised between two contour lines.
More recently, it has been proposed to record successively bands of the parallel plane in a direction invariable with respect to the apparatus used by means of a slit moving in front of a sensitive layer, onto which the image is projected. of the ground by means of a chamber which can undergo displacements in height, corresponding to the variations in altitude of the successive zones swept by the slit.
These methods first of all require prior knowledge of the unevenness of the ground and, moreover, they do not make it possible to obtain a rigorous result since one is obliged to record each time an area of a certain width, and that in this very zone there are differences in level, which lead to defects in the connection of the details of the ground, from one zone to another. We can make these errors as small as we can. wants to reduce the width of these zones, but by doing so making them much more numerous, and consequently increasing the time necessary for the operation.
The subject of the present invention is a method for photographically recording the plane of any terrain and a mechanical and optical device for implementing this method. The process is of the type in which at least the length of a base and the altitudes of three points are known and in which one projects, on a sheet covered with a material sensitive to light,
a light brush passing through at least one photographic image of the terrain considered and gives this brush and this sheet a relative movement such that the sheet is successively swept by said brush in contiguous bands.
This process is characterized in that the aforesaid relative movement is given an invariable direction for at least part of the plane and that it is determined from the line of greatest slope of the corresponding part of the land. while the distance from the sheet to the projection means is varied in proportion to the altitudes of the points in the terrain. the said luminous brush of which projects the image on the sheet,
the direction of the projection with respect to the sheet being the same as that of the shot which provided the photograph with respect to the orthogonal projection plane of the terrain considered.
The device comprises means for the photographic projection of at least one cliché, a support surface for the sensitive sheet intended to receive the projection and a carriage carrying a screen and movable in front of said surface and parallel to it in two perpendicular directions and in whereby said projection means are movable perpendicular to said surface.
This device is characterized in that the screen carried by the carriage has a slot in the form of a parallelogram delimited by movable members, in that the latter and the movable support of the projection means are respectively connected to adjustment members whose one determines the direction of two of the parallel sides of the slit and the other the distance from the projection means to the sensitive sheet, and because the movements of the carriage are each controlled by an endless screw.
There is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the device for implementing the method which is the subject of the invention.

In the photo-restitution camera, shown in fig. 1, we have indicated in 1 and 2 the rooms bearing the pictures, which can occupy any position in space. Additional optical systems not shown, placed in front of the objectives, are intended to give a clear image of the photograph on a screen 3,
without causing deviations of the light rays in its center. This screen is supported by a carriage 4 which can move on horizontal rails 5 carried by a second carriage 6 which moves on other horizontal rails 7 perpendicular to the first.
We know that, when the chambers 1 and 2 are replaced as they were when the pictures were taken, one with respect to the other, and with respect to the horizontal plane in which the screen moves. 3, the ground plan can be traced as shown below. We see on the screen the image of the split points of the terrain, we can make it unique by suitably moving the chambers in height by means of a pedal controlling an electric motor which actuates these chambers by screws not shown. At this time, the point on the ground, represented by the image, is restored: a counter gives its altitude directly, and its horizontal projection can be traced on a sheet of paper placed on a horizontal drawing board.
To allow the application of this apparatus to obtain a rigorous photographic plan, according to the object of the invention, it is necessary to make it undergo a few modifications described below. Under the carriage 4 (fig. 2), a perfectly flat and horizontal surface 8 is placed and the screen is replaced by a cover 9 pierced with a small horizontal slot 10 placed against the plate 8. The additional optical systems are adjusted. in such a way that the image is clear on the plane 8. This first carriage 4 supporting the slot can move on the second carriage 6, under the action of a screw 11 to which it is linked by a nut 12, and the second carriage can move on the rails 7 under the action of a screw 13 to which it is linked by a nut 14.
The first screw 11 can be moved by gears and a keyed shaft 15 parallel to the screw 13, so that a displacement of the slot 10 can be achieved in any direction above the plane 8, in rotating either by hand or with an electric motor, the keyed shaft 15 and the screw 13.
The cover pierced with a slot can be made as shown in fig. 3. Two opaque bands 16 and 17 are placed in the same plane at an adjustable distance, their edges 18 and 19 being parallel and constituting the sides of the slot parallel to the direction of travel. Two half-discs 20 and 21 have their straight edges respectively facing each other and parallel; these edges constitute the sides of the slot not parallel to the direction of movement.
These two half-discs can rotate on circular guides 22 and 23, so that the rotation takes place around their centers, which are placed at a distance from each other that can be achieved. adjust by moving aside or bringing together guides 22 and 23. The straight edges of the discs and the edges of parts 16 and 17 delimit the slot 10. All the parts 1.6, 17, 20, 21, 22 and 23 can be mounted on a disc 24, fixed on the cover 9, which can be rotated around its center, so as to orient the slot in any way with respect to the carriage 4 which supports it; this orientation will be adjusted so that the sides 18 and 19 of the slot are parallel to the direction of its displacement.
We see that this slot is constituted by a parallelogram of which one of the heights h, that is to say the distance of its sides parallel to its displacement, and the length of the same sides remain constant during a travel of the slot. , while the angles vary; the height h is the width of a recorded tape and may vary from one tape to the next, while the length d will remain proportional to. the speed of displacement, because it is on the ratio of this length to the speed that depends the time during which each point of the sensitive layer remains impressed; if the slit is moved at constant speed, the distance d must "remain constant.
To obtain a photographic plan, one operates as indicated below.
The two shots are placed as usual in rooms 1 and 2 of the device, which are oriented as they were in space; all this is done by replacing the cover 9 with a screen as in FIG. 1. The appropriate scale is determined by adjusting the height of chambers 1 and 2 or, if necessary, a slightly smaller scale, in order to take into account the possible withdrawal of the support on which the plan is imprinted. The altitude setting is carried out using the altitudes of three points measured on the ground. The contour lines are then drawn, by writing these curves for example on a sheet of paper fixed on the plate 8, or on the drawing board which could be substituted for it.
Once this determination of the altitudes has been made, in a known manner, it is observed in which direction the average slope of the terrain is oriented. The screen 3 is then replaced by the cover 9 carrying the disc 24 and this disc 24 will be rotated so as to bring the edges of the parts 16 and 17 to be parallel to the direction of this average slope.
The sheet of paper on which the level curves have been drawn beforehand is placed on a support, formed in such a way that the movements which will be made to the slot 10 can be followed on this sheet. By way of example, it can be arranged as shown in FIG. 4, on a drum 25 whose rotation is linked to the displacement of the slot 10, in such a way that an advance a of the carriage 6 corresponds to a rotation
EMI0004.0009
of the drum 25, D being the diameter of this drum.
Parallel to the generatrices of the drum 25, and placed against it, is a screw 26 on which moves a nut 27 linked to a part 28 which can slide parallel to the screw 26 and bearing an index 29 pressing on the drum 25. The rotation of the screw 26 is linked to that of the keyed shaft 15, so that a displacement of the slot parallel to the rails 5 corresponds to the same displacement of the index 29 along a generatrix of the drum 25 .
It is necessary, by placing the sheet bearing the contour lines on the drum 25, to arrange it so that the point on which the index 29 is located corresponds to the image which forms in the center of the slit 10.
The key shaft 15 and the screw 13 are interconnected with a suitable demulti plication ratio, for example by means of pinions, so that they can be actuated simultaneously - by means of an electric motor or by hand, the rotation which is then subjected to these screws causing a displacement of the slot in a constant direction which is that of the average slope of the ground to which the edges of parts 16 and 17 have already been made parallel, constituting the slot 10.
When the index moves in front of the drum 25, it is necessary to know how to move the height adjustment pedal of the chambers so that the altitude of the chambers corresponds at all times to the level curves encountered. By way of example, there is shown in FIG. 4 a counter 54 placed on the support of the index, connected to the movement of the chambers and having for example a gra duation whose divisions correspond for each scale to the equidistance of the level curves; since the dials used depend on the scale, these dials are preferably interchangeable.
With such a counter, the pedal will be acted on when moving the index, so that the figures indicated by the counter correspond at all times to the height of the level curves which pass under the index.
On the index 29, placed against the drum 25, there is a slide 30 which can oscillate around the point of this index, and which one tries, during the movement of the latter along the drum, to maintain substantially parallel to successively intersected contour lines.
This strip is connected in a suitable manner to the two half-discs 20 and 21, so that the latter follow its various rotations. In this way, the slit remains, during its displacement, oriented along the tangent to the contour lines of the points of the ground which it sweeps successively.
If we place a sensitive sheet of paper on the table 8, light one of the chambers 1 and 2, and cause the slot 10 to move by rotating in a manner continuous and uniform, by any means whatsoever, the shaft 15 and the screw 13, if we give the chambers heights corresponding to those of the successive contours encountered, and if we take care to orientate during the displacement of the rule parallel to the contour lines, we see that we will record photographically on the sensitive layer a rigorous orthogonal projection at all the points of the ground swept by the slit.
After having recorded a first strip of width h, the slot will be made to run through an exactly contiguous strip of width h 'by moving the cover 9 to the side of a length.
EMI0005.0002
this movement can be achieved by, for example, shifting the screw 13 and the keyed shaft 15 by a suitable amount. In this way, all the points of the ground will be traversed by parallel strips.
The slot is oriented along the tangent to the successively encountered contour lines. If these contour lines have a very small radius of curvature, then all the points of the slot will not be at exactly the same altitude, but in such a case, the length h could then be reduced.
For all the successive orientations of the slit, it can be seen that the width h of a covered strip remains the same and that, if the cover 9 has a uniform movement, the exposure time remains constant since the distance d does not change . It is different during the changes of orientation of the slot. If the latter turns anticlockwise, for example, and if the cover moves in the direction from the bottom to the top of the sheet (fig. 3), the whole part of the slot on the right will sweep the terrain faster than the part if killed on the left. There will therefore be overexposure to the left of the band, and underexposure to the right. This defect can be easily overcome by suitably shifting the movement of the two parts 20 and 21 over time.
If v is the translation speed of the cover 9 before the sensitive paper, the printing time must remain constant at all points and equal to
EMI0005.0006
Part 21 must therefore perform the same rotation as part 20, but with a time shift of
EMI0005.0007
There is shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 a positive dis ensuring at the same time the suitable offset between the rotations of the two edges of the slot and the synchronism between the rotations of the slot and those of the strip.
The rotations of parts 20 and 21 around their centers in guides 22 and 23 are controlled by two star wheels 31 and 32, on which movable rods 33 can act which can slide in the rim of a wheel 34; the re-entry of these rods inside the wheel is controlled by a fixed ramp 35 placed after the wheels 31 and 32, while their exit is controlled at will by means of a part 36 placed inside the wheel 34 before wheels 31 and 32.
To rotate the slot 10, that is to say the parts 20 and 21, one acts for a longer or shorter time on the part 36 which brings out a greater or lesser number of rods; these rods first rotate the wheel 31 and then the wheel 32 with a constant offset over time if the speed of the wheel 34 is constant, and this speed is adjusted so that this offset has the value indicated above.
The two half-discs 20 and 21 carry arms 37 and 38 to which connecting rods 39 and 40 are articulated, the points of articulation being on the extensions of the straight parts of the discs; these connecting rods 39 and 40 are articulated at their other end to parts 41 and 42 pivoting around points A and <B> A </B> 'and carrying helical pi gnons 43 and 44; these helical gears are driven by endless screws 45 and 46 which are mounted on the axles of the wheels 31 and 32; parts 31, 45 and 43 are identical to parts 32, 46 and 44. If 0 and 0 'are the centers of half-discs 20 and 21, if.
B and B 'are the points of articulation of the rods-39 and 40 with the arms 41 and 42 and if C and C' are the points of articulation of these same rods with the arms 37 and 38, OC is parallel to AB , <I> 0'C 'â </I> A'B'. In addition, <B><I>OC=</I></B> <I> AB </I> and <I> 0'C '= </I> A'B'; finally, <I> OC </I> is parallel at rest at 0'C '.
The wheel 34 can rotate at the same time as the carriage 4 advances, by means of a connection between this carriage and this wheel produced by a rack or by any other device not shown in the drawings; this wheel 34 therefore rotates in a uniform manner in the direction indicated by the arrow;
it drives the wheels 31 and 32 in its movement with an offset in time which can be suitably adjusted as has been explained; to return the slot to its original position or make it turn in the other direction, it would suffice to provide for example cuts on the shaft connecting each of the wheels 31 and 32 to the screws 45 and 46 and two sets of pinions allowing either the direct attack of one by the other, or the change of meaning.
A flexible 47 can be connected to the axis of the screw 45, the end of which is coupled to a screw 48 actuating a pinion 49 pivoting around a point D and carrying an arm 50, at the end E of which is arti abutment a link 51 articulated, on the other hand, in G on a lever 52 pivoting around a point F and causing the strip 30 in this movement. The parts 48, 49, 50, 51 and 52 are fixed on the bearing support the index finger which presses on the drum 25; this index consists of a small mark 53 drawn on the strip 30.
It can be seen that if the segments F <I> G </I> and <I> DE </I> are equal and parallel and if the gear ratios of the various screws and pinions are suitable, the rotations of the strip 30 and of the edges of the slit can be equal.
The device shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 only allow the slot to be rotated at a constant speed and lower average rotational speeds could only be achieved by operating in a jerky manner, which is very sufficient, since the condition of parallelism slot and contour lines can only be done in an approximate fashion.
The entire operation, which has been described above, therefore comprises two phases: recording the altimetry then printing the sensitive layer.
We have indicated, by way of example, that we obtain the recording of the altimetry by plotting the contour lines, but we could directly record these same curves on a sheet of paper placed from the beginning on the drum. 25 by moving the screen by means of the screw 13 and the keyed shaft 1.5. One could also draw the curves of level at, a scale larger or smaller than the plane at. restore, and take into account the difference in scale by folding or multiplying the connection of screw 26 and shaft 15 and the rotation of the drum with screw 13. One could as well obtain these contour lines by profiles suc cessive recorded in any way.
It is preferable, in a field. unknown, to have the contour lines to know the average slope in which we will have to move the slot.
If the portion of land to be restored in an operation includes a spur or a nipple, we will not be able to find a direction of movement for the slot which is not, in certain places, roughly parallel to the contour lines. In this case, the operation may be carried out in two or more parts, dividing the land into two or more portions for each of which it is possible to choose an average direction of the lines of greatest slope. Fig. 7 represents the plan of such a terrain represented by its contour lines;
this land may be divided in two by the line <I> AB </I> and the average directions of the lines of greatest slope are indicated at <I> D, </I> and D ,; direction D, suitable for moving the slit for the whole part located to the left of the right <I> AB; </I> on the other hand, direction D2 is better suited for the part located to the right.
We will therefore put on the sensitive layer an opaque sheet, limited by the right <I> AB, </I> covering all the right part of the ground and we will operate as if the left part existed alone; continue the operation for the right part, placing the cover to the left of <I> AB, </I> but taking care, by means of suitable marks, to make its edge coincide for the two operations exactly with the right <I> AB, </I> so as not to have a solution of continuity in the photograph.
In the case, for example, where the shape of the terrain is approximately known and where it does not present very significant accidents, we can, if we only want the planimetry alone for the plane, make the photographic plane in a single operation. The slit will be moved approximately in the direction of the known slope and by placing a suitable screen behind one of the images so that the rays which emanate from the corresponding chamber are inactinic; those in the other chamber, on the other hand, will be able to im press the sensitive layer. The slit will then be moved, taking care to continuously adjust the height of the chambers as it passes, so that at all its points the images are not duplicated.
In the description which has been given above with reference to the appended drawing, it has been assumed that the restitution is carried out by a device similar to that which is the subject of French patent No. 664881 but, as has already been indicated, the invention applies equally well to any other reproduction apparatus using either direct vision on a screen or stereoscopic examination of the images.
Such an apparatus generally contains two chambers in which the images of the field to be restored are placed, and uses a plotter system composed of two crossed carriages driven by screws making it possible to move, above a flat surface on which is fixed a sheet of paper on which the plan is drawn, a mechanical pencil or a dry point, the movements of a staff which one brings to coincide with the various points of the ground being linked to the movement of the pencil which thus traces them the horizontal projection at the desired scale.
A second system makes it possible to determine the altitudes of points on the ground, and these altitudes are generally indicated by a counter. To apply the invention to such a restitution apparatus, it suffices to add to the apparatus a third chamber identical to the camera and to which an additional optical system is added similar to that applied in the camera. device shown in the drawing shown above.
This third chamber is oriented with respect to a flat surface as was one of the shooting chambers with respect to the horizontal plane of the ground and its distance from this surface can vary by means of a suitable slide system. and a screw linked to the device giving the variations in altitude of the terrain in the rendering device.
On the flat surface is arranged a sheet of sensitive paper and a system of crossed carriages supporting a cover pierced with a slot identical to that previously described, and this system of carriages is actuated for example by a rod and a screw having the same role that the rod 15 and the screw 13; this system makes it possible to record a photographed plane if the rod and the screw are connected to the mechanism of the restitution apparatus moving the plotter pencil; this connection will be such that the slot undergoes displacements identical to those which can undergo simultaneously or which suffers (if it is deleted) by the tracer system.
The projection chamber, the auxiliary optical system, the flat surface and the system of carriages allowing the displacement of the slit form an assembly identical to that composed by the apparatus shown in the drawing and described above, one of its rooms being supposedly removed.
The invention can obviously also be applied to the apparatus of FIG. 1 by adding a third chamber and operating in a manner analogous to that indicated above.
The use of this device with an auxiliary projection chamber can be carried out as indicated below. The images are placed in the rooms of the restitution apparatus to which the desired orientation is given; the scale of the restitution is determined according to a known method and the level curves can for example be drawn as they are usual; the orientation of one of the two chambers is then well determined with respect to the horizontal plane of the ground and the auxiliary chamber described above is also oriented with respect to the flat surface on which the sensitive sheet is placed.
A third photograph will be placed in this auxiliary chamber, identical to that placed in the chamber having the same orientation and obtained by any photo graphic reproduction; if the level curves have been traced beforehand, the original cliché itself can be placed therein. We then connect, by means of pinions for example, the controls of the carriages, so as to move the slot in directions determined by the slope of the ground and we act on the height control of the chambers as well as on a slider controlling the changes in orientation of the slot, exactly as in the case of the device shown in the drawing and described above.
It is also possible to avoid plotting the contour lines beforehand and to take all the photography of the planimetry in one operation, by adjusting the height displacements of the third chamber by the direct determination of the altitudes in the restitution device and by suitably orienting the slot by direct appreciation of the direction of the level lines; it is then necessary to have a third snapshot.
